I run full marauders with traveler runes, power and might gain sigils. I also run the less popular trait empowering might. I can usually spike stack around 15 might against 1 or 2 foes, and quickly stack up to 25 in a mob, for myself and others. This is straight physical damage with good crit.
Umm Firefighter class? Whatever.
Bad condi… I think not. See below.
Survivability: you have two lives.
Nuff said.
Really? Somehow this seems fishy to me. So what now?
Balloons and more balloons? Each one able to be dyed. Multiple balloons? Yea balloons =)
Unless you are looking to do higher level fractals and need the infusion slots for agony resistance, raids with a group that require it, or WvW teams and guilds that require it, ascended isn’t really super beneficial over all to your stat increases. The ability for multiple sets to be switched between toons and the ability to change the stats in the mystic toilet to suit you taste, however, is very beneficial. Ascended isn’t absolutely necessary but it is a nice luxury item to add bragging rights.
Thanks so much for organizing this event and allowing us to give back to the community.
I bought the ultimate edition and was part of the three day head start. Tyria is my home away from home. Keep up the good work Anet. I have made several friends in this community, a friendly community. I have nothing negative to say about this game.
Well I constantly pick up lopsided players who can’t keep themselves alive due to their concentration on damage output. DPS is important, which is what I meant when I said “if it’s dead it can’t kill you”. All I was pointing out is that a party not being able to handle sustained damage is also not effective.
To imply that I do not understand the mechanics of the game is totally incorrect on your part.
Not all condi removal skills remove multiple stacks. Read the descriptions associated with them.
Necros can remove party wide condi, Mesmers can transfer conditions and steal boons, Guardians have contemplation of purity and POV…yadda yadda. Condition cast times times can be easily interrupted, this is true. I wasn’t stating that full condi is better, simply that physical damage can be negated by blocking, or other absorption skills and that it is not always the best choice in every situation.
You still have several different combinations now that item stats determine the additional value added to your base value. It makes things a bit more customized gear wise. It’s still a pretty new system that is not totally perfect.
The new system has combined some of the older traits into one skill, and added some new ones. Some are beneficial and some are not. Ah and POV combo when back lining with guardian is one of my favorites. Before it meant sacrificing power and critical damage for healing and condition removal. Now, since power and precision are based on item stats added to base values, it is even an more viable combination because of the higher damage outputs.
I think that creating a new toon isn’t the best solution. There is plenty of information out there on the changes and how they apply. I know that having to do research isn’t what you may have had in mind when wanting to play the game.
Either way, it’s still fun to play.
I believe the elite specializations will be released in the patch.
Very informative analysis but if ferocity was the new multiplier, is the information applicable now?. Critical damage is important but not the only factor. If you consider condition builds, since conditions do not critical, high critical damage is pretty much useless. High physical damage can be negated far easier than negating multiple condition stacks since they ignore armor stats, and most condition removal skills do not remove every stack every time. I believe in balance and the ability to adapt quickly far more valuable than high damage numbers. It’s not about how hard you hit, but about how hard you can be hit (by physical and condition damage) and still be standing at the end of it all. Ask yourself this: how valuable is your “extreme critical damage” if you are downed? Well let’s explore that shall we?
You get downed, which means you are doing less damage, if any, and someone else has to stop doing damage to help you up. If you do the math, balanced damage and the ability for every party member to keep doing it results in better over all party wide damage output. There is one thing we should all consider: If it’s dead, it can’t kill you.
I can ramble on about how full Zerker makes me cringe, I hate it personally, but if it is your style I say go for it.
If you have the laurels I say do it. if you don’t, there is always item promotion in the forge. Gw2 wikki has all the recipes.
Well there is always the possibility of getting a rare item of your level, like kitten rare, or after lvl 65 getting an exotic of your level. Not top tier loot mind you, but probably higher stats than stuff you can craft, and cheaper than buying it. The real advantage though is there is always the chance of getting a decent rune that will sell well at the trading post. You can also take whatever rares or exos you get for your level, salvage them and get the mats and magic find, or try your luck in the “mystic tiolet” for a named item.
In all reality, the chance of getting anything decent out of the bags at lvl 80 isn’t super great either, you still get a lot of junk, but you will get better item stats, etc.
Personally I think 100% rep is a bad idea. I already have a job, and GW2 is a relaxation tool, so the last thing I want is for someone else to tell me what exactly I need to be doing. If 100% rep were necessary then multiple guilds would not be allowed. the guild I co-run is not 100% rep, not world specific, and the only requirement…FUN! Isn’t that why the majority of us play anyway? I was kicked from the guild I was in before I started this one because I didn’t rep 100%. I think the leaders who kick people form their guilds because they don’t rep 100% of the time owe those members a refund for all of the influence, time, energy, and whatever other contributions they added, during the time they did chose to rep.
Ascended items don’t really give that much of a boost, but they do give a tiny edge. The game can be played successfully with just exotics. Unless you are running high level fractals, or on specific requirement wvw teams, ascended is not that big of a deal. I really haven’t noticed too much increase in dps, etc., between ascended and exotic. It’s just one of those things you have to say “look what I got” and show it off.
Ascended stuff is kind of a pain to craft. With the recent addition, being able to change ascended stats on weapons and armor in the “Mystic Toilet”, being able to change stats on ascended gear to find a suitable combination for your play style is a good thing imo. Especially if you took the time to craft ascended items only to find the stat combinations you chose don’t really work that well for you. Exotics work just fine, are cheaper and easier to craft, and can be sold at the trading post for decent money depending on the stats, sigils, or runes.
For AOE I like bow better personally, but they both work well. Using the bow burst into a crowd of other tanks can prove useful, and if their are guardians traited for extra damage against burning foes then it can actually be useful to them. It also produces fire shield (aura) which is somewhat useful, but not a whole lot imo.
Rifle has the a bit better one on one punch for the buck, and the critical damage is better. So meh, it’s a toss up.
Use what is best for the application.
I haven’t played in the last 7 minutes…Where oh were does the time go? I cant imagine being gone for 7 years =P
Adapting is part of the game, and so is doing silly stuff just for laughs.
Enough said. Other weapons are useful in certain applications. Play what you like and own it. Don’t let people decide for you.
I will agree though that there are certain things that work in certain situations.
Personally I"m a fan of Hammer builds,
Me too TBH. I like using hammer/staff in dungeons especially fractals. With AH and POV it’s good for support, and if the meta damage freaks don’t like it then they can run with someone else.
Again I just want to state : find the play style that works for you and own it.
I have so grown tired of the meta! People seem to forget one of the essential goals of creators of the game: creating your own play style. Play what you like, learn the best trait and equipment combos that work for you, get your timing down, and kitten the Zerk Jerks.
I use sword/focus main, and scepter/ torch or staff secondary. I like sword damage when combined with the vulnerability stacks from blind and burning. These can be enhanced with the use of the empowering might trait, which will also boost retalliation. Creatively be yourself and let the other sheep follow their trends off the cliff.
Shout Heal War FTW!
I tend to lean towards Valkyrie armor set with Rune of the pack. War horn sword, longbow. Using Zerker trinkets , except for the rings which are cleric, I can do decent shout heal party wide, and save my own kitten in the process. It also allows for 10-15 k crits with final thrust. War horn condi removal, shout heals, and signet of rage. For “grape juicetice” and signet also give a 20% crit chance. The burst skills crit decently as well. Rune of the pack gives speed boon duration so warhorn speed boost recharges before the boon runs out. Great fun for pve.
Well, I did the story and for some reason it seems like it didn’t unlock. It sais Gates of Maguuma completed but still sais 0/1. I can get in to Dry top, and while I’m outside of it, it get the green indicator for Prosperity’s Mystery. When I go in I have nothing indicating where to go. Did I do something wrong. I cant even repeat on my other lvl 80 alts. I’m totally confused.
I was just at the Ulgoth event chain and I have to say, the unorganized zerg at this event just took all of the fun out it. Too may people jumping ahead and killing the champions before others could even get there. I can see why making these part of guild events was created. That way everyone doing it can benefit and it can be organized. I just think that with the number of champions in this event chain everyone should be able to benefit from all of the bonuses at every spawn, not just when it is a guild event. What I saw happen today was just an unorganized mess of little to no reward for anyone.
