How to "turn off" LS?

A way to turn off a living story chapter after you finished and restarted it would be a nice addition.
There’s enough clutter on the screen with events, metas and other stuff.

Tried yesterday solo/group, talk to npcs before the final attack/after and had no success.

Got the achievement just now solo.

What I did differently was that I waited for the 10 minutes to expire before going to save the npcs in the cave. After that I talked to the 7 npc and got the achiev after saving the last one, I did not let them die.

Maybe this helps. Anyway this one is a really non-intuitive and badly explained achievement.

1) Use an EotM server grouping (colors) and timed battle system – more urgency, less worry about coverage

Hey OP! Let me ask you a few questions:
1) Have you ever looked at the score and said to yourself “These guys are night capping/ they outnumber us 3 to 1, yet I still want to fight for my homeworld and win” ?

2) Have you ever been double teamed so badly that you lost all your towers in EB and yet you kept banging your head against the keyboard for 3+ hours with nothing to go on except not wanting to give your enemies the satisfactions of taking your keep as well?

3) Have you ever scouted a keep solo for 1-2 hours + upgrades and siege out of your own pocket?

4) Have you ever woke up at 5 in the morning to help out the night crew ?

5) Have you ever been on a server-wide TS ?

6) Have you ever recognized the names of random people/ guilds and realize that you’ve been playing with them for a year and a half?

7) Have you realized that WvW is not GvG and most of the heavy lifting is done by pug commanders?

Guilds come and go, the core group of a server is formed out of commanders and players who fight only for their world, not pve rewards/achievements/quaggans.

8) Have you realized that you will never get a good “server-wide army” unless you have something to hold them together like a common server name to fight for (arbitrary colors don’t count) ?

I guess I could mention the huge amount of RP leadership Vizunah Square had. Their main alliance used stuff like posters and nationalist propaganda to whip their pve zerglings into a frenzy against other servers – it was meta as hell (too bad the match-up forums disappeared). Plus from an RP point of view servers are parallel worlds so it would make no sense to merge them outside the Edge of the Mists.

If Most of your answers are no then I recommend you get more involved in your server community instead of lamenting about standard stuff like coverage, numbers, mercenary guilds, etc.
I want my WvW to be personal and dramatic not bland and generic red vs blue vs green.

Best of luck!

I haven’t logged in a lot since the last season but at this point it looks like SFR is pretty stronk, so I’d say:
1. SFR
2. Viz
3. Jade
4. Riverside
5. Elona
6. Deso
7. Kodash
8. BB
9.Augury Rock

Also, what happened to Viz?
I heard they had some sort of internal problems. Is Troma still chief paladin?

Since they removed the match-up forums it’s hard to learn what’s happening on other servers.

Help WvW lag-fighting build

in Warrior

Posted by: Mint Rubber.6543

Mint Rubber.6543

With the WvW Season 1 started, the lag in top tier servers has reached unplayable levels.

As a War, the meta favors Hammer CC builds. But in an extreme lag situation all too common in the past few days, hitting with your 2-5 and burst skills is down to luck, leap skills get interrupted half-way and elites/healing skills never activate in a large fights.

I’d say healing signet and dolyak signet are a must. As for weapons, the only attacks that hit constantly are auto-attacks who are weak/single target/short range. I believe that a traited rifle build might be interesting – depending on how the piercing auto-attacks work against large zergs. Full kitten signet build might also be viable.

So my question is: what build/skills/weapons would be most useful in such lag-infested situations?

Maximum solo survivability PvE warrior build?

It’s what guardians have in very large amounts, and in many more ways than this.

Maximum solo survivability PvE warrior build?

in Warrior

Posted by: Mint Rubber.6543

Mint Rubber.6543

If you’re going for max survivability in solo pve then full cleric/banner regen is the way to go.

I tested 3 gear sets with axe/mace against different level champions in solo mode (a risen noble in Malachor’s Leap, The branded general in Iron Marches, Corrupted Kodan in Snowden Drifts).
-First set was full exo soldier’s with ascended back, rings and amulet. I managed to survive for quite a while but in the end the champ wore me down before getting him to 50%.
-Second set was full berserker with ascended back and rings. Burst dmg means nothing when you’re soloing a champ who attacks a bit faster than a turtle (most champs). Dodges go a long way but 2-3 hits and you’re dead.
-Third set: full cleric (no ascended), banner of tactics regen, healing signet, full adren. Alt+tab and go eat a sandwich. Return from time to time to reset the banner and you’re golden.

Now I’m not touting this as the discovery of the century but my tests yielded the results shown. In terms of pure survivability a max regen warrior with tactics banner and runes of the grove (some protection) can simply shrug off a lot of damage (either from champs or from packs of mobs).
Solo pve is the way of attrition if you want to complete group events by yourself.

You cant get 500
Ascendant gear heals for less ( less heal stats) unless a very recent patch changed this
otherwise right on

True, it was more than 400 not 500.
As for ascended gear there are more combinations available now:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_ascended_equipment#Rings

Stacking healing power is fun for the first time but after a while it becomes obvious that you’re hurting your dps way too much for those extra few hp in the long run. This is a warrior not a wet nurse, especially in WvW.

As I said previously banner regen is more useful in pve imo. In WvW you need lots of things to be perfect (banner spacing, nobody under the effects of more than one banner, people to carry banners, etc.). The healing’s still good tough, but this was never the problem.

Now for my 2 copper on the best healing in WvW:
The difference between mindless zergs and organised groups is the use of combos.
The best way to heal in in WvW is to use water field combos.
Rangers and eles should throw the water fields and the rest should have blast finishers ready (banner skill 5 works wonders here – everybody can use it). With enough fields and finishers you can heal an obscene amount of hp, well over anything single skills can muster.

Mint Rubber.6543

Let’s be completely honest here.

A warrior with 4 banners can put regen on 20 people with a range of more then 3600 if placed perfectly. No other class or skill can do the same.

I’m not talking about efficiency here or whether it’s better than other healing combos. I’m simply stating that if you want to see the highest amount of green numbers this is the way to go.

I tried banner heals in WvW but with one banner it’s not much and with more you need people to carry them (gl with that). In pve it’s a good tactic since no other class can stack that much regen (up to 40+ seconds if ppl stay in range), in fact in most of my fractal runs i use the banner of discipline with traited warhorn.

I remember going full kitten healing power at one point. Complete cleric gear, healing food and sigil of healing. The regen ticked for more then 500/sec and with the new ascended gear it can go even higher.

We can debate the merits of regen vs burst healing till the end of time so please don’t dis on banners – they’re good at what they do.

I'm disappointed with the dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mint Rubber.6543

Mint Rubber.6543

I mostly agree with the daily hate. But it’s not because of the dailies themselves.
It’s because of those kitten laurels.

Before “laurelgate” I could do my daily or don’t if I didn’t feel like it. In fact I could simply not log in one day if I had more important stuff to do. Now this is pretty much a big no-no if you want those ascended trinkets. “Dont feel like loging in to do your daily today? Though luck son! You’re one more day away from the shiny.”
Now before anyone uses the old “you don’t have to get it” argument: Anet is dangling new shinies in front of me and saying “Hey all the cool kids want them!” and I’m supposed to ignore them right? I’m supposed to be a unique butterfly who ignores the gear progression that is CLEARLY in the game (for good or for worse).

Here’s what I suggest:

1) Give a player a laurel when he logs in the game for the first time in the day. The timegate is still on but this will remove all of the daily laurel BS in my opinion. The daily is already extremely easy to do, it’s just the fact that it’s mandatory that really rustles my jimmies. I’ll reiterate: sometimes I don’t feel like going out of my way and loggin in/ doing the daily but if I don’t it will hurt my vertical progression. This leads me to:

2) Allow me to redo a missed daily. The time gate is still on but it no longer punishes me for not logging in religiously/ always doing the daily no matter what. This will also go a long way in alleviating the “laurelgate” problem.

I don’t mind working to achieve a long term goal. Unfortunately dailies aren’t real work, they feel more like speed bumps on an empty road. Nobody likes speed bumps.

For the people who have a hard time doing dailies:

- daily kill variety/ healer: go to Thaumanova Reactor in Metrica Province NW corner. Plenty of different mobs and a lot of dead researches.
- daily events/ veteran kills: go to WvW, find where the “zerg” is (following the commander icon helps or just ask in chat if you don’t know what do to). You can complete up to 3 events in 30 sec by just taking a supply camp. As for veterans all the npc guards are veterans so there’s no shortage there. If you like to go solo ganking WvW might not be a great way for events unless you like sniping caravans.
-daily dodger/ enemy invaders killed: again WvW – follow the zerg in an engagement and fire your AoEs -> look for red circles -> dodge -> instant completion of both.
- daily gatherer: I still don’t have a best way of doing this. I generally mine what i see when I move around a map (having mithril tools helps).
- daily aquatic slayer: go to a starter area and look for bodies of water in the zone with the lowest level. You should be able to oneshot everything event at lower levels. The lake in southern Wayfarer Foothills has lv 1 mobs inside.

These are generally the things do to finish my daily quickly and be done with it. I know it’s biased for WvW but i believe it’s the quickest way to do some of the achievements.

If they don’t they must realize that they’ll have a lot of angry people out there.
You can’t just advertise your game as “play how you want” when the new shiny stuff is behind some sort of gated content.

Why is the tone and style of GW2 so "goofy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mint Rubber.6543

Mint Rubber.6543

Obvious spoilers:

Hey! Remember that mission where you have to destroy a risen ship and the vigil(?) demolition expert dies?
Afterwards you have to track down his wife and explain it to her. She doesn’t take it well, blames you for his death and you char states that he’ll have to live with it forever.
Those sure were goofy old times.

In my opinion, the game took a turn for the dark when I got to the Straits of Devastation. Maybe it’s because of the Risen. Before that point you fight mostly risen from the mainland, washed up on the beaches, but in Orr you get to meet the original undead and they’re much more creepy.

I don’t know why. Unlike most of the other undead factions I found in many other games the Risen really got under my skin for some reason. Perhaps it was those farmers – raking the dead earth forever in a mockery of what they did in life.
There’s a pact researcher in Malachor’s Leap who’s looking for clues about her orrian ancestors. She tells you an interesting tidbit- she believes that the risen here are peaceful, they just keep doing whatever they were doing when the places was plunged into the ocean by Zaithan. It’s only when they meet a living person that they go berserk. She made it sound like the Pact are the vicious intruders. Interesting stuff imho and certainly not goofy.

Then there’s the event in Cursed Shore (south of that farming tunnel) where a sylvari tells you that he can feel that the trees around him are also undead and that they WANT to kill him and everyone who’s alive. I gotta admit that was pretty creepy.

I think that the game provides both goofy content and more serious stuff. I hope they keep things balanced, it’s the best way.

Time Gates make me want to play less....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mint Rubber.6543

Mint Rubber.6543

On some level I can understand Anet’s reasoning behind these heinous “time gates”.
They want to give the hardcore raiding robots a reason to stay without turning this into a true grind fest, loot treadmill, sad faced MMO.

My real problem is that they’re placing these shiny ascended baubles right outside my reach. Had this been another MMO clone I would just resign myself thinking that I’ll never get them by myself without some serious group effort or grind. Anet looked at the problem, removed the effort part and replaced it with time.

It’s all linear progression now. It doesn’t matter who you are or how you play. You simply log in and do the very easy daily tasks and you’re one step closer to the goal set by Anet. You can’t throw your money or your own personal time (grind) at it to move it faster.

Looking at the previous threads around here I believe that a truly enlightened solution would be to allow both ways so that players can play how they want, as advertised.
I would gladly brave the RNG or fractal relics/dungeon tokens/etc. so I can finally stop thinking about ascended gear and enjoy the game again.

Of course the truly enlightened thing would have been to never include these items, but once they’re in nobody should be surprised if the majority wants a piece.
