I don’t see balance as a major issue at all. Sure, it could be tuned a bit and some classes need some love in areas and a few traits need toning down on others but overall it’s not gamebreaking for me (for the record, I attempt to play a great sword dps guardian).

The solo que needs to be fixed though. I lose alot in solo que, so by proxy my MMR should be terrible yet I still hit teams everytime I solo que. had 5 In a rows tonight where we got proper stomped as solo players.

I want them to be split, and timed match starts every 5 or 10 minutes to better the matchmaking and enlarge the player pool at any given time.

Plenty of faith left, it’s still the best pvp MMO on the market and will be for quite some time.

It’s not the best pvp MMO. It can be much better than it is now though. How many tourney classes have you played on the guard(I see you have a warrior as well)? Have you tried all the meta builds available on all the classes and not just the guardian? Guardian happens to be one of the more versatile classes so you are lucky, why’d you go with a Guard and not a warrior? If you had you’d understand the skill ceiling for some leaves room for much more power in all departments which is a huge balance issue.

My personal opinion, if you still have faith in this game you have played it too long… and that’s like false hope for you real hardcore vets kind of like being with a girl that is going to just disapoint you everytime. Or you haven’t played it long enough to understand the issues and how stale Tpvp get with lack of features in and balance issues.

The direction with balance(or lack there of), the constant let downs, the small patches that were suppose to be big patches(but turns out they were small). How many people still have hope this game will get better any time soon?

I think it’s going to take an expansion just for some hope for the naive few remaining in the game just because the combat is fun but the balance is severely lacking.

Does Arena net acknowledge their efforts in the organized pvp are poor? I have yet to hear this from them, if they acknowledge their poor efforts maybe we can take steps forward. How do I know for a fact their efforts are poor? Look at the population decline since November, a small minority remain that care more than they should.

What are the numbers looking like since November and December, what % of people are left? Why do the rest of you succumb to such curious torture as to stick around and hope this game will improve?

Also if the new players just starting Spvp knew the horrible direction it’s been going in since launch, would they still be experimenting in this game knowing they are headed for a huge dead end once they unravel the intricacies of spvp?

Discipline tree was bugged, first trait in Discipline is VI(Signet Mastery). Took me a second to put the build up I closed the page once by accident =p.

My thoughts:

I enjoy theory crafting even with classes I’m not great with. Posting this one I came up with for critique. It’s too bad some of the weapon choices are not as adequate as others, in this patch I was hoping that would be fixed with some balance so more people would have fun playing different things. Copied Defektive’s template.

The Gear:
6/6 Lyssa Runes (+Crit chance / Condi removal)
More sustain = Valkyrie’s Amulet (32% crit at all times except if someone removes it but you can always re apply fury with your GS, 36% crit with the banner).
Want 67% crit up at almost all times? Go with a berserkers instead but be more squishy.
Sigil of Fire on Greatsword.
Sigil of Air on the Axe.
Sigil of Battle on the shield.

Other options: Warhorn, being that you are specced into Tactics you can use a warhorn if your skill level is that good with the dodges. Vigor up 13 out of 20 seconds, and swiftness up at all times(literally) thanks to the signet and horn. Fury up at almost all times with some minor help from an ele up more than all the time.

Utilities:
(Healing Signet, Banner of Discipline, Bola, Endure Pain, Signet of Rage)

Why Bola: You will have the sustain to immobilze them for the full 5 seconds after you fight for a bit and make them use up their dodges, does not include all classes(vigor etc.)
Have the ability to immobilze someone for 5 seconds when your team asks you to on a 20 second cooldown, make up use a 2 dodges- he popped his stun breaker? Immobilze for 5 seconds. Enough time for full hundred blades.

Why Endure Pain- Your stun breaker stops you from getting burst down.

Why Banner of Discipline: Regeneration up time infinite you will always have regeneration up unless removed. The banner is down? No it’s never down with the improved banner it’s always up, stack regen wait to pop it later if you want.
Your presence in the fight is always felt, there are a variety of banners but +10% to crit damage and precision is the one I went with. Also boosts your crit damage to 60%. I’ll expand on the banner later.
The battle is almost won, youre going to rotate to the next node? Leave your banner there- your ally can pick it up give himself swiftness then use the banner #4 to run over thus increasing his rotation speed. Can come in handy in a clutch situation. Did you die? At least your allies are benefiting from the regen and the +10% to crit damage and 90 precision.

Other options:
Signet of stamina(more dodges to take advantage of with skill, another condi cleanse), Healing Surge(be able to burst more with this build you want to always be axe bursting as it does 4-9+k dmg crits depending on the armor of the opponent).
Fear Me!: Another AoE CC if your group calls for it or if your endure pain is down and you want another oh kitten I need them off me skill!

Pros: Can have fury, swiftness, might stacks, and regen up at all times for yourself and a couple of other buffs. Do not lose much damage, gain more survivability and group support. Absolute maximum mobility.

Cons:
Still vulnerable to condis(What warrior isn’t?) but with high skill can take care of that. Slightly reduced damage. Needs to be with an organized team so allies can take full advantage of support.

Small tweaks to skills, traits, and weapons that no one uses and are not viable made more routinely would definitely add more flavor to this game. Some weapons clearly underpowered have gotten 0 attention and 0 buffs, it’s disheartening to say the least.

As a glass canon with 14k HP incoming damage kills me. Why would I want to get “struck” for might? I rely on mobility to play. You increased my RTL in place of giving me might upon the premise that I stand there and get whacked.

Did you forget that elementalists are one of the hardest classes to play with the steepest learning curve? Is there no compensation for this as a glass cannon? Instead you bork us. At 14k HP I have less mobility and less crit chance. Awsome. Even as a full glass D/D cannon ele I still have less mobility and burst then a thief. Most thieves have perma stealth with the ability to burst damage up to 17k. As a glass cannon ele I have to mash buttons and flip through attunements and don’t even come close to that kind of damage unless I crit multiple times.

Lol, so misguided. You are a glass cannon and are complaining with what all glass cannons have to deal with? Hard to take you serious. Now you know what it’s like playing a defensive roamer warrior / thief, have good twitch or enough twitch or die. You have built in survival abilities abilities use them to get out and in.

Elementalists are not one of the hardest classes to play, they were the flavor of the month for 2 months. A lot of people got good at it, which is a testament that it is not as high a skill cap as you may believe. If anything warrior is the hardest dps roamer to play yet I don’t see them getting any deserved attention.

For those of you upset with the patch, what were you hoping for with regards to class balance? I’m not saying I agree or disagree with the patch, I’m just genuinely curious.

Some actual balancing, weak skills to be buffed. Some overpowered skill to be nerfed so there can actually be variety among the little remaining pvp base. Hey long shot is long right, they don’t see $$ signs so expect Spvp to wreak until the next expansion right?

I think they should have gone a bit further with buffing the weak stuff so we could see some more variety. Which skills do you think are too powerful though?

Triple cantrip elementalists, AOE damage being as strong as alot of single target moves should have been looked at. Thief burst edited along with other buffs so the thief is more than an appear insta gib(succeed or fail type) type class(only viable one in paids is insta gib thief).

I’m more concerned with buffing other weapons clearly not viable, no one using effectively unless they severely outplay their opponent. Same conquests map, same meta, same classes… same…. same- This patch changed hardly anything.

Developers in the spvp department of this game think going backwards is a forward step, and they try to sell it as such. Spvpers have been met with nothing but deceit since this game came out. God the devil is gonna enjoy feasting on your lies in the afterlife.

Biggest trash talkers during pvp

Problem is some hotjoin thieves tend to get a big head because they can go around max out glory, never die if they are decent, and be a game changer in the chaos that is hotjoin. There’s alot of these, usually they are sub par thieves though and not even decent that are talking smack.

Same thing with elementalists alot of them actually think they are good in hotjoins, quite sad.

Then you have the thieves who talk smack are over confident but have a sense you’re getting frustrated with them, and thus see this as a great opportunity to go trolling.

It could just be friendly banter and seeing as how you’re at home in a cage not socializing it’s difficult to react to kitten who think they are just being friendly by talking smack.

Yesterday I ran around trying to 1-2 shot people with warrior rifle in hotjoins burst, and everytime I got a 10k ish crit an kill shot I would say “Head shot” in chat, a couple people didn’t appreciate it.

Eles healing - not op

It clearly is over powered. I see more and more eles every day. It’s even worse because even the bad ones have learned enough of the mechanics, build, and rotation to be incredibly durable meanwhile trying to land their burst. I can put tens of thousands of damage on an elementalist but if I can’t interupt them(and they have stability), or are invulnerable, or are in mist form, or are healing themselves, or I’m busy dodging their burst. To make it worse even the bad elementalists only have to learn the build and the rotation and they suddenly have overpowered survivability with burst capability.

Also alot of the cast times on ele abilities are faster than they should be. For example why are elementalist knock backs faster than warrior Hammer knock backs? They have more condi removal, healing, boons, and ability to still burst down a warrior- so lets allow them a knock down that is faster than the Warrior Hammer knock down(not to mention the other kitten they have running + on more efficient cooldowns)? Why did that make sense when you even made the Hammer warrior. They heal more thn a warrior by a vast amount, and have huge sustained dps compared just as an example.

Who gives a hoot, there’s less than 40 people who are unsatisfied about this. This should be so far down the list of Anet priorities. edit: If that’s the only team online, well that’s the team you should be getting. Is fairness so hard a thing for some of you to grasp? If you really wanted competition you’d just get out of your comfort zone, and then not switch classes mid game.

On a side note, I’d love for there to be a chart for example: Damage dealt, damage taken. And then if possible advanced stats like damage protected against(dmg reduced), dmg evaded(i doubt that’s possible or maybe not worth it? but you get the idea.

Hardcores drove away the player base by abusing the block bug(and other exploits) and sticking with their elitist team mates to gain any edge they can, when their core is not online they just team up with other players in the top QPs because they are online ALL the time. If I’m just as good a single player as these guys, but have to play with 4 unorganized people because I can’t get into this ‘clique’ of decent players. Well yeah I’m gonna quit the game and move onto more green pastures. Hardcore players can play with themselves the whole 40 of you on NA. You guys never seem to log off or get out of your comfort zone, then complain about not enough people around to compete against?

Most people pick Asura because the animations are smaller, and is it no a coincidence that a lot of people do say the Asura has a slight advantage in this department. Also the smallest size? Why would you make it the smallest size possible if you aren’t trying to gain an unfair advantage. Oh right because if there isn’t an advantage gained(there is), people will still cut corners especially for their E.

That is what you should come to expect of hot joins.

You still get the extra bit of glory for winning, but it does suck having to get on the team being farmed then again if the game switches the right person over usually it will actually balance the game, but rarely.(The guy mostly responsible for the farm fest usually a thief or ele).

In general to have the most fun in a hotjoin if you are solo is to play a very mobile class. That way you can pick your spots if it’s not zerg vs zerg or if one team is dominating(which is the norm in hot joins). Also a mobile class will allow you to change the tide of battle easier and have more fun in a hotjoin environment. On the chance that your allies are never around you’ll get to them faster, an be able to escape situations certain classes can never do.

I’d rather have a game mode where you have to get to a point to win. The enemy has to stop you. Then you switch sides, team that does it faster wins the game. You can add strategic factors like 2 doors to cross to get to the 2nd room. Players respawning to stop you from channeling through to the next room. Then other team has to ‘defend’ in this death match style strategic map. Team that gets to the finish line faster wins. Both teams go on offense an defense. Typical game mode in a lot of games, wondering why it’s not in this one.

The low-down on the "Solo-Queue" Fiasco

Everything that I would want to say has already been said by Helseth and Teldo.

You are going to increase the game’s popularity in the mists by attracting a solo queue. The game will have a much better chance at succeeding than the infrastructure that is present now.

I will add that there needs to be an unranked and ranked solo queue because like Nazral has already said: there are casual people who play alone in this game as well. There are people who do not have the time to dedicate to a fully committed team, and if it weren’t for having teams to play with I wouldn’t be playing this game this long either.

The current system basically forces:
- Players to find a team or get matched vs premades
- Players to find a team and dedicate time to get good or get stomped
- Everyone else who is deemed inferior to be on a team is ignored
- Players then leave because there is no incentive to continue playing because you will a) pug and get matched up vs a premade because of lack of matchmaking or b) pug and win, but it will amount to nothing as there is nothing to show for it besides a chest and some glory which amounts to almost nothing at this point.

Having a solo queue promotes more players to play because they understand they will be guaranteed to be matched vs other solo players. Having a ranked system allows you to see who the best solo queue players are (albeit it’s a little flawed). Having the unranked system allows the game to flow through “normals”. You are now able to cater to the casual scene. Now add in some really nice rewards or things like “pats on the back” such as having your name shown if you’re on a hot win streak throughout the mists or whatnot and we have something here. I have made a long-winded post about this in my other thread already, but yeah.

Solo queue ranked+unranked gogogo!

Common sense yeah. Solo Qs will help build the game. If splitting the current player base by fairly separating solo Qers vs team Qers will be bad for the growth of the game as some fear…. well the game is done anyway so don’t be so paranoid.

Solo Qers DON’T want to meet other premades consisting of people group Qing. Any player running premades SHOULDN’T want to meet a solo Qer(if their interest is a stomp the hotjoins are there feel free). Why work a system that spoils can potentially create unfair match ups which NO ONE ENJOYS. It’s 2 + 2 = 4 not 5 and if you don’t understand that then watch the game population continue to drop. You want to nurture competitive gaming not create an unbalanced system. The pros out weigh the cons if you split Solo and group, clearly… it really isn’t even debatable.

Anyone in their right mind not trying to cut corners in their game development can see matching premades vs solo Qers is a recipe for disaster no matter how you look at it. Solo Queue ladders attract players if you’re game is fun what is so hard to understand about this!!!!!

I think paids are going to stay the same or on a decline(they are better on EU in my opinion but transferring cross region servers is currently out of the question with the transfer bug). Basically once this game releases the ranked system paids can get better. Hopefully they are smart enough to have a team ranked Q and a ranked solo Q and somehow figure out how to normalize the solo Q so there is a balance of classes otherwise no one will ever Q solo… and then it’ll go back to how it is.

You have to keep it competitive for your good players that are casual, but don’t want to devote their life around a schedule of a team. You have to nurture the weak playerss that come into your game so they don’t quit. AND you have to please the veteran dedicated super good players last because they make up a very small sample of your player base. Also include spectator mode in matches if you’re serious about Esports.

person above me doesn’t get it. this is an mmo. not everyone had the same playtime. you are basically telling a large portion of competitive teams if they can’t be on during prime time find another game. more reason why qps mean jack kitten you could have a bunch of solid teams out there who play off hours and have quit since they could never get in any paid tournaments.

Well, another option would be to transfer to an EU server as the pops are at different times and longer.

I did that, then after not recieving tournament rewards for a while and losing some tournament tickets did I realize this was a serious bug and now for 7 days I can’t do kitten in TPvP with out suffering mass penalties from a bug. So I come here to see it’s been known for more than 2 months that this exists.

They implemented paid tournaments and still charged for them, of course they still made sure to leave tPvP broken in so many ways. It’s butt kittened beyond belief this is the only game I want to go back to the store choke the sh#! out of anyone who refuses to give me a refund.

This is bull kitten! Who doesn’t agree with that statement I just made?

This is a terrible reflection of your company. Tournament tickets are a monetized item in the game. Yet the process which you use them for is bugged in such a way where it ‘eats’ your tickets. Yet there is no form to get a refund of these items lost?

DON’T YOU REALIZE HOW UNETHICAL IT IS TO CHARGE FOR TICKETS THEN NOT ADDRESS AN ISSUE THAT EATS THE TICKETS WITH OUT YOU PROPERLY BEING ABLE TO UTILIZE THEM.

That is what you call a hustler, a con artist, an unethical business. Wow, just wow- how morally inadequate is this business seriously.

It’s been 2 months. I mean everytime there’s an update the tournaments are broken for days. Sometimes a week or two(load screen bug). Now this, listen here. Paid tournaments cost gems and reward gems. This bug has been around for how long. You monetize this aspect of the game, then leave something like this(gamebreaking for me) out there. Why even allow transfers, and it’s been 2 months seriously?

How can I put this in a civil way. What kind of low life game are you trying to run here? No form of re imbursement either, and basically a big “Too bad go suck it” response, to the problem. “It’ll get fixed when it gets fixed. You don’t like it too bad, go play something else until we fix it. Oh, and by the way we’re not gonna fix it in any form of urgent manner you can go suck it.”

That’s the message I’m getting by reading this thread. Thanks for your time.
