Specific Game Mode: PvE

Proposal Overview: Increase buff range so ranger can get get and share group buffs from max longbow range

Goal of Proposal: One of the many reasons that using ranged weapons is bad on a ranger is that when you are running 5-mans you do not get any of the group buffs/boons. With the longbow there is a kitten ed if you, kitten ed if you don’t situation. Stay close for buffs and lose out on your autoattack or stay far away and lose out on all the group buffs.

Proposal Functionality: Buffs cast by melee characters will reach the max range a longbow can shoot from.

Just wanna say this… Most of my old server mates — several small or medium and big guilds — moved to SBI because it was NOT winning easily.

Sounds like crud to me. I think it is more likely a bunch of folks moved there to be the top of the silver league, which would have been the case if ANET didn’t push back the start date. How much ‘not winning’ did you expect to be doing at the top of silver?

I cannot speak for everyone but we moved to SBI from darkhaven to get out of a bad situation and fight better battles. It was obvious before we moved that SBI was going to be above rank 13 before the season started. We were not really aiming for anything other than not being one of only 2 guilds leading in WvW.

Ont he flipside we had no idea how many other guilds would make the swap at the same time and how fast we would shoot up the rankings. If this match continues at this rate we have a shot at ending up in gold. If we shooting for an easy league experience we would not be going all out right now.

All I know is that I am having a blast and will keep playing all out regardless of what league we end up in.

I will say that this has been an aye opening experience for me. My guild came to SBI from Darkhaven and we never saw anything like we currently are seeing. Even though we are winning, it is pretty apparent to me that many of our tactics are not up to snuff and there is much to learn.

One thing that I had never seen before was Maguuma portal bombing to the front of our walls and getting so many necro wells up that we died instantly before we could react. We have also never needed to protect camps and run Yaks to any serious degree.

The good news is that our guild is eager for the opportunity to improve. Everything is going back to the drawing board and people are stepping up. We will keep learning and begin increasing coordination between guilds to apply our coverage more effectively across the maps.

Use of D/D ele in WvWvW?

Soling camps on an ele is easy. As you are running up swap in glyph of storms and use it in earth attunement for the aoe blinds. Then just aoe them down in melee range. If you really want to be safe use an earth elemental to tank some damage.

When I use earth elemental I usually take almost no damage myself and the elemental survives with 25-50% hp.

Why can't we just be matched by rank?

ANet, please give Borlis Pass easy matchups so they can tank their rating with ease to get the 13 rank.
I’m pretty sure that’s what the OP was getting at.

ANet, please continue too give Stormbluff Isle easy matchups so they can continue to think they’re the best server with all those transfers.. Mmmmm, so good. I’m pretty sure thats where you were getting at.

Also, i have no idea why you think we’re tanking the matches.. o.0

and even funnier is how sbi once again gets same best keep in eb……… too much of coincidence

Since when is Green the best keep? I would take Red any day. That is not even counting the fact that Green keep’s south double gates are bugged allowing flame rams from the first gate to hit the second gate.

Of course SBI really wants to roll a higher match-up. The current match-up is pretty stupid and I would like to get as much experience with some higher rolls before the season starts.

As one of the recent transfers to SBI I am not worried at all about moving up to Gold. Everyone is still figuring out how to mesh all the new guilds with the old to take care of coverage, but they are working around the clock on this. All the old guilds have been incredibly helpful and things are getting organized faster that I could have imagined.

I have no idea what our current ceiling is but I strongly believe SBI is going to be getting better and better going forward. We may not be in the running to win Gold but I do not think we will be getting stomped nearly as hard as some people think.

In the end I would much rather be on the rise and facing stronger competition then be stomping in Silver. I did not transfer so I could karma train against empty towers/keeps.

Is Arenanet trying to kill Ring of Fire?

I still do not see why they don’t just do 1st place moves up, 2nd stays, 3rd goes down. You get varied matches but don’t have huge swings in matchups.

This does have its drawbacks, but I think it is far superior to what they have tried so far.

Outnumbered Buff-a plea to make it useful

why we wont see a useful outnumbered buff:

scenario — player enters map where his server has outnumbered. server loses outnumbered. other players harass him to leave so server can be stronger.

Correct. The idea behind the buff is to incentivize you to show up even if you are outnumbered by pulling out some of the disincentive for losing a lot, but if we put anything too good on it, it will cause serious problems between players. We don’t want it to be something that people fight over, harass each other over, or generally cause a worse play experience because someone takes away the buff because it is our goal for the maps to be full and for no one to have the buff.

I do not buy that at all. It should still always be more valuable to have more people than a higher strength buff.

You could also make 2-3 gradients to the strength of outnumbered to alleviate this.

Incentivising Better Fights

I would like to see more befit to upgrading and holding locations and taking those same locations from your opponents. What if you got more points per tick for each level of upgrade per Tower/Keep/SM and also gave more Karma/Gold/Wxp/Exp/Mats if you take it.

I think if both sides had stronger reasons to go after harder targets it could lead to some more fun. If taking a fully upgraded SM should offered a large enough reward to convince PvE players it is worth their time they may stick around to play more often.

The other reason I think this could be good is so often if one server is dominating a match-up the other two often fight each other instead of ganging up on the winning side as it is easier. If the winning server was getting more and more points the other two servers should have more incentive to try to team up and take them out.

Right now is also at the end of the match-up where many matches have long been decided. I know my server karma trained yesterday because we were in 3rd place with no hope of finishing higher so we made the best of it and flipped keeps back and forth. I know once the next matchup starts the commanders that led this will be playing for real again(hopefully against different servers).

Also seems like after the initial rush there will be more than enough mats to be gained playing normally. I am not too worried at this point.

Why 80 players?

I’m willing to bet someday when people get really good at him, less than 80 people will be able to pull it off, that tends to be how anything works in an MMO. It’s balanced for 80 average players though though and scales up into the hundreds because we want to make epic, large scale encounters available to players out in the open world. We’ll have a mix of a lot of different types of encounters as we continue to update our boss and world encounters, but Tequatl specifically is intended to go for the epic scale.

The idea is we’re going to make him hard, and require a lot of players, he needs to have rewards that make that time worthwhile. In the next update the same philosophy will apply to the karka queen, who will get a bump to her rewards as well given her difficulty; her base line player number is much lower than 80.

Extra bonus info: The highest chance of having a rare chance ascended weapon for you is on Tequatl’s daily bonus chest if you defeat him: game on.

Teh descriptions of the fight mention a ton of aoe going on. Does this mean my ranger pet is going to be dead 3 seconds into this fight and leave me doing a fraction of my dps?

Aren't Overflows Supposed To Have Invasions?

I am trying really hard to participate in the living story but having no luck at all. I have tried to participate in three different invasions so far and each time I was put into an overflow that had no event going on. What is the point of even playing this game if the only content that ever comes out I cannot even do because of overflows.

I would love to be able to jump in to WvW on whatever char I feel like playing that day but character bound WXP ruins that. If I don’t feel like playing my main WvW char I find myself logging off rather than playing one of my others.

People were happy because for the first patch ever changes were made in the right direction. The long bow is now saved now, it still needs a little work, particularly with traits as you cannot pick everything you need. However it is starting to feel like a.net has a vision for where they want it to be, and that means a lot.

Big issue in pve for longbow is still that to be close enough to your group to get aoe buffs you are too close to do good auto attack damage. Get rid of the range requirement!

The most important part of these changes is now the Longbow really has skills that synergize with each other, and with your traits, to provide a way for player skill to take the weapon to the next level.

On the other hand the shortbow is still barely changed by traits and is left auto attacking constantly and using 2-5 situationally. The shortbow has been using its damage as a crutch for a poorly designed weapon since day one. They nerfed auto attack damage because they wanted us to do something other than just auto attack, but have yet to provide that something.

Correct! I think some of you are making assumptions that living world means the stuff we’ve done the last few months and that’s all you’re going to see. My point is saying we’ve seen folks feedback and are adjusting that strategy to include a much larger mix of permanent updates going forward.

Dungeons will be part of this strategy, living world teams will be doing work on our permanent dungeons rather than them being ignored, the types of things you’re asking for will be rolled into living world updates to give a reason for them happening in the world. It simply means we’re going to be doing more of exactly what you’re asking for here in this thread, but under the context of a story of why it happens in the world, rather than just magically have it appear (as happened with AC).

Hope that helps a bit, I’m actually agreeing with a lot you, apparently that wasn’t clear enough!

Edited to add: We also plan to do a lot of reward work across the board, including on our dungeons, but we’ll go into more specific detail on that in July as a comprehensive summary.

So you are going to make fixes that should have been done months ago and try to pass it off as NEW content through the living world?

Borderlands on Lower Ranked Matchups

So most nights there is a queue to get into Eternal Battlegrounds so I try to find a borderland that has something going on. However, pretty much every time each server has 95-100% of their own borderland. Other than flipping the occasional supply camp there is not really anything to do.

There needs to be a better reason to want to fight in the borderlands other than that you could not get into EB.

The reason people complain is because A.Net has refused to do what every other major MMO does and host a PTR. There is no reason major bugs like this should be going live when there are low cost ways to test things beforehand. I played WoW from release through WOTLK and things like this just did not happen.

We agree that the rate is simply too slow right now and the build next week will make some major adjustments to that. And we will continue to analyze the data after that and make more changes as necessary. In addition we will be continuing to find ways to reward players who are doing more than just running around and killing other players.

Do you have any plans so Wxp gain is not so heavily weighted to the upper tiers? Also before this system went live I alternated between all my characters in WvW, now I only play 1 and have no motivation to restart the incredible grind on my other chars. I would be a lot more excited to play more WvW if I could jump in on any of my chars and not feel like my progress was wasted.

Why not give this content a 2nd life as a fractal? Would need to cut some of the trash down to make it shorter but fractals need content bad and would give an avenue to continue to enjoy a fun dungeon.

I know you can combine lesser essences to upgrade them but can you also break down an essence into lower tier?
