Windows update breaking GW2

Hey, ty for the reply. That seemed to have worked and fixed all of the issues with the other programs as well.

Not sure why I didn’t remember this command, but when I was running the windows troubleshooter for the executable, it was all like ‘program is incompatible’, so I made an assumption that it was a windows update that caused the issue (since I had just updated), the update probably got corrupted or something. In anycase, it works now. Thanks for the help.

Windows update breaking GW2

NekotTheBrave.2013

So I just found out today, after updating my computer, that GW2 will no longer run natively on Windows 8.1, it must be put into Windows 8 compatibility mode in order to even get the launcher to load up.

This isn’t just GW2 though, it seemed to happen to other games as well, and not for other games too… For example, Guild Wars 1 runs just fine without compatibility mode.

Just FYI if anybody is experiencing problems with this recently. I was pretty frustrated and was almost considering wiping/reloading my computer because of the latest update.

Better keep new content focused on multiplayer, it is not a single player game after all.

GW1 was pretty much a solo game.

whats the lore behind revenant?

From what we know, Rytlock is the first Revenant. He returns from the mists a changed Charr. From what I’ve read is people hear about Rytlock, then start learning to become Revenant themselves. I don’t see Rytlock as much of a teacher, so I don’t know how people are supposed to follow in his footsteps…

Basically you can sum it up to “You are Revenant, because video game.”

I imagine you as a character emerge from the Mists like Rytlock did.

seems like a butt pull. class just came outta nowhere. i like to keep my good written story anet. I can handle the syvari are bad guys recon, but idk about this since theres no story.

For one, they seem to be related to Rytlock coming back from the Mists.

That’s all about we know so far: "A revenant is someone who returns from a long absence, often from death or in a supernatural way. "

Mordrem Guard and the Nightmare Court

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NekotTheBrave.2013

NekotTheBrave.2013

She was fighting pact soldiers next to Mordrem including a corrupted troll. It was in the same scene.

I didn’t say she was united with Mordremoth. That’s why I used the word “supporting”. Maybe Mordremoth isn’t even aware of her and she just uses the chaos to her advantage.

Also we see Faolain lifting up the guy she just impaled which turns into the eye of Mordremoth accompanied with the dragon’s roar. As if she’s giving him as an “offer” to Mordremoth.

It’s very likely Faloin and the Nightmare Court are going to support Mordremoth in one way or another. Whether it’s solely to help the dragon or for their own goals remains to be seen.

Maybe that wasn’t a pact soldier she was killing, maybe that was actually a Mordrem’s guard?

Deaths in core game

NekotTheBrave.2013

Yeah, i don’t see why they can’t add it in to the core game for people that have got HoT. Most people that will be playing HoT will have already played the core game. So if anything it would add to the game and give us a reason to go back to the core game and its maps and look at them from a different perspective.

I really don’t see the harm in it. it would almost be a reward or bonus for get HoT.

It would require time and resources to redo all of the collision meshes in all of the levels to accompany gliding.

Why is their tax?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NekotTheBrave.2013

NekotTheBrave.2013

The tax is based off of where you live, it’s mandatory sales tax.

I live in texas, so it’s $8.75 for a $100 purchase.
I used to live in mississippi and there was no sales tax.

Yay, you figured out your own answer. Please stop complaining as this isn’t the final content. This content is to test (aka beta) and for new players to get their feet wet. Most players are trying something “new” to them.

It’s warranted feedback.

Racial Abilities!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

NekotTheBrave.2013

I mean this isn’t something like one race gets magic bonus, another gets archery ect meaning if you go X class you must go Y race or be kitten, even if its a slight kitten .

I think I’d like to be kitten, even if it’s only a slight kitten.

But yeah, I get what you mean. I mean, PVE (not PVM or PVD) wouldn’t be ‘unbalanced’ if each ‘home race’ got some special stuff (maybe like additional movement speed?) on their home turf.

Druid better be something special

NekotTheBrave.2013

Everyone keeps talking about the viability of the long bow on ranger but sword/torch, axe/dagger condi survival trapper eats them alive. And a lot of other popular builds for that matter. Great on point with settlers and not too bad with rabid or carrion, either. Also healing spring is pretty kitten underrated in group fights… A water field and constant regen/cleanse application over 10 seconds? With burning being how awesome it is right now the condi builds shine brightly for rangers. Abandon your long bows, mates!

We’ll be abandoning them for staves.

It’s currently being acknowledged within the Ranger community (perhaps not by all, but certainly by a noticeable number) that this could be the make-or-break for the Ranger. For me, I think even if Druid is underwhelming I’ll still play it just because it’s always been my favourite archetype in MMOs.

This perfectly illustrates my issue surrounding how Rangers are discussed on the forums. The class isn’t ideal, but it is fun, at least for me. If it isn’t fun, then why are you playing it? Are you some kind of sick gaming masochist?

You see all of this hyperbolic rhetoric about how “broken” the profession is (there are bugs, and pet AI can be improved, but it is far from “broken”), with some even complaining that it is unplayable, but these people still play (and presumably have fun with) it.

So no, if you are going to continue to play Ranger if you don’t like Druid, it’s not make-or-break. It could be a disappointment to you based on your expectations, but you’ve already indicated that it is still worth playing despite an underwhelming Druid.

So stop QQing and just play the kitten game…

Please tell me what part of my thread is QQing? I’m not expressing personal opinion over the “make-or-break” case, I’m presenting the vibe from the Ranger community. At worst I’m putting forward a pessimistic outlook for what could be the case upon the release of the Druid, and the less-than-optimal conditions leading to its reveal. I have nowhere in this thread moaned about it though.

I don’t think there is a ranger community. There are probably tens of thousands of people who play rangers. Many are quite happy with them. I main a ranger, and I’m quite happy. It’s my favorite profession in the game. I don’t seem to have the issues you do.

Maybe the ranger “community” is smaller than you think.

You obviously don’t play competitively.

Map completion rewards + renown hearts

NekotTheBrave.2013

To be honest, I’d like some new renown hearts for the expansion as well as map completion rewards for 100% completion of the map.

There wasn’t any of this for the Silverwastes, or Dry Top and I was kind of disappointed in that regard (but the areas are still fun).

I haven’t been able to play the beta weekends yet (was at Defcon during the first one), but I hope there’s some of this stuff during the beta weekend event this weekend. I’d love to see this again.

New Armors, not Outfits in HoT

NekotTheBrave.2013

Didn’t they add Carapace and Luminescent armor during the Living Story for ‘free’ (relatively)?

We’re paying $50 (more or less) for this and this is all that they can ‘give us’? I mean, we’ll still have to earn it, but there’s not much to go for

For example, in factions, we were able to purchase like 5 or 6 different ELITE armors for our particular class. Even more (for some classes) in Nightfall. Like 10 or so in EoTN.

People want to look pretty and they want to be cool and show off their accomplishments and stuff. Let us at least do that.

Ranger Pets

NekotTheBrave.2013

I like the idea of the new pets, but not of taming the mordrem wolf.

This is specifically because the mordrem wolf is actually a plant and a minion of mordremoth; this kind of means that it’s like pure evil and un-tamable.

HoT : what do recieve core classes ?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NekotTheBrave.2013

NekotTheBrave.2013

The core classes get…access to their Elite specializations.

ArenaNet doesn’t like adding random skills to existing classes without form or structure. They tried* that in the base game and found that it didn’t really jive with them. The problems they had with trying to introduce new skills/traits/weapons/whatevers in the base game is the reason elite specs came about in the first place.

Now, the existence of elite specs doesn’t necessarily mean that the base classes are done being balanced, or that skill adjustments/replacements will never happen, but I wouldn’t expect any major additions to the base classes outside of a new elite spec. If that was in the cards, they wouldn’t really be sinking as much time as they are into the elite specs system in the first place.

Ostensibly we’ll be receiving follow-up elite specializations much more frequently than once every three years, as ArenaNet claims that they don’t need to release an expansion to release a new elite spec…but, well, pretty much everyone here is of the opinion, “Yeah, sure guys. We’ll believe it when we see it.”

*if you consider one set of new heal skills and the clearly event-specific gimmick skill Antitoxin Spray to be trying, anyways. I’m ambivalent on that front.

It might not have jived with them, but it sure as hell jived with me. To be honest, I’d much rather play ‘Skill Wars 2’ than this game, but unfortunately this is the game we got and I’ve got to stick with that because I really like the lore and am looking forward to continuing the ‘story’.

I’m hoping that the new elite skills will be something interesting. I rarely use them because for whatever reason they thought that having a 3-5 minute cooldown was appropriate for this game.

Rangers and Engis shafted

You do realize there is a saying in each of the other class forums

“at least we aren’t rangers”

You think other classes have a broken class mechanic as rangers do?
Why do you think Ranger CDI was the first? because it requires the most rework due to the fact its been broken for 3+ years. Other classes haven’t had problems dealing with a broken class mechanic and completely mediocre builds since GW2 was released.
Yes other classes do complain, most about balancing and asking for more variety in their builds….rangers have that AND broken classmechanic/countless bugs SINCE BETA

You need to stop acting as if majority of the ranger population is happy

Majority of them are also bearbow casuals since most of the good players have switched classes.. You think these bearbow casuals care or even know what the bugs are and whats broken? No. pew pew pew.

How often do you see rangers in high rank MMR team que or world tournaments?
They have been below avg to mediocre in most areas of this game. If you are “happy” with that, so be it. Others aren’t. Stop speaking for rangers. You clearly haven’t played this class long enough to realize what the problems are.

I’ve been playing a Ranger since the pre-release/early access/whatever stuff. It’s really a mediocre class overall. I’m having a little bit more fun with it now than I used to (kind of lost interest in favor of a regen warrior build for a while), but that’s probably because I’m super hyped about the Druid class, despite the fact that I only know that they use a staff.

I mainly play PVE/PVM and some WvW. I’ve never played PvP and don’t intend to because it feels like it would be rather unforgiving and walled off to crappy noobs like me; I get enough “‘Dude, you are like rlly bad’, ‘Like rlly bad’” in WvW already.

Generally, in PVE/PVM/Dungeons/WvW I’m always the last person alive, and I feel that’s generally because the class doesn’t really have any support capabilities/useful skills so I can focus less on skill management and more on trying to do damage and not dying.

Druid Spec BWE #2

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NekotTheBrave.2013

NekotTheBrave.2013

IIRC, The Druid spec was the first elite specialization ANet revealed (On April 23rd possibly before). Why is it that it’s still broken/unplayable and won’t be shown in the next Beta Weekend Event right next to all of the other class e-specs that will be available?

I get the reason why the Engineer e-spec won’t be available (for one, it’s not even been revealed yet). But the Druid was literally the first e-spec that you revealed and… well it’s a little disappointing that priorities were elsewhere, despite having more time to work on it.

Looking over the older documents, maybe the Druid class hasn’t actually been announced/revealed yet, I haven’t been able to actually find an article on it (other than mentions), there’s definitely not been a ‘meet the druid’ yet, though I seem to recall this for whatever reason.
