I actually still think ANet has pretty well calculated the amount of playtime it takes to hit the pip cap. Yes, it takes long and it suckes for all WvW Vets, who get finaly rewarded, but only slowly and with much investment.
But just imagine everybody could hit the cap easily in a relative short time. The WvW would be crowded with players just for the grind and probably with no love for the game mode at all. Getting to the cap has to be a bit ludicrous to discourage this kind of behavior or WvW would turn into an ascended gear farm.
I like the idea. It’s more rewarding for your playtime, even if you can’t make it to one of the big chests.
Not a bad idea.
I think one outnumbered pip sounds reasonable. But I would give only +1 pip if you have participation maxed, so it hits you a bit harder, when you afk and it motivates to keep your participation up by doing something usefull.
If they raise the number of pips in low level, then the other levels should also be raised imo
The update was long overdue, so I’m glad it’s finally here.
Roaming or running in a zerk on a full map is just so much more fun.
I also like the pip system and I am now working on gaining ranks and tickets, and of course having fun in WvW.
So, thanks for making WvW more attractive to play
I would prefer clipping.
The position of the greatsword, staff and so on is fine, only the shields and nackpacks floating so far awa form the body looks wierd.
One of my guild mates needed the GoB for his legendary and this acutally got us back into WvW. A completed one and a half reward tracks in two evenings (about 9 hours totally) with the guild buff and the experience buff to get more reward track progress.
The GoB is actually one of the parts of a legendary that requires you to put some time into the game and not just grind gold and materials… so I think it’s in a pretty got spot right now.
Guys, he is trolling. Don’t take him seriously.
I suppose this thread is just a sarcastic comment on this year’s Halloween.
It’s not just you. It feels like they nerfed all the fun out of it.
It really makes me sad to see this years Halloween Event. I was looking forward to it, even if I didn’t expect much change to the year before… but this is just awefull.
There is nothing new at all, even less then the years before. I hoped to find at least some rewards, that would be worth playing for, but looking at them, just demotivated me totally. The crow mini looks cool, but the price, that’s just ridiculous.
I love guild wars 2 and Halloween was probably my favourite festival in the game. But over the years, they managed to suck all the fun out of it and replaced it with boring grind and item sinks
So, I was just waiting for the meta event in tangled depths to begin, had a map with 4 commanders and enough people to do the events. However, about 1 min before the event started, the map suddenly closed and everybody was scattered around on different maps, squads were disbanding… Well, no chak gerent for me this time (and probably 80 other players).
The map was full, so why did it close? I also didn’t see any timer, that would say, the map will close soon, but I might just not have noticed it.
There’s already a way to practice the raid.
It’s called doing the raid.
I can only agree to this. When my guild started raiding, our skill was bad, we had problems with the mechanics and not all had the perfect equip. We failed VG for weeks, then almost quit raiding at gorse and when we finally killed it, sabetha was down the next day. Every boss will need some time befor a group got used to it, but it gets easier everytime.
So practice is the key to raids and of course some may lern slower than others.
The problem raids have is not the difficulty, it is that you need 10 people for it. I personally like the 10 man content, but sometimes it is difficult to find so many people. I don’t want anet to change anything about the raids. It’s people, who need to understand, that raids are no content for solo players. Find a raidgroup or a guild who is willing to take you in or be satisfied with pugs.
I would love to see some GW1 armor returning to GW2, some had really great design. I was very in love with the Elite Necrotic armor and I still am
However, I doubt, that anet will bring out any full armor set soon. It seems, that they need a (imo ridiculously) long time to get an armor set ready for release and in the moment, they are probably still working on precursor and legendary armor.
A full set includes heavy, medium, light, times five races, times two sexes, so it’s like developing 30 sets. It takes nine months to develop. (That’s for a normal armor set — legendary is much longer.)
Maybe they should think about releasing each armor class seperatly, so they would not have to work on everything at once. It would not actually be more armor, that is released, but it would probably feel, like more armor coming in the game.
I would love to see a fractal armor.
Since dungoens got their armor sets, it would only be logical to have one for fractals.
Maybe different tiers would be possible, like one with mist effects and one without.
It also should be hard to aquire, and with “hard” I do not mean expensive, just doing a lot of fractals or some challenges for it.
They could actually use already exsiting maps to make new dungeon like instances.
For example, a party could go into the raidmaps (after the raidstory) to research the bandit and white mantle activity. They could find some remaining forces and fight them and with the ley line energy running wild right now, any types of bosses were possible.
Since the maps are already there they would only have to design the encounters and events.
Just a thought.
I started with revenant, but PS warrior should also be good for starting with raids. Both classes have not so much responsibility. Just giving boons, do damage and CC.
Once you know the mechanics and can handle them everything viable should be fine, even if some have more work to do then others.
Builds can be found on http://metabattle.com.
If you join a PUG, you’ll be expected to play a meta build.
The first encounter from wing 3 might be the most easy one, but everything is quiet easy, if your squad members know what to do
“When it’s done.”
We can only speculate here. It will take some time to make the armor skins alone, since they had not done that at the time they released experimental armor.
I think if we’re lucky, we might still get it this year, but probably later.
I generally like the idea of having historical events as fractals. Playing as a charr in the battle of ascalon was already great. It would be awesome to replay more scenes from GW1, or maybe some parts from the GW books.
I think I would appreciate everything lore related
First there needs to be an easy mode. The current raids are catering to an extremely small number of players. If you want people to raid with you, an easy mode is the best way to learn, not wiping for hours.
Ok, the people who raid might not be the majority, but their number is no “extremely small”. I can’t offer numbers, but the raiding community is pretty big from my expirience.
Also going into a raid and wipe, till you get the mechanics right, that’s how it worked for everyone, when raids were released. That’s even how dungeons worked, when the game launched.
Why is it so difficult to accept, that some things are hard?
Raid story would not give you much insight into the current story.
But, if your actually care enough, it’s all there in a completed instance and summarized at the beginning of wing 3.
I saw plenty of teaching runs in lfg today — you can learn to raid if you want.
I think you missed what I said. We don’t want to waste the time of another player. It would be nice to be able to go in and experience and learn mechanics on your own time.
You can actually always go into a raid an just experience everything on your own. The raids themself are not that difficult, once you understand the mechanics.
The problem of the raids is, that it need 10 people to complete (or less very good people). My own guild has difficulties with finding 10 people for raiding :/
A mode for 5 people might be a solution, but could still be hard.
For the story part, the raid you play not as the raid commander, but as a totaly unknown group of soldiers(?). So in the living story it’s like your character hasn’t expirienced the raid at all and does not know, what happened there.
Hints for the white mantle activity existed in the silverwastes, where you could find bandit badges with the white mantle symbol
i think a big problem is that raids only accept specific builds or most raids do and that is so anti guild wars imo if they made it where all classes were accepted instead of this meta crap we wouldnt need a difficulty setting to me. remember guild wars 2 wasnt supose to be about the trinity but now with raids there is a trinity
My main is necro and in the past, when I entered a dungeon with random ppl, I was often asked, if I could switch the profession… So this meta thing is not a raid problem, it has been there since launch.
The raid mechanics require healing and some bosses need a tank, but basicliy every class could tank in GW2, some better with others and the need of a healer finaly made stats with healing power usefull.
Of course there will always be classes, that are ‘better’ for some boss fights, if every class could do the same things with the same efficancy, it would be boring.
You can do raids with non meta builds or class combination ([SC] just killed KC with six guardians, when I remeber right), but for forming pugs it is easier, to go the seemingly most efficient way to kill a boss.
Yeah, the reason for kicking you, well was not a reason at all.
But come on guys, everybody knows, that the world is full of kittens and raids are no exception. You can get lucky with pugs and find nice and helpfull people, but sadly that’s not always the case.
So if you pug, you must expect to encounter some bad/toxic leads or just people, who are impacient. If you don’t want that, find yourself a static group or a guild for raiding
lol only 25?
That’s totally fine imo. When I saw this thread, I thought it would be much more, like 60+LI for a piece.
My idea on the rewards/ easy mode would be like this: no achievement progress ( Collection & normal ), reduced weekly magnetite cap (50), one LI / wing instead of /boss and regarding boss rewards : chance at ascended accessory/armor, one guranteed rare and some gold. Defeating the boss also unlocks the accessories at the merchant , but nothing more. Mastery also should be unlocked on first boss kill/Wing clear.
This way every title/mini/skin even AP remains exclusive to current raids while non raiders have reason to complete the easier version weekly, but have incentive to switch to the current mode as soon as they mastered the mechanics in easy mode.
When you give magnitite shards as a reward for easy mode, nothing of the raids would be exclusive anymore, since you can buy everything (skin, mini) with these.

Here is already a thread about the droprate of the Bloodstone-Infused Ectoplasm
I think, it really suckes, that it is RNG and you can only loot the chests once a week.
They could have made it a 100% drop, but you would not need more than just one, like it is with the spirit threads. Then the timegate would be the same for everyone.
It’s sad, how this (and almost every other raid threat) strays off topic to a “We want raids gone/nerfed/easy mode…” against “Don’t take our raiding fun away from us by nerfing it”.
I believe there would be much less of this discussion, if there were new content for the “casual” players. But since raids are almost the only content for several month, it seems, they’re just the perfect target to complain about.
Well, back to the actual topic, which I believe is the future population of raids.
I think with new content releases like LS3 it’s likely, that a lot of people will focus on this for some time and probably raid less. They might however return to raiding when there is a lack of content again.
I also believe, that most of the current raides will still try to kill all or as many bosses as possible each week. I can’t really imagine new pve content to take away much of the raiding population, but I might be wrong there.
The bigger problem imo might be future raids. As mentioned, with more bosses, it might be more difficult to find a group doing a specific boss. However, since raids are the only way to get legendary armor (till now) many people will want to get their max LI each week and will therefore continue raiding.
Well, just try it out. I imagine, there are many people, who don’t want to play meta and instead experiment with their own build ideas. The difficult part might be finding people, to whom “trying” a boss is enough. From my own experience I know, that training and trying is fun for some time, but if there’s no progress, people tend to get frustrated. But well, trying is still better than doing nothing.
Just advertise your “no-meta-fun-raid” guild and look what happens
They have the merchant NPC in wing 3 telling you summeries of the things, that happend in raid wing 1 and 2. And honstly, there is not much story in the raids. Sometimes your character will say something, but the rest is just letters and notes on the ground or things to look at.
I can understand, that people want to “experience” the fights in a story mode, but since there is really not that much to tell and the informations are accesible for everyone, I doubt ANET will bring an extra story mode for raids.
It sure would be nice, if the NPC would react to your progress in the raid.
However, in case of defeating Scarlet, that was something ever player had done (at least that’s how history tells it) so this would have been a general change in the Council NPCs.
Connecting a dialouge with raidprogress should be possible, but more difficult to implement. Probably too much effort for just one conversation.
What I’d like to see is a game community in which everyone recognized that everything does not have to be aimed at everyone.
Yaaaaaaaaaas. +1
Is this Yaaaaaaas ironic? Or sarcastic? Or a troll?
It has to be, right? Because recognizing, that everthing does not have to be aimed at everyone, is very contradicting with everything Ohoni has written here.
Btw I absolutly agree with IndigoSundown.
No, got no clue. Looks pretty normal to me.
So, why don’t you just tell us?
Great post!
You managed to display the way every raider without a static group has to go. I can just agree to every thing you pointed out. It needs efford to get into raids, but it is perfectly doable.
Hm, some guildmates and I offered a teaching run for VG last week, no requirements… it was hard to fill it up. In the end we killed VG in the second try, since most players were just new to raids, but had exp in VG.
What I am trying to say is, there are many training or teaching runs in the LFG lately (not always, but I see them often). So for new players to get started, there is this possibility to gain exp and learn mechanics. For really getting into raid, it’s best to join a guild/raidguild.
PUGs are another option, but it can be very frustrating sometimes.
I like to play my own way and dislike being nothing but a meta clone, and in most cases my own playstyle and builds outperform the meta because I understand my proffesions more than the average joe who just copy/pastes a build and thinks they are good to go.
I think I found your problem :<
Why should that be a problem? I’ve never had a single problem running my own builds in ANY other content and I shouldn’t have to remove the fun aspect of the game in order to play some content I have paid for. This is the problem with the attitude of people who raid.
I do not enjoy being a mindless meta drone using builds and skills I do not enjoy why should anyone be forced to play a way they don’t enjoy just to be included if they can demonstrate they can perform up to standard without?
Well, raid isn’t ANY other content. It is supposed to be hard and it is to a certain degree. Raids need coordination and giving tasks to different classes. Some bosses require to do a lot of dps. I can understand, that you want to experiment with your build and you can. But raids are not the place for this, since raids are content for 10 ppl. It is not just about you. When you are in the raid, you need to be able to fullfill your roll and that often requires playing specific builds
I understand, that the experimental armor is supposed, to look a bit crappy and even clunky, but how it is now, it seems too crappy to me.
I would non of my characters wear one of these sets… maybe some single pieces are acceptable, but armor, that is going to become legendary, shouldn’t just be ‘acceptable’. Even crappy can look good. I actually like the most of the experimental weapons for their looks. The look damaged and broken, why can’t experimental armor also look like just broken pieces?
The thing, that sets me off most however are the silhouettes. Like it is now, the armor makes the characters look pretty ugly IMO. Why can’t the silhouettes be a bit flattering?
(I have nothing against the armors showing much skin, I actually love this on norn, so you can see their tattoos, but sexy does not need to mean naked.)
I’m totally a player of ‘FashionWars2’, so I’m always exited to see new skins and combine them. I was looking forward to experimental armor, but I can’t help, but feel very underwhelmed now… I’m sorry for the ones, who made the effort, to do this armor, but I don’t understand, how this could find its way in the game.
I’m begging for a remake of experimental armor (even if it might take months). Please listen to the community on this manner, because we are the ones, that will probably put hours of effort into getting this and the legendary armor.
Also, please make the legendary armor unique for each race. The basics could be similar, but maybe with different ornaments for each race. Something floral for sylvari, some gears for charr maybe?
This will be the most prestigious armor in the whole game, so please, please make it worth to earn it.
I don’t understand, what this drama is about.
If you want something, you can get in the raids, then just play them. If you’re not willing to do so, then well, sucks to be you.
If you want something, you have to earn it.
Could we please burry the discussion about “raidteam stealing our content”?
I suppose (I might be wrong, but I doubt it) that no one of you can imagine the effort and time, that is needed to make raids or LS-stuff. There might be a big difference in there.
I’m thankfull for raids. Without them, me and most of my guild would not play GW2 at the moment. I can understand, that people, who don’t raid, can’t wait for new content (I’m waiting for it myself). But when I understand it right, this thread here is more about people, who are afraid of missing out the lore and story of the raids.
You are not punished. You just cant have everything.
Players should have the OPTION to do everything.
Right now there is no option for Raids.
There are many guild out there, that are looking for mates to raid. My own guild was one of them. We raid two hours in the evening once or twice a week. If somebody has not time, he can come along next time.
Just look for a nice guild for raiding.
If you do not have two hours per week for raiding… well, then I think it really can’t be helped.
First of all, there is no gate when it comes to raids. If you don’t raid, you are excluding yourself.
There is so much truth in this.
Raids are the only reason I play the game at the moment. They offer a lot pf content, since killing a raid boss needs a lot of training. Also, preparing for raids, getting your class ready with the right equip (exotic armor is totally fine, just weapons in ascended would be nice) takes some (play-)time.
Also, I don’t understand this whole “raid team is stealing our content” discussion. I don’t play pvp… so should I brag about “pvp team is stealing my content”? So please, stop being ridiculous.
P.S. My guild has cleared raid wing 1 and 2 after several months of training. We have some players with us, that, well are not the most skilled (I would put myself somewhere there). I see no reason, why somebody should not be able to do raids. They are supposed to be difficult and there are, but on a good level in my opinion. So please, please ANET, leave raids as they are, don’t make them easier, just because some people seem to lazy to do them.
I hoped they would bring it back with HoT, since the tribal armor would fit perfectly into the jungle theme. They could have been like bladed and leystone armor, obtainable at merchants and as loot from meta-events.
However, I play GW2 since launch and was never much into pvp. I would have no problem playing some pvp to get the armor, it’s just sad, that it is not available.
I don’t realy care how they bring it back as long as it isn’t as an outfit
Have never had lags before, but some days now I have lags. The game is still kind of playable, since the lag is just sometimes noticeable, but it is not much fun in PvP or WvW with a ping from 100-800ms.
When I crafted Howler, I accepted, that its effects are broken and didn’t really care about, because for me it’s the most beautiful horn in the game. I use it often on my necro, but now I’m thinking about an other off-hand weapon. I don’t mean to be respectless, but I don’t want to play with a horn, that sounds as if a giant was farting. I don’t like that sound on any warhorn and at least a legendary horn should not sound like that. Hope it will be fixed.
