Actually…since this is an expansion pack… my question is “how much?” I’ve recently had to drop a lot of money on my first new console ( Wii U ) since the Nintendo 64 ( yeah, been that long since I’ve had a console ), some new computer monitors and some other things. I cringe at the thought of how much this will cost just to keep going.
Obviously I don’t know but I’d be very surprised if it cost more than a brand new full game. So aim to save up $60/£40/equivalent in your currency and you should be fine.
Of course the other problem there is not knowing how long we’ve got until it comes out. But given there are no new levels or gear and the new progression sounds like fairly specific things I don’t think it’s going to be a huge problem if you don’t get it on day 1.
That’s still a bit of a problem. From what I’m reading, I can’t say this would be worth 60 dollars as full games usually run. This is an expansion to a game and Blizzard bleeds peeps dry on all they expansions each year. >.<
I’m just naturally wary of spending a large chunk of money, especially now with NOK having gone down because of gas trades and such. Largest dip we’ve ever had in recent years from what the hubby has explained ( he’s Norwegian, I’m from Southern US and came to live with him ).
I’m not too worried about getting games on day one but it is something to have to plan for in later expenses. I’m still going through work training to get used to working and being around people again ( eh, mental issues, have problems being around people ).

Ok this helps a lot, :s though this should be right on the main website not buried in faqs. This is pretty important value proposition stuff right here that’ll determine whether lots of people will get this expansion.
Wish this wasn’t hidden. x_x
But still no answer on how much it’ll be.

@ Player Character: In this video at 3:35 in, you’ll see from the livestream Anet had. It’s been sped up by this person while he talks a bit about it.
I found this a few minutes ago. Had tried to watch the livestream but while I wanted to see what people had to say about it, I saw a lot of spam going on to a point chat wasn’t worth watching. …but I didn’t want to sit through a whole livestream just to wait for certain things to be shown.
@IvoryOwl: I upvoted that post. Thank you. Thank you so much. Better than I would’ve been able to put it so I kept from answering Harper.
I see some talk about just playing with friends…premade groups…so I’ll just challenge that with this link.
@ IvoryOwl: You have something there, actually. It would be a lot harder for someone to continue to make accounts for GW2 to keep playing if they get in trouble. LoL, on the other hand, it just takes a few clicks and you’re back in the game with another account.
There is something that I’ve read in a few cases for GW2 where supposedly Anet wasn’t or doesn’t pay attention to why someone was flagged for something and didn’t look into why and if it were a real case and so people were banned for no reason. …but then again, we never know the full story of these things and those people could very well have been in the wrong and are trying to deny it.
@ DusK: I understand that as well. I know darn well that not all groups are going to go well. That isn’t quite the point, though. Having a hard time in an instance with a group isn’t the same as someone that willingly griefs others to make the experience stressing. We’ve all had bad runs and had to eventually drop out of some or people had decided they didn’t add enough to the table and so offered to leave group and hope for the best for those that stayed. Those are fine and understandable. The griefers are what really worries me in this.
@ Reborn: Then that link at the top of my post here is for you to look at. Just because you have a good run with some people doesn’t mean you all ‘want’ to be around one another 24/7 when it comes to instance runs. You shouldn’t have to make lists of people because griefers want to be rude. Nobody should have to stay in a shell because someone else doesn’t know what manners are or how to use them just because they’re online and possibly won’t see them again.
As I’ve said in this thread already, it’s not the wipe that I, personally, am afraid of. It’s the people that have no patience and want to make those tough times tougher because they aren’t happy. I’m fully willing to wait things out and work through an instance even when the group is less than ideal. I’m sure there are many that are the same way.
@ Milennin: I didn’t know there was an offsite thing for that. Huh. Good to know they’re adding it in-game now, though.
@ Retsuko: I didn’t see it in the link I provided…so either I glanced over it somehow or you found it somewhere else. Do you have the source? That would be lovely but I hope it’ll be something more in depth maybe similar but better than what WoW has for kicking people ( which is stating a reason why a person should be kicked ).

I was actually wondering if they plan on adding some more different flavors of weapons, if not skins. Would love to have some war fans, myself.
( Sorry, live in Norway so ti was early morning when I made my post…so was getting some more sleep. Nice to finally see a conversation going here. ^^ )
@ WhiteAndMilky: When using the LFG tool, there really isn’t something ‘to’ go by on what a person’s standards would be. We’re getting people at random to do a dungeon with. If there was something like this ( like a person looking for a certain gear score or whatever ) then maybe that would help some of those more picky…? I’m not one to worry about that myself. If someone is of level and doesn’t have good gear, I don’t worry. We’re in an instance to get gear and to experience these instances. I don’t mind wiping if people are learning from it. Learn as a group, you may learn something you can take with you when the instance is over.
@ SnoodBeAR: Someone having a bad connection I can understand completely. ..even having an emergency come up. Those I don’t have a problem with. But I’ve seen far too many people just drop group soon as they made the rounds to look at gear/looked to see if the healer was over geared ( …you know, because a healer can’t be any good at something unless they already are too good for the instance ). Though GW2 doesn’t have the gaming holy trinity, this will bring up something new to have to think about.
@ Sollith: This is something that has been far too rare. Usually it was a guild run ( minus me and maybe one other ) that would behave this way. But most times it was just “that one guy/gal” that just won’t do anything the group asks and always does something to kitten the group off.
@Askleria: This is something we’re just going to have to find out. I’m not going to brand Anet with “this is how you’re thinking this though I haven’t seen you explain your thoughts on it yet” kind of thing. I’d like to wait and see…but I wanted to at least make this thread in hopes it will be seen ( not counting on an answer directly from them ). …because I know I and others have gone through the problems that cropped up when using the LFG tool. Though in idea, LFG is amazing. Not having to sit around in one place and ask for people to join for a certain instance. I remember having to do that in WoW until the LFG tool.
And you’re right. GW2 has given very little for those kinds of rude folk to work with. I want to hope that they will continue to think about how to handle this/at least learn from mistakes that will be made when LFG comes out. I left WoW ( at least taking a very large, extended break from it ) because I just couldn’t stand mostly having bad experiences in LFG. Always “that one guy/gal” that made things miserable but even the idea of kicking someone wasn’t always the best because you didn’t want to sit and wait for another tank or healer ( DPS was just so dang easy to get but there were still those “problem children”).
We did report a lot of people, though. When I had to deal with that unwanted behavior…I made sure to report them and block them so I wouldn’t have to group with them again. The sexual harassment didn’t happen often for me, thankfully. But most jerks that are just unbearable did get the same treatment. Reported and blocked.
@Ivory Owl: I’ve heard a lot of good things about League of Legends having the Tribunal but one of the things ‘negative’ that I’ve heard is that people are not banned, and if so, it’s mainly temporary. Some folks have bragged about just making another account to play because they had a temp ban on their main. I don’t know much more than that since it’s the only thing I’ve found when hearing others talk about it.
@binidj: Absolutely. When it was just for your server, not too many people are going to make an kitten of themselves because they will get blacklisted by others on the realm. There will be some that would make callouts on the chat channels for any bad experiences with a player. So other folks would be aware of playing with that person and act accordingly.
When LFG came with cross-server, it became much harder to do that. Anyone and everyone that wanted to be a jerk, did. They could get away with it because the pool of players to choose from were much wider. They’d eat those penalties too because they were so small so they could do it all again until they found what they wanted in a group. Though there’s also the players with the “FYGM” behavior. Get the drop they want, they leave group and you have to sit around and wait for another player to fill the space again.

Not at all. The LFG just needs to have something more in place to punish the ones that are a problem.
Coming here to post “too long, didn’t read” before the actual comment shows you don’t know what this thread is for.

Read from here since I’m not able to go to these conventions. After reading this, I decided a letter would be the thing to do to voice my concerns.
Dear ArenaNet,
I hope all is well and thank you for making a great game! I hope to have many more years of fun and excitement with all that you continue to roll out. I have some concerns about the new Looking For Group tool you will be adding on the 17th. …though I’m sure you’re aware of it, I’d like to just be able to put it into writing.
LFG is a wonderful tool to have in an MMO, but depending on how it is implemented, it can also be a nightmare for those of us that actually want to work together . I do honestly not know how you plan to do this or what you have planned for instance droppers…but they are a problem in other games that I do play. WoW especially. Too many people want to quit for very stupid and selfish reasons and just get a slap on the wrist for it ( a debuff not allowing them to join LFG for a few minutes ). Because LFG makes it much easier to find groups, there are a lot of people that will take those penalties so they can continue to group hop until they find a group that performs to their ideal way. When they don’t want to take a penalty, they sit in group and will do nothing but insult everyone, pull mobs on purpose, and make things all around toxic.
Be warned of “Disband Group” as well as all things similar. If an instance doesn’t go as someone wants to ( and to do it fast, fast, fast ) then they break apart the group and it makes it that much harder to wait on someone else to fill that spot in group, sitting around waiting for the next person to join. A lot of times people will get fed up with this and just give up completely.
I am sure with this being an open letter, that some fellow posters here will add their thoughts on this as well. I hope you can understand where I and others come from when we explain these things.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Jess
Checking in to say that I’m missing the mini Watchknight as well.
I’ve found that it’s difficult to want to play with different builds because I don’t want to “forget” how I had things set before trying something different. I’m wondering if it’s possible to be able to save more than one build to switch between so it leaves more room to try out different builds for different situations.
An example would be that different builds are useful if you want to jump into PvP from say…gathering or taking down dragons. To do your best to work with the PvP group, you need to change builds and then change back when you want to go back to farming things or some other PvE content.
Update: It works! Thanks so much!
Nothing seemed to happen when I downloaded and used that thing. Also, in the folder, I did not see a ‘Local.dat’ but I saw a ‘dat’ in general so thinking that must be it. So trying that now and waiting for stuff to redownload.
I’m on private/home. We have our internet on a password so nobody else in the area can access it.
I use Windows 7 64 bit….looks like I don’t have to update that since it says it does it on its own.

I’m having this same problem. Had it for about a month and couldn’t even get the free item during Dragon Bash that was recently removed because BLT never loads besides “pick up money” part.
Absolutely. I don’t want to fight so if it sounds like I may be trying to, I hope someone points it out. I like keeping things civil. xD
That’s the same for me, actually. But also because ten dollars is a hefty price for one item like that. Maybe half the price at most but certainly not ten dollars.
^ Canadian actually, and my only point was that if you are actively playing the game you therefore must enjoy it so what is the harm in supporting it. Granted many people the world over would find the cost of such a luxury off putting, but if you want it then either spend major time farming or cough up. I prefer the latter just because I know I will never have to buy another mining pick until they release a higher tier material.
Just to put this out there, I’m not knocking you or anyone else that buys it. I was just telling my opinion on it. I can see where that would be a good and bad thing getting it but for my money right now, I’d rather buy more character slots ( I’m an alt hopper and role player ) for my money’s worth right now. I don’t have a lot of money to spend on luxury items ( anything in cash shops in any game I play ) right now so I’m going for whatever I can get the most out of currently.
The perma-axe is most certainly a better buy if it was just between that and the new dye packs of randomness, though. But I wish the perma-axe was half that price being an online purchase for an in-game item.
As it is, I have two cats that really need the extra money I currently have with some health problems that have popped up. My lifetime cuddle partners are the front of my thoughts before in-game luxury items. :P ^^
Probably won’t for a bit since they’re probably banking on the idea that “limited time only” will get them some fast sales first.
You guys are still going to be stuck with the regular Ori pickaxes, on your alts, unless you want to invest another 20-22 gold pr alt, since Molten pickaxes are Soulbound.
Money sink…
It cost me 0 gold. It did however cost me $10 real world money, and as I love this game $10 or even $30 for the set for development of the game is to me a bargain. Why does everyone here compare the in game gold as the cost of items is beyond me, if you want to support the game take a crowbar to your wallet or quit complaining at the “cost” of things.
Being account bound would be nice for the gem cost, but as I am not an alt-aholic I don’t much care.
Because when someone says they won’t or can’t spend real money on something, there’s always at least one other person that’s going to say “Well, you can just get it through the gold to gem conversion” That just cuts out that part for anyone looking to answer smart-butt like that.
I’m guessing you are in the US? The conversion from Euros to NOK ( I live in Norway ) doesn’t seem that crazy when spending a little money, but gets worse the higher the amount it is you wish to purchase. So that’s a real down side to that.
Also, even if I were using USD, I don’t even think that’s worth the price tag. A penny-pincher like me just doesn’t see the use in it.
You get either a blue-hue dye (for the Frost one) or a red-hue dye (for the Flame one).
o.O He said he didn’t get a themed dye, though.
Haha. :P
Not something for me, apparently. I’m an alt hopper so there’s no way I’d get something like that and only be able to get for one character. x_x
o.O So it doesn’t give a themed dye…no similar colors or something? ….huh. Since it isn’t a for sure thing, good thing I’m not touching it.
I don’t get the price for the pick. Not interested in it just for that. Half the price…maybe. Just maybe. But that’s still stretching it. I don’t make a lot of gold as it is ( usually have around 5g on me at a time ) so converting isn’t an option either. Oh well, it ‘is’ a convenience thing so most likely many are still going to get it.
Live in Norway, myself. Noticed the same issue with Euros but didn’t know where to bring it up either. >.<
I just googled and found this one being the most recent and posted here. >.<
Having this same problem still. When I try to do the quest, soon as you talk to Eilye on the ship, the guys keep spawning on top of me. Soon as I finished three or four of them ( dying a couple times in the process ), more spawned in a few seconds.
Female Norn Warrior
I don’t think I did. I may have but could’ve sworn mine still had a couple places not found before. It may very well have been. >.<
I thought that was just me or something. Having the same issue.
Hah. Should see me and the hubby when we hear some of this. We do the same thing of correcting the pronunciations ( he’s Norwegian, I’m from the Southern US…so have that Southern Drawl going on ).
Awww. Happy times! I wish my hubby played GW2 with me. >.< He doesn’t have the time right now. We did play WoW together a lot and still do when we get the time ( which isn’t very often at all ).
This thread makes me happy. <3
I can try that, thanks for the tip. I just hope this is fixed before I get any other characters to that point in the story again. >.<
I think right now, I’ll either just ignore the story quests for now and finish leveling up that first character of mine or play another one for a while.
o.O Wow. That’s so strange.
Looking around here, I think that…just in case…I should tell more about the character. She’s of level for the quest ( 76 ), has Weaponsmith and Armorsmith. I’m not sure what else I can tell or explain any better but I hope to know if this is being looked into or whatever is going on. I don’t want to keep having to try and do it on my own and rack up on repairs. I’m not sure if I should be waiting for this to get fixed or just go on with leveling my character….or play another until there is a notice of it being fixed.
Actually….he’s the last man standing in a team when I do the quests with him. >.> And I seem to get more killing blows than he does. He’s done quite a bit of damage, yet doesn’t do “everything” himself. I’d rather get the loot that may or may not drop instead of him being able to kill things on his own. :P
This thread makes me sad….and feel out of place. I actually enjoy the personal story working beside Trahearne. At first, the way he spoke was kinda awkward but I got used to it. It felt more like he’s “supposed to be” awkward. He’s a Necromancer put up as the leader of the pact because he wasn’t exactly part of any of the groups but knew people in them. Sometimes, it has to be the odd man out that is more fitting as a neutral leader than make things seem unbalanced by giving the role to someone who is a top big show of their group.
I’m currently at the end where you have to fight Prince Ellasal. Soon as I got the urns crushed, the main guy appears and summons a lot of undead….aaand in what feels like just seconds, the team is dead and I’m left alone with at least four or five undead still up and an untouched Prince Ellasal. I die and make my way back down to where Ellasal is and the team is still dead again and again. I can’t save any of them since I have all those guys on my back the entire time and I die fairly fast.
Female Norn Warrior is what I’m playing…and it wasn’t just for the Prince Ellasal fight, but during the whole area of the Ossuary where everyone stays dead and I get mowed the heck over by previously unseen guys walking around the outside ring.
It’s “Free with purchase” much like a Taco Bell coupon for a free Taco with the purchase of a large drink.
The basic account and digital deluxe are the same price. The upgrade is free.
If you want the “Free upgrade” you must purchase the basic account. Thus $59.99 or your currencies equivalent.
Thanks.
Wish it was explained by Anet better so there isn’t so many confused over this as I am. >.< But it’s just an upgrade. I don’t need it and don’t have to worry about it. Was just confused by the wording. Thanks again.
Quite the rude posts here.
I can see the problem….the page shows that the “upgrade” is “free” but is of course, misleading. It has a price tag. But the description mentions getting items “for free” by upgrading. If this is a mix-up, I hope Anet notices and gets that fixed.
It’s confusing how they have it shown as a free download but has a price. …and the description for the sale makes even less sense to me. …how can you still be getting so many items “for free” when you’re still paying for it? o.O
Rock climbing is a challenge. I don’t think I want to ever do it. But you don’t see me hating on it. Look at guild wars 2 the way you look at the world. There are tons of things to do in it, but you don’t have to do everything. Some people do, and those people are crazy kittenes.
Imagine in the real world there was a bar above your head and everything unique you did filled it a little more, and when it’s full, you’ll get a small reward. One day you find out you need to go rock climbing to fill it up completely.
Still feel it’s a completely free choice?
Psychology is odd. We all tend not to weight things up rationally. Gaming capitalises on how responsive we are to things like getting a full quota of ticks, getting a 100% score and lots of other things. It’s a wonderful motivating factor that could be tapped into to make us more productive in real life.
But it also makes it not a simple case of take-it-or-leave-it. I’m not talking specifically about the Halloween achievement here – I’m talking about how games like GW2 inspire a completionist urge in much of their player base. We feel a sense of ‘progress’ from ticking things off the list. Having sections of the game that practically exclude us because of time investment or too much, too soon is simply bad tactics. Rationally or not, players will feel it’s bait and switch – you made them feel they could complete everything over time and then you decided: actually, no.
Problem with this is that those folk that are bothered so much by the “progress bar” to a point where it drives them to do these things just to complete them ( even if they aren’t having fun ) are ones that should be looking back on…not the game, but themselves and their feelings. There is a similar feeling in those that will gamble or other things. The drive to complete things becomes an obsession and they will lose sight of why they even do these things ( or even started say, out of curiosity or something ).
Everyone has limits and must realize them as something they don’t want to cross. A progress bar is just that. A lesson I have learned from my WoW playing days. Though these games have that in them doesn’t mean we as human beings have to think of them as a “must do” to be happy.
Reading Josh’s posts here has me feeling hopeful, happy that voices here are being heard.
I love the jumping puzzles being in the game though I haven’t done many ( if any that I can remember since I’m still new with the game )…but they are just another interesting thing to check out at least once or twice.
With that said, though I liked the atmosphere and layout of the clocktower, I tried two or three times ( and failing at the same part each time ) when I decided that I have to step back and find something else to do before my anxiety and stress got bad. The way you have to control your character and camera angles ( and having issues with folks that are of other sizes that can get in the way ) got me feeling anxious. It’s not that I’m a quitter…but right now, I’m seeing a psych counselor and one of her biggest rules for me right now is that if I start to feel stressed with something, then leave it alone. No matter what. Even if you’re happy with it…stress is bad for me especially right now.
I’m not meaning to seem negative but wanted to put in my thoughts and where I’m coming from at this point.
Voice-wise, I’d say Headless Horseman. I get chills and feel giddy when I hear him talk. I say his lines along with him and it makes my hubby laugh.
Voice-wise for Mad King Thorn is still good in his own way and while not memorable in the same way Headless Horseman is, is memorable in the way that he’s a nut but in a way, he’s a loveable nut. It took a bit to warm up to this character, but he still has a charm to him.
Honestly, I like both of them but for different reasons. I don’t see why a few folks want to bash the Headless Horseman but that’s just their thing, I guess.
I don’t think it’s the event that causes the problems….the problems are already there in the players ( of all ages, mind you…not all are children ) that will stoop to such lows because they are impatient and just want to find an outlet for their anger. Instead of a positive one, they look to hate on others and hurt them. This is the negative outlet and a majority of people “will” resort to in an instant. This isn’t just this game….it’s in many games. And not just MMOs.
While playing my Elementalist, happened to find a graveyard…..at night ( in game ) and noticed it wasn’t like an ordinary one…full of mist and stuff. I looked around for a bit and saw the White Lady…and did that quest with her. …..THAT was unforgettable in a good, good way. I’m a sucker for ghost stories. Also, it happened to be late evening where I’m at when I was playing…so even more amusing.
I have no problem with map completion. Think of it this way….not everyone has time to do a lot of stuff…like on-going events. Someone may be checking in to do a bit of wandering around from one place to another just to kill some time and to have done “something” without stopping in the middle of say…helping during an event…..before having to get back to work or whatever they may have planned for that day. GW2 makes it quite easy to pick up and put down to pick up at another time of any day.
Me——I have problems with my wrists…so I don’t always have the same amount of time each time I want to play before my wrists start to bother me too much to play. So I have to be ready to log out at any given moment before my arms start spazzing. :S
