Yeah I have mine too – agony infusion above resistance +5 is now available with new infusions.

Who else remembers all the lies from ANET about not introducing gear grind.

The latest patch update of 26th November includes changes around Agony resistance and infusions, but it’s not clear what it actually means.

“All infused ascended equipment now has a special infusion slot for Agony Resistance infusions”
All my ascended items had an infusion slot already. Does this mean there will now be two infusion slots, with one of them specifically reserved for Agony Resistance and the other reserved for whatever infusion we care to put in?
Will this be applied retrospectively to existing ascended equipment?

“All existing, infused ascended equipment has a +5 Agony Resistance infusion in the Agony Resistance slot by default, in place of the natural +5 Agony Resistance”
What is a “natural +5 Agony Resistance”
My equipment includes fine infusions that have +5 agony resistance. Is that affected in some way?

“Artificers can combine two identical Agony Resistance infusions with a Thermocatalytic Reagent to create a single, more powerful Agony Resistance infusion.”
What happens to the Fine infusions I have that already come with agony resistance?

Also, does this mean that new ascended items as of this update can now become more powerful (i.e. have greater agony resistance) than the already existing ascended equipment?

Sorry guys but the explanations around this bit of the upgrade is really confusing.

“No So Secret” for me. Not because of the jumping which, while challenging, is not the toughest out there.

It’s the dive at the end that kills me. Literally! Despite trying it a number of times I always die. Stupid design that!

Standard lag and d/c

Each time new content comes out, for the next few days where there are lots of people on the same map, the lag and d/c kicks in regular as clockwork. After a while as people zone out it goes away. It’s very tiresome.

I know the business case probably won’t be there to fund fixing this (new servers?) but you could tune the load balancers to deal with it better maybe?

Nice to see that as soon as this content has come out and lots of people are on the same map the lag issue is back. Fixed that one then ANET eh? Not…

Of course I don’t know yet whether there is any mega-event like the disastrous (from a lag/dc perspective) Tequatl that made it basically impossible to achieve apart from the lucky few.

And got pet panel working

I had to delete and re-create my ranger. Then I charmed another pet but didn;t manually open the pet panel at all.

A few minutes later I got the hint.

Got the Pet Swap hint to work following other posts:

1) Order your pet to attack something.
2) Let it “die”.
3) Kill the monster.
4) As pet is “ressing” itself (the red bar is regenerating), wait for hint to appear, then press F4 to switch to the other pet.

This worked for me.

Talyn, I didn’t say I couldn’t do it (in fact I have completed the maps to 100% and done all four JP’s). I just didn’t enjoy the experience the way I do with PVE.

As for a neutral reporting enemy movements, yes I can see that might be an issue but, frankly, I have never seen anything very organised in WvW apart from zergs and they are hard to miss…! But my experience with WvW is slight so I could be wrong.

We know there are those who like WvW/PvP and those who don’t. Personally I like PVE.

If I want the satisfaction of getting all the JP’s I have to go into WvW and have to suffer the pain of other players who enjoy killing me.

That may be uproariously funny for those who enjoy PvP but for me, who doesn’t, it’s just tedious and annoying. To spend an hour getting to the final location and then get downed by enemy PvP’ers who are camped at it adds nothing to game enjoyment for me.

It’s a similar story for the POI’s and Vista’s where I have to join in and help take castles to be able to get in. I don’t enjoy PvP, therefore I don’t enjoy taking part on those events, but I have to if I want to get world map coverage.

Could we have a “neutral” status in WvW where no points are gained for downing and where castles are open? Or even better an invulnerable status – to allow for those PvP’ers who would attack just for what they consider to be fun?

Vayne, yes of course there was a level of grind, but are you really comparing those in GW1 with the ‘achievements’ in GW2 or the acquisition of legendary items? They are worlds apart. On top of that is the soulbound mechanic which means you can’t choose to play for gold and buy your way through, you actually have to go do it. Personally I believe allowing different paths to achieve the same goal is a good idea.

Who remembers “Adam and the Ants”? They started as a hard core punk band who betrayed their cult following by going mainstream for the money. That’s what happened with GW. The original GW1 much-stated core philosophy was ‘community play’ and ‘no grind’. Then came hero’s then came grinding.

Guys… ANET is a business and it’s in it for the money… Period… Get over it.

The GW1 hero’s meant anyone could do almost everything solo, the GW2 blandness between classes mean anyone can do GW2 alone, and the grinding meant more people staying for longer. It’s all about the money. So if you have any complaints / suggestions, make them useful in the context of ANET being a business.

But it’s not all bad. I used to watch with awe as GodlikeSatan solo’d the toughest dungeons in GW1. Now I watch Strife and team. But for the mere mortals among us we still have to join a group to do a dungeon, and that was not the case in the last years of GW1 with hero’s. So ANET have reintroduced something they lost in GW1. We’ll done ANET.

Personally, I hate the blandness between classes so that any class can do anything apart from dungeons. Hey, ANET, if dungeons do have to be done in teams then add specialist skills that only work with balanced teams.

Personally, I hate the real-money gouging that is sometimes so painfully obvious – anyone finished SAB without an infinite coin? But thats life and thats business.

Personally, there’s a number of things I hate about GW2. But I’m still playing the game, and so are you…

Things have improved, but it’s still not fully working – it goes through the paypal purchase process (so paypal thinks it has worked) but on return to the guild wars 2 site it now says “An error occurred finalizing your purchase.” Credit card purchase also still fails.

Is there a problem with the gem store at the moment (last 5 hours)? I am trying to buy gems but am getting:

1) Usually the Gem store tab connection fails – I just get a blank TP screen

2) I have managed to occasionally get in but on those occasions when I try to purchase via PayPal I get: “We are not able to process your payment using your PayPal account at this time. Please return to the merchant’s website and try using a different payment method (if available).”

3) On hose occasions when I have got in and tried to purchase by a credit card that also fails. I have checked with my credit card company and they have not refused any payment requests.

First, thanks for all the tips guys, I managed to do it… yay! But…

Note this tip – stand back after killing him because he sometimes likes to take you down with him by glitching you through the floor if you’re too close, killing you.

That happened to me. I then had to fight my way back through the lilly pads and didn’t manage it before the timer ran out.

So I didn’t get the chest or, it would seem, the achievement!

You’re probably right. ANET is a business, they aren’t going to fund servers to manage the peak load that happens at these events as the events are occasional. But it also means

1) They haven’t designed their load balancing right – the number of people doesn’t change, only where they are concentratted

2) The people who design the events are ignoring the fact the hardware can’t cope with the load

I got all excited a few minutes ago, I finally got into my home server! Yay!

Only to discover there were no people there. None at all. But it didn’t take long to realise it was in the process of d/c’ing me, which happened about 5 minutes later.

Sigh…

Personally I love this content, I know others don’t, but I do.

The only things broken about it are guesting, overflows, and afk’s. Everything else is perfect. No wait – I also forgot the lag and d/c problem for some everytime the event starts up. Unfortunately the problem parts make it unplayable for me, I’m one of the lucky ones who gets d/c’d every time the dragon lands.

Does ANET have any intention of addressing these issues?

I’m sitting here in overflow having waited for more than an hour to get into my home instance with no luck, listening to my mates on TS. And I can hear them complaining about the AFK’s. There must be a way round this, two would be:
- Give preference to people on their home instance to those guesting
- Kick after a short period of inactivity when in or close to the dragon appearing

And please please sort out the server load management. There is nothing more frustrating than waiting an hour only to get d/c’d once the action starts. I have had to go through that experience three times in a row now – all is fine then as soon as the dragon lands I get d/c’d.

The event/content is great ANET but please make sure your systems can handle the load before putting this sort of thing out again.

I with the OP. We’re not all students, some of us have families and jobs but if we want to get the achievements we somehow need to find 2-3 hours just for this zone. It’s too much when it’s actually not needed and it could have been split into two. The content is great, just give those of us who work a chance to get it.

I know there will be those out there who say they did it in 4 seconds using just a wooden spoon. I’m not really talking to them…

And while I’m about it… New events every two weeks is fantastic, but leave it available for longer – for the same reasons.

Question for ANET… Who was the genius decided designing IN disneyworld style queueing was a good idea – you know, queue for 1.5 hours for a 3 minute ride?

I just sat there like a lump in Queen’s Gauntlet for maybe an hour with my little red symbol showing I’m waiting for my turn… and then I got kicked for inactivity and lost my place!

Great design guys. Deserve a medal for that one.

Oh wait, maybe it could be an achievement! A new and innovative type of grind – Queueing!

Same here, started with Aetherblade JP update.

I’m on GMT, it’s a constant problem between 18:56 and 20:04 every weekday. Outside that time it’s fine.

Oh, and I could raise a ticket but if I do a google search for “guild wars 2 lag problem aetherblade” I get 135,000 hits. It probably doesn’t need another ticket.

Don’t bother. If you check the forums there a range of threads on this. ANETs only response is submit a ticket. Search google for “guild wars 2 lag problems” and you will get 3,310,000 hits. But ANET are saying nothing.

Anyway, without trying to be an kitten , mine’s predictable – 18:58 through 20:04 every weekday, but only when I’m in the new JP. So at least I know when / where not to try and play. Maybe yours will be predictable?

So two weeks on from ANETs last message saying they tweaked a few things and still many people are raising this same issue. So that tweak didn’t work then…

The fact that two weeks on ANET have not commented reflects ANETs support philosophy…

I get the same, but Only if I go into a heavily populated region, like the Not So Secret JP right now. If I open a different char who is in a different region I don’t get the problem. This is repeatable.

If the servers are set up to deal with different regions and the one with the Not So Secret JP is mega busy, while other regions are not so busy, then that would explain why I get the problem only in certain locations

Wow, what a long thread, and yet no-one has really discussed the core point… M O N E Y.

Think about last Xmas. We had the events and, oddly enough, you couldn’t get enough mats to build all the Xmas mini’s – it was impossible to do. Then, suddenly, you could buy those other mini’s with real world money…

Do all the philosophising you like about GW1, GW2, WoW, EVE, etc but at the end of the day it comes down to PROFIT. Whether that’s crass gouging like the Xmas mini’s or more subtle distinctions around gameplay, cult versus puberty, grind versus whatever.

GW1 started with two USP principles – no grind, and community play. GW2 tries to retain aspects of these but at the same time tries to be pop rather than cult, to gather the masses. Jack of all, master of none… Such is life, get over it. IMHO GW2 will last for a while but its philosophy of money gouging plus confused cult and/or mass appeal mean it will stall and fall by the wayside.

ANET needs to decide what their core principles are (what revenue streams are they really going to chase?) and focus on those.

Oh, and while I’m at it, ANET needs better designers. The orrian god statues? People don’t do the temples because they’re hard, take loads of people, and don’t provide any real reward. ANET threw their collective dummies in the corner and installed god statues which mean you have to do the temples to get the whole map (e.g. not being able to get skill points because you’re getting beaten on every 3 seconds). Wrong answer. Make the temples more attractive to do.

Of course the god statues are a late addition. Why? Because the temples are hard and offer little reward, so there’s not enough people on the map interested in doing them (particularly on these maps where you can’t scratch your bum without 60,000 mobs jumping you). So ANET threw their collective dummies in the corner and put the god statues in – now you have to do the temples if you want to get 100% on the map, or get the skill points (you know, that one you can’t get while getting beaten by the 3-sec effect?). And frankly, it’s just tedious.

The right answer is not the god statues – that’s an approach for people who can’t design anything better – the right answer is to make the temples more interesting.
