Anet should have just implemented a slider option into the game for body builds..

There, now everyone is happy. People can make people chubby, medium, or scrawny to their tastes.

because it should be easy even with all the particle effects and shotty attack animations they have when fighting, or just go ranged

You mention two of my biggest issues with this whole “dodge” mechanic..

I think animations for big hits need a bit more warning. Especially with all the particle effects going around. Sometimes I can barely see what we’re attacking, let alone the miniscule “charge” effect mobs use when they are prepping a big hit you should dodge (sometimes they don’t even give you any warning)

Then there times where I’d be in mid-roll, and for all practical purposes it looks to me like I dodged correctly.. But for whatever reason the game decides I didn’t and I still get face stomped. That really irritates me, I feel cheated, that dodge roll should have counted, but it didn’t.

To be honest I really dislike “Press X not to die” mechanic in games such as this.. Not because I suck at them (I’m about average as far as twitch gaming goes), but because there’s just too much working against you. What happens if you have multiple mobs at all directions? Then there’s particle effects and crowding by other people. Not to mention latency issues that may arise.

Dodging should have been a neat little feature you could use to help mitigate damage at a steady pace. Not a “Press X not to die” all-or-nothing mechanic.. But that’s just my 2 copper..

Does the same really need a birdman race that is almost inevitably going to end up packaged as a wrong-headed, misguided mockery of Japanese culture? I think everyone can just recognize that anything that is going to be designed as “culturally Japanese” is going to inevitably focus on how Japanese people are “different” from “normal” and “not quite the same as real humans”.

I can already hear the heavily mockingly accented voices using r’s as l’s and talking about “honor” in every sentences and calling everyone and everything as “honorable ______”. They’ll inevitable have “katanas” which will be clearly defined as something different (and possibly superior) to “swords” and their thieves will be “ninja” who live be “ninja code” with “ninja honor” and their fighters will be “samurai” who kill themselves the moment they fail at anything… ever.

The world just doesn’t need any more of that sort of garbage as much as western Japanaphiles may lust and call for it.

But, maybe I am wrong. Maybe that was never part of the plan. Or maybe someone just needs to point out just how painfully misinformed these common ideas are when the west hijacks and utilizes Japanese culture as window-dressing and once it is pointed out, those things can be avoided.

Virtually always when American or European designers decide to create something fictional “inspired” by culture X or culture Y, the result is virtually always distasteful.

Or maybe people want to be Birdmen so they can be… Birdmen? And not give a kitten what kind of culture they may mimic?

Game content that could be enjoyed by tens of thousands of people should not be held back because a few decide to make issues out of non-issues.

Except what happens if you take a long hiatus, and happen to forget all your character names?

This almost happened to me in GW recently. I just went through a list of my most commonly used names until I finally hit one, out of pure luck.

In GW1 can you email Anet and claim that you forgot your char names?

Human Female body issues/bug

Human females are just incredibly glitchy. Basically, if your character is not anorexic, her hips and thighs are going to clip through most skirts. Go in the character creator, pick a warrior, pick any body that looks remotely healthy (like the bottom-left one) and hit back to see the high-level armor preview.

As an example of what I mean, here’s my character in Pit Fighter gear. =(

I don’t mind clipping here and there in games; as its pretty much unavoidable.. But that’s pretty bad. Do armor sets not adjust to scaling? Perhaps that’s why we can’t do manual scale settings?

The wording in the trait lines are quite bad if you ask me..

Not only are they super non-descript or downright confusing sometimes, but they could use a bit more.. data?

“All Symbols Heal Allies”. Okay, does that include the player? How much does it heal for? Is there an internal cooldown? Does it tick or is it all up front? The answers to these questions can usually be found with the Wiki, but should be available in game.

Was one of the Human Personal Stories, heard this little gem;

Soldier 1 (Asura): Incoming, Incoming! Too many to count!
Soldier 2 (Charr): Oh that’s a lot of help… What kind of Asura can’t count?!

Wording isn’t exact, and I don’t know what race soldier 2 actually was, though that dosn’t really matter.

No support, It would be a hassle to re-key bind every time you made a new char

And well worth the hassle for some of us.

Having an option to would be nice. Don’t have it turned on by default, but still have it there for those of who like having unique keybinds for each toon.

Anyone having luck linking their GW1 accounts?

Mantis.2850

I was able to link mine without many problems.

Though I did have to download, install, and log into my GW1 account before I got any sort of rewards in GW2. I didn’t play GW1 much, so all I got was 3 “points” which seems to be a default “grace” package for anyone who linked their accounts.

uh, do the mobs change?

If you think this is bad, you obviously didn’t play Final Fantasy XI. At level 3 you fight crabs. Level 11 is crabs, and you keep fighting crabs until 15. Then at 20 you’re back to crabs again.

This continues for seventy levels. They weren’t even reskinned.

I find there is more than enough variety for a new MMO. If you want to see something new, explore a bit and find zones with different terrain than your starting area. You’ll still see some familiar faces, but some new ones as well.

To add injury to insult, that game did have a wide assortment of cool and interesting mobs. But they were all too darned annoying, hard to get to, or too powerful to level off of. So you seldom got to fight them.

We didn’t level off of crabs/crawlers/flies because that’s all there was.. but because thats all that was feasible.

Indeed, most every MMO has bots of some sort. But this one is getting pretty bad. I haven’t seen botting this bad since my days on Diablo II.

While I never played it, I heard Lineage II was pretty bad for awhile there as well.

Renewed Focus vs Endure Pain

Mantis.2850

I think a lot of folks are overlooking the fact that RF is an elite skill, while Endure Pain is a standard utility skill.

This means a Warrior can pop Endure Pain while also having access to their various elites. No such option exists on the Guardian. RF should be superior in all regards than Endure Pain. If for no other reason than the fact that it is an “elite” skill, and hogs the single elite slot in our bar.

Make the duration 5 seconds and get rid of the channel would be a quick and easy fix.

Seems like a great way for ANet to make some bucks off of the Gem store. So I really expect it to happen sooner or later. Hopefully sooner, along side some extra hair options. I want a bouncy ponytail on my human female durnit!

A Few TP Suggestions

Every time I’m looking for an armor upgrade on the TP I come across a large annoyance.. There seems to be no way to filter out “Light, Medium or Heavy” armor sets. (if there is, I’m overlooking it)

If I’m on a Guardian or Warrior I couldn’t care less about Light Armor, same in reverse on a Necro or Mesmerist.

It would be nice if we could filter armor sets by weight category.

It would also be nice if we could preview the armor’s appearance right off the TP without having to buy it first.

Sadly this seems to be a common issues with MMOs.. Always fighting similar enemies, maybe of different sizes with different color tones.

It is a shame that ANet didn’t avoid this though.

Seriously, it’s too loud, if they made it quieter it wouldn’t be so bad.

I have trouble believing it is intended.

Squeaky girly sounds while swinging a sword is one thing. But the sounds they make now sound like they are freaking chippettes. I seriously think the pitch was accidentally set too high, or the sound was sped up for some reason.

A disturbing lack of Ponytails!

Mantis.2850

Yes, more ponytails would nice. The Norn seem to have many different styles of ponytails, yet Humans have none? What’s up with that?

Though I’d prefer ponytails to have bangs, and not be pulled back on the forehead.. But I’ll take what I can get.
