If a meta event like Tarir or DS fails, it is usually not the fault of the commanders. Likewise, a smooth and successful run should NOT be credited fully to the commanders like what the OP is doing in this thread. Most likely you just had a map with people who knew what they were doing. If you want to thank, thank the map of people who worked together, not the commanders with a little too much self-importance to spare.
But people do it anyway, this should be taken out of the EULA. It’s ridiculous. I don’t share my game but for god’s sake between family members? Where are we, in North Korea?
Even family members can get into fights about who did what to a shared account and drag support into the argument. Or husband and wives can divorce or argue, one side locks the other out then support Is supposed to resolve the mess. Or cases of regret, where someone give a family member his account then later changes his mind and contacts support to get it back. All these cost support time and money, which is why they frown on even family members sharing or giving away accounts.
I guess that means yes, this is North Korea.
Wasn’t there something previously about ArenaNet not being able to add Cantha for some reason or another? I thought I read something about this a while back.
This was about the Canthan District in DR. Basically some Asian audience hated the idea of ArenaNet mixing in multiple Asian cultures to create a unique-but-Asian-feeling culture in Tyria.
Patriotism and all that. Stuff I don’t personally get.
Can you be more specific on which Asian audience it was, as well as provide the source of your information?
There’s enough of weebs running around befouling the game with their uninspiring Japanese names. If you want anime, go and play the myriad of anime games already in existent. There are lot of these small games for small minds out there.
Don’t you guys realize what’s going on? The OP is simply mirroring Anet in what we’re expected to do for this wintersday.
People that are not paying us money for gems must pay high price for stinginess!
———————————————————————————————————————————————————
Don’t let them get the winter’s presence easily!
I logged in just to tell you that laughing at others this way is also a pretty rude thing to do. You can laugh all you want behind the screen, but rubbing it in their faces like that makes you worst than the two guys who PMed you. I also hardly think that you’re actually angry about their accusations, this is more about the bragging in winning a 2v1 than sincerely wanting people to be nice to one another considering you’re yourself a hypocrite to begin with.
Can someone explain why food is needed for this?
Is anyone else wincing at the phrasing of “Katana Dagger” and “Katana Sword?”
It’s like saying sword-sword and sword-dagger. A dagger in that style is a tanto and the sword, depending on length is a Wakizashi or a Katana.
Belinda’s Greatsword on the other hand, is more resembling a “Zanbato” which is a fictional/fantasy sword that’s uber long. Translates to somewhere around “horse-slaying sword” or “horse-chopping sword.”
Zanbato swords are most commonly seen in fighting-style anime, highlighted most especially by Bleach.
Anywho, just wanted to know if anyone else winced when they read that.
Nerd
I think the term is misinformed weeb.

??? is not a fictional or fantasy sword.
I am okay with this particular design, as I’ve said earlier in this thread, other than its implementation as a Halloween costume and brushing aside all my problems with Cantha itself.
However, I find worrying that people are so quick to jump in shouting “it’s just a Halloween thing who cares” the moment people start discussing it, because it’s the same kind of defensiveness you see in people who find it fun to use blackface or wear feathered headdresses when told they’re being disrespectful, right before they shut down the conversation.
Fantasy and Cantha or not, the fact is inspiration is drawn from existing cultures. Please be open to discussion (or criticism, if it comes to that) on it, and be willing to accept that what seems ok to you as an outsider to those cultures can rub someone who knows and/or lives it wrong. People are allowed to say if something is wrong.
Note that this is not adressed to anyone in particular, but more a response to the tone of some of the posts I’m seeing in this thread. OP was wrong in saying the hat was a result of “not enough research”, as has been pointed out – but several people seem to see a general criticism of the costume and immediately jump on the “it’s just for fun/Halloween sheesh cool down” excuse, when it is not, in fact, a good excuse. If the issue had been that the hat was designed after a real life hat that had significant cultural meaning but was used here as a trivial matter and thus cheapened that culture for the sake of looking cool in a game, for example, would they have still used that excuse? Probably, and that’s what my issue is.
Thank you sir, you’re like the only person in this thread who got what I was trying to get across, even if you may not agree with some of my points. I meant no disrespect to anyone but people get so defensive at a drop of a feather sometimes.
is it wrong to wear a slightly torn hat? =,=
Nothing wrong with slightly torn hats, but taking the most stereotypical representation of these type of hats and putting it on a monk-like costume seemed a little off to me I guess. If the answer to that is that it’s fine simply because it’s a Halloween costume, then that’s fine too.
What I don’t understand is why can’t people look at it as something new to learn about, rather than “you’re complaining? Sheesh do I have to explain it’s a Halloween costume?”
It’s nice to see Canthan content making their way in the current client, but I have to say the design on the hat is so off it’s ridiculous. First thing that came to mind was not enough research. Linking pictures for comparison.

Can’t believe this needs explaning..
Thanks for explaining nonetheless, I appreciate your tactfulness. I’ll just assume it’s based on the design of the Vietnamese then, or a Halloween themed outfit.
I think it was meant to be closer to the hats commonly represented as being worn by farmers/peasants in China whilst working in rice paddy fields.
In fact a quick google calls it a “rice paddy hat” although that just sounds wrong. Wiki (yeah I know not massively reliable) suggests that in mainland China it’s called a d?ulì.
You are referring to these?

I never said it was badly designed, just overrated. And of course Japan is part of East Asia, but besides that, it doesn’t seem like anyone cares what else is in East Asia, if you get what I mean. So right, it’s really cool that you know the difference between an odachi and that “overrated Katana”. How about some input on the ring-pommel blade? Or some knowledge about non-Japanese Asian weaponry?
P.S I canceled the word “more” from the thread title by accident, since the previous title was too long. I’m not saying that “overrated Katana” isn’t East Asian in origin.
So we have been given the overrated katana loved by every weeaboo on this planet. How about giving us its lesser known sister sword as an alternative for those who want nice looking weapons but do not want to be associated with weeaboos?
Here’s a picture of an early development of the Chinese ring-pommel blade:

This single-edged straight blade was eventually presented to a young Japan as a gift of goodwill, which gave rise to the design of the katana. Also blades like this are carried on the waist, not strapped on the back:

Happy Lunar Festival fellas, yesterday was the Canthan New Year and the holiday will last till the 14th Feb, I think. 24 year old people, this year belongs specially to you, the year of the horse.
If Shiro is to make an appearance I would love to see him become the good guy for once. Was there any reason for him to remain bad after being defeated in the Realm of Torment? Maybe it’s time to repent and atone for his crimes?
Cantha would be cool in a 1920’s / steampunk style.

Interesting link: Into The Pixel 2013 Winners – ArenaNet Teases Something Big
http://www.awesome-robo.com/2013/06/into-pixel-2013-winners-arenanet-teases.html
Now in it’s tenth year, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) just announced this years lineup of winning pieces for their yearly Into The Pixel competition, which honors the best art from professional concept artists in the industry. Featuring a mix of production art and game concepts I was intrigued to find a winning piece among the entries for a completely unannounced title, the above piece from Daniel Dociu, the art director of Arenanet and Guild Wars 2. Titled ‘Crossroads,’ the piece is attached to an unannounced project, featuring an impossibly vertical futuristic city with a distinctly Asian flair.
I’ve been getting crashes a lot ever since the patch went live. A few times were using waypoints in crowded places (one costed me the invasion event completion when I tried to waypoint to Scarlet and it crashed), another time was opening the trading post in Lion’s Arch. The TP was replaced with a same sized window with large squares of bright green and blue (if I remember correctly) before it crashed.
Hope Anet will look into this.
Why would anyone even need to follow a commander in PvE? Aren’t the red circles on the map a big enough indication that there’s something going on there?
In Stormbluff Isle server, I was lucky enough for the zerg to take requests to help me get map completion. I only had a few points at that time though. So if they’re feeling kind enough, maybe your server could help you out.
Well that makes it pretty clear, thank you for the answers everyone.
If I don’t pick tornado, I’ll have no underwater elite! x_x
But back to the original question; is D-series golem a viable tank and replacement for the earth elemental?
Yes I realise that racial skills are subpar vs non racial ones, but you’re actually comparing a super elite (D-series golem) with the regular elite (Glyph of Elemental), so that part got me curious enough to make a comparison. Currently I have 27 skill points or so, if the golem is indeed better than the glyph than I’ll take that over tornado.
How about when I need a tank besides the projectile reflect? Is the earth elemental a better choice or can the golem tank as well? The notes did mention that the golem has high vitality and toughness.

Has anyone here used both summon skills and made a comparison? I have an Asura elementalist and I can’t decide which one to use.

The Mandarin voice acting sounds pretty terrible… then again it’s probably not their fault; the language itself was a degrade form of the Chinese language(s) anyway.
You obviously misinterpreted my post. I meant that “playing the flute in game does not make you a musician”. Claiming otherwise is akin to a child banging on a trash can and calling himself an experienced drummer. There’s no reasonable way to interpret it the way you did, unless you think I’m the NSA and can spy on you.
Clearly you’re upset and defensive over this (for some unknown reason), so relax and cool off before you start taking offense at things which aren’t offensive.
It certainly does not. But my point was what made you think that the person playing it isn’t already a musician behind the screen? A musician can’t have some fun with an in-game flute and make great music, despite its limitations due to game design? Just because a musician is playing with a virtual flute doesn’t mean he’s a child banging on trash cans, and it certianly doesn’t warrant to be muted forever. Particularly, even if inexperienced people were simply playing the flute to have fun, it didn’t annoy me one bit. In fact I’m always interested and excited to see how people, inexperienced or not, play their own music. It’s a warming feeling despite people having different levels or fields of expertise, having the same interests at heart.
But far be it from me that someone with over 15 years of experience would find this so annoying that every single one of them deserves to be muted forever, because they are just children banging on trash cans.
Mouhappai – you should be happy that there is a slider now, no need to feel embarrassed that people might not like it – because the ones who don’t like it don’t have to get mad and irritated – they can simply mute you without you knowing.
I play without sound most of the time anyways, but I’m glad they keep on introducing more instruments. Maybe one day we can have concerts similar to the ones in Lotro.
Thanks, I understand where you’re coming from, but the feeling of someone around you that doesn’t like your playing is still pretty distracting. But I understand, I’ll just do whatever I feel like, until someome walks up to me and tells me to kitten off, lol.

As long as the instrument slider has a setting for 0 volume, it’s the perfect solution.
I have a genuine question for those who set the volume slider to off forever; what is it about in-game street performers and musicians that make you hate them so?
Because you’re neither musicians nor street performers. If I want to hear musical talent perform, I’ll go see real musical talent perform.
Well dang. That’s the last thing I want to hear after 10 years of music playing.
I’ve been playing multiple instruments for over 15 years (and being paid to do it) and don’t consider myself especially talented. Besides, time spent does not necessarily equal talent.
Judging by your previous comments, I find that hardly convincing. Not the being paid part, ‘cause that’s pretty much a given if you work in this industry, don’t see why there was even need to mention that. But if it’s true, then you’re pretty conceited for a musician. Forgive me for being blunt.
You call me conceited for bringing up years spent, just as you did (except being more humble, stating I didn’t think I was especially talented)? Hilarious. Perhaps look in the mirror next time you want to point fingers, eh?
In your previous comments, you made the assumption that anyone who plays the instruments in game is not a musician. I am not comparing myself to you by bringing up my experience, merely that anyone with or without experience is apparently, to you, not a musician. I did not say I was talented, but I certainly feel that I am experienced.
But why did you assume first that music players in game are not musicians? Don’t you think that by chance people who buy the flute might be… musicians in real life? 10 years we spent studying, practicing, performing, yelled at for not getting that Beethoven feel, or that Bach feel, etc, and then you go and make us all look like child’s play with an assumption that we’re “not musicians”. I didn’t say 10 years to downplay you. I’m just pointing out that’s 10 years of blood and sweat come to nothing with your simple assumption that I’m no musician, and so you turn the volume slider down.
This is what I mean when I said you’re pretty conceited, for a musician. And sorry about the English, it’s not my first language.
As long as the instrument slider has a setting for 0 volume, it’s the perfect solution.
I have a genuine question for those who set the volume slider to off forever; what is it about in-game street performers and musicians that make you hate them so?

But now I’m embarrassed to even take out the flute and play anything since I’ll thinking that people around me could be annoyed by it.
I hope you are joking here. By this logic serial killers, rapists, drug dealers and psychopaths should be in charge everywhere.
By this logic one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, simple as that.
I have a genuine question for those who set the volume slider to off forever; what is it about in-game street performers and musicians that make you hate them so?
Don’t vote for corrupt people? Now this reminds me of a popular but tricky question…
__________
It is time to elect a new world leader and your vote counts. Here are
the facts about the three leading candidates:
Candidate A:
Associates with crooked politicians and consults with astrologists. He’s had two mistresses.
He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.
Candidate B:
He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used
opium in college and drinks a quart of whisky every evening.
Candidate C:
He is a decorated war hero. He’s a vegetarian, doesn’t
smoke, drinks wine occasionally and hasn’t had any extramarital affairs. Had a pet dog and was also a talented artist in his youth.
Which of these candidates would be your choice? Decide first, then see the spoiler for the answer.
Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt
Candidate B is Winston Churchill
Candidate C is Adolf Hitler
This is a tricky one. You actually need to have 10 unread mail, so while you get your friends to spam you, let your mailbox fill up to 10 before opening it.
You can still play repeated notes as a single long note, but I still it would be better to use the “stow” button on your elite to cancel a note. It’s useless since we can stow it with the ~ key anyway.
The same happened to my Sylvari, I don’t know how I did it but he was stuck in this pose for a while.
It is not. If the current log in screen was the beta screen and vice versa, you’d be asking why the beautiful landscape background was removed and how much better the old one was.
It happens all the time in video games. It’s not really the login screen that you like, it’s the ego involved that matters, and that people want what they don’t have.
Why was this feature removed? It’s so much better than what we have now!
Why was this idea scrapped? It’s so much better than the current one!
This fan made content is awesome! The game is balanced now, the devs could take a few lessons from this guy!

“Watch the best -insert class here- player on youtube”.
People still believe in these sort of things? Why don’t people believe in themselves anymore?
Generally speaking a horn isn’t quite known for being a solo instrument, many songs do not sound great on the horn as all notes produced by it sound like a bomb going off.
However the flute has been a respected solo instrument for ages, and the notes flow well like a running river. Many songs have been composed for flute solos, while horns are usually ceremonial, or act as accompaniments to a soloist.
I’ve been messing around with the flute and decided to try the Titanic theme My Heart Will Go On. I don’t know if it’s been done before (for the horn maybe?) but it fits the whole flute thing going on. Plus I think it’s only a matter of time before it comes lol.
Underlined numbers are in lower octave.
(Notes in paranthesis are optional)
Notes without spaces in between must be played fast like a trill.
Some repeated notes can be omitted due to how the flute sounds/work in this game, simply use as you see fit.
Begin on the higher octave:
Section 1
1 2 2 3 3 | 2 1 2 5 | 3 2 1 | 6 (4) 5
1 2 2 3 3 | 2 1 2 5 | 3 5 6 | 5 232
Section 2
8 8 8 8 7 8 | 8 7 8 | 2 3 2
8 8 8 8 7 8 | 2 5
Repeat section 2
1 2 | 5 5 4 3 2 | 3 4 3 2 | 8 7 8 7 | 6 5
1 2 | 5 5 4 3 2 | 3 4 3 2 | 8 7 8 7 7 8 | 2 3 2 1
I have no problem with ANet randomly handing out candy to supporters.
The only people this really sucks for, I think, are those who deliberately saved up all their gems so they could afford a kite later, and find out they would have been better off buying a black lion key and getting the kite for free.
But… well. How common is that?
I don’t know, but I happen to have bought 800 gems in advance for the flute, but perhaps a bit too early. I didn’t get my kite. I’ve always loved this game for it being poor-people-friendly, but this slap in the face was pretty ouchy.
The flute in game is in E major, so this will sound a different pitch than the example you provided in the link, but try this and let me know if it’s okay for you.
Begin from the higher octave (underlined numbers are lower octave):
6 5 6 | 5 6 5 3 | 1 2 3 1 | 6
6 5 6 | 5 6 5 3 | 1 2 3 5 | 6
I put this together really fast so I hope there’s no mistakes.
