Hey guys, I’ve been running around trying various professions, but I still can’t seem to decide. I really want to find a profession that is support oriented, yet can handle themselves in pve and pvp. I love my guardian, but I can’t really see myself binging him into pvp both WvW or Spvp. I tend to like to hang out in the back when in a group, and I really like the idea of pumping out boons. Sorry for being so indecisive.

Word of Warning for new engineers

Just wanted to warn those who are considering playing an engineer that they are a blast. Actually, this is more to warn people about negative opinions in the forums. If you really want to play the class, then do so. I feel like I wasted a lot of time switching from character to character just because people were complaining about the weaknesses of the profession.

Then I came to a realization.

No matter what forum I read or profession I played, there was always something to complain about. Now don’t think I’m flaming people because they are pointing out what needs to be improved on. We really do need those otherwise the gameplay will never improve. My argument is just play for what you think is fun. For me the engineer is the best class and will be my main, however, I probably would have already been at eighty if I didn’t keep switching by what people say on the forums. Take in what people are saying to get a better idea about the strengths and weaknesses of each class, but don’t ruin having fun doing so.

I’ve only done low levels, but earth works fairly well if they are up close. I can see why water would be the best though

Mesmer's color

Really? It’s not like we have the same thing in other classes. When I see blue, it is the guardian. No matter what skill or attack it is, it is blue for the guardian. I would say the same goes with the necro, but they do have some black and red lol, but the action bar is all green. There are several classes that specialize in one color, just so happens for the mesmer it’s purple.

Do you use radiation field a lot?

I use it alot on my guardian, it really fits with the AoE effect I like with the mace, so I just keep them focused on me while the poison just ticks and renews. Probably my fav of our skills.

Best Class?

One thing people often rule out with the engineer is the fun factor. The engineer needs a lot of fixing still, that much is true. but generally the people who play the class do it for the fun of it (What is more fun than blowing stuff up?)
That being said, I’m currently leveling an elementalist for its versatility, and I love staff AoE

Just been noticing a sharp increase in the number of necros I see as of late. Perhaps I just wasn’t looking before, but kinda hard to miss someone followed by an army of walking dead lol. Did they really get that buffed?

Great guide, I really needed to understand how different this is from other mmos. I know you here about it, but I was under the concept of same roles with different names. Good Job and Thanks!

Thanks for the replies guys. As it turns out, thief is pretty fun lol. You are definitely right DancinPuppeh about keeping on your toes though, but it is a blast. I don’t know if it is versatile to be my main though. Engineer is great just because the amount of choices available for someone as indecisive as me, but elementalist has a great ability to have everything you need in a fight always there. Thanks Katz for helping me narrow it down. Kinda want something like the druid in wow, good mix of everything, but not neccesarrily the best at anything.

Hey guys, I want to apologize for being the millionth noob to ask this, but I can’t make up my mind on a main. I’ve played an engineer to lvl 40, an elementalist to 20, a guardian to 15, and a warrior to 10. I solo, so survivability is a big concern for me, but the melee aspects of the warrior and gaurdian get old quickly. And of course, heavy gear looks the coolest imo. I really enjoy being more supportive in pvp and during battles which probly explains why I’ve gone the farthest on my engineer and elementalist. I prefer having to think than button mash, and find kiting to be a lot more fun than taking hits. and I really love the Aoe aspects of the engineer and elementalist. Now that I think about it, light armor does look pretty cool too.
I hate being so indecisive, but thanks guys for the help.

What is the best part of playing an engineer?

I wanted to make a small thread to just comment on how much fun our profession truly is. I’ve tried the other professions, but none were so fun and random as the engineer. I can honstly agree that we aren’t perfect, and there is a lt to be improved on, but this profession is what I have my heart set on. There is just so many different roles that we can do well. So what if I can’t burst down as quickly as a thief, or hit as hard as a warrior, but if that were the case shouldn’t I just play those professions? My favorite kit is the bomb build by far, but I always find that you just can’t stay in one build and I enjoy putting in some thought before fights regarding what role I need to fill. That’s what I enjoy most about our profession.

What do you guys most enjoy about the engineer?
