Scepter is in a weird spot. It needs a whole make over. It is like they built half of its skillls for condi then decided that they wanted to do some damage as well. For awhile you could get away with the Burst build except most burst builds were negated by the thief class, so was no point in taking it in pvp it was a liability. You had to blow everything on one target and hope they didn’t random dodge or get some passive immunity. It also took all your cooldowns where as say a thief good do the same thing 4 times before you could do yours again. Not really sure what anet is thinking with this class. But like many said, Everything has been suggested to anet to fix this and give us more then one build and all we got was 1 vulnerability added and it supposedly fixed everything for us. I still haven’t seen it, but who knows may be the Ele dev is just better then all of us.

Please explain how to get out of melee range of a Rev, when they have teleports on almost no cooldowns. He could basically spend all his energy on the teleports and auto you down. Game is broken and bad.

I really did enjoy this game and the ele class. I mostly pvp and have 5500(maybe 1500 staff maurader) games on my main ele. I have three actually setup, when I cared enough to change specs and try to counter build the other team. But now? We have nothing, but one useful build. It saddens me. I picked ele because I was looking for that powerhouse mage backliner kind of thing. Where you needed positioning and kiting to survive. But as you all know our burst builds always took last place over the others. Every class basically has insta teleports or leaps that are on lower cooldowns than our own making kiting worthless. Along with easily spam-able auto attacks which hit harder than most of what we cast that take 1 to 4seconds to get off and are mostly locked in place.
I’ve tried my best to make marauder staff tempest to work and at times its gimmicky and does pull off. But you are basically just spamming air overload. I just wish we had a mage class that could actually be a mage. If we try anything other than bunker we are food for any other class. I been fighting thieves who are just spamming vault and hitting me for 8k+ damage which is also an evade, which is pretty easy to use to dodge a 1 second cast time auto attack that misses if anything jumps or moves side to side or basically anything else we can cast.
I’ve had ranger arrows and engi pistol or basically any other class ranged autos that will basically follow you like homing missiles. Our auto attacks are just basically garbage on every weapon. How is this possible? They are basically spammed only for heals, or were before hots release. And on top of the auto attacks, My fireballs look like flaming pebbles now. Lets make a list of who has better ranged auto attacks….
Ranger – longbow, shortbow, staff? pets? (lol)
Engi – pistol(apply condis), rifle
Guardian- scepter, longbow? how is this possible?
Rev – Hammer? lol?
Mesmer – Greatsword? Scepter?
Warrior – Rifle
Thief – pistol, shortbow
Necro – axe, scepter? not really sure about necro ranged autos
Anyway not really sure where I wanted this to go. Just finally had it with hoping anet would balance something. Except every major balance patch was just basically an overhaul that never addressed balanced. Never addressing the actual issues on what was pushing certain builds out of the meta. Am I alone in this? Is it a L2p issue? Did anyone else actually want to play a mage class and not a buff/healing bot?

Make the side points where your team has to bring the orb to and is worth X amount of points
Make the middle point where you can capture orb for 100-150 points
No capture points.
Kills count towards points
Cannot use abilities while carrying orb, Orb has abilities linked too it. Give Orb various colors and spawn different ones after each capture, with different abilities (like conjure weapons)
Slowly lose hp carrying orb, or % healing reduction which increase per time held
All fighting all map, Sounds fun.

You see Jasher, you are a tiny dancer and you need to make the ele dance through it’s rotation. Sometimes you have to change your dance based on the class you are dancing with. Sometimes you miss step in your dance and the rotation is messed up, so you need to reset or try to get back in the “groove”. But overall ele DD is a sustain build so you won’t really kill quickly and just work on your might stacks and keep burning up.
There is really no other point in playing other builds, maybe DF, but its almost the same as DD. Staff and SF can work but other classes do what they can better and survive better. Best of luck my friend.

No there is not. D/D cele meta is too good at the moment. I run mostly DPS staff ele and enjoy it a lot. Problem is you are countered by almost anything ranged and anything that can insta teleport to you. Sure you can go bunker staff but you are about a good as a bunker guardian in this cele meta. Meaning you are wasted space in the group. Yes you can survive and provide wonderful support, but you will never kill anyone and sooner or later that cele group you are fighting is gonna have full stacks and out damage your support.

I use to be 250ish in team rank. I have over 5k games played. Why am I being paired with people I have never seen before and also vs premades? I usually love to solo q in the team ranked games, but now it is so frustrating. Please fix this.

Hi all, couple friends and I ran a 5 man ele team in tpvp. We ended up 5-2 for the day.
Our first match was a little bit disorganized but we pulled it together in the end( We weren’t using TS). We ran 2 bunker D/D and staff, 2 s/f burst and 1 staff burst. We are all rank 59+ and really enjoy the ele class. Please don’t be too kitten us

So this has probably been brought up before but……
Conjures need an activation effect in order for me to give up cantrips, I believe. So I thought we could make a list Anet to gamble over. The only one I use in pvp is Icebow with my zerker staff build. Don’t get me wrong, its awesome when it all lands. I just think, a little something else added to the activation, may warrant me to take 2 or 3 conjures. So here are my ideas on spell cast…
Earth Shield – Break Stun or Grant Stability (2sec?) or Gain Protection/ Aegis
Lightning hammer – Teleport to location or Aoe blind on ground target area
Icebow- Heal (1500?) on ground target or AoE water field on location or Frozen ground for chill
Lave Axe – Might Stacks(5-10?) or Lava font on location or Aoe damage/burning at location
What would you guys like to see?

So Thief is direct counter to Mesmer, Ele, Ranger, and any other Zerker or DPS builds?
What is the direct counter to the Thief? Another Thief? Why play anything else then….
Thief does need some changes, The damage is fine, I can live with it as long as there is some risk in doing it. People argue that they have low hp, blah blah blah… So does Ele and none spammable defense like the thief can do. If a zerker ele misses his burst thats another 20-40 seconds before the combo will align again to burst. Before that happens you are trying to survive long enough for it to come back and doing minimal damage with crappy auto attacks and very easy avoidable ground targeted attacks.
I think the initiative increase on PW and Lyssa rune nerf is a good start. Next they need to look at the teleports Cooldowns/Range and z-axis ability and probably remove the Stun or split PW skill.

Remove hotjoins, it does more harm then good. There is just no way to learn proper rotations. Then it is also high ranks just farming new players. If you used the MMR system for the UnrankedQ you could get new players fighting new players instead of zerg farming rank points. Custom Arenas will be where you make the money for the 1v1, 2v2, and TDM servers. Right now theres prob 50+ custom servers empty, I’m not sure why anyone would buy one at this time.

You can beat thieves as an ele, but you have to spec more bunker. Like Swish suggested it requires the ele to be aggressive and if the thief over commits he will lose. But like I said before, a good thief will never die, because he/she will run to another point and/or disengage to reset.
I have killed and been killed by many a thief as an ele. I actually enjoy it if i am on my D/F bunker vs D/X thief. S/x thief on the other hand, needs a nerf bad

IF you have nothing decent to contribute to the thread except to insult other forum posters because they want to nerf the class you play, then don’t post. thief will eventually get a nerf and when it does all of the thieves that do play this game will either adapt, reroll, or quit. contributing nothing constructive in threads designed to bring problems with the class as a whole to attention to the devs (though unlikely they will pay attention as it isn’t about elementalists) is just proving that you are infact what you have been called, a toxic element within this games community.
I’m sorry… He’s playing some sort of a squishy build on an already squishy class and then wonders why he’s being one shotted by another squishy/glass cannon build (more than likely)… And he insists that he shouldn’t be one shotted. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Point is that the matchup is horribly lopsided. It would be okay if the ele maybe had a 1/4 chance of winning vs thief but even if he spots him first and is surrounded by teammates he still dies 9/10 times.

It’s not his fault or problem that he went all squishy and got destoryed by a thief with low odds of coming out alive (because he was running a squishy build).
Instead it’s the thief’s fault for being OP (STEALTH!!!!!!!!!) and giving the low odds of survival to the ele.GG forums. (my last post in this thread.)
Except the thief presses 3? buttons to do his burst. Assuming you needed to get into stealth then steal, and back stab for 14k? While the ele has to press his whole keyboard plus 2 utility skills to “one shot” someone. and guess what…. if there is some random dodge between that time, the ele loses that one shot while also not being able to do it for 30ish seconds for cooldown recharge, while the thief can keep spamming back stab until it lands for somewhere between 6-14k damage.
I personally am fine with thief damage. I only ask for mobility nerf, they have too many teleports and also a PW nerf. It does way to much for 1 skill. It is so sad people still fight to prove the thief isn’t compeletly op compared to other zerker builds, knocking them out of the meta.

I dont like this “pvp doesnt make money arguement”. If this were true, then the top free pvp games wouldn’t get so much development and updates. Look at LoL and Dota, these games aren’t making money off pvp? They dish out tons of money for tournaments. Do they just print their own money then?
Anet just dropped the ball on this. Tons of people would pay for pvp if it were actually worked on like living story was. They need to removed the Hotjoin servers so people will actually use the Custom Arenas and then maybe more people would be in Solo or TeamQ. Which would maybe make thier MMR system worth something by having more then 3000 people play pvp.

This and this. Both sentances are correct. Good thieves don’t die because they constantly reset the fight. Port in, pistol whip/spam attacks, port out, port in, etc etc. They can port from behind a rock, or anywhere. It really is broken (sword 2)
This is why thief is op compared to other burst specs, besides maybe vs guadian burst. A staff ele cant kite or use ledge advantage when a thief can just teleport to them whenever they please. O you missed your backstab? keep spamming it. Missed pw? better hit 3 again. Need stability or aegis? Better use that elite for lyssa runes, its only on shorter cooldown then most Ele Defense utility skills. This is boring and unfun to play against. I’ve had a couple games over the last few days that didn’t have 1 thief and it was actually pretty fun games and close.

It is not the damage of the skill most people are complaining about. It is the ability to spam 3 all day long and get so much out of it. Good damage, Evade, and a stun/daze. This is also on top of the thief ability to teleport anywhere he pleases whenever he pleases. O and also the ability to reset fights whenever, aka stealth. No other burst class can do this.
Imagine a Elementalist D/D could chain burning speed 5 times in a row, but also got an evade for the duration and the skill immobilized the target when activated. So now the target cannot interrupt the ele and has to burn a condi clear and all your dodges to not take damage. And now the Ele can teleport 1200 units away and reset the fight and do it all over again, but now you have no more condi clears or dodges.
It’s just dumb and bad game design. I came to this game thinking they had a different approach to the Stealth war games, but sadly was mistaken.

You can play burst or bunker ele. There is no middle ground. which would be sustaining in the fight. Talking about spvp here. You will not do enough damage to pressure people away from you or the point because your skills take to long to cast. Burst staff ele can pressure a point but you cannot stand on it or if someone jumps on you, you are screwed. And you will not sustain enough damage in a 1vs1 as a burst because of slow cast time. No other class has this problem. You have to blow your CC to try and get your Staff damage to land. Any good players will move out of it if not. I’m not saying these skills are not good damage. But when any other class can just hit 1111111 or 222222 or 3333333 or faceroll their keyboard throughout the whole fight and out pressure you there is something wrong.
Anyway I love the Ele class, I don’t think we need anything buffed. It is other classes that need to be toned down. They can do to much with little to no effort, while we have to play in hardcore mode to even compete.

Ele is not running around like thief porting in and out of combat hitting for 3-12k damage. One random dodge or ageis will throw your whole combo off and now you have to keep pressure on with auto attacks that barely break 1k damage.
Or you could switch Attunements, and keep dishing out
hard hits with great utility… Lets not act like Elementalists don’t have cool downs on par with almost every other class in the game, AND have access to four weapon skill bars on the fly. I’m not saying Eles are amazing, but part of the problem I see with a lot of Eles in WvW is that they stick to one attunement and never switch. It is the equivalent of a Warrior who never switches weapons; it makes zero sense.Please explain these hard hitting abilities in other attunements that you have available after your burst rotation. All of it hurts.This isn’t even taking into consideration that you can activate Arcane skills while knocked down/stunned or without canceling your channels, and if traited, will be used just as often as your weapon skills. This means you’ll always have Arcane Blast available no matter what attunement you currently have.
Shockwave will not hit a moving target. Unreliable.
Erruption will not hit moving target. Unreliable
Lightning surge is decent, but 10sec cooldown. Can not sustain with it.
Gust unreliable unless on top of target.
Ice Spike will not hit a moving target. Unreliable
Arcane skills = 20-30sec cooldown, can not sustain
Fire skills- will not hit moving targets, Fireball is decent damage but if target jumps or side steps, you miss, now have 1 sec cast time again.
but like I said, after your burst rotation an ele is a sitting duck because you had to blow your CC’s in order to land your burst, if it lands.
I believe ele would be in a good spot if other classes were toned down, as they will buffed as the ele was nerfed every patch.

yes basically, dps staff ele has terrible sustain. You can stay and CC and heal and lay down lava fonts on down players once you blow everything as long as you know where the other teams burst is. Always re-position after a team fight, because they will prob come around to you or switch points. Be last to the capture point if at all possible. It is truely hard to play if you don’t have another burst or sustain class watching your back for peels.
Usually when I start a match I will tell my team to troll the thief or other counter class to me if I am not with a team.

Do not 1v1 as staff dps. Any Class that has a good ranged auto attack will eat you up. Try to disengage and head to the team fight, This is where you shine.

PW does to much for what it is worth. It is too spammable. Evades, Daze or stun, and good damage on top of the thief ability to teleport wherever he pleases whenever he wants. Imagine if Ele could burning speed everywhere and it dazed or stuned on hit or if the fire trail hit you and also evaded everything and had 1 second recast time. Would you use anything else?
Please tell me how do you expect someone to play a squishy mage class and kite their opponent, if most dps classes can insta teleport or leap to them. Thief has better mobility and teleports and z-axis ports on shorter cooldowns. Access to Lyssa Runes is also what makes the thief op vs other burst classes. They have shorter elites and can use this almost every engagement.
If you do manage to land some damage on a good thief, they will just reset the fight and now all your 40+ second cooldowns you used on your first engagement are down and the thief has everything back and ready to go full throttle again.
Split the skills and give their teleports longer cooldowns
Anyway sorry for the rant just tired of this meta. Nothing but PW thief, MM necros, Spirit Rangers, Healing Sig warriors( not just hambow), PU Mesmers, Decap Engi. It is boring and you have left it alone for too long. FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love ele play style. We were just over nerfed, while other classes got much needed love. Now they out perform us in every aspect of play.
Ele requires a team to be built for it to be in.
I’ve found D/F to be decent bunker vs current meta. Staff Bunker is the same.
Also Staff Zerker is decent vs Hambow heavy teams. but someone has to be willing to peel and stick to any thieves/mesmer on other team.
S/F hybrid is good dps/sustain/support
S/X Burst is good, play like a thief, hide until you can burst someone with low hp.
D/D kinda gave up on, but i’m sure old bunker build is good and can do good burst with a build for it, very risky though.
I personally think elementalist is in a fine place. It’s other classes that need to be toned down. Healing Sig warriors, MM necros, Decap engi, Spirit rangers, S/X thief, PU mesmer.
