Oh yeah totally, the mantras are just meh, they pretty much require you to hold their hand but the books are so awesome.
Definetly expecting them to make the Mantras usefull along the way. Tons of things are bound to change, for better or worse.

The general feel though of where they want togo with the class seems right, proper support wich is i think, what most people are looking for in a Guardian.

And the axe seems just there so we can have a proper condi build i guess

So i’ve played around with Firebrand and well all i have to say is “Woohoo!!!”.

The new spec is perfect and to be honest something i’ve always wanted or rather expected the Guardian to be. More like a paladin then some kind of jack of all trades.

It fits, it works and it’s a whole lot of fun.

Thanks, Arenanet!

Nade/Bomb is counter intuitive for "Engineer"

Everytime i log into my Engi i love how she has all the cool tools and tricks available but the overly viable nade/bomb kit spam is such a downer, its the most effective way to play BY FAR but also the most boring and counter intuitive thing about Engineers… You feel like playing Piano ABC rather then going trough cool rotations and doing complex engineering things! (Especially being an electrical engineer in Real Life profession, this sucks termendously)
So after a few events i just log her out again, being dissapointed and somewhat frustrated with all the wasted potential…

There is so much to this class but whatever you have slotted is mostly overshadowed by the effectiveness of the two lamest weapons in the game, just spamming whatever is off CD..

Sure theres some options out there for PvE but none really cut it as well as spamming those infernal nades.

How does everyone else feel about the nade/bomb kit? And what would you suggest as possible alternative (Fractal/Raids) builds?

Eh no? No one has ever tried to convince me to stop playing Rev at all.. its my own decision after 2 weeks of playing and noticing more and more things i can’t enjoy. The 3 people PMing were not salty what so ever and actually had great discussions with them.

Well i’ve decided to shelf my Revenant, for now at least. I can really enjoy playing the underdog classes but Rev is simply poorly designed.

3 people actually contacted me because of this post to express and explain their problems with the class..

Hopefully ArenaNet comes around with some big changes to the Revenant in due time.

Kinda miffed i spent so much time and gems on him now tho… meh

Revs was nerfed to oblivion. Also added some bugs after those nerfs that are not being addressed. That and it being a melee effective class makes it a very hard class to master.

“staves are brittle fragile canes not made for smashing heads.” – not the Dominator Staff and Lightward’s Battlestaff. Plus staff 5 used to be good and does multiple whacks if aimed properly but the damage was nerfed to oblivion.

As for tips, hmm… If you put 4 different weapon swap sigils on your weapons and you change legend then swap weapons immediately, ALL 4 sigils procs. So effectively having 4 sigils work every 10 seconds and the same time if traited right removes condi and stunbreaks and copies remaining conditions to enemies.

So i keep hearing, guess im lucky enough to have started playing Rev after the nerfs i dont know what they used to be like.
I love the melee idea, just not so much that everything costs energy and thus dramatically reducing your effective options.

Good call on the stave skins! Sadly they are either from a high end raid or an RNG kittenstorm wich i rather not dip into

Going to try the swap sigils, hope it’ll be as effective as it sounds cool.

Rev is my favorite class in the game, thematically speaking, but it has a pretty major conceptual problem that needs to be dealt with. The tldr version is that they have an overly-restricting design, and that too much of their usefulness comes from the elite Glint stance.

Originally, they did not have weapon swap, but this was found to limit them too much as the ability to change utilities in combat didn’t do a great job of replacing the versatility of weapon swap, kits, and attunements, so it was added late in development.

This, however, really only served to further highlight the holes in their design. Not only does each utility set perform a specific function with little synergy between them, but each one of them is also tied only to a single weapon set. This means that both their weapon swapping and utility swapping are much less useful than you would expect them to be. The latter (only) sees a dramatic improvement in usefulness only upon the attainment of the elite Glint stance, which means Revs feel particularly unpolished and incomplete while leveling 1-80.

This issue is 90% of why Revenants feel clunky in play, especially during leveling pre-80. They need 1-2 more base weapon choices to help alleviate this, such as a condi or hybrid ranged weapon and a hybrid melee weapon. OR they need to have weapon swap removed in favor of something more creative to compensate. Lastly, they need at least somewhat better synergy between their different stances – focusing mostly on Jalis since it’s the main pre-Glint support line and it really should be more competitive with the other stances.

Exactly what i’m expiriencing, yes. Thanks for the brief explaination.

Imo Glint stance should be removed and implemented in a similair fashion as the Guardian Virtues, this would kinda make it lose its uniqueness but at least it’ll be effective.
And since 95% of the players are always running Glint anyway they might aswell make it more Passive to open more options for the other stances.

I would say Greatswords would be a good option for Revenant, it fits the role and would add some more balanced Abilities. Just having a stance and no weapon swap would be great but the stances absolutely need to be better to make up for that..

And yes Jali does seem the least effective so far but still quite good with the stability field and group Ultimate, it just feels like it lacks that extra ability that makes it worth using over other stances.

Rev is a great support class. We give other people boons while taking the conditions off them, so they can fight better. Our damage is decent, and we can give good chase with Axe offhand and even have a reveal for those pesky thieves. When timed right, Infuse Light can keep you in the fight longer than many classes. But for a 1v1, you’ll have to work much harder than the other heavy armor classes do.

You are describing Guardian basically, they can do the same with less effort and more utility..? I mean, yeh.. whats the point of Revenant in this case? :P

So i’ve returned to this wonderfull game after a 3+ year break, bought HoT, 4000 gems, bought a new class slot and was totally ready to kick it on my Revenant.

Sadly after playing for about a week and a half i cant help but feel weak and kinda bummed out. There doesnt seem to be much depth to the class at all, even though it has the different stances it feels like the least dynamic class so far.
Now i totally understand why i barely see Revenants anywhere, surely this was different when the expansion first launched but right now you’d be hard pressed to spot one… wich is unheard of for a new class in an MMO like this.

-Auto attacking is dull but way to often is the only option as everything costs energy wich you so desperately need for all the other skills.
-Condition Build seems to be promoted but not very good..?
-Hammer is ranged, Staff is Melee… I’m sure i missed something in the lore but to me this is so absurdly unlogical that i have trouble enjoying playing with either. This class needs a Greatsword, a “normal” Hammer or at least something cool to whack with, staves are brittle fragile canes not made for smashing heads.
-Generally i tend to feel like i’m missing something cool and epic that other classes have.

Dunno, Revenant seems like something i really should enjoy but simply don’t, it’s weird.

I’m considering just playing Guard again but since my new GF already mains guard (along with about half my server) i kinda want to make this work.

Any tips or ideas would be most welcome

Magic Find is such a bad stat for the game overall, it causes so much paranoia with people thinking others are running MF instead of “real stats”.
I actually have had quite a few parties ending prematurely in namecalling and whatnot people not like having a MF leecher in their dungeons.

The stat itself isn’t even fun or interesting, it gives you slightly more chance to loot better items… how is that fun?

Magic Find needs to work outside dungeons only or needs togo completely, it’s ruining the game for many.

The biggest problem is that engineers actually have too many kits. Because of this our traits fail to work effectively.

FT should be able to be traited to do extra burn damage (+50% burn damage, not duration).

The same for Elixir Gun, though EG needs to be able to cripple enemies who are in an acid pool.

Engineers need gimmick traits to match their gimmick kits. Master or GM traits that actually add characteristics to their kits. Generic traits like bonus crit/bonus damage just don’t do it for Engineers.

It’s not the volume of kits, it’s the lack of versatile traits.

Kit specific traits need to be condensed abit and some traits reworked to affect more then just one specific kit/ability.

And yeh the generic traits are just really bad sadly.

Did Arenanet talk about Engineers at all?

Currently i have 3 full geared chars, a Thief, Elementalist and a Guardian. Now i was really hoping to level and gear a engineer after that but so far i’m hearing nothing but bad news from players. Obviously i started to look around for Arena net responses, but they don’t seem too concerned. I’m just completely failing to find a -MUCH NEEDED- post from a Arenanet to explain their thought, direction and future for the class.

Even before the infamous nade nerf 3 friends of mine who used to main Engineer (but all left the game now) already said engineer needed work. They don’t really succeed at anything and that the tools are often great and sometimes really a game-changer, the overall package is kinda lacking.

The engineer population seems really low aswell, i mean i’m Dungeon Master but still pugging alot, i can count the number of times i’ve seen a pug engineer in my party on one hand. And tPvP i’ve seen a couple boring Bunker ones but There simply don’t seem to be much around, at all. Does this not flare up discussion somewhere?

Lastly i joined a pug to fractals a couple of nights ago and the leader kicked the self-invited engineer claiming the class is “useless”, ofcourse hes was wrong but is this really where it’s heading?

Maybe in 2013 when the developers we once respected so much will sober up and start to collect (and actually work with) some feedback about the classes. Looking back, i sadly doubt it very much.

Well i have 2-3 sec skill delay since i installed Win8, everything else runs like a dream apart from clunky’old GW2.
All drivers are up to date and i double checked all possible solutions.. — nothing worked --

The only possibility is that there’s something very wrong with the game itself.

All of this wouldn’t be half as frustrating if someone gave us an official word on this rather then pretending it’s not a big issue.

This leads us to believe they simply don’t know whats going on (or are unable to fix it at all)

I really want to play your game, really. But...

GW2 is the only PC game that makes me feel very uncofortable and somewhat claustrofobic even when playing. The FOV is simply way too low and and the camera is to resctricted with the zoom levels.

It’s basically putting a massive blindfold on regarding most of the great scenery in the game, simply because it feels like you are looking trough a hole in a box, and mostly at the floor.

Why can’t we go first person or zoom out to a point where you can actually enjoy the scenery? This would also greatly help immersion.

Is it me or does dungeons feel wrong?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Mook.7312

The idea behind the dungeons and removal of tank/healer/dps setups is awesome, the dungeons themself and particulairly the bosses are simply very poorly designed.

99% of the bosses are the same from the pull to finish, no different phases or exciting things, just the same abilities over and over (and over!) again. This leads to a very unfullfilling aftertaste.

With the lack of any real -fun- dps/optimization rotations or basically anything that really puts any depth into the gameplay might explain your feeling.

As GW2 is all about cosmetics i went all out and spent a good hour or two browsing various sites and trying to find a fitting set beside the standard badge ones (wich aren’t too fantastic imo)

I currently have the CoE Shoulders and SE kilt but i seem to be completely unable to find gloves, chest and boots that fit my style at all.

Any input would be great, thanks!

I haven’t really enjoyed the story at all after claw island on any char, it all goes super serious mode and all you fight from there on is the same undeads.
Trahearne adds so much to that giant buzzkill that the entire Orr story just ends up feeling like a chore.

Such a shame though, i absolutely loved the story up until that point. Funny conversations, interesting characters and a wide diveristy in areas/mobs.
Easely the best expirience i’ve had in an MMO for ages, but the whole Trahearne-Orr thing just makes you forget about all that awesomeness and tries to slowly kill your braincells with infinite amounts of boredom.
