I don’t really see the point of Unravel, weaving between elements and wanting certain main-hand and off-hand skills really isn’t that hard, going from two elements to one is really easy.
I feel like maybe the skill should instead instantly fresh the global cool-down on attunement swaps/weaving instead.

That’s not the point of Unravel, of course it easy to get to one element. The point is to get to the OH skill you need w/o setting up and waiting 4 seconds to get there.

What role do you guys think the Weaver will play? I keep hearing the word “Bruiser” but I don’t know if that means it has just enough defense to stay in the front line and take that high risk/high reward dps role or if it’s just another PvP oriented spec.

Easy OPEN world Power Build ?

That’s me with 100% glass cannon everything. I read this thread and just hit record to show you how I was doing on my new Human mesmer that I’m currently going through HoT on. This is after a year and a half break so Im rusty. I can solo pretty much anything including Skill Points if I pay attention. Group events are a joke. idk what more you would really want out of an Open World PvE build. I always hear Open World PvE is the weakness of mes but thats crazy to me. I would kill for my ele to be half as good at open world.

If you want me to kill a certain mob or event that is giving you trouble let me know and I’ll record it.

Edit I was just showing it’s possible. If you actually want the build I’ll post screenshots but all you have to do is take every good power trait out of dom/illusions/dueling and play with the ones you like. Full zerker gear with some assassins here and there for hitting certain crit values.

That would be sick. I’m just thinking Mirage utilities are still up for minor changes so they could throw us a bone there but I like the sword3 idea better.

You get this impression from what, exactly?

Yeah, its only an impression but, it seems to me the mirage traits and skills that enhance PvE dps are mainly geared towards torment/bleed/confusion. I feel like, just as with reaper, the devs really want each elite specialization to have a pretty specific niche and really only have room for a PvE variant or a more pvp/wvw oriented one.

The only hope I was holding onto was that since torment and confusion were so bad in PvE, maybe the Mirage would have room for a power build. If they don’t intend for it to be there though, even if the community makes a decent build, they’ll try and nerf it down like condi Reaper.

Looks nice, but with the change in utilities and new stats I think power fire/air/weaver will have a strong place in the meta. No fresh air needed (low att swap from elite and weaver) so you can get bolt to the heart, massive dmg bonuses (from fire, air and weaver lines), improved scholars uptime from barrier, etc…

I’m just coming back after a long break so I’m pretty rusty when it comes to the pve meta. Doesn’t most of the ele power dmg come from abusing AoE skills on large targets like air overload and staff 5? I’m wondering if FA Weaver could compete with these in terms of dps.

Yea, I’m not super confident everyone will agree with me on this but something about the AA just irks me. It just looks like the blade is doing nothing and all I’m doing is spinning the flat side around. Punishing strikes is the real culprit but the rest of the chain is also just off.

So I just dropped some serious coin on the Scythe Staff Skin for my Daredevil and I’m pretty disappointed. The animations for the AA look like this skin wasn’t even taken into consideration and its one of maybe 4 or 5 melee looking staff skins (which is also pitiful). I mean, I tried my best to look up the animations before wasting my gold and all I could find was a youtube video with a Rev showing off theirs, which were beautiful. I thought for sure Daredevil would get the same love. Honestly all you would need to do is turn the angle of the staff a few degrees during the AA to make it look like the blade is hitting the target instead of the flat side.
Please take this into consideration. It’s such a waste for one of the very few melee staff skins to have such a weak AA animation.

What the heck is the problem with requiring you to prepare for the raid in a way that is natural and fluid just by doing their content which you paid to play in the first place?
I mean jeez, was it a “gate” to require you to get your characters to level 80 before you did certain dungeons? Why weren’t you complaining about that?
WTF kind of expansion would it be if there was literally no progression required at all? Im so glad none of you decided to go into game design.

What is the problem with being able to gain a reasonable amount of XP inside of raids?

When did I say that was a problem? What I am saying is you should go into a raid with as much preparation as possible and if you encounter a mastery gate, maybe you should go do some more low level pve until you’re actually ready for the big leagues. This is called progression buddy. Get used to it cause that’s what you paid for when you bought an MMORPG. There is always a process to furthering your character.

IDk about you guys but I just want to improve my own dps. At the moment, I have no idea if I’m doing the most effective rotation possible. All I can do is rely on calculations made by other players. I just want to see my own numbers so I can tweak stuff. It has nothing to do with anyone else. GW2 makes it even harder than most games to ensure I’m doing everything optimally. Most games like FF14 hold your hand and teach you your rotation as you level up. GW2 has variables for all kinds of situations and it would be fun to take a meter out and perfect myself in each one.

EDIT:
I know that flat DPS means nothing in GW2 as far as what you contributed to a fight in a raid/dungeon. It does, however, tell you that when the circumstances were right, you were doing the best you could or that you need to improve somewhere. Once again, all for the sake of personal adjustment.

Hasn’t been my experience at all. I usually start with a gravedigger on a mob/group of mobs then switch to RS or dagger to get down to 50% then spam Gravedigger for the win. Critting for 14-16k with the crappy beta gear so who knows what I could do with full ascended with proper sigils. There’s definitely been times when the mobs screw me over but thats all part of the fun. They finally got the risk/reward ratio down perfectly. If I could land these Gravedigger hits by facerolling, I would think they were a bit too strong. As it stands, I think its perfect.

I’m gonna wait on the professional theorycrafters for the actual numbers but man, Robert Gee kittening nailed it. I feel like a killing machine finally. Gravedigger feels smooth as butter. Great pay off for the wind up. The AA is doing wonders on 2+ targets. Nightfall is so effortless to land now and just feels awesome. Grasping Darkness hasn’t failed me even once so far. Death Spiral has the perfect little cone that never gives me any trouble. And don’t even get me started on the already wonderful reaper’s shroud. It now synergizes with itself and the traits even more. Death’s Charge is just beautiful.

Not to mention I’m doing all this with the crap armor from the beta chests. If I had prepared gear in my storage this would be nuts. Maybe this is what it feels like to be an elementalist or a warrior? idk its just so fun. I honestly don’t know how the numbers look, obviously we’re not a icebow 4 levels of amazing but the sheer fun factor is what I’m here to praise.

What can I say man, I’d tell you take take my money if I hadn’t already given it to you.

I don’t know enough about botting to argue with you. I’m just going to have to defer to the devs’ judgement on this one and trust them. They have been stressing in several posts that they are paying close attention to the transfer of wealth. They wont even allow paying players to sell more than a few items at a time on the TP, do you really think they’re not going to notice a newly upgraded free account transferring thousands of gold or large sums of materials?

The B2P restriction helped shield this game against the common MMO mouthbreather who turns pleasant communities toxic.

Whilst an influx of new players sounds good from a business sense, in the long run it could introduce destructive elements that bring the whole game much sooner than it should be put to rest.

And how do you propose they are going to do that at a rate of whispering one new player every 30 sec and only being able to spam in /s?

I bet people don’t even realise this game was already being sold for 15-25 euro’s depending on where you’d pick it up, before the HoT preorder anouncement.
The restrictions are really heavy, something most people will want to get rid of eventually. But that’s the beauty of it, they get to try it.

Man, this is nuts. I feel so bad for Anet. They made an incredibly boss move here. Not only are they going to get more players out here making the game more full and enjoyable for the Vets but they’re also expertly preempting the trolls, bots, and gold farmers by severely limiting they’re access to the tools they would need (chat and TP for example) to disrupt the game.
To the people complaining, please get over it. The game is 3 years old. Bundling the base game with the expac is common practice. The game itself has been on sale in the past for next to nothing anyways. Were you ripped off then? The free players are only getting a small taste of the actual game and the community that comes with it. They can’t even hang out with everyone in HoT when it arrives unless the shell out the dough. Stop looking at this as some offense to you personally. Anet is trying to build up their community and get make this expac drop an awesome experience full of new players and friends.
I’m simply amazed with their foresight with this and the way they’re handling all the criticism cause I know I’d be boiling if I saw this kind of hate and childishness.

Please keep doing what you’re doing Anet. I will do my part to get these newbies into the game and help be a spokesman for the community.

I don’t really think they’re doing anything against the gold farmers and traders. If you think about it, once HoT will come out then the price of the Core GW2 will lower and a lot. From $10 to even $5. Then they can get a stock of retail boxes to go full farming.

No doubt, you’re right. But this is a separate issue. the price drop is going to happen either way. That’s a consequence of the game being an older mmo. Hopefully Anet will be creative when dealing with it.

Definitely can’t complain about such a comprehensive buff to reaper but I do have a small issue with dagger still. I was under the impression that dagger was the defensive blood line type weapon. I mean, it has a root and a heal as 2/3 of its skills. Am I really just supposed to AA the boss for 50% of the time? Has anyone maybe done the numbers on reaper shroud dps with the Reaper’s Onslught fix? I would be so much more down with this if dagger was at least building to reaper shroud as a burst phase. As it stands, according to my understanding, dagger is even better than shroud single target. If dagger is supposed to be the end-all-be-all of reaper single target dps, cant we get some changes to dagger 2 or 3 making it feel like an actual dps weapon and not defense/utility?

Hey bud, no need for the passive aggressive tone. I dont know what aspect of the greatsword auto attack is burst, its just slow. When the AA actually hits a target tyhe numbers are the same or smaller than my dagger which is unacceptable for the time it takes to swing.. DPS literally means “damage per second”. Even slow weapons have a calculable “damage per second”. If the DPS of the greatsword is lower than the dagger in every way then why would you use it in PvE? Dagger already has the best single target, the best 2 target cleave, the best defense (life siphon and root) and the best LF regeneration. What is left for the greatsword? Some niche position where if there’s 4+ mobs it starts to pull ahead a bit? That’s absolutely not good enough for me. Dagger auto attack is sooo boring that I cannot continue playing with such a simple rotation. I really need the greatsword to be a general power dps weapon or dagger to be completely revamped. I dont think its so much to ask to get something similar to what Guardian and Warrior already have, a greatsword with decent single target and great cleave/AoE.

Firstly, mmo players across all games make the mistake of missing the other type of damage: damage per Hit and reaper GS fits this very much so. There is a class similar to this in TERA, dubbed slayer(or berzerker), which hits very slow but very hard. this is the theme of reaper’s greatsword. it does not have high dps, it has high dpH
And i’m having a lot of success with it in WvW frontlining.

Well, idk if you’re talking about PvP or PvE (either way it shouldn’t matter) but the Reaper GS has both low attack speed and low damage per hit. According to every bit of hard math I’ve seen, the GS is outclassed in dps by dagger MH in every way. Even spamming GD below 50% hp is less dps than simply clicking 1 on dagger MH. Please prove me wrong, I’d welcome it, but all the math and my own personal feeling when playing reaper screams that GS is not up to snuff atm.

of course it is outclassed by dagger in dps. dagger attacks faster. as it stands now, my gs auto hits pretty much as hard as my dagger auto, in that sense, yes GS auto attack does need to hit harder.
even if it does hit harder by the time release rolls around, dagger would still outclass greatsword in terms of dps.

I mean, you have to explain why dagger should do more dps than the greatsword. Maybe in a 1 target situation the dagger could pull ahead a bit but I’m sorry, the dagger does not feel like a dps weapon. I literally click one and sit back and I only do that because its the best we got atm. We dont have a true power dps weapon. The dagger skills are all geared towards siphoning and control, not damage. I want a power dps weapon that can keep me having fun for months coming up with cool rotations and combos. This is where the greatsword needs to shine.

General Reaper Feedback

Ok, I just tried a couple dungeons to get a feel for Reaper in a group setting. Honestly, I feel much much better about it now. RS is still living up to what it should be which is great. Greatsword felt much better than when I was soloing mobs. The only thing is, I still feel like the AA numbers just arent there. I feel like I’m reeling back to do this giant kitten attack but then I just see these tiny little white numbers (is the vuln crit trait not working properly?). Also, Gravedigger still feels terrible. It needs to be spammable below 50% or its always gonna feel kitten as an execution skill. I only have time in that 1 second for a single wimpy little AA. It just feels lackluster. I really think we’re on the right track here if we can just get GS some TLC. Also, this is all in regards to PvE, I’m going to leave PvP criticisms to people who have a clue.

General Reaper Feedback

Good:
Animations are beautiful, I look like a graceful deathgod mowing down evil.
Reapers Shroud feels amazing and seems to do great dmg.
I feel the synergy of my skills, as a necromancer I’ not used to using my skills in conjunction for greater effect so this feels great.
Mobility is obviously still not really there but I now feel like I have tons of options to get to my target.

Bad:
I have barely even touched shouts, i mean, why would I even bother when wells are a thing.
GS AA damage is simply garbage. If I dont get 3 crits with my auto attack It’s literally the worst feeling in the world. I waste precious seconds doing absolutely nothing. There’s this huge build up on the last swing and I feel like something beautiful is about to happen but nope, it was all a lie…
GS2 is a terrible execute. It feels so awkward with the 80% reduce recharge. Just enough time to tickle my opponent with an AA swing that just reminds me of how garbage I am.
GS5 is honestly a waste of time, I’d rather just run up to my opponent than use that clunky little skill.

No offense taken, thanks for pointing out that sticky, Ive already tried most of the stuff on there but there’s a couple things I can give a shot. I cant remember what I was running before off the top of my head but I can look that up soon. My main display is the same as before but my second display was just a cheap low res tv. Im going to try and hook that back up when I grt home, it never bothered me before to watch youtube on it lol. It seems to be pretty consistant, my internet speed is always over 100mb/s so i dont think bandwidth is the issue. Im running them as extended desktops, i dont think ive tried eyefinity. Drivers for the gpu and on board graphics are up to date. My second display is using the onboard but ive tried it connected to the gpu with the same results. I can try it using the gpu again and disabling the ondoard graphics, I never tried that.
Thanks for the suggestions, ill post on the results asap.

Thanks for the advice, im using chrome but ive tried opera and firefox. Could it also be that my second display is a 40in tv? Maybe using a small monitor would help? I feel like im missing something here cause my old computer could play gw2 and youtube together without this huge of a fps hit.

So I just built a new PC. This is my first time building my own but I had a knowledgable friend help with assembly so hopefully thats not the issue. Specs are:

Intel i5 4690k — processor
Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H Black — motherboard
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC 4GB — gpu
Patriot 2×8GB DDR3-2133 LP Red — memory
Crucial MX200 500GB — SSD
EVGA Supernova 650 GS 750W — psu
Thermalright True Spirit 140 Rev. A — cpu cooler
Windows 8.1 — os

I wanted to be specific with the parts so you could let me know if they were known to be low quality or faulty but I tried to do my research as best I could being a complete novice.
Honestly my fps is normally pretty good (100+) but when a youtube video is playing on my second moniter I get crazy stuttering type lag spikes. Its not exactly fps loss, it just feels like its skipping. The in game fps indicator is showing me at 70-80 but when i turn the camera it stutters and dips down to like 30-40. While this doesnt sound that bad, it feels really terrible, like everything is skipping around.

Sorry for being all over the place with my description, im writing this on my iphone so its hard to edit lol. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

No no no. You’re not understanding.
The theme of the Dragonhunter is related to the concept of the Witch-hunter, those who weed out evil hiding amongst the people and to protect the ideals and doctrine of their religion with unrelenting fervor.
The basis of their choice in name was to swap witch with dragon, basically making the dragons corruption the thing that’s evil and needs weeding out. That concept doesn’t work. Dragons are suppose to be forces of nature. Even if they are evil, there is no parallel between fighting heretics and defending your lives from apocalyptic disaster. Not only that but no hunting is necessary. The dragons and it’s minions are hardly hiding. This is a war that had no covert angles for a hunter to stalk.
Also, regarding big game, and hunting, the last thing being paralleled, witch hunts were more like trials or torture not literally picking people off with guns or bows. The only thing left is the big game thing. It makes no sense a Guardian would seek to do this. Purify corruption perhaps but that isn’t big game where you’re pulling down these targets because they’re big (ie their hides). All in all the connections are very loose and other options would be better.
Anet, I implore you to just make up a name that isn’t a word like the French Draconnier, and make the meaning and context for it you desire rather than attempt to go for a lofty conceptual name from existing words.

yes yes yes, i understand that the dragon hunter hunts dragons and that all the names of all the classes are either generic as hell or random mystical sounding words. its all stupid, nonsensical, and immature, but thats why i play games. I can’t believe how much you people care. I feel like this whole dragonhunter thing just got blown way out of proportion and now people are just having fun with the complaining. I guess it is entertaining for forum dwellers.

Wait what? Whats your definition of guard? Pretty sure Im “guarding” them by keeping them from harm. The faster I kill something in PvE the more “guarded” my party is. Now im wondering why my thief isnt called a guardan, kinda messed up. Guess if my thief isnt going to be called a guardian we may as well let the dragonhunter have its name huh?

Ok so on my thief i’ve guarded literally thousands of towns against invading monsters and guarded a little girl through a tunnel of molten lava. Why then do they only call guardians “guardians”? Because its a game thats why. It loosely fits with their general theme so thats what they’re called. Now everyone kills dragons right? Well guess what, now there’s a class that is generally themed towards being a type of specialized dragon slayer. He’s no better at killing dragons than a thief is at guarding villagers but thats his theme so thats what he’s called. Jeez man. I mean, are any of the class names the least bit special anyways? We’ve got thieves and engineers and warriors. Why are we only just now calling out the generic-ness of these class name?

I’m with Tolmos 100%. I’ve been playing thief since release and I’ve never had the problems you’re talking about but still, this is something I’m sure all physical projectile users are used too. It’s part of the game’s realistic approach imo. You really have to use skill to line up your shots. Sometimes you can’t just target and spam unload to victory. You need at least some level of positioning and skill. Outside of bows/guns though I’ve never had any problems hitting my target.

Profession: Thief
Traited: Glass Cannon (25/30/0/15/0)
Gear: Full exotics/ascended (Berzerker’s) D/D & Shortbow (although I bring a sword and p/p just in case)
Experience: None outside of video guides
Time: Almost always on in the afternoon (after 1-2ish pm Central)
Other: I just need some help getting started with Arah and some cool people to dungeon with. I’m willing to bring any utilities the group needs.

Fun leveling build?

I went for the typical Signet build but switched the GS/axe out for the hammer. Hammer is ridiculously fun imo. The autoattack is on par if not better than the GS and has an amazing AoE finisher. It has awesome knockdown/knockback Really useful when enemies hit a little harder or you want to control a large group. I’d carry a GS or axe/axe just in case you want to dish out some concentrated dps or w/e but the hammer should help you mix it up a bit.
