I wonder why CNN or Fox News hasn’t picked up on this story yet.

They’re too busy pouring bailey’s in each other’s coffee mugs and contemplating the meaning of journalistic integrity.

Thanks man. Good laugh right there. xD

The REAL Manifesto:...

MechanicalMind.9126

“We don’t make grindy games” that’s the part of the manifesto they broke.

Yep. FOTM violates the spirit of the manifesto as a whole and that specific bit of it. I don’t see how anyone can even try to argue otherwise.

Now maybe the manifesto is wrong. Maybe people want a gear treadmill. But that is very clearly not what the game was marketed as and originally supposed to be.

This. +1 sir.

Also, honestly, can anyone here say they repeat a dungeon over and over for any reason other that they need the loots?

Don’t get me wrong a couple times with friends and the “lulz” is cool. But anyone really keep hitting it up just for the “fun”?

And if the answer to that question is yes, if you couldn’t run it with your friends, would you still consider it fun?

The Ascended Gear grind wasn’t ready, if the AMA is anything to go by. From the state of the game, and the mass obsession with FotM, the OP’s plight is unsurprising to me, as both my wife and I also experience this. Clearly the argument that Ascended Gear isn’t needed to be at your best is moot, since such a majority is doing it that it is precluding the uninterested from completing the other endgame of GW2: Orr.

The Straits of Devastation show virtually all waypoints CONTESTED at all times. At one point yesterday, there were a couple of threads up with screenshots depicting just “how good FotM is for the game,” by displaying a myriad of maps across a swath of the game’s servers displaying contested waypoint after waypoint. Meanwhile, each of those servers has a clogged Lion’s Arch buzzing with the din of FotM invites, but nobody was inviting to low difficulty maps to get people started.

So The Lost Shores further nurtured the elitist environment we’d hoped to avoid in this game. Now it is worse. The rest of the game’s endgame has been abandoned in favor of a “grind” in which everyone is participating, despite that “nobody wanted it.” So either:

  1. Players who are smitten by the Ascended Gear fiasco simply aren’t playing, ergo, aren’t helping their fellow players who lament over abandoned zones.
  2. The FotM farmers are the ones who formerly ran the train circuit around Orr.

In either case, that Ascended Gear can currently be obtained ONLY one way has left this game in a sorry state. In my honest opinion, they should have waited until they could have provided multiple venues in which to achieve Fractal shinies. Instead, the Glory Hounds of this game have abandoned the players to rot in empty zones, oppressed under brazen elitism.

Thus the problem when you make a loot “needy” game. Games should be about the experience, not loot.

What a let down. If they wanted to make this kind of game they just should have been up front about it.

True, but lets be real here, would they have gotten so much money at the start if they were upfront about going vertical progression ala wow? Mmm maybe not.

Just a thought..

That is a very short sighted way of thinking. I’ve bought a lot of games from them in the past. I’ve spent plenty of money. At least in the past, my decision to buy was informed. Did i always love what they delivered? No, but I knew what i was getting.

Now with these lies and deceptions they can no longer be trusted. Maybe they gained more in the short term by being deceptive, In the long run they lost though. The damage they did to their reputation will cost them way more than they gained.

I was being sarcastic my friend. I very much agree with you. Lol.

Look, they balls’d up. You don’t try to bait and switch, then send someone on for 8 hours to represent and answer questions to then bait and switch again. That’s idiotic.

Logged in just to reply to this.

Oh, please. Seriously. They HAD to send in someone to do an AMA. I would argue that it was specifically because of the backlash they did it and nothing else. It’s basically a fireman to a fire.

Just because one person says they are going to “fix it” doesn’t mean they wont try other ways of practicing it in the future. I mean kitten they even said they had meant to do it and that it was staying.

In any case, logic please?

“I simply don’t see how Anet or anyone else for that matter can keep a game going and making a good profit by simply doing Skins forever when it took all of a week to get to level 80."

Answer: League of Legends. GW1. The huge mod industry around Skyrim and Oblivion.

Yes, there are a lot of people who play MMOGs who can’t see a reason to play IF there is no vertical progression. There are also a lot of people who want to play MMOGs if there is NO vertical progression, or if there is a permanently capped, relatively easy-to-achieve vertical limit.

That was the fundamental selling point of GW2, whether you agreed with it or not. That was the core philosophy. Whether it would have succeeded financially or not is something we may never know, but I hear League of Legends is doing quite well, and GW1 did quite well for 7 years with that philosophy.

Quoted for absolute truth. Especially the last paragraph. Thank you for that. IT hit the nail on the head.

Also, I’d like to stress out that the ‘question on the gear threadmill’ is player priority number one, and thus should really be asked, ahead of any other questions that may be submitted.

I’d really appreciate it if you took took this one seriously. This may be our only shot at getting an answer, and a large number of people want to know.

I agree with this. I want this answered. If it is simply pushed to the side as has been done so far i believe many people will be upset. Especially ones that have supported the game so venomously since the start, only to see a complete 180 on the manifesto.

Lost Shores Feedback Thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MechanicalMind.9126

MechanicalMind.9126

I’m well aware that the forum is being rather heavily moderated these days, and I’m sure there’s a real risk that this post will be deleted for being written in a rather negative tone. But before you, dear moderator, deletes this post, please take a moment to consider that negative feedback is often very valuable feedback, and in some cases the best feedback. And my intention with this post was to provide just that, valuable and constructive feedback. Please allow the developers to read it :-)

Many players will probably disagree with me as well as many will agree with me, but that’s not the point. You, the developers, are asking for feedback and I’m providing just that: my feedback. Please pardon my wall of text.

To sum it up: In my personal and humble oppinion, this patch is the worst thing that has happened to GW2 as of yet. I believe it’s true as was mentioned in the pre-patch marketing: “Tyria will never be the same!” Sadly, not in the way I hoped it would mean.

Introduction of vertical progression (or power creep if you like) along with massive gear grind in the form of Ascended gear was the last thing this game needed, and in my oppinion was totally uncalled for. Also, this design change goes against a lot, if not most, of what was advertised in the manifesto video as well as lots of other blog posts and marketing stunts before release.
I’m terribly sorry that you closed the infamous 11 000 + replies thread before I got a chance to post in it. I could elaborate a lot more on this particular point but I will leave it at that, at least in this thread.

Content gating is another terrible introduction with this patch. The result of it is now rearing it’s ugly head in Lion’s Arch. It splits up the community and causes more elitism than the old dungeons ever did. Hang out in LA for a few minutes and look at map chat, or look at a few of the many threads out there speaking of it.

Both of the above issues are tightly linked together, and must be solved together. The solution I would urge you to choose is:
- Reduce Ascended gear’s stats to be equal to excotic gear, only with an empty infusion slot to differentiate the two.
- By doing this there’s no need to make ascended gear available outside of FotM.

Yes or No: Manifesto Represents the Game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MechanicalMind.9126

MechanicalMind.9126

The manifesto has little to do with the game in my opinion.

1. There’s an impressive gear grind

2. Your character has no impact on the world.

3. The combat is noting like the promos depicted. Combat is meh, at best.

GW2 is Warhammer Online with a different skin.

1. Yup. I agree. Most people are silly and don’t realize there is one, no matter how small or big.

2. A big agree on this. Its an illusion that you have an impact, the impact resets after a certain amount of time. I don’t think ive ever seen a enemy for really try and take something back weve taken in some dynamic quest, and prisoners automatically get recaptured again, etc etc. The impact is fake. I know, i watched what happened long after people skipped off ala wow style to another “quest” heart.

And… to be honest. don’t get me started on the “no kill x of y quests” that’s basically what the heart quests are :p Instead of numbers there’s a BAR you fill. Sure you have more options to fill that bar, but its still “x of y”

And boss fights? Ive.. NEVER seen anyone fail a boss fight in open world (not dungeon). I’ve heard of one or two, but the boss just reset a certain time after? Not like they ruled the place or anything.

3. Yeah… combat. Yeah.. im my very humble opinion.. button mashing on timers. Pretty shure ive never heard of people discussing tactics outside of “lay down a field and spam the hard hitters”

And the warhammer online reference made me laugh. I’ve been there. I hear that some of them came over here. Specifically the public quest people. Not sure if that’s true. But ya. It would make sense. Though oddly enough that’s the thing i liked most about both games. Funny.

Just my two cents.

I guess you enjoy losing to better geared opponents then. Most of us don’t.

=/

Your snarkiness is missing my point here.

I don’t personally like WvWvW. I don’t do WvWvW. I only step into WvWvW if I want to play with a Treb. That’s all I do in WvWvW. I get on a high, hard to jump into spot, lay down a Treb, and slowly build it on the hill. Then I throw cows at people. Happy, diseased, dead cows at people.

It’s fun.

Ok! Ill bite. So then lets say for instance, after you throw those dead, happy diseased cows to your hearts content. Oh.. but wait.. you get tired on doing that and feel like going down and participating in the zerg vs zerg downstairs.

You and someone see each other and start fighting, for this example, we’ll say hes the same class and does the exact same skills as you. But one difference here. He spent time to do an optional “raid” you didn’t want to because you believed the manefesto was correct and everyone was equal.

He kicks your tail as he has better stats due to said armor. You suddenly feel as if you HAVE to do said raid in order to even complete with this.. kid.. that has more time than you.

And then, my friend you realize why people are crying foul.

Though, I do hope you enjoy that treb. I really do. :p

The TLDR of the past week is;

=>Vocal minority locusts QQ they have nothing to do, even though they probably haven’t done most of the content yet anyway.

=> Anet introduces the Ascended gear treadmill to shut them up.

=> Vocal majority, also the legit fans of the game go WTF?!?!

=> Legit fans explain in detail why it’s a bad idea, what’s wrong with it, and what they could have done instead of adding grind.

=> Apologists don’t understand the consequences, nor the other group’s viewpoint, and tell the legit fans to leave the game.

=> So the legit fans leave when Anet makes no attempt to respond to the PR disaster.

And now there’s a 50 / 50 chance this will go down as one of the biggest mistakes in the history of gaming. Well, I think anyway.

I can picture John Smedley going “Oh dear” in a stuttering Piglet fashion. Mind you, YEARS later, Smedley admits that the Star Wars Galaxies NGE was a bad idea and apologized. Damage was done, however. The game never recovered, and only the IP kept it alive.

…How strong do you think your IP is, Anet, compared to Star Wars?

Exactly. Quoted for truth. People say “oh don’t take it so seriously” but some don’t realize some of us have lost good games for not speaking up before it was too late.
