Well I haven’t played in over a year. I have an 80 Warrior and a 60 Mesmer. I was looking to play through the game with a very different gameplay style that’s why I thought about about conditions.
What kind of damage dominates in the current meta?
I want the class which best deals damage with conditions. I thought it would be Necro but I have heard that’s not the case so what is my best bet?
I know some will suggest to rebind them but when I am in tight spots I press every button except the one I intended to. Like if I try to use my heal in Q I press Tab, 1, A, W it happens so often and that’s just with something in Q.
I wanted to try Mesmer/Ele but I can’t for the life of me press Blink, Decoy etc. in the time I need them. I have to either try to click, which means I lose control of the camera or I have to stop moving, look at the keyboard and use my left hand to press the button.
What classes are suggested with my handicap?
I wish I was able to use utility skills. Unfortunately my fingers aren’t that skilled.
Is it fair to say you can’t perform well on a Mesmer without heavy use of utility skills?
Well I guess I won’t make a Necro after all. I thought I would be proved wrong but the positive instances were Necro can shine seem situational.
Better than other professions of course? What do they excel at? Because the last time I asked to some 80 Necros in game I was told they are not the best at anything. Other classes stack conditions better and Ele is better in AoE damage, they said.
I’m tight on room to try new professions. How would I know if playing engineer would be fun for me? Can you describe as plainly as possible what an engineer playstyle is like and what they bring to the table in dungeons/pvp etc?
And in high level content? DPS or utility? Why are they one of the three top wanted classes for these kind of things?
This is my first and only 80. Should I start trying to farm in Orr with Magic Find gear for gold? I’ve never done WvW or PvP. I want to have Twilight. I have 5 gold. Suggestions appreciated.
Can you rank the professions from easiest to hardest in terms of ease of use effectively? Thanks in advance.
Until you stop having fun with it
I thought of that but that’s exactly why I made this topic. It’s not fair to judge a class too soon if perhaps trying something at a later time will make me enjoy it more.
I’m torn between Thief, Necro and Guardian. What to do :S
I am coming back after an 8 month break and I am trying to pick a new class. Around which level would be enough to tell if a class is for me? Like around what level will I have seen what a Necro plays like to decide if I should try something else or keep going?
The last time i played was in Halloween. Has any profession been updated/fixed/overhauled since then?
I am considering playing again but not if only Warrior/Thief/Guardian are still owning everything. Is Necro strong now by any chance?
When I was playing last I read a post by a dev team member that fixes were coming to Ranger. Did they came through?
Can you tell me how one differs from the other? Compare them in different areas like DPS, PvP, PvE, difficulty to use each one effectively? Thanks in advance.
Which one requires more utility skill/button presses to play effectively in PvP?
I meant weak by Warrior standards. A Warrior can put up numbers the Guardian can only dream of from what I have seen.
Everyone I have talked to agrees there’s nothing a Ranger can do that another class cannot do better.
Which is better?
I know next to nothing about Engineers. It’s the only class I have never considered but now I am because it seems like every class I want to play is weak (Ranger, Necro, Guardian). I like to DPS and I already have an 80 Warrior but I want to do well in PvP and PvE not one or the other.
So can you guys tell me the strengths and weaknesses of Engineer and what they excel at that other professions can’t do as well?
No need to mash ‘1’, that is autocast when set.
1)Target
2)Hit ‘1’
3)???
4)ProfitSnark aside, what is with wanting ‘an easy’ character to level? Are you playing purely to level toons or to experience the game? This mindset is very different from mine so I’m curious as to the drive behind it.
It’s not that I want to play easy profession. It’s just that I have no choice. My fingers can’t reach the 6 to 0 skills and even if I try to set them to other buttons my fingers can’t press like Z X C and move/dodge at the same time. I really don’t see how people do it without a gaming mouse or keyboard.
I wish I could use more demanding classes though.
It definitely is odd to say the least that abilities that currently exist in the game have not already been fixed. It’s not like they need to rebalance anything. Just make them work like they should.
Also, I am in awe at the lack of a response on the Ranger SB issue. It has been proven with video evidence that the SB was nerfed and the attack speed reduced much more than ANet claimed. The worst part is that it was supposed to be an animation fix? If they overdid it by mistake how much programming does it really take to increase the speed to the intended value? If they were gonna nerf it at least come out and say it. I don’t play Ranger but that kind if practice really rubbed me the wrong way.
I love the Necro concept but in actuality the class is a mess and they are not the only ones. There are so many classes that render others obsolete. We’ll see what happens in the next few days… I would have much preferred to have 100% working classes than some Halloween cash-grab..
I already have an 80 Warrior. Is there any other class?
Which classes don’t require a lot of 6-0 presses and can still be played effectively? Thanks.
In your personal opinion which is better and why?
Is the gameplay different enough to make the leveling process with both classes feel fresh from one another? I have a warrior almost at 80 and I’m considering Thief as secondary.
It’s one of the more viable necromancer specs, don’t expect any huge buffs to it. That being said, it’s not the strongest condition spec around.
We’re balanced around the fact that we can throw conditions on us back at foes, as a result our damage output is pretty limited. Bleeds and that’s all, the poison is very short in duration unlike the Engineer or Ranger’s. If all darts hit on the Engineer’s pistol one, it’ll typically cause 6s of poison, the skill has a 10s CD. The Ranger’s poison volley depending on how many arrows hit, can also cause a decent length poison. Don’t even bother with comparing Thieves’ spider venom, with venomshare it’s ridiculous.
Barbed Precision is also extremely weak, the bleed is a 1s bleed meaning not even having +duration will really help it. Rangers are also in the same boat with a 1s bleed crit. Engineers get a 3s bleed on crit AND a 2s burn on crit. Mesmers take the cake with all illusions causing 5s bleeds on crit with Burns coming out 1/3 of their staff auto attacks. They also can transfer conditions back to other people like Necromancers though only with one skill.
Necromancers are good against other condition specs, that’s its niche right there to counter other DoT spammers; but it generally ends up not getting anywhere with specs that have a lot of removals. Even worse if it’s one running direct damage and removals, that means not only is your damage output pretty low, you really don’t have damaging conditions to redirect, only negative effects.
Yes, this is exactly what most people tell me about Necros in Lion’s Arch. Which sort of makes rolling a Necro seem pointless at the moment. That’s why I was hopeful Anet would have said something about making sure Necros have the strongest condition build out of all classes like their concept seems to imply. Allow them to have more than 25 or stacks or allow their conditions to crit or something. Oh well. I will look at other professions to make my alt.
Well I can’t speak from personal experience since I haven’t done any PvP myself. But I have asked a lot of level 80s in Lion’s Arch and 99% agree that conditions builds are not good enough to be dominant in PvP because most people have condition removals and most importantly in the time it takes for conditions to actually start hurting, another profession can do as much or more damage in one or two skills in a fraction of the time it would have taken conditions.
Can anyone explain the main differences in gameplay between Warrior and Guardian?
Posted by: Noctis.2738
Can anyone who has played both Warrior and Guardian explain how they differ in terms of feel and gameplay? From my perspective of watching other players they seem to play very similar. So if anyone can enlighten me it would be appreciated.
As I understand it Rangers can stack bleed better than Necros and if that is Necro’s best build I am weary to give it a try in my search for a secondary character. Has Anet said anything about future condition improvements?
Can anyone explain the main differences in gameplay between Warrior and Guardian?

They seem almost the same but I have never played a Guardian. Can someone who has played both professions enlighten me on the differences in the feel and gameplay? Thanks.
I currently have a 51 Warrior. I am looking to make an alt because Warrior has gotten quite boring. Will a Guardian feel similar to playing a Warrior?
No class in this game is limited to melee or ranged. Warrior or any class for that matter is NOT supposed to excel in any particular range except the one you enjoy most.
In your own personal opinion which one is better and why?
Is one of them conditions?
Or is summoning a must to do well in both PvE/P?
I wish I could find a profession that I would immediately feel like it’s for me.
Should I level every class I am interested in to 10? Or is there a better way to know? I currently have a 50 Warrior but it’s so boring right now. I have only tried Elementalist in the first BWE and I thought I would roll one but I don’t have the dexterity to use F1-4 on the fly as needed which I know is required to be a very good Ele. They were also nerfed.
I like classes that put up big numbers but I don’t think I can play a profession that needs to press F2 if this happens and a second later F4 if that happens etc. I don’t think I can micromanage like that.
Any tips would be appreciated.
I am considering trying one but I hear they are weak PvE. Any truth to this?
I’m in the process of making a new character and this input would be helpful.
Or is Signet still the best?
But how would a Necro fare in PvP with a condition build? Am I right in assuming other burst classes outclass it?
Since necros are basically warlocks under another name I’d say them.
Well a poster above said they are the worst currently because of the cap so I guess Necros are no good.
I’m playing a Warrior and I’m looking for a change of gameplay. I mainly enjoy high damage output burst or otherwise. Does Ranger fit this description?
Thanks for the replies. I used to think Necromancer was second to none in condition damage but it seems that is not the case. I was looking forward to playing a class similar to an Affliction Warlock in WoW.
My guess is that in this game burst damage will outclass a condition build, correct?
And is Condition Damage as good as other builds at the moment?
