So badly do I want to play an Engineer.
I think I may do that anyway.. but it seems like there is just an inane amount of problems and bugs.
I wish turrets worked correctly and were meaningful, because according to the GW2 site that is your main staple of holding an area and supporting that with hand grenades, mines, bombs, and gunfire.
Do you guys feel that if they fixed the turrets to actually be valuable and helpful (on my Guardian I just laughably walk past them), that Engineers would see significant boost in their success in both PvE and PvP (all forms)?
My idea for an Engineer is to literally make a Juggernaut Flamethrower build for WvW just to confuse people (I have yet to see an Engineer use a Flamethrower) and light things on fire, but it would be great if I didn’t need to be stuck with 100nades or p/p kite builds to be ‘effective’.
Guardians healing is tied to the amount of players around us, we’re not elementalists that receive high healing regardless if he/she is solo or in a group. So if you’re by yourself, that massive healing…heh. The only weapon(s) that will provide such healing is the staff and Hammer. If this is PvP, the hammer doesn’t do anything since your symbols will never hit, and having to stand still to use empower leaves you wide open for a focused attack.(which empower will not heal through)
Quite true but self-healing isn’t absolutely terrible, just mildly terrible.
This has happened to me on my Guardian as well, I just thought I was being a newb, but I could see the arrows just flying out of an area and had no idea why I was getting downed without being able to see an enemy.
Yea that’s one trepidation I have.. But wasn’t it AoE’s being used in place of single target skills that was the problem? i.e. Rather than using your direct damage the AoE was doing more single target than other skills?
If that’s the case then I’m sure this would still be greatly viable.
Nice thank you.
And I already got slammed by Thieves even on my Guardian, not really worried about that. I know there is a reason why you build and gear defensively, I completely understand that. I just plan on being a literal glass cannon is all.
Thank you all for your help
Haha alright so it’s mainly unload AoE abilities and pray no one pops me?
“Pfft, ele’s are squishy ma—”
Do I simply go Zerker gear across the board and ignore Arcane/Water, dumping my traits in to whatever I feel like and get used to getting eaten alive?
I use Valk since I use Hammer mainly for CC support.
A neutral statement: “With Haste!”
For instance Destroyer Staff:
30 Destroyer Lodestone
1 Ancient Staff Shaft
1 Ancient Staff Head
1 Orichalcum Imbued Inscription
As for cantrips: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cantrip
Not always, but for instance Destroyer weapons use a fourth slot.
Hi Ele Forums,
I haven’t been playing for very long but I do have an 80 Guardian in full Exotics. I spend almost all of my time in WvW (occasionally I help with dungeons in the guild like Arah), and after playing my Guardian in every possible combination and feeling quite comfortable with his gear and playstyle I am looking to add another 80 to the mix. I was looking at Engineer but feel that though they look fun they aren’t going to appeal to my sense of sheer damage output.
Now, with that being said I want to be clear on a few things.
Firstly, I don’t care about being a bunker build. I don’t care if I get three-shotted in Zergs or constantly have fists shoved up my butt by the Heavy classes, if I get frustrated I’ll just hop on my Guardian.
Secondly, I want to do the most potent DPS I possibly can and unload, preferrably during Keep sieges and defense, while being backup and support for small group efforts.
With these two desires, I understand that any class can be a glass cannon. Assuming I have a strong enough support structure to get peels and am smart enough to try and avoid burst (not always possible), what would my ideal Glass Cannon Elementalist look like. Traits/Gear wise? I’ve perused the forums, looked at a lot of posts, looked at the wiki, etc, but want to hear it from the horses mouth so to speak.
Are any of you pure glass cannon? Do you find yourself being able to down enemies quickly? Do you feel your survivability (or lack thereof) is merited by your massive damage output? Do you actually HAVE massive damage output?
Lay it on me, I am not afraid of learning the intricacies or combos.
Note: At 80 the character will be in full Exotics across the board.
When you get to higher crafting and levels when you make exotic armors and things you put Imbued Inscriptions in the fourth slot.
This post is coming from a player in full exotics including all possible Guardian weapon sets at Destroyer level:
Play a Guardian.
You can still do a formidable amount of damage (more sustained than burst but that IS possible and horrifying if you are traited for it with Sword + Focus / GS), or you can do a Hammer run and Banish (knock people off of cliffs hell yea) and shut down runners.
You can ALWAYS support with your Virtues, and if you trait for AH and the first in Virtues you can produce a LOT of group healing while having a long life in mid-combat.
Pure DPS is possible if you want to run full Zerker gear, Pure meatshield bunker is possible with full Valkyrie gear, hybrid DPS with limited support is possible with Sword and GS, hybrid support with limited DPS is possible with Hammer and valkyrie gear.. et cetera..
You can define how you play the Guardian, really. It isn’t as OMG <CLASS> RUN as other classes but if you’re built the right way 1v1 people will run from you or wish they had.
Only downside is ranged but with GS leap, Hammer jump, Sword flash, Judges Intervention, Save Yourselves, Retreat.. blah blah blah.. You get the idea. You can close the gap, keep them IN range, and pound them down. All while healing yourself and allies.
It all depends on my team comp, if I am running with a lot of heavy DPS I stick with Hammer and CC/Banish people in to my group to get obliterated. If there is more support than DPS I go Sword/Focus and GS and do my burst combo. I have Valkyrie and Zerker stat accessories for this also.
I can do a considerable amount of damage and group healing at the same time as a Guardian. There is nothing clear about them being solely healing, they are support through healing and a meatshield or facemasher depending on your gear and traits.
Except the massive healing and utility, and other weapons.. but I mean, those don’t matter, right?
Massive healing? Do we play the same game?
Massive healing is what monks have in GW.
WW and MB have absolutely 0 chance to get nerfed.
Have you ever actually tried an AH build?
And massive being relative to the lackluster healing that exists in this game to begin with.
He Leapt of Faith
Across a Chasm
Killed Himself
For a Mesmer Phantasm
I couldn’t possibly level a Warrior past level 5, that class is so ultimately boring and self-serving.
Engineers have so many different possibilities, and if you get a group of people that can help cover your disadvantages, you can shine in roles that may not seem that potent but end up being insanely helpful in PvP.
TL;DR : Buff our weak build, and balance our 100 nades build.
What’s your opinion about it?
The real question that needs to be asked, that underlies all of the issues that classes in this game have, is why are we forced to use a singular build that can draw so much attention to need being nerfed at all?
The problem is not that 100nades is good or bad, it in and of itself is a correct use of the game mechanics, the problem is that the game mechanics for Engineers force people like yourself (and this isn’t a negative thing for you, just for Engineers in general) to use one build because without it they don’t feel as if they can contribute meaningfully.
We need not ask whether it’s good or bad, we need to ask the GW2 team to consider doing an overhaul of Engineer in accordance with the current bug list and the intended design of the class. Only then will we have multiple useful builds that will allow people freedom instead of being forced in to glass cannon suicide bomber roles in PvP areas.

Except the massive healing and utility, and other weapons.. but I mean, those don’t matter, right?
Well once you normalize everyone’s speed to be faster.. The same issue crops up. People can’t catch anyone else or get out of fire..
We has Scepter?
tl;dr Learn to avoid damage. Dodging skillfully is the key.
Couldn’t have said it better. It’s the key in EVERY game mode.
I have a hard time thinking of a profession that will be less affected by AoE nerfs than the Guardian.
Dagger/Dagger Thief
Right Hand Strength has the same issue as Sigil of Superior Accuracy for me on my Hammer. I’m sure the %crit is there but it just doesn’t update the tool-tip.
It also doesn’t do the same on the skill builder for the Hammer but will on Sword/Shield.
Gem for +7% or just boon duration if you want to always run at Swiftness speeds.

I run full Knights Draconic, Ruby Orichalcum or Beryl Accessories depending on how hard I want to hit, use Soldier runes to enable me to keep moving in PvP if I get slowed, and Destroyer weapons. Sword/Shield works amazing, with food and Save Yourselves I get almost to 100% crit and just keep chaining auto attacks. Switch to Hammer and or Mace depending on my team comp (Hammer if I am not the only frontline meatshield, otherwise I use Mace for its #3), Scepter for defending WvW keeps, Staff for moving around the map.

This is the build I currently run with a Hammer as weapon swap. I also have a Scepter and Staff in bag depending on what I’m doing. Sigils can be whatever you want but I stack as much crit as possible, if I need to get real dirty or I am outnumbered I pop Save Yourselves and with food I get crit over 100%, use the vigor talent to constantly beef my endurance and dodge, and save my knockdown to use with Judges so I can open up with as much frontload as possible.
I wear Full Knights Draconic, Ruby Orichalcum Accessories (switch out with Beryl if needed for AH/Crit Hammer), and Destroyer Hammer/Sword/Shield. Still testing out different models of the Destroyers, but I really like Valkyrie on them. Could always go with Zerker if you need more crit.

Np dubak, always factor in screen resolution in to builds. It can greatly affect performance.
I think we need the opposite, more generalized steampunk elements. Moving-gear shields for every class, steam-fuming shoulderpads, upgraded siege weaponry that has multiple or heavier counter-weights, etc.
It’s at the point that even though I am 80 and in full Knights Draconic with the Primeval Skin that I would rather farm the Moletariat and get the Dredge Armor. (The medium dredge armor is so awesome..)
I also run 8gb of RAM and an SSD.
Well I am running an equivalent Intel chip and don’t have these issues is why I posted that.
The Q6600 does hammer the goat milk out of the Phenom, though. I’m just barely at the CPU threshold of being comfortable.
If you want endless survivability, go Guardian. At 80 with an AH/Crit build and assuming I am not being kited by multiple ranged characters I can go toe to toe with any melee or short-range class and stuff their face in their underwear with a few swings. With a bunkerish build, (20k hp, 3.1k armor) I can stay to toe with an entire zerg long enough to set the stage for the group behind me to begin breaking them down, and most of the time I can use just my shouts with Soldier runes to stay alive for the duration of the ‘omg burst’ stage.
The Guardian IS the opposite of the Elemental though. Limited range, high health and toughness, heals team-mates by being in melee range, doesnt have to go through 4 sets of swapping to achieve a combo (you can really stick with one weapon if you’re not being a frontline pusher if you don’t want to).
Try it out, it’s not as up-front face-mashing as Warrior (which I found boring), but it has serious potential. It’s more of, you and your friends can’t possibly kill me in the time it’ll take for me to kill you.
The CHEAPEST upgrade is to use a smaller resolution monitor. I personally play on a 40" LCD TV that runs 1366×720, because my eye-sight sucks AND I can max the game settings out sitting on a Q6600 and HD5870.
Think about it.. this is something people miss. Your screen resolution is going to be the biggest direct impact on a GPU’s capabilities to render the game.
Example: A 1920×1200 monitor (like the old Apple Cinema Display I used) had a total of 2.3 million pixels. The amount of pixels on a 1366×720 screen is.. 983,520.
That’s 2.3 times the amount of pixels to render. Of course you’re not going to have a reduction in performance by a factor of 2.3 exactly since you still share the overhead of the GPU and all that other fancy crap going on at the same time. But you can definitely see a difference.
A 1920×1200 monitor can run the game on Medium for me with and turns in to a slide show in 60+ WvW battles. On my 40" TV at 1366×720 I can push best Appearance and never go below 45 FPS.. and this is all legacy hardware. Not to mention it’s bigger, my GUI is easily visible, I can sit far away, the TFT doesn’t hurt my eyes because it doesn’t exist in my TV, AND I don’t have to go ‘Crap, I need an upgrade because I am only running 12 FPS and my system is old..’. Try a smaller resolution monitor (not size, RESOLUTION), and tell me how you like it.
Some people like massive resolutions and it does make things look sharper, but for me I still want all the shine and pretty effects and to be able to see with no eye strain OR be forced in to buying a huge system upgrade.
As per my experience in WvW the only limit Shouts have is their range. I’ve might-stacked and AH healed dozens of people at a time.
I take the lack of response from my incident tickets and this forum post as a desire to not take my money. If that’s what you want then fine, but I was offered a service, used it, and am now denied it without any response or justification. Can SOMEONE tell me what is going on here?
If you have tried to make a purchase in the Gem Store and have experienced issues, please post in this thread. Kindly include your 12-digit Incident Number in your post.
Thank you!

I want to buy gems but can’t, character in a half-finished state because of this.
And I can’t even log in to the support page without being redirected to see if the ISSUE is even being RESOLVED. What is going on!?
Support,
I have put in a ticket and have yet to hear anything on purchasing Gems. I have purchased a large amount recently but would like to continue doing so (I love supporting the game and getting my character in tip-top shape).
Please respond as soon as possible..
