Well in this situation the two decided to let you keep your elite up for whatever reason. Generally in WvW Rangers have a lot of room to run around making it easy for them to kite.

WvW situations tend to favor the Ranger because of the ability to kite. Playing against a couple awful players tends to help as well.

Three Reasons GW2 Will Never be an E-Sport

GW2 can become an Esport however it lacks many of the features needed to become one. Three examples of successful esports that come to mind are Starcraft 2, Dota, and Counter Strike.

All of these games are very successful and they have a few things in common.
1. a WORKING queue system that doesn’t allow for premades to play pubs
2. A way to spectate or watch replays of games
3. A viable way for players to solo queue
4. Punishment for players that leave games
5. Some tangible way for players to compare themselves or their team against others

Until Guildwars 2 includes all of these it will never become an e-sport.

i del some long text in this but are these game MMORPG?

pls another question dont take it like joke i dont really know:

any MMORPG game with pvp have working esport part?
(most MMORPG i know dont have perfect class balance and some dont have it even good)

MMORPG or any other genre needs to have those 5 things for an overall healthy population. Solo queue is needed to allow more casual players to “test the waters” and if they enjoy it they may want to become more competitive.

Having the ability to track progress is what keeps players playing. Game types like pvp are mostly about compositions, player skill, and tactics. These are all things that players must LEARN to improve. Being able to watch replays, spectate games, and compare oneself to others is essential to learning.

It doesn’t matter what kind of game let it be fighting, fps, or strategy.

To answer the second question, WoW is the closest it’s come to competitive e-sports. Even that didn’t have the features needed to succeed but instead had a vast population. As that population decreased WoW as an e-sport has taken a back seat.

Never once have developers developed an MMO to be an e-sport.

GW2 can become an Esport however it lacks many of the features needed to become one. Three examples of successful esports that come to mind are Starcraft 2, Dota, and Counter Strike.

Starcraft 2: 2010
-5 brackets (bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond) Players are put into these brackets based on their performance of their first 5 games. Winning in your bracket a lot would result in a promotion into the next bracket. Losing would result in demotions so after ~50 games players would usually be in the bracket they belonged. What does this do?

It allows players casual or hardcore to track their progress in a tangible way. Not only where there brackets but divisions that displayed 100 players per division. Through these divisions players could track themselves against other players of similar skill and see exactly how many points they gained or lost after a match. This is what gets people addicted to competitive games. They are always trying to get better and improve themselves so with brackets/divisions they have the tools to do so. Not only that but the game automatically records every game so the player can view them to seek improvement.

Starcraft 2 is mostly balanced around 1v1 but there are team queues that can be done through solo queue or with others. These have separate mmrs from 1v1s and are put into their own brackets.

Dota 2 (2012)
5 v 5 Moba style game with an easy to use queue system. The player can choose which game mode they prefer to play and even queue with friends. Only on very rare occasions will a premade ever play a pub. The mmr system is hidden, however there are three brackets (regular, high, very high) that players are put into based on their performance. Solo queue is fairly balanced however the community is toxic. This is an unfortunate side effect that all competitive Mobas suffer from but their are ways around it by muting players/reporting them.

Not only are there solo queues but team queues! This allows players to register teams and play against other teams of similar skill. After playing 3 games your team is awarded with a rating and the players are able to compare their own rating versus other teams. Not only that but players are able to see just how much they are gaining or losing after each match.

There is a punishment for players that disconnect for 5 minutes straight and don’t come back. This causes the game to be abandoned and the team that lost a player is allowed to leave without penalty. The player that abandoned will be put in low priority queue for x amount of time so it will be harder for them to find games. Not only that but the games often won’t count for stats and if they leave those they get even more time added to low priority.

The cherry on top of all of these features are the live/past games that players can watch from the client. Players can watch live games of tournys or matchmaking at any time. They also have access to their own replays and others replays at almost any time.

Counter Strike (Global Offensive 2012)

Counterstrike has long had a fallowing because of its simple to play difficult to master format. With Counter Strike Global Offensive they offer a queue system as well as the ability to join servers. In the queue system it assigns you a hidden mmr and allows the player to queue for a variety of game types. These include the traditional bomb/defuse, hostage, and recently added gun game. Players are given the option to play a more casual mode or tourny rules mode. In all formats of matchmaking players are punished for leaving before the game is over. Players are not punished from leaving servers so this allows for matchmaking to be reserved for players that are willing to commit x amount of time per match. This ensures the enjoyment of the game won’t be ruined for everyone else.

There is unfortunately not much of a way to watch replays however players can spectate games if they wish to watch.

All of these games are very successful and they have a few things in common.
1. a WORKING queue system that doesn’t allow for premades to play pubs
2. A way to spectate or watch replays of games

Good video and fairly entertaining. Unfortunately WvW has a lot of factors involved that make make it imposable for class balancing. It’s a shame Rangers cannot achieve similar results in Tpvp without having to run the trap build.

Kill/Death ratio

Midenoche.2564

After playing Mobas like Hon/Dota and fps games, K/d is an awful stat to have. It discourages playing as a team and influences players to play selfishly. Solo queuing for tournys would become a headache and finding pick up groups would be worse.

In Tpvp if your team starts losing people will only seek kills. Rather than defending or capping a point they will roam around like a zerg in spvp. The reason for this will not only be ego driven but to make themselves look better. Things like rank, rating, stats are generally showed off or used by players to form teams.

The more stats get added the more messages like these will pop up in game, "LF 2 members for tournys must be rank 30, at least 2.0 k/d, 60% win rate, X average damage, blah blah blah. This will create an artificial barrier and a sense of elitism that many hated in other games such as WoW arenas or Moba games.

Not every player builds their character to be a killing machine and instead chooses to support. Stats like k/d punish these players and force them to play to a certain build in order to find teams. In a game like Hon I’ve seen players with a .7 k/d support amazingly well and we would not have won without them. A result of this is players seeing that .7 k/d and assume the player is awful and will discredit anything they say.

The last thing I would want in GW2 pvp is that kind of elitism infecting the community and breed a bunch of pretentious players like Mobas have.

In games such as Dota or Hon the icon lights up when you have found a game. It would be cool if GW2 did that for tpvp, so I can alt tab while waiting for people to ready. It would make having to wait for games to start a lot easier.

Greatsword is awful for damage and there is no point in grabbing signets if you’re not putting 30 into marksmen. If this is WvW trade the greatsword with sword/warhorn. If this is tpvp trade the longbow for shortbow and greatsword for sword/warhorn.

In GW1 you could be a petless Ranger and there were pet Rangers. Sadly they have taken that freedom away in GW2 and force you to work with pets. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if pet Ai isn’t so atrocious.

It’s particularly sad in pvp when your pet barley attacks anyone because they have to stop and attack. Pet animations for there abilities take a long time to get off and are fairly obvious in tpvp.

Your argument = invalid
Edit: Dear mods,
This is constructive to the topic because it proves why Tpvp isn’t the best solution for 5v5. Not all of us have a vast group of people to pvp with, so we can’t always form teams. We are not asking for tourny rewards for 5v5 server just the opportunity to play in a casual way similar to 8v8. In this setting tpvp builds can be practiced and learning to fight in a 5v5 setting instead of an 8v8. I’m surprised I have to explain this so you won’t delete it, however you allow other “non constructive” posts here.

Classes like Warrior/Mesmer/Thief are just very easy to be efficient with. People confuse that with being OP, however once bug fixes come out other classes should come into line.

It’s not so much things are op, it’s that there’s a ton of bugs. Lots of skills/traits not working like how they should and other things that were just completely over looked. Once Anet starts fixing the classes things should improve a little bit.

Rangers Compared to other Classes?

in Ranger

Midenoche.2564

When people are complaining they have the short end of the stick I would assume it’s for PvP reasons.

So yes the ranger is probably the best class in PvE because it has a baller kitten pet, but on the other hand we dont have a role in competitive PvP teams because we dont outshine any other class at anything.

^ Essentially this.

Out of most of the successful Tourny teams most don’t include Rangers. The only other class that is very unrepresented it necros and I believe both classes need some fixes. Once they actually fix pets to be much more responsive Rangers may have a fighting chance.

Sadly at the moment Rangers are the jack of all trades class.

Edit: Skolvikings I’m not sure how you ended up with 80 trait points but fill a bug report.

So it’s perfectly okay for other classes to have on demand condition removal, however we have to depends on the pet being in range? Hell most of the time when I hit f3 the pet ignores it. This can’t be balanced and if it is than it’s no wonder Rangers aren’t picked up often in tpvp.

Empathic Bond is the ONLY defense we have against immobilize and that’s a joke.

We also have Signet of Renewal passive, Signet of Renewal active, and Bear F2. You could also do what I do and just run Protect Me instead of Lightning Reflexes. That way you don’t die no matter what kind of cc is being used on you.

Don’t get me wrong – I agree that Ranger has crappy condition removal. I’m just pointing out that we have more options than you suggest.

At the very least, I think Empathic Bond should be moved to tier 1. Guardians have an identical trait, except it doesn’t require a pet and it’s tier 1 instead of tier 3. Empathic Bond isn’t even remotely powerful enough to warrant tier 3 status.

The signet does not remove immobilizes and the bear f2 is so unreliable that it will go off after the root is over. It’s silly that we would have to use our only means of healing to break root.

We were out taking some supply camps and events when we noticed something. A large group of players (20 – 30) were all following each other and obviously botting. Some of them were naked from gear damage and never would fight back. They simply kept running around in circles.

This is really disappointing and I hope Anet can monitor the borderlands and prevent this.
