I do have a good question. A sensible question, and I really hope you won’t get offended when I ask it. What is the evolutionary advantage of homosexuality, bisexuality, etc? Most things we support in our morals has some kind of advantage, but I have yet to see any conclusive data on this bit. There is the “Homosexual Uncle” argument: “an individual whom provides food and shelter but does not supply excess offspring.” But this feels a bit lacking when you apply it to the natural world, as not all creatures that exhibit homosexuality have instincts that influence them to care for others. And this argument does not apply to bisexuality in the least, as they may still have children. So far, it doesn’t seem very practical.

Not a biologist or anthropologist, but I’m not sure there has to be an evolutionary advantage to every possible human trait or behavior. What is the evolutionary advantage of having red hair, or chin dimples, or having that gene that makes coriander/cilantro taste like soap, or preferring the color blue? Evolution and ‘survival of the fittest’ doesn’t necessarily mean that all characteristics have a concrete or verifiable purpose, as I understand it, it just means that certain traits, and how they interact with their environment, have a greater or lesser odds of surviving to future generations. And this can change over time, as the environment changes.

I’m not sure I’d agree that most of human morality is drawn from natural advantage, either; certain taboos like incest (which have nonetheless frequently been ignored when it comes to royalty and nobility), or rituals surrounding the handling of the dead can definitely have a biological impact. If you take something else though – say, stealing – theft would arguably have an evolutionary advantage, since more food and wealth for me would seem to mean more likelihood of me passing on my genes. Pure social Darwinism would probably advocate quite a lot of things that our society deems immoral, in fact, like eugenics, violence, slavery, and corporate and political corruption.

Because of the founder effect some groups of people may have slight advantages or disadvantages over others. Dark skin people have higher resistance to UV rays and lower vitamin D. This is way black people don’t need to use a whole bottle of sunscreen or get sunburnt as easily. They have a very low chance of skin cancer compared to light skinned people. But people with light skin are better at producing and metabolizing vitamin D and less prone to rickets and other bone problems because of the ability to make move vitamin D. Is this racist no, it is only racist if you see it as them and us because we are all human.

Eugenics isn’t necessarily bad it’s just another why of saying artificial selection we got hundreds of breeds of dogs, chickens, pigeons by using it. It’s just when it is used because you think it will make your group of people better then another that its bad.
We do it all the time in first wold countries, it’s called an abortion the British have one of the lowest rates of down syndrome because of it.

Violence is a human concept we refer to anything that is hostile to our existence as violent a hurricane, outer space, a lion devouring a baby antelope. Like with the dragons what seems like the end of the world to npc’s is trivial to them. Just like today people act like climate change is going to be the end of us when to the Earth its trivial.
Evolution is simple adapt, move, or die same with life with the dragons.

Some ants enslave because it’s there nature, humans do it for power.

There is a difference between “being skeptical of scientists” and “being skeptical of science”, my friend. Science isn’t something you can be skeptical of, because it exists outside of whims, purposes, or intent. Science doesn’t care whether or not you need 2+2 to equal 5 if that’s not how it works. No malice, no ill will, just how it works.

Scientists, on the other hand . . . are people. They’re flawed. Their interpretation can be flawed. They might have approached the subject in a flawed manner. Of course you should question them, but if you’re not able to give a rebuttal to their work other than “you’re wrong because I say so” . . .

Question everything, including the need to question.

But science is a abstract human concept that we have created of things that we see as true though observation and even then can be wrong or misinterpreted.

Science can be questioned there are many times something was viewed as improbable or pseudo-scientific that held up to scrutiny and was proved true. etc the laws of physics had to be completely reworked in order to understand how a heavier then air fixed winged machine could fly without flapping its wings like a bird, we got the laws of aerodynamics out of that.

Like Michio Kaku says impossible is a dirty word in science. Of course then you have the pure BS like the stuff on History channel and Animal planet that they pass as real because people are to stupid to know entertainment from real science.

Where do we draw the line in what is moral?

Easy. When something infringes on the well being of others, or damages society as a whole, it becomes unacceptable to us.

There are plenty of times in history were something was viewed as morally correct or incorrect that infringed on human rights as people in Western culture view them. and who is “US”, humans? People in America?, Asia?, Europe. Who sets the standard America isn’t the only culture. We are very good at being kittens as a whole species regardless.

Why do we have morals?

Because we are a social species, and * a civilized society cannot exist without rules that people mutually agree upon.*

Doesn’t this make India and China uncivilized then? Civilized means having culture not really meant to be used as a disparaging term for cultures or ways of life you don’t agree with.

How much of our society is wrong?

A society is never right or wrong. It always has flaws, and it always has good things. What one society finds horrible, another might embrace. It is all in the eye of the beholder.

So why are we still egging each other on? Nether of you will stop till the other yields…

Mike Winters.6871

Is anything known about the biology of wurms? Because all known wurms except this new boss start out as a miniture version of its parent after hatching and is called a hatchling… Yet this one has larvae.

Even other jungle wurms that share the model of the Great Jungle Wurm appear as mini adults as a baby/hatchling when they first hatch. Yet baby Great Jungle Wurms which you would think are just a that a very large Jungle Wurm; BUT they start out as a larvae upon hatching with grub like appearance that indicates they go though some kind of metamorphosis from insect like to plant like animal. Since plant aren’t know to start as a larvae.

Krait and Forgotten

Mike Winters.6871

 • Nothing really says that was concept art of the Forgotten really – all we know is that it is titled “Serpent”. But even if it was, I mean, this is a devourer – one thing Prophecies had was that very early concept art didn’t really look like the in-game model.

The GW2 the wiki picture description of the Forgotten shows that picture so it gives the impression that it is concept art of Forgotten even if it is just meant to be a random flying snake.

In universe someone could have made the mural of serpent, but what inspired it a description of a krait elementalist or healer? Or are all or some of the in game concept art irrelevant?

 • I would hardly say the naga resemble Forgotten – keep in mind that the manual transcripts are written from in-universe perspectives and thus are fallible. Those “Tyrian visitors” likely never actually saw a Forgotten, and as such were going off of descriptions of them or the whole “they’re snakemen” idea. They don’t resemble each other at all in actuality.

But why would a Tyrian say they resemble on another unless at least one of them has encountered both of the exotic species to compare them with each other.

 • “Anet says the relationship with forgotten and krait is unknown but nether are related to the naga.” I don’t recall this said.

I dont know if anet said it but i was paraphrasing what the GW2 wiki says on the Forgotten. The history page doesn’t show who added that line but It doesn’t appear before one of your edits, you are the expert so i assume you or someone else got it from a reliable source.
(Though there are other serpentine races, such as the krait and naga, the forgotten are said to come from the Mists, and are not related to the naga. Their relation, if any, to the krait is unknown. )

Can we get a source? I mean, Forgotten have 4 arms, krait (except one form in EotN) Anet likes reconning stuff.

according to wiki
forgotten + naga = no relation
forgotten + Krait = Unknown??
Krait + naga = Unknown??

 • The jotun have no records of ever being off of continental Tyria. They don’t include mentions of djinn or karka surviving the last Elder Dragon rising, but those two sentient races certainly did – presumably in Elona.
 • Forgotten are not immune to dragon corruption, neither physically nor mentally. At least as far as we know. They just deviced/discovered a spell which gave minions free will again. Reversal (kind of sort of) is not the same as immunity.

Someone edited wiki then to make it look like immunity was a fact. Maybe they do have some special magic though because they are analogous to the sylvari and had to face glint head on somehow in order to get her to be purified without being corrupted or killed by her.

Krait and Forgotten

Mike Winters.6871

Im just theory crafting but is it possible they are related? In GW1 Kraits and Forgotten looked nothing alike; also kraits looked very different too .

According to the wiki the Forgotten were devout followers of the human gods. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forgotten

The Forgotten concept art looks kind of like a GW1 Krait http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Krait_Devouss

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Naga the Naga are said to resemble the the forgotten, and in GW2 the krait look like the GW1 Naga and lost the transform ability. Anet says the relationship with forgotten and krait is unknown but nether are related to the naga.

Could the krait have been a extremist faction of Forgotten that became more extreme over time? Jotun stories never talk about krait they could have been the same thing in their time.

Forgotten like the sylvari are immune to elder dragon corruption except maybe mentally the, some forgotten might have been tricked for the sake of greed and power this could have made some of them vulnerable to elder dragon corruption. You don’t need a dragon to make you want power or be greedy, there is a skill point in bloodtide coast that promises you character both. Krait had an orb of unknown origin that granted them immunity to Zhaitan.

I probably worded half the stuff badly that I wanted to say .

So similarities both. rabidly devout to religion, serpintine, have access to magic that grants them immunity to a dragon(s), old race. Both don’t take kindly to defamation of beliefs. (Forgotten were hellbent on killing all of the margonites for defacing the shrines of the gods.)
Both good at magic they had healers, Eles, mesmers and necros.

Things not alike GW1 krait transform unlike GW1 forgotten. Krait have been reconned maybe Anet wants them to be more interesting like the jotun, mursaat and charr.
Krait are super xenophobic and forgotten are kinda friendly. Cant think of anything else.

The Dragons might not be evil.

“Genocide is “the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, Caste, religious, or national group”, though what constitutes enough of a “part” to qualify as genocide has been subject to much debate by legal scholars. While a precise definition varies among genocide scholars, a legal definition is found in the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG). Article 2 of this convention defines genocide as “any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.”*
And also:
“Generally speaking, genocide does not necessarily mean the immediate destruction of a nation, except when accomplished by mass killings of all members of a nation. It is intended rather to signify a coordinated plan of different actions aiming at the destruction of essential foundations of the life of national groups, with the aim of annihilating the groups themselves. The objectives of such a plan would be the disintegration of the political and social institutions, of culture, language, national feelings, religion, and the economic existence of national groups, and the destruction of the personal security, liberty, health, dignity, and even the lives of the individuals belonging to such groups”

I already did. Genocide is absolutely evil regardless of any context. But you just don’t understand what the word means. But after posting such an elaborate quotation of what “it is”, even you have no further excuse not to understand it.

Every law ever spoken or written by Humans in real life is arbitrary and is always used in a way to defend their own beliefs. Just because a bunch of politicians say something is the the right definition doesn’t mean it is, look at the word Marriage does the Oxford dictionary’s new definition right?. And anyone else that thinks otherwise a stark razing mad loon for not seeing it that way. English is an evolving language and so are international laws what is good today can be see as a crime against humanity in 100 years.

I haven’t really fought Risen recently (while paying attention to what they say) so I don’t recall all of their death lines. But all I recall is “The light fades…” and “Rest…” for death calls. The former sounds like not wanting to die, the later sounds like them just being exhausted, which seems little different than if a living person were to die.

(for the record, my memory is good for things I see, not things I hear… I tend to forget a lot of things I hear but don’t see 8D).

I’m pretty sure many of them are glad for release. You forgot their line of “At last…” which is not ambiguous but quite definite on their view on their own undeath in the last moment of reclaimed clarity – when Zhaitan’s remote control curse lifts from their mind.

In light of this, I’m inclined to believe that “Rest…” is also an exclamation of joyous freedom from torment. The risen were snidely denied of their rest (the souls of some were snatched from the Mists even) after all. They can finally depart and be at peace.

But their souls are free zhaitan just keeps the body and mind then throws out the soul except for champions like the eyes of zhaitan

The developers made an exact comment about this during the Beta Weekends when the NDA was lifted for that footage.

Basically the answer is: No.

Why?

Because it’s not your game, it’s theirs. Sure you’re playing it. But you’re still asking to make money off of their property., which isn’t right.

Now, a show like Bog Otter’s, which is 80% him in front of the camera, and 20% showing certain aspects of the game (new gem store items, new gear, new story lines, etc.) is okay to monetize because it’s mostly him and not gameplay. That’s the major difference.

Bogotter is OK but he is not Pewdiepie when it comes to influence and income.

This is what i mean, the most influential and successful you-tubers that film themselves playing games do the opposite. with 80%+ just playing games casually without a care in the world, not always with a face cam and all they do is roleplay.

none of powerful you-tubers say today im am going to show you how to do
A then B then C about a game they just play it while talking nonsense.

If that is true then Anet is gonna have it’s hands full with all the people in this part of the forum that are making money off their game even if it is just pennys.

Maybe the calling of power, strength and wealth is what the DSD promises to those thy brave the deep waters. The deep on earth is low in large food scorces. The depths of Tyria to be the same. By calling to the common desires of Tyria’s intelligent life Bubbles could be insuring a food supply from land when deep water food is rare.

Isn’t much to go on one skill point does say a Thirst for wealth, maybe it makes those that desire for power, strength and wealth thirst for more, Thirst being related to the desire for liquids The DSD might desire life and blood being considered a life force might be its attempt at making or becoming life. To achieve this it would need to be blood Thirsty

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Krait_Place_of_Power

wiki doesn’t say anything but the skill point says that there is a primal calling for you that promises power and strength and it is calling from the planets core to those that take the skill point. There are risen krait near by because Zhatian got them first, the only dragon that promises power and strength is Jormag that we know of yet this deep under water form within the earth. so maybe a dragon in the planets mantle?

Also http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Beckoning_Force
The water pooling beneath Taidha Covington’s base on Laughing Gull Island is strangely cold. It ripples with an unseen power that beckons to those with a thirst for wealth.

we know Zhaitan’s army is invading the Blood Tide Coast but that doesn’t explain these two skill points

Maybe the dragon is the corrupted aspect of nature it’s self.

All of the sylvari are close to nature , the pale tree sylvari are the “good” part of nature. They spread life, want to protect, heal and other “good” things we associate with nature.

The one sylvari of the other pale tree is more like nature as it, cruel and unforgiving one minute and friendly and forgiving the next. forgot his name but he acts like caithe.

The nightmare court are nature when she is feeling like being a kitten cruel, unforgiving, remorseless and any other “bad” aspect.

Maybe the reason plants are corrupted is because they are closer to nature and the dragon it’s self.

The dragon being “evil” of course is going to not want the “good” aspect and want the world to be more Darwinian. Like a cat playing with a mouse it just wants to have “fun”

The source of the dream/nightmare?

in Lore

Posted by: Mike Winters.6871

Mike Winters.6871

Could the source be the magic of the preservation bloodstone.

In GW1. We know that the magic of The Bloodstone is radiating into the water table and that is how the area around The Bloodstone is so overgrown.

The pale tree is planted within the Bloodstone’s influence.
Because of all the preservation type magic the Pale tree would have been able to get big off of the magic because the area and magic acted like uber miracle grow.

Now maybe because the pale tree is intelligent it can sense the magic that has been locked up and flowing around it and in side it’s roots.
The Pale tree doesn’t bother questioning the dream because it would be like asking how It grew so big. To the Pale Tree all it needs to now is was just planted in a nice healthy spot with lots of other overgrown plants and has no reason to question why.

[spoiler= The other Pale tree may have grow out side of the swamp or at least above the area of the water table that was influenced by the bloodstone hence no dream that and the other Pale tree that made the sylvari probably kittend most of miracle grow for its self since growing fast can be seen as a survival advantage.
Now to the nightmare. In GW1 we know people were killed over the bloodstone maybe causing negitive energy to go into the stone we know the the murrsat hated the the Bloodstone’s creators so why not kill people on it out of spite hence corrupting it. The bloodstone would have absorbed the suffering because its preserving. It doesn’t see good bad or ugly just that it needs to preserve whatever touches or is influenced by it.

Then Bloodstone’s reduced influence could be because the pale tree absorbed must of it
