Best way to obtain karma?

in Players Helping Players

I remember the good old days when you’d get jugs from dailies and monthlies.

Nowadays, I’m trying to get my obsidian shards for my second legendary and finding it pretty hard. I’ve racked up about 210k in a month and IMO this is pretty slow.
I’m been running champ trains, EOTMs and all that.
However, apart from this what other efficient ways to obtaining karma is there? What are some great activities/event/chains to do to get some heavy karma?

Cheers

Last few questions ;P
it seems ascended armor was also released, are those worth getting?
Also, in regards to LS2, can you only do ’em after you completed your own personal storyline?

Thanks

Champion Trains, anyone?

Hey,
as a returning player, I’m wondering is champion trains are still a thing? Back then, Queensdale champ trains were fun to do and very profitable. However, I see that Queensdale no longer has these, are Champ trains still a thing? If so, where’d everyone go?

So people migrated to DR and Rata? Man…
and what’s this about Megaservers? Are zones shared across servers now, no way!

Hey everyone,
As a returning player coming back to Guild Wars 2, needless to say Ive missed a lot of stuff. I’m making this thread in request for some kind people to just outline what major changes I’ve missed.
I stopped playing actively at around Scarlet’s release, sometime last year. The last Living World I could remember is Queen’s Jubelie (or however its spelt). Obviously one such change is Lion’s Arch, which, if I may ask, where did everyone go? One of the more fond memories I had was socialising in Lion’s Arch in front of the Bank, now it’s all migrated? So where did everyone go? o.o

any help would be appreciated

So... Precursor prices

It’s relatively easy to calculate the rough price a precursor should go for based on the chances of acquiring one via the mystic forge. I will use myself as an example, I am currently trying to acquire a precursor for quip: a chaos gun.

At a 0.2-0.5% rate of creation (let’s assume 0.2% for purposes of this discussion) it will take an average of 500 combinations to result in a precursor. Assuming ~ 25s a rare (and 4 rares for combining = 200 rares) that would be 1 gold per combination. Now since combining is an iterative process whereby every 4 combinations we get 1 additional combination (and we may also generate uniques that can be resold for a profit or recombined) let’s say we will only need 1500 rares on average to generate a chaos gun. 1500 × .25 = 375. The current price to outright by a chaos gun on the AH is around 350, I put in a substantively lower bid because I was making some conservative assumptions (i.e. that the generation rate is on the low end, bad luck, etc)….

Ultimately if I have to pay up to 350-375 for a chaos gun I am not going to be angry, because I think that accurately reflects its value. Do these calculations for yourself when you are pricing a precursor, if the amount cost is double or treble the amount you calculate, you are better of hitting the mystic forge, if it is around the price you calculate (chaos gun is a good example because the pricing tracks very well with the expected value) then paying for it is a better option to avoid the RNG risks. Also note my math here is very rough, I assume the folks playing the precursor market have it down to a real science.

I would say there are real market opportunities right now on the more expensive precursors. The problem is the RNG may completely screw you over after investing thousands of gold.

kitten , can’t believe I missed something so obvious, precursor prices fluctuating as a dependant of Rare and exotic prices! Guess that’s something else I’d have to pay attention to, cheers!

Dawn - hold or sell

I suppose this could apply to generally any of the popular precursors … but is it woth cashing out now or holding on to them longer and waiting for them to go up?

I kinda wanna pick up a Foefire weapon.

I’d sell while you still can, when precursor crafting is out and new legendaries are released, your dawn will plummet.
I’m not saying this because Dawn is the last item I need to finish my Sunrise, definitely not…

Can totally relate OP, haven’t stopped doing dailies since I ding’d 80, after the recent Karma nerf and getting my Gift of Mastery and Gift of Fortune, I had no more motivation to do them anymore. Ascended trinkets are just not enough to get me to go out and do them

So... Precursor prices

Neriglissar.8730

So for those of you who didn’t know, the update at the end of August(or the update before) caused the majority, if not all, precursor prices to inflate drastically. As someone who was going for Sunrise, Dawn shot up from 450 to 690 in 1 or 2 hours.
When I finally got 450g a few days ago, I realised I had to grind out 200 more gold in order to get Dawn. Not to mention, on top of all that, Ectos skyrocketed from 18g to 30+g in the recent update, and I need about 500 of ‘em.
So my question would be, do any of you know when precursor prices will be going down? I can’t bring myself to grind out another 200g, and precursor prices doesn’t seem to be going down, whenever it goes down 10 or 20g, someone buys it and the price goes up again.
I know when the Precursor crafting update hits, the precursor prices will go down, but honestly, that’s not going to be anytime soon… will it?

Where to farm karma now?

In the situation we are in right now, it’s not efficient to only rely on karma to obtain shards. Personally, I run fractals, daily and a few champion rotations each day. That way I can get shards from all three sources.
If you’re keen on just going for karma, all I can say is run karma boosts, and go champion rotations in Queensdale or join a WvW zerg train

Obsidian Shards farming

As said above, BBs can no longer be traded in for shards, so your best bet would be with fractals and laurels, and to be honest, none of them are fast. A complete fractal run would give you 4/5 shards. As for laurels, do dailies and monthlies I guess. A-Net slowed down shard progression considerably with the last karma nerf.

Why was Karma income nerfed by ~90%?

Possible fix: Add a 0 to the end of successful event’s Karma reward.
20-400 becomes 200-4000.

That’s way too much, What A-Net had before was fine IMO, but they just went too far trying to nerf it, people who played for a few months with no clear karma goal would end up with a mountain of unused karma. I understand what they were going for nerfing the jugs, but they went too far by making the daily amount too low for people needing them and removing dungeon karma completely, thus making the karma progress slow as hell compared to before.

Lack of karma!

I feel your pain OP, getting shards was the last thing I needed for my legendary. Right now I’m just finding different methods of purchasing shards since event karma right now has always been atrocious. I forced myself to play fractals, which yields about 4/5 shards for one run, which took me about 1-2 hours. I also started spending some laurels on shards as well, just trying to muster up whatever resources I can.

Karma nerf

Easy fix for ANet:

Drastically increase the amount of karma you get from succeeding in events.

Reduce the karma gained from fail events (if any earned at all).

Now everyone has a reason to WANT events to succeed!

It’s a great idea, and A-net acted upon that, well half of it anyway.
They nerfed the amount of Karma you get from failing events, but didn’t buff the amount of Karma gained from succeeding events

For a long time we had a lot of karma and it was good. People had so many they needed conversion by Orrian boxes so we could make some gold from it.
Yet there was another great thing about it.
Orrian temples armors which had some hard to get stat combos like prec/though/con.dmg or power/vit/though were in there.

Now after the nerf we just have to grind karma through events for many hours cause there is no way one can spend months waiting for an armor (and you could get one after like 1 month of dailies with monthly before) good way getting karma for those 2 combos that are great on necro and guardian and they can’t be crafted.

Also doing all daily for a 600 karma (less than 1/10 of jug which is like ~6500) is a joke compared to getting the same amount in mini-games that is accurate for them. No karma in at end of a dungeon and champ boxes. Karma nerf hurts even more in doing dailies when you don’t really need laurels anymore. Daily just loses almost all meaning.

I have to say that was a terible move…

I can’t agree more, I’m 250k short of my legendary. Doing daily and monthly and occasional dungeon runs were the only ways for me to get some decent karma. As a casual player, unless I continuously run world/WvW events over and over again, I’m stuck.

Tips on getting karma?

in Players Helping Players

Neriglissar.8730

Greetings fellow players! After the last patch, means of getting karma has been significantly reduced, seeing the Daily and Monthly liquid karma being reduced to 600, and the Dungeon completion Karma being completely removed, my normal sources of karma income have dissapeared.
As a result, doing events and WvW seems to be the only remaning decent way of getting some karma.
My question is, are there any other means of getting some karma? I only have a few hours a day to jump on everyday, so doing Daily and Monthly achievements were my ideal source of karma, now I’m 250k short of my legendary and there just doesnt seem to be any other way of gaining karma quickly and efficiently, any help would be appreciated!
