Leave it to Me achievement

So, I did my research before posting here. This achievement requires a ridiculous task. And from what I read I had two options. 1) get some friends to come help you. Or 2) Do it yourself but it will take a long freaking time.

I decided on 2. Because I’m a loner. And because if any achievement should be doable solo, it’s one called “Leave it to Me”.

But I got a network error after 30 minutes of my efforts.

I saw people mentioning that in another thread I found while googling. I have literally never seen this error before. In all my time playing. Which makes me very suspicious that this “error” is an intentional booting out of the instance because you don’t like the way I’m going about completing that achievement.

Which if that’s the case. I’m calling some BS. It should be soloable. Look a the name of the freaking Achievement.

Is there some special trick we are supposed to figure out to complete this thing? Or are we really expected to bring other people in there with us and just cheese it?

Call me ridiculous, but this is one of my favorite things I’ve seen in the expac thus far. The last thing I expected to find was a frog just sitting around having a jam session. This made me so happy for some silly reason.

Utility Skills and Elite Skills

Is it just me or do these options just kind of suck on the ele? Been playing a ranger lately and noticed a pretty big difference. I look at their utility and elite skills and actually feel the urge to swap them around and play them to the fights. They feel meaningful and interesting. On my Ele I run the same stuff pretty much constantly because it doesn’t feel like the choices matter. Especially the elite skill.

Both are legit QoL things that have been brought up tons of times. Maybe some day, but Anet hasn’t said anything as far as I know.

The pet stowage is extremely situational. 99.9% of the time you want the pet out doing things.

Not to me. I find it distracting and annoying during any kind of jumping puzzle. I just want to stow it and have it stay there till I call him back. =(

That and I was trying to make my personal story a little more interesting by handicapping myself and removing a lot of my gear (my god is it a snoozefest baseline….) but I realized I can’t even do that to try and make it more interesting. My stupid bird can solo everything! And I can’t make him go away!

And my eagle doesnt blind. It just bleeds. That’s it. The raven is the one that blinds. I really don’t need to be manually inputting that. It’s clearly meant to be a flat high dps option that gives 0 utility and just outputs as much raw damage as possible. But using it as is is incredibly annoying.

So I see there are complaints about druid pets to begin with, but I’m curious about a couple specific questions and if Anet has actually said anything about it, or if they have taken the mysterious silence approach.

1) Pets unstowing automatically. Why is it like this? Why can’t this be altered? I hit stow pet because I want to stow my pet… I do not want it bursting out of whatever pocket dimension I put it in without my say so… This isn’t a problem in other MMOs I play, so what gives?

2) Autofire of pet skill. I get that most pets have skills you would want to manually trigger. But some don’t. Some it’s just a serious nuisance having to press it… I use a bird because I love it. (More power to Mr. Tweeters!) But why I’m having to manually tell him to bleed things every 4 seconds is beyond me. It’s a flat DPS skill, not something that needs intelligent timing.

I read the stickied thread regarding pets and it was very informative (If still a giant excuse post…) but I didn’t see anything on if Anet had ever commented on these things outright or not. Is there any hope at all of such things being changed? ESPECIALLY the first one?

Endgame question: did GW2 find the answers?

I think the expectations of the MMO fans are unrealistic. They seem to want a game to provide endless entertainment for many hours a day, over the course of years.

This.

The primary question at the top of the post is kind of flawed out of the gates. There are players that will play a game 6 hours + every single day. Of course there’s not going to be enough content to sate them. There never will be. In any game.

And then there are people like me that can’t play very frequently at all. I’m often overwhelmed by all that I want to do, but don’t have time to do, and feeling pressure because content is temporary and if I don’t get it done fast enough I will end up losing out on ever achieving some things. I wish things like the Luminescent gear didn’t take such a, what is to me, insane amount of time to obtain.

Condition Damage: I’ve seen this mentioned elsewhere on the forums before, but I just wanted to add my voice to those. I know numbers matter in how seriously a complaint is considered. I also wanted to point out something I haven’t seen in other posts. This doesn’t just effect CD focused builds. It effects everyone in the game. I can make a fire wall on the ground. It’s virtually useless, other than for the projectile finisher aspect of it, which is SUCH a cool concept. But it’s rendered moot in big fights due to how CD currently works. Sigils and Runes that proc CD effects could be neat options. But they are ruined by how CD currently works. I have a talent that makes me have a chance to apply 1s of burn on crit that would be amazing in my build. But it’s crap because of how CD currently works. I haven’t heard of another MMO that has this problem at all. I’m a bit flummoxed that it is an issue honestly. I feel like it’s being left as is because fixing it would require a lot of re-balancing. Which would take lots of time and effort. But… sorry? Put in the time and effort and get this addressed. As I just proved, it effects every player in your game. It is one of two primary methods of dealing damage. It deserves the required attention.

Dyes: Where did they go…? I used to find them back when I played on release. The level of customization for appearance is a huge draw to the game for me. The dye system is a core of that. Unidentified dyes used to get me so excited. What gives?

Forum Preview: If a message is going to be too long to post, why doesn’t it warn me when I hit preview? -_- Obvious function should be obvious…

I’ve come back recently. Haven’t played since launch. I quit because the game didn’t click for me. I’m here now because it has this time. Thoroughly enjoying myself. But there’s a couple suggestions I wanted to make. Sorry if such things have been announced as coming in the expansion.

Talent/Skill Loadouts: One of my favorite elements of this game is how easy it is for me to switch up my play style. A complaint I used to have about the game is how dull the weapon skill system was. In a way, I still feel that is true, but it is mitigated heavily by how easy it is to switch. If you’re getting bored of something, just switch to one of the other options. Right then and there. But this can get very tedious with the current system. I’d love to save talent and utility skill configurations somehow so I can flip between setups easily.

Guild Bank Stacking: This is pretty darn baffling. Why can’t I add items to a stack in the guild bank? This just seems like shoddy coding to me. Not going to explain why it’s annoying. It should be obvious. Please fix it.

Bag Organization: This entire concept is kind of a mess… I could write a separate thread on it. But I’ll try and highlight. I want to have my salvage kits together in the upper left, followed by a set of spare harvesting tools, followed by general consumables. Because I want to be able to find them and use them easily. There is currently no good way of doing this. As I consume them and re-purchase them I have to reorganize all my stuff all over again. I have an invisible bag up there, but that doesn’t stop random items from showing up in those slots when I pick them up. It is actually even more annoying, because I salvage an item, those mats wind up in those slots, and now I can’t even auto deposit them! Dealing with my inventory is just a lot more of a chore than it ought to be. And including a basic sorting function in to the compact option is all it would take to improve it drastically. Or give us a way to hotkey items so it is no longer as important that I be able to find those items locations in my inventory anymore.

Or at least make the invisible bag ignore any and all automatic placement. Items only go in to it if I manually place them there. That’s it. At least then it’s easy to see I need 2 more stacks of salvage kits, and I can drag them in to their empty slots right after I buy them. And that annoying salvage problem will be fixed. But this is a less desirable fix than that posted above.

More Runes and Sigils: One of the things I disliked about this game was I felt I didn’t have enough ways to customize my build and playstyle, and to be creative about it. I recently tried the “Fresh Air” elementalist build, and I adore it. It’s the kind of build I love. It takes something seemingly awful and creatively stacks up a bunch of things to make it amazing. Scepters have never seemed anything more than trash to me, but the build capitalizes on chance on crit effects and makes the scepters rapid, though weak, attacks work in your favor. One of the core aspects is chance on crit sigils. I would love to see more of this. Runes and Sigils that don’t just hand you flat boosts to stats, but activate on various triggers and do various things for you. So we can get more quirky and creative with build ideas. And I don’t just mean make more runes and sigils. I also mean give us more at once! More slots to put them in and mix up their effects with. In my noobness I was looking over what two rune sets I’d use thinking I could rune my accessories. I was very excited about the possibilities. Then found out that doesn’t work. =(

(Note: I know there are lots of proc based rune bonuses and sigils. But a proc needs to be able to be relied upon granted intentional build design. If you can’t rely on a proc, you can’t consider it part of a build. It’s just a random extra. Unless the proc has a substantial enough impact to make its unreliable nature worth putting up with. This makes most of those existing runes and sigils garbage, as they are too random in activation or they have a cooldown too high to make reliable use of, and/or their effects aren’t potent enough to be worth unreliability.)

Didn’t read over everything but I have to say for the love of god yes to a trait loadout system. I adore that my PvP setup is saved separately from my PvE. But we really desperately need to be able to save trait and skill setups somewhere to swap between conveniently. The build I run WvW is far different from that which I run doing Silver Wastes, which is far different from that which I run while harvesting mats in lower level zones, etc. And that’s not taking in to account simply enjoying switching it up. Wanting to play DD instead of SF just because.

I seriously want a button to press to swap between loadouts.

I have to agree that this is annoying. I died once to an invisible wall while trying to get to a vista. Went to jump to something, mysteriously stopped in midair to an invisible wall, and plummeted to my death. Not cool. Not cool at all.

I’ve only recently started playing GW2 again since its launch. I still actively play World of Warcraft. I played FF14 recently. And all around I’ve played numerous other MMORPGs.

They are all different. Plain and simple. Not better or worse. Just different. There are two sides to every coin in life, and that includes every game design decision. What one person counts as a negative, another will count as a positive.

I enjoy all of the titles I just mentioned. If I had enough time in my life I would play all three of them. And would explore other games too! Variety is the spice of life. I go raid in WoW and thoroughly enjoy a system where everyone has very distinct roles and you feel like an individual. I am the hunter, and during this phase I need to do this thing, because my class is good at it. And even among my class, I can distinguish myself amongst other hunters with my skill at accomplishing the task. I can shine individually.

After raid I jump in to GW2, go to silver wastes, and enjoy the fluid combat system in which I am completely self reliant. I don’t need a tank. I can use evasion, conditions, and boons to mitigate my own damage and heal myself if needed. Fighting the various Vine Wrath bosses is like raiding in WoW, but with a totally different flavor. Instead of having to coordinate with 15 other people in a setting where 1 mistake could kill us all, I am zerging with so so many more people, battling monsters with mechanics that will one shot you, and in the mass chaos of the brawl it will eventually take you down. But that zerg of people will rush to lift you back up on to your feet. This alone is a profoundly cool difference between the games. I feel that in GW2, you are fully expected to go down. There is no healer spamming you to keep you alive, and no, there’s no tank. You’re gonna eat dirt sometimes. But unlike many other MMOs where you can’t raise a fallen ally in battle, GW2 lets you be triage and get eachother back up. Without limit.

In WoW you work together closely because you can only do 1 thing well, and therefore you NEED your comrades. In GW2 you work together because even if you can do everything, your enemies can and will outright overwhelm you if you are alone. And if you slip up and make a mistake, you can always pick each other back up for another try.

I feel like people that are looking for the “best” MMO to sink all their time in to are missing out. Especially with GW2 as an option. It’s free to play! There’s no reason you can’t jump on here and enjoy this flavor whenever you like. And in the end, if you just play one game all the time, you will end up bored and unsatisfied with it. It doesn’t matter how good the game is. If you do the same thing enough, it will get boring. That’s all there is to it.

As someone that owned a Naga 3 months, then it broke, and I bought a Logitech G600 I have to say go for the Logitech. Not just because my Naga broke in 3 months. But because the G600 is all around superior in my opinion.

But my opinions aside, here is a quantitative comparison from someone who used both a good amount.

- Naga is heavier and more solid. If you like a heavier mouse, that feels very solid, you’ll want the Naga. The G600 feels very light by comparison. Like, I feel like if I punched the G600 it would break. The Naga felt like it would just laugh at me and break my hand.
- Naga is more flexible in shape. It comes with interchangeable parts to change the over all shape of the mouse.
- Naga is smaller all around. Which makes it sort of ironic that the G600 is very notably lighter than the Naga.
- The Logitech’s software is inferior to Razer’s from my experience. In that it is buggier.
- The Naga’s side keys are much harder to get down. They all feel the same. training yourself to press the right ones is very very challenging. The G600 has nicely slanted buttons that help this drastically. It’s much easier to learn the G600.
- G600 has the third clicker they call G-shift. Naga doesn’t have a third clicker. (This is a huge factor in my love of this mouse. The third click is wonderful.)

Hope this helps.

Dare I ask... 'Healing ele'..?

I would recommend dropping that ideology. I completely understand where you are coming from. As someone that played the game for a while, quit pretty much because of this kind of thing just not working for me, and has returned and fallen in love with it, let me give a piece of friendly advice. Try and learn to embrace the homogenized calamity that is the combat of GW2. It’s weird, but it’s really fun once it clicks.

From what I have found, focusing on healing in any way shape or form is hugely undercutting the potential of the class. I mean what the poster above me said may be true, but that basically comes down to “In this one niche of the game you might be able to work it.” Do you really want to limit yourself to that one niche?

Any way to reduce elementalist "clickiness?"

People usually give me weird looks when I explain my key bindings. But I have a bad wrist and as a result, my left hand needs to have life as easy as possible. If you really want to get a nice easy to use layout of keys that keeps it all nice and close, such that you’re left wrist barely even has to do anything, I’ve got one for you. Just be ready for a serious adjustment phase. It’s VERY different from the base layout.

Move WASD over. Use ESDF for your movement keys instead.
Weapon skills 1-5 are bound to W, R, T, C, V
Heal is on Q
Utilities are on A, Z, X
Elite is on a side mouse button
Elemental attunements are on 2-5 (1 is uncomfortable to reach from a base point of ESDF)
Interaction button is G

Only thing critical that is unaccounted for is a dodge button. Assuming you don’t want to double tap. I have a super cool mouse and I have it on a third click. (my mouse has 3 clicks, not 2) But assuming you are not as bad off as I am, as to be restricted by your hand feeling numb if you overdo it, I’m sure you can find a key comfortably enough in reach to work for you.

C: Ok, Ted’s re-deaded. Set off the signal and lets go.

SC: There’s no way to set it off unless someone stays behind!

C:…… facepalm run that by me again?

SC: I’ll stay behind and make sure the signal gets placed. Don’t worry about me. I’m suicidal like every other NPC.

C: Look, there’s NOTHING up here to blow up ANYWAYS. TED IS DEAD. This is seriously NOTHING but a giant rock now. Lets just go back down there and keep going. We can all go home safe and sound. Until you die in the next quest to something completely avoidable and idiotic.

Random Sylvari Friend: I will miss you. And other dramatic things.

C: Holy crap, seriously, there are numbers you can call if you have these kind of proble… forget it.

C: …….Aaaaaaaaand the mountain is still there. All rocky and menacing and… well, doing what rocks do. Not much of anything.

RC: Right. And not producing giants anymore commander.

Fighting the Risen One Rock at a Time

Sylvari Chick: Commander, the tanks need your assistance in getting to the camp.

C: Big surprise there. You know. Since there’s only three of them.

SC: Just meet us over there when you’re ready.

C: Oh, so they can get all the way over there without an escort just fine…

C: Alright, I’m here, lets get this over with. I’ve got bandit crests to farm.

Random Cat: You know, these tanks weren’t really made for this kind of stuff. They are made for fighting ghosts.

C: For one, I’m totally not surprised to hear that. For two, that’s fine. There’s only three of you anyways. Not like it will be a massive waste of resources when you all inevitably blow u-WHAT THE CRAP WAS THAT!?

SC: Looks like mines commander.

C: MINES!? Since when was this jerkfart lizard laying dead bodies on the road that function as LAND MINES!?

RC: Uh… today?

C: Isn’t that convenient.

RC: Hold off the random bad guys that just came out of nowhere while we fix it.

C: Uh… the tank is missing its front half. Like it’s just not there anymore. I mean I’m an Asuran, and I’m pretty handy, but I’m pretty sure that’s not a quick fixer upper.

crickets

C: Fine.

KILL ALL THE THINGS

C: I have to say, for being dumber than stumps, you NPCs sure know how to recreate the front half of a tank in a jiffy. Think you could just make us another like. hundred of them?

RC: Sorry sir. Only learned the front half. These three will have to do.

C: Not surprised. You know the lizard is tied with you guys on the ‘surprise the commander’ game today. 1 to 1. Dead body landmines for him, magical front half of tank creation for you guys.

SC: Commander! Giants! Coming from that mountain! There’s so many!

C: sigh Ok, come on, let’s fight our way through like usual.

RC: No can do sir, the tanks can’t move and shoot at the same time.

C:….. Are you SERIOUS!?… Ok. Fine. 1 to 2, you guys have the lead. Can we just creep along then? Stop and shoot here and there or something?

SC: We need to take out the source of those giants.

C: Ya. I know. It’s called Zidude. The lizard. That’s kinda what we’re all doing here and why I put up with you idiots.

SC: No, that mountain, it’s the source!

C:……………………

RC: I’ve got some super mega death shells that will totally melt anything. I just need a target painted, and whatever it is will be toast. Just make sure you get out of there, because they are super mega death shells. lulz.

C: Ok, time out. First of all, what target? What source? That’s a flippin mountain. That’s it. A huge rock formation. Are you going to blow up the entire mountain or something?…. You know what, you just pulled the front half of a tank out of your rear end. Fine. You’re going to blow up the whole mountain. But then why the heck do you need a target signal? ITS A BLOODY MOUNTAIN! YOU CANT MISS!!!!!!!!

SC: My random friend and I will go with you to paint the signal commander.

C: Fine. Whatever. How are we signaling? And cat, give us like, two minutes to get out after the signal.

no response

C: Uh… cat? Yo. You put in ear buds or something?

SC: We’ve got the signal ready commander, just come up the mountain with us.

CLIMB A MOUNTAIN
******************
C: Yup. Just a mountain. There’s literally nothing of note up here.

SC: Look! The giant chieftain! We have to kill him!

C: Wut? He looks just like every other giant. Just chilling up here instead of joining his buddies in the tank smashing game. For all we know he’s Ted the peaceful giant. And where are you getting chieftan? Who cares? All these things follow Zidude. Zombies. Hello.

SC: We must kill him commander!

C: Look we’re going to blow up the whole freaking mountain, just set off the signal and let’s scram, if it will blow up a mountain, it will obviously freaking take out Ted.

NPC: Well we could ambush and kill it, or we could stop it’s supplies from reaching it.

C:… ok, so we’re going to kill it… that’s not even a choice. If kill it is an option, obviously we’re going to kill it.

NPC: Righto, so meet the team at the ambush site!

C: Sorry I’m always the last one here guys, it’s not on purpose I swear.

NPC: Sorry commander, give us a minute for some classic NPC bickering time.

C: Ok, so now that that is out of the way, how are we pulling off this ambush?

NPC: Sorry sir. I’ll brb. lulz.

Ok, so I know this whole quest has consisted of NPC’s calling the shots, and really really tactically imbecilic ones at that, and someone even wound up dead at the end because, you know, they were all awful decisions, but we want to know what we should do next Commander.

A: Planes
B: Trains
C: Automobiles

We just want you to know that if you choose Planes, we will probably try and fly it directly in to the dragons mouth. Because we think it’s a sound strategy. This is not a decision you will get to make. It’s just what we will do.

If you go with Trains, we will use them to improve our supply routes. Faster troop movements, supplies, it will be great! Just keep in mind the train will consist of a single car. And you will likely need to escort it. Everywhere.

Automobiles wont really be of any use in the field since there’s nothing remotely close to a road out here, but we will be able to have awesome car shows to inspire morale. And the troops should get a kick out of a Risen crunching derby! Ok, this is kind of ridiculous but we needed a third option for you because we felt giving you only 2 each time wouldn’t feel like enough choices. So here’s this one… Oh, and they will really be more like go-karts… and an NPC you just met two quests ago will get run over and die over dramatically in a tragic ‘defending your go-karts’ quest…

in a minute long cut scene.

where you were seconds away from destroying the go-kart before it started.

So what should we do commander? It’s your story after all. =D
