I thought that when the characters said that the globe drawing with the Pale Tree in the middle was a representation of how Sylvari witness and experience Tyria. That they didn’t mean that in a literal sense. Not that The Pale Tree is the literal midpoint of the Tyrian world or leylines for everyone else.
The Dream is by itself the heart of the Sylvari world. It’s where they come from, where they are grown. The Dream gives them their knowledge of the world and it’s by living different lives that they want to expand the knowledge of the Dream and by extension the future generations of Sylvari. It’s their purpose in life more or less.
As such, wouldn’t it make perfect sense for a pre-corrupted Sylvari (Scarlet in her student era) to draw a world with the Pale Tree at it’s heart?
I don’t really see the Master of Peace doing anything to sabotage his -own- people. Why would he? Those zephyrites all but worship him and defend him with their lives.
Sure the Master of Peace is definetly hiding something, but I believe, not the cause of the stabbings. While Aerin doesn’t stab anybody, we encounter plenty of Inquest Assassins who do -stab stab-.
Who is to say that only Aerin was chasing the master? What if the Inquest were doing the same? We know they are experimenting with dragon corruption, with Mordremoth’s awakening it wouldn’t be too hard too imagine that the Inquest are becoming even more sinister and murderous.
Inquest are Asura and Asura are if nothing else REALLY intelligent.
**Spoilers** Fantastic End to the Living Story.

That was amazing !!!
My heart was struck in my throat at that very sad moment and after my jaw dropped to the floor at the amazing cinematic!
Thank you for such a great experience Anet, this defnitly makes me crave for MORE!
I would love an ignore function ^^ I want to come to forums like these to discuss story, fights and stuff. The amount of negative doomsayers that appear at each and every update and/or change is disheartening.
I spotted him in the video running for his live so I’m not sure if he gets such a role
You mean running to save an innocent civilian? It is as expected of a hero like him, always thinking of the people first.
You mean running with his innocent tail between it’s legs to save -that- from burning? Though in his defence: He does let other people run ahead….but is that intentional or because he is just slow?
I spotted him in the video running for his live so I’m not sure if he gets such a role
I love Lion’s Arch with it’s sandy beaches and palm trees. It’s pirate theme and unique ship bridges architecture. :’(
The waterfalls and fun little areas like the sky high diving spot with a great view akin to the character select background. The black market cave. The beautiful fountain.
Or what about the cool quaggan and swimmer riddeld underwater ruins of old guild wars prophecies Lion’s Arch?
I hope we don’t lose Lion’s Arch in a permanent fashion!
What about this other map that is on the table in Scarlet’s secret lair?
It’s a map of Tyria with one interesting feature that isn’t on other map’s as far as I know: The dark swaths of land in the shiverpeaks.
They do not correspondent with mountains as parts of the shiverpeaks that are mountain do not have those black swaths.
I loved the new story instance. This, the conversations at the camp in Kessex Hills and the Deadend instance has gone a huge way with connecting me with the characters. When I play the game, they -feel- as my friends and allies and I’m certainly starting to care for them.
Great job, Anet! ^^
I like how people seem to claim to be able to judge writing levels. They see GoT as an example to emulate? That they aren’t there yet is irrelevant. That they are striving for having stories of such quality is commendable if nothing else.
And dare? As if it’s a crime and said something insulting? Who are you to ridicule their aspirations? Who are you to tell a whole company and a team of people who dedicate their lives to guild wars 2 that they can’t have ideals?
That’s not a working way to motivate a writing team to improve upon themselves :p
The personal story had dept, so if anything Anet did not fail with GW2 on that part. The living story will be better and I for one am VERY happy that they chose to use Scarlet’s story as the ‘test’ living story season and not one of the elder dragons. I’m hopefull that was part of the intent for creating Scarlet (even though I like her really).
Imagining the potential of it when doing a living story season focused on Jormag and the Far Shiverpeaks or a journey spread out over a few months toward Elona? I’m turning all giddy!
All the pessimism and negativety is so tiring… Don’t people ever tire of themselves? I’m glad I’m not a forum manager!
If you like the traditonal raid-gear focused endgame of the MMORPG genre, don’t play Guild Wars 2, if you like it’s unique content, by all means you will enjoy this update. If you have bought it once you can go online anytime to check each update and decide if it’s your thing.
Oh look another post about forumgoers who dislike Scarlet. One of the other threads wasn’t good enough for ya? :p
Anyhow there hasn’t been any research. You can’t say everyone hates Scarlet. It may look like everyone dislikes Scarlet to you, because that’s the kind of thing you were looking for and because people generally come to the forums to complain instead of praise.
It’s great to see so many people being passionate about the games Living Story. It shows people care and that Anet is certainly doing a lot of good things with Guild Wars 2.
I personally like Scarlet Briar for the most part. What we do need to keep in mind, I think, is that Guild Wars 2 will be around for a long while and many stories will come and go. A lot of stories some people utterly dislike and some people will truly love.
We all like our stories differently and while Scarlet Briar is a character who may not satisfy everyone it is safe to say that she is also liked by people. Maybe next year it will be the other way around, people who like Scarlet argueing with people who like the new villain.
We can voice our likes and dislikes and that’s fine but do realize there is a team of people who worked kitten these living stories and on creating Scarlet. Some of you could really learn how to give some humane feedback instead of demanding this, demanding that and being so volatile becuase someones created villain doesn’t suit your particular taste.
Tough it up, new stories will come. No story is the same as the other. Scarlet is one of a kind. You are gauranteed different enemies in the future so try to not get too bothered by one specific Living Story character you happen to dislike.
Anyhow I hope the future living stories will satisfy you. We all just want to have fun and have the best intentions
I actually think that Guild Wars 2 does have a very enjoyable story. There have been multiple times in the story that the music and the story itself gives me goosebumps.
One thing that is in my opinion something that negatively impacted the storytelling was the sort of 2d cutscenes when characters interact with each other (just talking about character interaction, not the story dungeon intro’s or the character creation intro’s…those are well done imo).
Some of you give me the impression(I could be wrong)that you want to be treated as crucial, a real special flower, in a world as large and diverse as is Tyria. You are, but you are but one of many unique flowers. That’s in my opinion the strength of guild wars 2, YOU are your character, you create your own backstory and have a lot of freedom in how you do so. A lot of the story stuff, especially at higher levels, you are a part of something much bigger together with other players and npc’s and not Superman.
