yea they run the cash shop as if GW2 were a F2P game but it’s not.
They should have all cash shop content out at all times to maximize their profits.

It’s not often I have to make a topic like this one on a publisher’s site.

In a game I always try to look original, expressing myself through costumes and mixing armors etc.

What I noticed with GW2, the ’’costumes’’ for sale in the cash shop look absolutely horrible. I mean like really bad. Like they don’t even look like part of the game or something.

For a B2P game I expected a Gem Store full of interesting things (not p2w!). But a lot of costumes, weapon skins, facial costumes, awesome back costumes, wings, capes, jewelry! All sort of things to enhance an avatar’s look. But I find only a few ugly costumes right now.

Are there plans to release more costumes soon?
In the ’’outfit’’ menu through the hero panel I see a few costumes that are NOT in the gem store yet. Those are looking much MUCH better. Why are those not being released??

please change the leveling back, please

Hmm, but I am wanting a longterm MMO..
I dont mind investing time and money in a game but when I am ’’there’’ so to say and I am at endgame, fully geared, I do want something to DO.. like leading a Guild for example or tackling dungeons on hard more like GW1.

Sounds like it’s turning into more of a casual MMO to do while the other games you like are having weekly maintenance.

What this game really needs...

I think the list that you posted is very accurate, precize and exactly what most people want.

It’s also been shared with the publisher many times before. They don’t seem to really listen though. Instead they focus on points that nobody has ever brought up, like the ‘’downed state’’ being too confusing. :O

Hey guys,

I’m a returning player myself. I love the way the game looks and I love the gamestyle of it. They have done an outstanding job on the design.

Whenever I fully devote to a MMO I spend a lot of time and money on it.

This is what I intend to do with GW2.

However reading the recent forum topics and looking at the publisher’s recent decisions and changes to the game, I am finding myself facing a big question:
‘’Will this game change further into something ugly?’’
and
‘’Will this game still -be- there after 6-12 moths?’’ (thats how long I expect to take to be fully geared etc).

Because I don’t want to make a mistake I made with another game, where I heavily invested time and money in it and just as I was hitting endgame, the game closed.

Might-Why No Healing Power?

As a DPS you can choose to go all might and this 20 stack of might helps to boost you to the extreme.

It seems unfair that a player who’s chosing to sacrifice DPS over healing, and thus goes all healing/support should not have the chance to boost -his- choice.

If there will be no new content in the size of an expension within the coming year I fear GW2 will not recover.

GW1 had several expansions and yet the unofficial forums were full of doomsday posts like yours. It seems some things never change.

There are many great games being released left and right. All games are more ‘modern’ than GW2 and there will be a time where GW2 cannot compete with them anymore.

There#s nothing stopping you from playing those games.

Not a doomsday post at all. I am not one to post those things at all.
What I do see is that even though GW1 had big expansions, the doomsday posts didn’t go, which kind of proves the game survived otherwise no posts could have been made

Here with GW2 we pretty much know for sure the devs/publisher aren’t working on anything ’’big’’ so the doomsday posts aren’t just filled with thin air this time.

No, we should keep silent and hope Anet randomly stumbles upon bugs we are experiencing? That’s a brilliant idea, truly.

- If company policy is that they will only spend time fixing critical bugs for economic reasons, then you submitting bug reports and typing posts about lesser bugs is about as productive as praying for a miracle. Actually praying for a miracle probably takes less time and then you can move on with your life. I don’t know what’s wrong with the company. Poor management? Lack of long term vision? Financial troubles? Who knows? We are not in position to ask for them to do things. They don’t have a whole army of engineers just fiddling their thumbs and waiting your orders.

How nice to ignore the rest of my post and not respond to that

What Ohonis said makes a lot of sense. I applaud his post.

@Tolunart
When a ‘red’ pops in to look at the forums I’ve seen no such thing happening to him. No rotten eggs or tomatoes thrown, which is why i think the community we have active on these forums is an actual good one. Compare the community of GW2 to a community of any other F2P game and you’ll see how ugly an online community -can- get.

The GW2 community seems to be more mature and constructive. Of course you’ll always have some bad apples but the majority of these posters are responsible adults, knowing how to write a post that makes sense.

Without players there is no game. Without a ’’community’’ Anet couldn’t make money off the game and many people working for them would lose their jobs.

So threating the community with respect (and vice versa!) is important.

- No, I’m serious. You vote with your wallet what kind of games interest you. You vote with your time if you play this game or do something else. I’ve seen people write posts the size of essays in this forum every day. Apparently they seem to think that if you bring up your issues they’ll get fixed in patch. That’s not how this works, not at all.

No, we should keep silent and hope Anet randomly stumbles upon bugs we are experiencing? That’s a brilliant idea, truly.

I believe in construtive feedback, my friend. This entails that the community is constantly providing Anet the publisher with helpful feedback about the things they plan to implement. That makes Anet happy, when we’re happy and spending money and playing their game. It makes us happy when important things get fixed and new content gets rolled out. In short, if you communciate, everyone can benefit from it and everyone is happy.

Staying silent won’t solve a thing.

Well you’ve probably noticed the current resistance going on among your playerbase. People expecting you are working on big important things and when you finally break your silence and announce what you have planned for us, it turns out to be the exact opposite of what the majority of the players seem to want.

- You’re nuts if you think community is the one who’s calling shots here. This is Anet’s game. Go start your own company if you want things made differently.

That did make me laugh a little. Just a little

So let me get this straight…
The people on the forums are the small population and therefore its OKAY for Anet to ignore them? Every single one of us on these forums actually also bought the game and maybe spend money on the cash shop too.

No matter how small, every costumer should count. Otherwise what is the point of having a forum at all?

I would imagine they don’t want to reveal any early stage features in case they cause expectations, and then fail to deliver (ie, delays, scraped plans, etc) the less people know about long term plans, the less they expect, and the less things they have to become indignant about

Thats the other side of extreme though.
I’m suggesting a middle way.

A way where Anet informs their players whats on their working table and also a time when they gather feedback from players, to even better their already awesome product.
It is a win-win.

And this is why you should change your policy

Novalitus.7382

Trouble is that the noise is being made by a tiny minority of players who inhabit the forums. The vast majority who play don’t even come where and only hear about changes when they log in and then check wiki

I think with GW2 its different.
The playerbase is devoted to this game, so the forums are more active than on usual MMOs.

Novalitus.7382

Dear Anet,

You have said your policy is not to discuss the future plans you have with Guild Wars 2.
This is your choice and yours alone to make.

But I would strongly recommend being a bit more open about future plans and shed some light on things you are working on.

Why?

Well you’ve probably noticed the current resistance going on among your playerbase. People expecting you are working on big important things and when you finally break your silence and announce what you have planned for us, it turns out to be the exact opposite of what the majority of the players seem to want.

That is the danger and the risk you take when you enforce the current policy you have now. You see, had you been more open about your plans early on, the players would have given your feedback and you would not have made the mistakes you’ve made now with the feature pack of September.

So yes just a thought… maybe a change of policy is in order?

Thanks!

lets be completley honest here Mr Whiteside.

The people here have been polite, respectful and patience.
We are -your- costumers though and recently I believe many do not feel treated all that fairly.

The community has given you a lot of feedback over the past weeks if not months and then Anet presents us with a feature pack (or rather bug fix pack, because there are no features released) that has absolutely 0% of the things in it the people have been giving you feedback about.

And then you wonder why some people here think the CDI is useless and the feedback is being ignored. Of course people are getting tired now and less respectful. They love the game (some probably even more than you do). They had high hopes their feedback was taken into consideration and Anet was listening but it turns out they are not listening.

It turns out Anet has really betrayed their veteran players now and it’s clear they are rather focusing on remodelling the leveling system and attract new players, dumbing the game down further and further. At this rate, I think a lot of people are going to throw in the towel and just leave.

Serious, constructive feedback from your playerbase is a blessing to ANY publisher. Why doesn’t Anet see the value of this?

Completely Pointless Revamps?

Anet actually has one of the BEST playerbase out there for a MMO.
The players of GW2 are actually willing to be patient and toyed around with, in order to somehow save the game, because the players -love- this game.

Any other game, the community would have freaked out and nothing could stop the damage done. People would have left long ago and the game would bleed to death.

With GW2 though, we have a community, active, motivated and strong willed to make this game a success again and pull it away from the edge. But now we have a publisher who seems to be all to eager to push it off again. Why?

My ideal GW3:

Graphics of ArcheAge Online.
Quest system of GW2
Openworld PVP, meaning I can kill anyone I want in the open world (or get killed).
Combat: Freestyle action combat like Vindictus has.
Character customization: More free, and indepth changes possible (refering to ArchAge Online for an example).
Offering Guild wars to be rewarding.
Open world PVP, fight over world bosses that spawn.

Less important ‘’living story’’ but more development of the world around me.
More attention towards PVP and the looks of the game (new weapon/armor skins).
More and GOOD looking character costumes in the cash shop.
Faster leveling experience with the old trait system.
Classes are more balanced and re-introduction of the missing GW1 classes.
Rework on the boring staff animations for Necromancer.

That is it for now…

I dont understand the issue here. GW2 is one of the best games for quick leveling. Run events for quick leveling/WvW zerg trains also help leveling faster the game mechanics should not be changed any quicker. GW2 is perfect in my opinion.

The game has a linear leveling curve.
It takes just as long to get from level 10 to 20 as it does to get from level 70 to 80.
While some agree this is good, I personally think it’s better to level up faster when you’re low level AND get the traits unlocked at low level so you can try out different classes.

Now you get to see if a class is ’’fun’’ after you’ve reached at -least- level 30. Elite skills become available at 20 and it takes a long time to get to level 20 already.

Quests don’t give you so much experience either and the main story line does, but has these level recommendations. For example when I am level 16, I cannot do the level 20 story line quest without dying every second. So the experience I get from finishing it may be more than normally, but it is not as frequent.

Events give more exp than “quests”, if you are skipping the events you are missing a huge chunk of exp. Explore, harvest, craft, do dailies all give exp as well. It does sound slow for doing things for days and you are not level 20. Read the stickied posts on top of the player helping player forum.

Thank you.
I’m feeling pretty dumb now but I cannot find the topic you’re refering to.
There are a few similars but they do not tell me what events takes place where and when. They give me advise like: ‘’do events’’ but unless they mean I need to roam the map randomly, hoping to stumble upon an event I am still pretty clueless.

Are you saying Anet is unable to keep themselves to a roadmap and that’s why you do not speculate on the future?

Hey all,

The leveling up in GW2 is pretty slow in my experience.
Knowing the level cap is 80 and I can start using the trait system at 30 it takes a long time to even reach level 30 for me.

Been playing numerous hours/days now and I’m still only like level 20. And I am doing -all- the quests and even some WvWvW to rake in some experience.

Is there a secret trick or way to level? Right now it’s so kitten slow that I am worried I’ll reach the ‘’interesting stuff’’ in months.. Only to maybe find out the traits my class has to it’s use aren’t all that cool.

So my question to the other users. How did you level up? Is it really that slow? What can I do best to level fast, yet not power leveling though.

Staff skills are BORING

So how comes no change has been made to the staff?

Because its the most usefull weapon, its boring but its the only real ranged option and it offers the most utility. What else should a bower build use? Main hand axe / Main hand dagger?

Thats what really anoys me about the necromancer. 10 skills of the necro are set in stone. DS and staff, you can only chose you second weapon set and utility spells. If you are not a minion master the chance is high that you use only 5 utility spells in all your builds. If you play a condi necro the only real choice is your offhand weapon.

Exactly.. it makes the class very boring.

Yes, the DPS is totally fine.
I even understand how useful the marks are in PVP but the game is more than PVP too. Let’s not forget that.

The animations of the staff on Necro are so lame. You want to have the feeling you’re playing something epic/dark/powerful not some rune druid who places a few marks on the ground and hopes the enemy doesn’t move.

Such a small radius too and the skills themselves are BORING. I don’t care if they are ‘’good or OP’‘, they are just plain and boring. No effects, no big AOE’s like I’d expect.

Compare how the skills -look- on the Ele, Mesmer or Guardian and then look at the skills the staff has on the Necromancer. See the difference?

What would be nice is having 1 ’’mark’’ skill that randomly creates an effect on the opponent and the rest of the 3 skills of the staff should be something cool/shadowy looking. Something that makes me go like ‘’Oh yea! Now THATS a necro skill!’’

Staff skills are BORING

in Necromancer

Posted by: Novalitus.7382

Novalitus.7382

Seriously, I’ve played a character with a staff before in GW2, be it a mesmer or guardian or even elementalist. All which have epic cool looking skills/animations that are different from each other.

The necromancer on the other hand has 4 out of 5 skills that are ’’marks’’ and somewhat do the same, be it bleeding/chilling/whatever. Fact is that they just give a condition to the enemy if they are stupid enough to step on the seal, that is it. It’s just so boring, not creative and flat-out unfun to play.

I LOVE staffs though, they even look like nice scythes on my Necromancer so I fail to see why they gave them such boring skills to begin with.

Why not some cool wicked creepy attack with shadow/magic?? Or 1 attack where they use the scythe as a slashing attack?

Am I the only one who thinks the staff skills need a rework on the necromancer or do you actually enjoy putting 4 of the similar marks on the floor that nobody even sees in a fight?

Let me know. Maybe I am understanding it wrong.

The armors in Guildwars 2 really don’t look good at all..
Al lot of the armors actually look the same and even the ‘’high end’’ armors aren’t looking ‘’high end-ish’’.

The costumes in the gemstore aren’t very pretty either (male or female). I would not buy them.

I love playing MMOs and investing time/money in how my character looks.. I try to make them look as beautiful/wicked as possible, but GW2 does not let me do that.

I play another game alongside GW2 and the armor I obtained there yesterday is just gorgious.

No offense but… if you’re happy with Tera, then play that? This time I don’t mean that as something mean, just that you seem to have found a game you like aesthetically. So can’t you people leave at least one game to those who don’t like AION/Tera-style aesthetics?

Because our other options are like… Age of Conan or Mortal Online. And if you’ve played them, then you should know why many people avoid those games.

Well the costumes of TERA is only ONE thing I like about the game. This discussion is about the costumes/armors design, not about the rest of the game. So I am pointing out that I would like to see more of TERA/Aion’s costume/armor designs in GW2.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the other aspects of neither GW2, Tera or Aion.

Novalitus.7382

Hey guys,

The problem I am experiencing is -extremely- frustrating to me, for I love this game more than any other… and it prevents me to play it.

Without further waiting, the problem has to do with my computer FREEZING everytime I play the game. I am able to load the launcher and select my character and then, depending on my luck, I make it inworld and then my computer freezes, or it freezes during the loading screen.

This issue is new to me, for I have played this game two weeks ago without any problems. Nothing on my side changed (except i bought a soundblaster audigy soundcard and installed it with drivers).

The support doesn’t help me either or makes me jump through random hoops that have nothing to do with the problem. So I am turning to you, the playerbase.

My personal guess, is that it has something to do with the memory. Perhaps one of the memory blocks is broken, which causes the computer to freeze. The computer does ‘not’ freeze when playing any other games. Perhaps GW2 requires a lot of memory to run?

Things I have done so far:

  • Reinstall the game (multiple times)
  • Reinstall windows 8 (multiple times)
  • Update/reinstall all drivers (multiple times)
  • Scan for viruses/malware (zillion times)
  • Remove programs that might inflict with the game
  • Run system tests (all good, not sure about memory though!)

The game used to work fine and it works on my (crappy) laptop and on my husband’s PC, which has similar capabilities to mine and also runs on windows 8(.1).

Here is an overview of my PC specs:

CPU: AMD FX™-4170 Quad-Core Processor (4551.25 MHz)
Memory: 4043 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit (Build 9200)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 560 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
Windows Graphics Driver Version: 9.18.0013.3523
OpenGL Version: 4.4.0
Soundblaster Audigy FX

Please someone help… I’ve been working on this problem for the past week now and I’ve exhausted all the possible solutions I could come up with. I am no newbie when it comes down to tech/pc, but this problem really beats me.

Holy Trinity Is Called "Holy" For A Reason

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Novalitus.7382

Novalitus.7382

It works. I don’t mean to burst A-Net’s bubble with the whole, “ground shaking” idea of removing the trinity, but there’s a reason why every MMO uses it. It’s not as frustrating as every mob being uncontrollable; since, with no tank I guess that’s what A-Net wants. As a thief, it is very frustrating to have a boss turn around and one shot you in a split second. Everything PvE oriented is uncontrolled, and very badly structured.

This lack of holy trinity accounts for the reason why the endgame of GW2 is so bad. Raids for example are not feasible since it would be too hectic, and not very fun. Dungeons are the farthest you get, even then as a melee you’d be constantly hopping back to dodge a backswing, that you might as well re-roll Mesmer.

I don’t know about others, but while forming groups for dungeons there is always a need of a tank, A-Net will never officially take away the trinity anyways, guardians will always be there for tanking. As a thief, will always NOT tank.

With the holy trinity everything is controlled and theres no “WTF” unless it’s your fault because you didn’t move out of the bad. WoW’s endgame is very much so superior to GW2’s, and will forever be, unless some sort of trinity is occurring. And GW2 will always be inferior for this reason.

Well I disagree ^^
The ’’holy’’ trinity you speak of, comes from an age of ‘’oldstyle MMOs’’ such as WoW being the prime example. Older games ones upon a time introduced this system and because it’s human to copy each other, the trinity became the ’’standard’’. MMO designers/developers stopped experimenting with the combat system and by default for a long period of time (years) any new MMO introduced had this trinity you speak of.

It became very dull after a while and all the games started looking like each other with only minor differences. This caused a lot of MMO players to be scattered out over a lot of games, rather than focus on a top 5 and heavily populate those games.

GW2 decided to break the trinity and start experimenting again. They are pioneers on the area of MMOs, introducing some groundbreaking elements. They did a lot of things ’’right’’.

In conclusion… there are a lot of players able to ’’adapt’’ and let go of the old trinity system and there are some who somehow cannot. I think you are part of that last group, and I also think eventually the trinity will completely die. The thought of it is quite ridiculous… that with your class/weapon you are -forced- to play a certain role in a party throughout the ENTIRE game…

Guild Wars Armor Skins

No, you are right…
At low level the armors don’t look very appealing to me and they -all- look similar to each other. I was hoping when I’d level up and get the next level armor it would look -better- but the difference is VERY subtle and to me not noticable.

Hope it gets better at endgame but I’ve looked on the wiki for all the available armor and only the cultural armor look good on a Sylvari .. the rest does not..

3. Time slots. To combat the problems above, you could make WvW only accesible during certain hours of the day and night. That allows for bigger groups to enter so you have at least a big zerg vs another big zerg. You could have the portal open up at 8 PM till midnight for example and then the next morning from 9 AM till noon and from 2PM till 4 PM. That allows 8 hours of WvW pvp during the day. Which is more than enough

What do I do if I can only play from 2 to 4? No WvW for me?
Game is 24h because not everyone is playing at the same time as you are…

WvW would be accesible more than 2 hours a day though. In my suggestion I mentioned the timeslot 2 – 4 PM, so even with limited time, you’d be able to play still.

@ others.
I am happy to hear that the servers are matched up fairly after all. I don’t quite understand the system yet, so I will believe your word for it hehe.

I hope A-net considers appreciating WvW more than they are doing now, for a large part of the playerbase prefers it over any pve-dungeon / Scarlet-attack.

Concerns about WvW future

A lot of people will leave for ESO. Some will be back. In any case, Anet’s doing a pretty good job of killing WvW with lack of attention towards the game mode — ESO isn’t the biggest problem.

Í’ve played the ESO beta and watched a lot of other reviews but the game is a real disappointment. It’s not living up to the hype.

Ranger Pets Overpowered?

On my mesmer I find Rangers to be the hardest class to kill…
Their damage is really good (bow user) and their pets are ten times stronger than any of my clones or phantasms. I think when a ranger’s pet dies… the ranger should go to revive it, not just spawn a new one.

Greetings everyone…

I have recently returned to the game and joined in some WvW battles. I Always find them very fun and fast paced, plus there’s a lot of different things to do.

I am no -expert- so forgive me if I am not understanding the system entirely. But there are a few big flaws I am seeing in the current system.

1. Population. My server isn’t a big one anymore. During the day there is no zerg going on and if there is a zerg going on it’s somewhere between 10-20 people only. Yet my server is being matched against servers with a far greater population, who have big zergs running around day -and- night. So even in those 3 hours at night when my server has a zerg going on, and we win a lot of keeps, towers and what not… then the moment it’s time to go to bed, the tide changes again.

2. Performance. There should be a system that makes -equally- strong servers fight each other, rather than it being random. Both population and performance should be taken into consideration when creating the WvW groups that fight each other.

I know the suggested solution isn’t perfect, as there will -Always- be a few people who cannot make it on those times (even though its a 3 hour period!). But given the circumtances it’s a good suggestion that Anet should take into consideration.

Let me hear your thoughts on the matter. If I am wrong on this, please enlighten me, for I am still learning. But I just say what I see with the eyes of a ’’fresh’’ player, for I am no pro.

Game crashing computer at random intervals

Hello. I just wanted to add my post to this thread.

I have similar issues, using Nvidia 660 Ti. The problems described here are almost 100% the ones I have. My computer locks up randomly. But in my case the PC doesn’t restart, it just freezes completely, the screen turns black, red, green or any solid color. Nothing can be done. The only way to get up and running is to hard reset the system and then again. I am using the latest drivers, but I’ve tried all the former driver versions from Nvidia with no luck, including betas.

THIS HAPPENS ONLY WITH GUILD WARS 2. I’VE DONE MULTIPLE BENCHMARKS WITH SOFTWARE LIKE 3DMARK, FURMARK AND A FEW MORE. PLUS PLAYED A COUPLE OF OTHER GAMES – NOTHING.

I’ve tested my RAM, my CPU, my GPU. I tried with different GPUs (mainly AMD 7950 and AMD 4850 + the integrated GPU in 3570k) – no problems.

I also think this is a software problem, since any other game/application runs perfectly fine.

We need an ArenaNet representative to take a look in this, please!

I have the exact SAME problem (which is why i ended here on this topic).
I also have a GTX 560Ti video card and the -same- problems described above.
The computer works great with any other games!

More nerfes I see? I relied heavily on Warlock actually, given it was one of my most used skills. Together with the increased cooldown of the number 5 skill I really wonder if I should switch to scepter or perhaps just play an elementalist instead. I am deeply disappointed with how much they nerf our class. Not cool at all Arenanet.
