How are Turret Eng OP?

in PvP

Posted by: Mister Stygian.2135

Mister Stygian.2135

People mostly complain about them here from unorganized play where a lot of players don’t recognize builds, don’t know counters, and don’t have an alt to switch and willing to play to that is set up to counter other classes at the start of round. I don’t think they are op at all, but they are good at dealing with the people running current celestial meta builds. Old school power and condy can handle them pretty easily. I have 2 v 1 and 3 v 1 turret engys on my shatter mesmer against a trashy team that runs 5 of them in US prime time. The one thing they will do is get the decap, which can maybe swing the round in their favor, but you should be able to kill them if you leave the point and know what you are doing.

I melee in pugs, but if the guardian in party isn’t enabling the party to do this safely with proper aegis use, I switch to Gaurdian so team can melee. I don’t mess with captain ashm after 50% though unless I am warrior with high vitality.

It honestly doesn’t matter if you are in pug or not, if group does front and follow, you can melee. Person with aggro back straife max melee everyone else follow max melee. Range is very situational and almost never ideal. Even for a boss like fire shaman, one person needs to melee at least to make the fight easier for group.

PS there are plenty of times people have gotten me killed on arch diviner from range spam during reflect, sometimes it is your fault.

I had just gotten into pvp a few weeks before the queus got combined, and I complained about the merge quite a bit in posts at the time. Along with having to stay in HotM while queuing, and class dailies, I think solo vs premades turned away a large portion of the population-the median group between the diehards and casuals, those who were more likely to solo then look for a team and still play several matches a day. They probably have metrics saying it has increased pvp participation because a large number of very casual players probably will hotjoin for the easy dailies, but the pvp experience got ruined imo. When you queue up for four or five matches solo and you run into the same premades two or three times or see the same four or five names switching between teams in every match, I think you can tell not many people are playing.

Anyway, I’m not done, but I am discouraged u current system.

I’ve seen this on forest at mid and legacy on north point, people build one turret jump on it and build another. Personally, I play mesmer fairly often and unless you are running condy troll fest builds and therefore deserve to get trolled back, turret engys are boring to deal with. Any power build and air/fire GS build will kill turrets regardless of placement before they can fire a second time. If you a see a ranger and engy in party, spec mirror or feedback.

Mister Stygian.2135

As a player that has been here since head start, the trading post was down 90% of the time in the first couple weeks, at least, it seemed that way. My first character was a mesmer and I picked weapon smithing and tailor, the two people complain most about cost. I leveled them to 400 with no TP or guides, only materials I gathered myself as I leveled and got more xp in the process. Iused that same approach to my first legendary too, nothing bought on TP except half my lodestones. I know the NPE gated some things like gathering and drops have been changed since then, but I think this isn’t an issue of possibility but of wanting something instantly. Rushing your first character to 80 and then starting cuts you off from the resources you need because of loot scaling. Taking your time, takes care of the issue for you.

Maybe I stuck around because I didn’t rush through and use guides for every little thing, and maybe that is hard to stomach for a new player seeing people running around with fancy skins, but looking past it instead of stressing to hurry to a goal might make you enjoy the game more.

I’ve won a couple and gotten close in some more, the other team has to help you though by fighting off point. Temple and kylo, and once on foefire which was mostly because of a lord kill, seem like best maps for it, you can rotate really fast on those two maps, which helps you if they are not focusing well on caps and your team is. If they are diligent, they become two of the worse maps for same reason.

I would really like to see that empty spot get filled mid round or delayed start, it wouldn’t bother me as a solo queuer if I get an instant pop to join for 500 track points in a fast loss or make a difference at the start of a 4 vs 5, just have a different message saying join match in progress.

Seriously, you can’t really care how you look if you are wearing an outfit or a full set of armor, stop catering to these people please. The only justification for an outfit is leveling, but as that is a 2-3 day process in gw2, skins should be released as single piece ensembles. Unimesh looks are incredibly lame, and even more so when you do a good job with some pieces and bind it to absurd looking others.

I jump into hot joins to finish classes I don’t play like thief, guardian. The environment there is horrible with people exploring spectator to get on winning teams. Today, I was lucky enough to stumble into a public lounge(023)or some such and find a whole new cancer. I joined a 3 v 2 down 100 -0 on foe fire, capped home and then killed a guy on mid while my teammate stood near home off point. I go back and kill two baddies when it contests and my teammate yells at me “red is supposed to win, stop killing people”. Honestly, get rid of the daily classes so people like me don’t feel compelled to play classes they are weak on and people like them will go back to champ farming and eotm.

For Mai, I switch to axe/warhorn and run 6 4 0 4 0 for quick breathing. Second set is mace/sword for blocks and defiance removal. She is safe to melee the entire fight with that trait line in full zerker if you have those two weapon sets. She either aggros you and you backpedal at max melee or you chase melee whoever she is on. I would never run either of your posted builds.

Even if you are pugging,, don’t imitate the actions that make these runs bad. Everyone camping ranged is what prolongs the fight and gets people killed because you can’t debuff her in a timely fashion.

Mister Stygian.2135

Personally, I don’t like playing my ranger past fotm 40 because of all the one shot kills from enemies, you get planted in your third autoattack with sword and it gets me killed way too often.

If you’re going to play ranger though, surprise people pleasantly, favor your sword/axe melee set over your longbow, keep your pet on a proper leash and keep frostspirit up with spotter. People won’t kick you if you play well in my experience, and you can actually speed up groups if you do these things because of your team damage boosts and vulnerability stacking.

If you are camping longbow away from stacks, you are going to kitten everyone off because you are preventing trash from cornering in a timely fashion. If you have your longbow out in stacks, everyone is going to know you are doing reduced damage. Once barrage is used, you need to swap to sword. If spotter doesn’t show up on peoples bars during the first fight, you are going to annoy your team. If you are running two signets, you might get kicked on join. Being bad at ranger just stands out and being stubborn about how you play if it is heavily ranged will annoy a lot of players.

Turret engy just feels underwhelming if I have a GS with air/fire on it with shatter spec. It is the easiest time I have with them and I’ve stomped them out of all the forest points. East can be slightly tricky, the sloped ground leading up by the water seems to be the best approach to move in and out of LS with elevation changes to get off a beserker and spacial surges that will basically one shot the rocket and rifle turrets.

IMO, every change that was made with last update except map voting, has made the experience worse for casual and new pvp players.

I find your distrust in GS guardians suspicious since it is supposed to be your second set in all fotm builds. Running hammer PS allows your party to melee any part safely, run GS during trash. If your are dps, it is GS and s/f or sometimes scepter focus for a few bosses.

It just goes to show a lot of mistrust and classism comes from lack of experience with the class. The things that arouse my suspicion are more behavioral than weapon related, refusal to stack, needless CCs on clean champs, players not performing core roles for fotm, no aegis, no blinds, no might, no reflects

They can move away, but their turrets that make them anything of a threat will die. They are sitting ducks, not threats. Range shatter is going to obliterate them in seconds even if you only auto attack with spacial surge. There a few control points where approach can be a problem, but you can still pop in and out of Los to hit them and get a beserker off.

there is actually already a mesmer hammer bundle in the game that is really fun to play. It is in the storyline of sylvari if you pick “act with wisdom” and choose not to help caithe around story 20. Would have loved to seen a version of this that was less op. I’m thinking for this to be billed as an expansion, the specialization will change main hand skills too. Not having actual weapons is okay if we have new skills on the old ones.

I still solo queue mostly in new system. I’ve had stretches where I’ll see the same four or five people on my team or opposing team. The player pool must be small for that to be happening as I’m probably an average player and not hard to find equivalent opponents.

Matches are hit and miss at my level, sometimes I’ll get a really long or really short wait for a and it always ends up 5 pugs matched against a high level premade that will roll us. Matches are faster but not as enjoyable with more chances to end up in a gunfight with only a dagger if you solo queue. That along with having to sit in heart of mist instead of doing something while I wait like gathering or map completion has me playing less.

Besides the play experience, the daily class win at reset is driving me nuts. I play just those classes on two matches and sign off, I can’t resist the pvp chests but it is not fun half the time for me if it is engy(shows up every day) ele or thief. I don’t think anyone likes seeing two classes heavily saturating the player pool around reset. Even worse, I’m ending up on teams with people that have never played their class before(last night a thief that got 5 points in an entire match).

The new system for matchmaking along with the daily changes has really hurt pvp imo.

I’ve stopped thinking of gw2 as a game that will have new content for years to come like gw1 or other mmos. I don’t think think they are trying to keep us around. That is why the last year has been concentrated on new markets like China and player retention of starters. It is easier for them to spread existing content than to produce the amount that would satisfy the veteran player base. If you did stick around, it is most likely because you are in it for skins or community over content; just the kind of person they are hoping for to keep buying gems. I don’t think there will ever be a substantial content release and all we will ever see is a trickle of story instances to support gem shop.

I’ve made four alts with the new change and its hit and miss. Some useful traits can be acquired simply by running to a chest near a waypoint and not having to clear mobs or open it while others would take two hours clearing a map you have done three times before, these I buy. I don’t think they should be free, it is reminiscent of skill acquisition in ge1, but many are tied to things they shouldn’t be.

In an overhaul, I think every one tied to 100% map completion or personal story should be changed. Bugged events should be fixed or have their traits removed. Besides being able to buy the skills outright, I think you should be able to pick one trait when you get the unlock as you level. So, you would 14 free that you could use for a specific build you are going for or to clear ones that are tied to content you don’t like to do,

I keep seeing people bringing up maxing legendaries, collections and minis as content to keep you occupied but that is all one thing, grinding gold, and you only have a couple efficient ways to do it. It also doesn’t change what you do when you log in. Having original content added that helps you keep getting those skins is what a lot of us want, but that isn’t something that is really being offered in a lasting or immersive fashion. Mistakes like the chest farm in SW or new items that let you grind to gold like maize farm aren’t exactly entertaining . If the end game is expensive items and skins and that is what is supposed to keep you logging in, it is just grind until new ways are added to achieve those things.

Skins aren’t what I want anymore even. I want to zone into a new map that has the same attention to detail as any of the original zones instead of tiny event driven area. I want to create a new character tha isn’t a class I already have and I want to use a new skill on the 8 classes I do have. The game isn’t just missing hardcore content but it is missing an infusion of casual content too.

Why does GW2 make my computer run so loud?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Mister Stygian.2135

Mister Stygian.2135

GW2 is CPU usage intensive. Your laptop uses fans to move air over a copper heat sink to cool it and the more you use your CPU, the hotter it gets and the louder the fan gets. I’m not sure about the other games you mentioned, they might be more reliant on your graphics card then CPU.

There isn’t anything you can do about it unless you can find a quieter fan that could replace the one you have. The CPU reliance over GPU makes the game available to more players but it is frustrating for people that have expensive components that barely boost performance.

I am an officer in Ethereal Gaurdians, and we have met the introduction of the mega server and world event changes with reserved trepidation until tonight. Our biggest worries, though we have felt the loss of community all week at reset without the ability to participate in world events as a group, was realized tonight with the difficulty we had running guild missions at reset. Hence the posts here after we finished and saw the results of the new system.

We don’t force our members to do anything, we have members and officers that keep current in all aspects of the game and we keep our guild informed and help them thrive by having an environment to share with guild members, grow their in game wealth, achieve their goals and enjoy their experience in gw2. The mega server is essentially removing our ability to have an active community outside of guild chat because it isn’t prioritizing for guild selection as it is. While this might be great for the solitary and casual players running around, it is causing huge problems for a large player base, not just EG, that was already active and supporting the game. We have waited to see how this developed, and now it is time to speak.

From the week we have seen, you are trading the community of the game for an illusion of community.
