The substitution of offensive stats with defensive stats (mostly toughness) will give you a little more wiggle room to survive when raids to occur. I imagine once each boss’s mechanics are learned everyone will lean towards offensive gear.
Personally, on my fractal guardian, I use Knight’s armor with Nomad’s trinkets. I’m able to keep 100% protection uptime for my party while stacking and I can facetank bosses 90% of the time.
I can only imagine Knight’s armor being more DPS oriented if crits are involved, which may be good for Guardian given the crit-proc traits. Soldier’s doesn’t have precision IIRC, and based on speculation from the devs when talking about raids and the meta, the Power stat may not be as viable in raid dungeons.
You have any preferred play styles?
Revenants are nice and new, they’re worth trying out for their unique class mechanics.
Eles don’t play too much like thieves do in the sense that they can to significant damage from a range. (Not the hugest fan of Elementalists, so please elaborate for me)
I do like my mesmer, as his class mechanics are complex to me currently, but definitely a fun class to learn. I hear they can be extremely verstile as well
Of course, the obligatory, “It’s all up to you!” statement is in order, but if you have the expansion, may as well give revenant a spin!
Hopefully this won’t get buried..
But I noticed that interacting with an item in open world won’t grant the inteded item.
In the collection achievement, “The Predator I: The Experimental Rifle,” You go through Portmatt’s lab, in Bloodtide Coast, and gain access to his weapons console. After prompting the console and clicking, “Yes,” no items are gained and/or discovered. I am 99% sure you are supposed to receive the, “Decrypted Weapons Research,” for the precursor collection achievement. However, nothing is gained, despite choosing, “Yes,” when prompted. Another player remarked that this hasn’t been fixed since launch.
Good luck, and hope to see it fixed
On a somewhat related note, I only managed to get 3 seconds or so from superspeed, including the toolbelt skill from the gyro.
Was it a bug that scrapper could only stack about 3 seconds of superspeed, despite all the traits and combos that provide it? It seems too small of a window to grant super speed for use in raids or other PvE content..
For the OP engineer all the way kinda sad there are many engi mains in here
i want the Engi to be my main class tho i dont have any yet…i need someone to teach me how to play Engi correctly at PVP, is a mess for me..so many skills, Elementalist is incredible easy if you think how many skills the Engi have to use x_x
It was tough to start out on engi. The kits were confusing to understand, as it is like having 4 other weapon sets, the best recommendation I can give is head on over to Wolfineer and look up his PvP builds.
For when scrapper comes out in HoT you will want to use power hammer, I was unstoppable when I dove into PvP and was the most fun I’ve had in PvP (Hardcore PvE here)
Or feel free to message me about builds or strategies if you see me online, I love training new engineers to take over the world!
5. Should some silly person actually use an oil pot, do everything possible to keep the poor mordrem from being burned horribly. Keep the fights out of range of the oil and knock back any poor foe that manages to blunder into it. They will thank you for it, and the silly person will shortly stop bothering them as per rule 3, when the silly person and the pot are destroyed.
I only killed the Slingers, Smashers, and Bashers with tons of conditions, am I in violation of the rules?
Also, you may want to add that if a player is laying down TONS of condi fields, please save the poor mordrem by using point blank shot or firing cannons at them!
Definitely check out some of the guides that Dulfy puts out, there are a lot of useful things that are described in detail.
If you visited GW2 dungeons I’m sure you are familiar with Banter Bill, he taught me how to do the more complex dungeons like Arah.
For everything else, just try a search on Youtube, such as if you want to know how to profit from The Silverwastes
And now is as better a time than ever with the free accounts running in to learn from community members like Aurora Peachy, MMOInks, and Wooden Potatoes who can go in-depth on specific topics on the game.
Of course, the best way to learn s to go out and try it! I know TTS does Triple Trouble per week and it is super organized and you can learn a lot in one runthrough.
Happy hunting!
Truehorn.
Sorry this had me laughing for 5 minutes straight.
I’ve always been a Trahearne supporter. His accent, his personality, some solid character developement, and of course his signature battle cry, “DIE BY MY BLADE,” whenever he was wading through the legions of undead, all made me glad he was around for the personal story. I’m even MORE glad that Anet didn’t just kill him off for some reason at the conclusion of the story.
I hope in HoT I can hear him congratulate me, “Well done!,” everytime I do all the work and kill something for him.
Banter Bill on YT has videos of casual runs you may find helpful.
This guy has taught me almost ALL the dungeon paths. Would definitely watch him as a preliminary measure.
Other than that, TA is a pretty easy dungeon. Follow people, skip a lot of mobs, and please, if you want your team to survive, take the time to destroy the Nightmare Tree’s mortars in Up path.
Have fun!
I use GW2Crafts for crafting guides in general, and now it has levelling from 400-500. No matter what you do, this process will be expensive, but make sure to minimize the damage to your wallet and buy components at the listed prices or lower (refresh the page to update the prices). Keep in mind this guide doesn’t incorporate the use of crafting boosters etc.
Personally, I just popped a crafting booster and discovered a ton of armors, starting with the raw materials. I’m unsure of how much you have to make, but as long as you discover, the level will go by fast.
Perhaps I just need a faster read/write HDD. Thanks for your input though!
Thiefs are pretty wide in variety in all PvE, PvP, and WvW. However, thiefs are not as effective in a large raid in WvW than they are solo (roaming). Between the two, I would roll a Thief (much more sought in PvE than a ranger in my experience).
Allow me to put bias into play and I’d recommend an engineer, they aren’t AS strong as they used to be in PvP, but with the right build they can deliver swift justice. They are a fairly complex class if you want a challenge, and you’ll never get bored of them. They have tons of support, survivability, and damage capabilities AND you can even call down an orbital strike!
In the end you can decide between all classes. After all you have 5 default character slots! Enjoy the classes
Hey all!
Just was wondering if you notice a lot of difference in using an SSD, for example: faster loading times in LA, rather than using an HDD.
Simple question I know, but I’m interested if there are other benefits
I don’t see why not! It should work unless there is some fine print involved..
I think it has to do with the fact that the top-tier backpack is only level 78, not level 80. This is the same reason why you can’t stick level 80 upgrades on the backpack. It’s almost like lower-level armors that can only craft certain simple stat sets before getting the advanced ones.
Other back pieces that are level 80, like Mawdrey or the fractal capacitor, give a much wider selection of stats, including Valkyrie.
Lots of goodies in here. Still being developed but it has a world boss timer, frostgorge champ guide, spirit shard profit guide, dungeon token profit guide, and tons more! Check it out and enjoy!
I really enjoy the fact that the races aren’t the typical fantasy races such as dwarf, elf, etc, etc. and they give REASONS why some of those races don’t exist, like the dwarves.
Additionally I love doing map completions in low-level zones and seeing everyone help one another. Just yesterday I saw players saying how much better of a community this is than the WoW community. Makes me smile
With most crafting (excluding chef) you need 2 item components (For rifle: A rifle stock and rifle barrel; for a helmet: Helmet padding and helmet casing) and an insignia (armor) or an inscription (weapon). Combining these will grant you a weapon of the desired stats. But you probably know about all the stats so I won’t delve into those.
In order to make most of these components, you need to refine raw materials. Raw materials are the silk scraps/wood logs/ore that you find around the world through harvesting and salvaging. Refining these raw materials will allow you to make your weapons/armor components.
Lastly, keep in mind that if you don’t have a recipe in your crafting window, you have to use discovery to find the recipe (accessible through the anvil-shape tab to the left of the crafting window) and put together the 2 components and insignia/inscription, much like the mystic forge, to make your weapon!
Also, remember that to craft RARE or EXOTIC insignias/inscriptions, you must buy the recipe from the master crafter (next to the crafting station) with karma.
Hope I helped, and I hope I didn’t over-explain. This should be a nice cheaper way to gear up your toons, too. Happy crafting!
I do have lots of alts (Engineer, Thief, Guardian, Elementalist, Warrior, Ranger) of all of them I LOVE my engineer.
Engineers are INCREDIBLY versatile with all the builds they can do, but as a consequence can be the most difficult to understandfor a brand new player. Once you learn their ways, you’ll see exactly what I mean. They are pretty fast paced, and always has something new to learn everyday!
As for thief, my previous main, can be pretty fast-paced, with less viable builds than the Engineer. I’ve had some good fun with him, and thiefs are inevitably depended on in dungeons for stealth. Other than that, they dish out a ton of damage.
As for Races, I haven’t really decided a race based on a class. I never use the racial skills unless a rare and specific situation calls for it. Although I imagine a good race for a engineer would be an Asura or a Human, giving in to stereotypes.
My recommendation for sticking to one class is to run around the open world, explore, do events, do map completions. Let that map progress-bar be a challenge for you to finish that map on your ONE character (map completion isn’t account-wide). I would honestly avoid PvP until you want to get deeper into a class’s feel, as I find it more likely that you’ll simply try one, quit, and switch professions.
If you ever have engineer questions, feel free to message me in-game if I’m on, just add as a friend (MrNicoolio.9753) and I’ll gladly support your engineering endeavors!
Consider the server you are on and try to pick a guild situated on that server. It makes everything much smoother.
Only really matters if you want a WvW guild, due to new megaserver changes. You see a lot more multi-server guilds out there now. But I’m interested if there’s other reasoning behind it
Congrats! From what I hear it’s an annoying weapon to go after.
As for what you should do with it….
1. If you salvage it, you have a good chance to get globs of dark ectoplasm (for ascended crafting) and getting that sigil of fire (which can be worth a couple gold or so on the TP). Mystic forge can have a CHANCE of giving a better weapon, however, I am slow to trust the mystic forge as for all the times it gave me something worse than I put in. In this sense, I would salvage with a Black Lion Salvage Kit.
2. If you unlocked the skin (making the weapon account-bound) it will be stored in your account wardrobe, which is accessible from your bank & crafting stations. If Volcanus is in there, you can access the Volcanus skin on all of your characters, costing a transmutation charge to bind the appearance for each weapon.
3. Lastly, it’s subjective to you! Maybe you’ll want to run a condi build sometime in the future, who knows!
Hope it helped, and sorry if I give too much advice. I do that alot
I believe if no chest appeared at all, you can redo the event and get a chest as per usual.
And as a small word of advice, if you have a history of DCing during teq, it may be wise to group up with people in the zerg. If anything it’ll increase the chance of you getting back to your old map, provided someone doesn’t swipe your spot from you.
A couple buddies and I run Arah P1-P3 almost daily and we usually need 1-2 pugs
We started a tradition to put, “No losers,” in the LFG ad. Not so much to deter new players or inexperienced runners, but just to make it fun. Whenever somebody joins the group we immediately ask, “Are you a winner?” if they respond, it’s usually the ones that are really good and have fun with the dungeon. If they don’t reply, we usually just leave them alone in complete silence…
Though one day, it came back to us when a PUG joined us and we do our usual, “Are you a winner?” question and the guy replies, “Oh you guys again!”
I have a feeling we’re getting popular, good!
