I completed the three Sylvari personal story achievement for the first time just a few days ago. Contrary to what my Achievement Panel now states I received no Mastery Points. It would be terrific if someone from Anet would comment on this. I assume it is a bug.

Did those guilds join DB before the leagues started? I ask because I believe that if a player transfers to a new server after the Leagues commenced then their end-of-league reward will be based on their old servers performance & not the new server.

Your opinion is noted, but what evidence do you have that ANY content will EVER require specific equipment type? What content can you not now do with even LVL 80 Masterwork equipment? Will it be slightly more difficult or require some tactics changes than with some better (or even different spec) equipment? Possibly, but it’s certainly doable. Not being able to get into a Dungeon PUG because of your equipment is NOT the same thing as being unable to complete the content.

BiS “gearing up” is a player invented “requirement” that has NEVER been a game or content requirement. No doubt it has kept both the game and economy churning right along, but no content requires “keeping up with the Jones”.

I would argue that ‘Agony’ makes high lvl Fractals of the Mists gear gated content. Off original topic.

Yes, I expect that this will be the case all week. I’ve joined the YB Karma Train & have already seen some amazingly stupid things from our fairweather players. Just one of many examples was at ET’s Bay where about a dozen of our finest ran straight up to the gate & started PvDing, completely ignoring not just the cannons but the boiling oil directly above their heads. This was while there were defenders inside. Unfortunately no defenders used the oil so no lessons were learnt. Not that they are likely to learn anything as demonstrated by their repeatedly standing in AC circles & dying.

The current match-up guarantees that NSP will be in Bronze League. Last spot in Silver League will go to either Kain or HoD.

Not to sure what you expected. Whenever you have a large number of WvWers flocking to the one server it takes time for that server to rise to its appropriate rank & opposition. I expect that the current SBI would fit in at about Rank 6 on the ladder.

SBI might actually take the #6 spot just in time for leagues.

While I suspect that SBI may eventually rank higher than Mag & SoS, I doubt that this will happen before Season 1 starts.

DB seem to currently be doing a stellar job of getting themselves in to Silver League.

With the league nearly here and everyone is foolishly stacking up at t1 servers, Anet surely got themselves quite a lot of money. Will it end here? Nope. When t1 players realize that they will only meet their “real” opponent just one time through out the whole league while having blow out match up for the rest of the league, surely a lot of them will transfer to lower tier once they got tired of PvD, especially Oceanic/SEA players. Which also means kaching to Anet.

I don’t think YB has anything like DB’s numbers, especially in time slots other than US peak (which I never see!). I think a lot of the feedback is being expressed in the hope that Anet will read it and ponder the likely effect of the league.

Effectively both KN and YB find themselves totally dominated by DB who can even decide who comes second in the match.

since you bring it up… I am starting bidding at 100g to decide which server comes in second this week.

I assume the highest bidder will be rewarded with third place. This whole ridiculous League idea that Anet has come up with makes the prospect of YB swapping places with SBI very appealing.

Don’t hold your breath expecting any sort of organised effort to take back our Borderland. The general drive of YB tends to be more to do with karma trains, WXP, & a blind obsession with EBG rather than any interest in PPT.

I think it’s SoS that would rather be doing the forgetting. But that’s old news now that SoS has been getting their act together & attracting back the likes of [Agg].

It’s been 17 weeks since YB’s last match against SoS. Back then we (YB) faced a demoralised SoS. Based on SoS’s performance since then, I expect we will be seeing a very different opponent to the one we faced back in March & April. Also, this time around we don’t have Dragonbrand restricting SoS’s Oceanic impact.

- Killing a supply dolyak now awards 3 points to the team that lands the deathblow.

I believe a supply dolyak reaching its final destination is also worth 3 points, but I have no reference to back that up.

CNB are on the field during NA primetime. Since RE left I have probably faced more CNB players during NA prime than any other Kain guild. They are about as far removed from a PvD zerg as you can get.

Now, I’m just one of the plebs that follows the blue dorito, but I was hoping for some clarification on the grand strategy for this week. Are we sticking with the ‘Kain & Yaks bash each other while ignoring the third servers borderland’ approach? The only reason I’m asking is that it didn’t seem to be all that effective in our two previous matches against CD.

I can only comment from my limited view of the battlefield during NA primetime but CD seems far more organised & numerous than the last time we (YB) met. There seemed to be CD scouts everywhere & I don’t thing I came across a single CD tower that didn’t have at least one defender, usually manning an AC. Borderland defence is key to winning these matches & from my view CD easily had the best defence of the three servers.

There seems to be a lot of Mags encouraging us Yaks to target Kain in a fight for second place. Just the opinion of one YB player but I would much rather come third in a fairly close fought match (T3 was the second closest match in NA last week) than a distant second.

Well bombing is one of the most powerful tactic in the game and it require necros… I would even go so far as to say they should be the AoE backbone of any organized group, more so than any other profession.

Would I be correct in assuming that the Well Bombing Necros are built for high power rather than condition damage?

My necro is just about to hit 80 & I just can’t make up my mind which kind of build is best while running in a zerg. Conditions are great when they stay on, but with so much condition removal in big fights & with zergball on zergball fights generally being decided fairly quickly it just seems that I might be better off going for the big AoE hits of power over the slow burn of AoE conditions.

Based only on what I’ve read in the T2 thread it seems that the vast majority of War Machine are having a break from GW2. Also apparently some of CD’s oceanic/SEA guilds such as [AWE] have moved to TC.

I think it’s got a lot to do with the last patch & how offense is rewarded more than defense. It’s a selfish attitude & I’m as guilty of it as anyone as defense is what will earn more points for a server. I used to spend my WvW time defending YBbl but now spend most of it running around opponents borderlands. The fact that everything we hold will inevitably be flipped overnight also does make breaking other servers stuff more appealing.

I’m requesting that Maguuma’s server be renamed to Pride Lands. The only time I’ve seen Maguuma in WvW is in one, big, giant, absurdly sized zerg that I swear everyone on their server is in. You find out where the zerg is, you go to the opposite side of the map, and then all of a sudden the stampede from The Lion King comes pouring over the hills and there’s nothing you can do because you evaporate and die faster than Mufasa. I feel like Simba every time I look up a hill or tower.

tldr; Maguuma is the stampede from The Lion King.

I can’t take anyone seriously that complains about Maguuma’s numbers when guilds like NNK and BP exist. And news flash, it’s the weekend! It pretty much goes hand in hand that you’ll run into nothing but zergballs. When Monday comes, your regularly scheduled roaming may resume. And throw in some fight clubs please.

A few points. Munkee is on YB. NNK & BP are on DB. And when he said ‘evaporate & die’ I think he was referring to the poor sods who get run over by the Mag zerg, not the zerg itself. Mag may have lost a lot of the Mag2.0 mob but you guys are definitely a lot bigger & have better coverage than the Mag we used to fight back in 2012.

I expect SoS to do well in T4. They may even be the server to beat. SoS will have the strongest Oceanic presence but how big an impact they have will depend on when CD’s SEA crew log in. The last time we (YB) faced SBI they were a very demoralized server but the scores seem to indicate that they have really gotten their act together since then. SoS/CD/SBI could be a very interesting & close match.

As for T3, I hope it doesn’t deteriorate into a pointless fight for second between Mag & YB. NA hours should be very busy & I would like to see DB’s Dolyaks become an endangered species during SEA hours (killing dolyaks really is the best way for small numbers to make a difference).

At the risk of sounding desperate, please please please come to Yak’s Bend. There is probably no server on any tier were one SEA guild could make a bigger impact. You could be just another SEA guild on a tier 1 or 2 server, or you could take up the challenge that YB faces & really make a difference. You would have the undying appreciation of a whole tier 3 server. We would shout your praises from the rooftops.

Not sure how you got the 2 days bit… Our “push” literally started at 5PM EST on Friday., last week. But you are right that we are spending more time trying to find a fight than to PvDoor… Do you really blame us? In any event, either Yaks is a whole lot stronger than I thought, or SoS a whole lot worse…. Maybe Yaks needs to reall step it up and send SoS down to T4.

I don’t blame you. As far as sending SoS to T4 goes, they have coverage similar to CD only stronger all around. Sending them to T4 would be beyond our control as they are comparatively strongest when we are weakest. If SoS was to eventually go to T4 they wouldn’t be there for long.

CD is a server with a strong Oceanic/east Asia presence which keeps them in T4. As a result their NA players will always find themselves matched against much larger NA heavy servers such as YB or Mag. Some players prefer to play the outnumbered underdog & use havoc ‘hit & run’ guerrilla tactics but it’s not for everyone. If you’re not already part of a WvW guild then I would say join one, & as rchu said, at least wait till the March update & see what that has to offer.

Sorry, I’m looking at the score in our matchup and the score in in your matchup and having a lot of trouble taking your post seriously. Seriously, right now at the standings, Yaks is projected to gain another 32 ratings points…. And they may yet overtake SoS by the end of the matchup… As long as SoS keeps giving Yaks inflated ratings gain, Mags won’t be able to gain enough against these T4 teams to compensate.

There was a 3.3 rating divide between YB & Mag at the end of last weeks match, & that was the week when SoS entered T3 & had the most points to lose (& YB to gain) from their overinflated rating. Mag players in last weeks T4 thread said that they had made a concerted effort over the last 2 days of that match to get back to T3.

This week, while SoS’s rating is still inflated, it is not to the same extent as it was last week. If Mag could close the gap to 3.3 pts last week when conditions were more favorable to YB, then why has the rating gap increased so far this week? Two reasons would be that YB has performed much better this week (especially our off-peak players), but also that many Mag players are more interested in farming badges/roaming than capping points.

If Mag was serious about returning to T3 sooner rather than later then they would have put the same effort into this weeks match as they did the last 2 days of last weeks match.

YB’s non-NA punch well above their weight. They have been fighting seriously outmanned for months & still keep coming back for more.

No. I suggest YB and DB guilds/players that are looking for a server with excellent PvE base and great oceanic coverage to come to SoS. NA SoS has no queues even on reset night on ANY map. Guilds are helpful and work together even for guild missions.

If you don’t care about points enjoy the game and matchup

Or we could have some of each servers respective primetime players distribute themselves amongst the other two servers & make this a proper 24/7 even contest. It wont happen but I can dream of a truly balanced tier.

By the way, t4 is not a faceroll for YB. The only server in t4 that can actually score 500+ PPT with relative ease is CD when their east Asia crew turns up.

From all the scores available so far on millenium, green server is not winning in any tiers, but will likely be winning in just about all of them by the end of the week.

It’s may be an indication of how important around-the-clock coverage is compared to strength in any one timezone. The green servers probably have the comparatively more even distribution of WvW players in each tier.

That score update shows YB’s usual one-eyed obsession with Stonemist. Just my opinion & I know I’ve said it before, but if the manpower & resources that we throw at that kitten in EB were put into defending/sieging other targets then our ppt would be much healthier.

I should just ignore the scoreboard & accept that people will play the game the way they want to, but as a defence orientated player I do find it a bit frustrating.

SoS is a bit of a wildcard here, though they seem to be holding their own in T2 against 2 very strong servers so I suspect they’ll be too strong for the current T3 as well.

Ideally the gaps between each tier shouldn’t be as big as they are now such that occasional tier movements don’t immediately create blowout matches, but transfers lulz

Agree. SoS would have to completely fall apart for the OP’s match-ups to occur & based on their performance so far this week that’s unlikely without a lot more defections. In the long run SoS will most likely become the third server in tier 3 with DB & Mag.

The tier 4 YB/CD/EBay match is a lot more balanced than the scores at this time show. I expect the gap between scores will close as the week progresses. CD’s more rounded coverage may even win them the match, just as it did a few weeks ago.

Tier 5 is in an awkward situation. Short of one of the higher tier servers collapsing, DR & IoJ just might have to form an alliance against SBI to get a competitive match.

If you cannot bother to spare a couple people per map to run around and keep tabs on enemy forces or check on white swords, you don’t deserve to keep your territory.

Stop expecting the game mechanics to tell you where the real threat is and adapt.

Pre-patch orange swords meant send out a group to attack/slow down the invaders. Pre-patch white swords meant send out a scout. As often as not it would be two npc’s fighting. Occasionally it would be a group of 20+ using 3 or 4 catas to tear down a wall, which still takes a few minutes against reinforced walls. Sometimes this is just enough time for an adequate defense to be mounted.

Post-patch white swords could mean just about anything. That same 20+ group doesn’t need to restrict themselves to just a few catas at range, they can now tear down that same reinforced wall in a fraction of the time & still not cause orange swords. Scouting will not give enough warning to respond, at least when it comes to towers.

This patch will make the already poorly rewarded, thankless & expensive job of defending even more difficult. On a positive note I do like the fix to Righteous Indignation though.

So white swords can know mean a lone skritt/centaur fighting a guard or it could mean 24 golems? Bizarre decision by Anet. The less info the defenders have will result in less effective defense. More towers & keeps will flip more often & few will spend the cash to upgrade them. Defenders will throw up their hands & just join the zergs attacking the now barely defended paper keeps & towers.

Looks like we may be in tier 2 next week. Not sure I’m looking forward to that. Two powerhouse servers (BG and Kain) vs us. I know its still early to determine but we have a decent amount of points ahead of TC now…

According to some other threads BG is receiving some substantial WvW guild transfers from SoS. Depending on how big an impact that has on SoS, BG may not be in tier 2 for very long.

Tier 2 in a week or so could be a demoralised SoS v Kain v FA. Tier 3 next week should be TC v DB v Mag. Both these match-ups would be very interesting to watch as I think some of the servers have not faced each other since they have had big transfers. An FA v TC rematch may happen if SoS is really hurting & drops to tier 3, though my guess is that that’s unlikely.

One thing that does seem to magnify the ‘snowballing’ of the stronger servers score is the desire of the other two servers to not be last. Often the other two servers will target each other which leaves the stronger server relatively unopposed.

As an incentive to attack the current PPT server, bonus points could be awarded for capturing territory off them. Maybe a bounty could be placed on the head of current PPT server players in the form of +100% magic find. Both these options have there flaws but I think they could result in more competitive matches.

Just my personal opinion but as a Yak’s Bender I can only hope this match-up doesn’t happen as it will be an absolute farce. Many servers say that their population are primarily PvE orientated & that is no more true than on YB. If our NA players log-in & find that we control next to nothing then the vast majority of them will just go & find something else to do. We have seen it before with the rise of Kaineng, Mag, & to a lesser extent DB as they passed through tier 4.

The only positive thing that could come out of this match-up, if it was to happen, is that FA wins by such a ridiculous margin that it puts them in T2.

It’s happening because you have the most points, and because Mag is losing in T3. This sort of thing happens…if you’re lucky (or unlucky, depending on your point of view on it), Mag will stomp T4 and you’ll lose enough in T3 to reverse it back to normal.

If we do end up going to T3 I expect it to be a very short visit. FA is a borderline T2 server & even though we did ok against DB’s NA forces the last time we met we had no answer for their east Asia crew. And I believe DB’s NA forces have strengthened considerably since our last match-up.

Mag was clearly the stronger server last time we met, & even though they have reportedly lost a significant number of their newer transfers since entering T3, the fact that they can still score a respectable points total against FA & DB leads me to believe that they are still a stronger server than us Yak’s.

On a side note, this weeks T4 match-up, as far as the scoreboard is concerned, has so far been the second closed competition of all the NA tiers. Congrats to all who came out to play.

Can’t say I’m thrilled with this idea. Currently it takes discipline to assault a site without raising yellow swords. Increasing the number of attackers required to raise yellow swords will mean that an organised group can tear down a wall in a fraction of the time it currently takes & still not raise yellow swords. It also means that a few hangers-on auto-attacking the wall wont be the difference between (hopefully) getting in unopposed, & drawing the attention of all the defenders on the map. I think this change will only help invaders & hinder defenders as it will effectively reduce the amount of info that can be gathered from the map.

A bit of pure speculation, but I wonder if we could consider Anets neglect of tier 8 as a possible indication of there intent to merge servers in the near future. They may not feel a need to balance the tier if they intend on doing away with it.

I think EBay played a very strategic game during that match-up. Dragonbrand was always going to win but while YB was throwing most of its forces against DB in Eternal Battlegrounds, EBay was targeting YB controlled areas in the borderlands. Specifically our own borderland. EBay was fighting us for second place but we were to obsessed with Stonemist to realize it. As a primarily YB BL defender it was a frustrating match-up, but well played by EBay.

I doubt it would be new transfers. I think it has more to do with last week being our first win since the rise of Dragonbrand. We just seem to have players coming out of the woodwork when things are going well, especially on reset & over the weekend. Compare that to Week 3 when Maguuma stomped us on reset & YB pretty much took the rest of the week off. I think morale is a big factor in WvW participation on a PvE centric server.
