Hello, I am on build 25488, and I get the error (58:11:5:512) when I try to connect, saying it cannot connect to the log-in server. I live in New Zealand, and have previously had no trouble connecting before.
The funny thing is, if I put in the wrong password, it tells me so. How can it know the password is wrong if it cannot find the faSJADGHJ*&^ log-in server (frustrated).
We’ve tried opening the required ports, closing them, closing down all torrent and other network related programs. I’ve used my mobile phone 3G tethered as well, and it won’t connect using that either.
If anybody from arenanet needs it, I’ve attached the diagnostic file, though from what I can see it looks fine…not the best, but fine. I also downloaded the game files at 1.5MB/s sooo….
I’ve also noticed that it takes around 8-10 seconds of sitting on the log-in page just for the GW2 website in order to log-in as well.

Please update the looting method in WvW such that loot is automatically put into your bags, and loot bags only appear on the ground if all your bags are full.
Not a hard change to make. I expect to see this in the next update.
Thieves could use a bit more damage on their basic attacks and other non-burst skills, but not too much. Their damage isn’t quite on par with Warriors, but it’s not that far off.
The big problem is the lack of good team buffing utilities. The big edge Warriors and Guardians have is the wide variety of shouts and banners that buff the damage and defense of the entire team; Thieves have nothing to compete with that.
That’s my main point, is that we have NO buffs to offer people. We can offer stealth res, and medium damage, but really to be balanced in PVE we should be able to offer HIGH damage/stealth/slipperyness.
It would make us more of a team player, because we would bring superior DPS to the table. That would mean that in lieu of supporting the team through buffs, we would be picked up for supporting the team through damage.
I reckon this is something that needs to be implemented, I feel kind of powerless to warriors and guardians in PvP, I have to slink around in stealth/keep away from the fight so much that the few hits I land don’t contribute much. But if those few hits were high damage, then I wouldn’t feel so bad about having to spend 1/2 my time in stealth/dodging.
I mean, obviously a bunker thief would feel different, but I think they would still benefit massively from a pve damage boost as well.
Thanks for your input, guys.
Yeh coz thiefs damage is already so low….Go try warrior on spvp/wvw ..fight some ur beloved thiefs..and cry that u were downed just due spam skills/heartseaker before u could do any serious damage to ur opponent.Yeh warrior have better dps…but only at pve where mobs stands still and guardian buffing ur back with protection/regeneration..coz they have overall crappy sustain both pve/pve and more hp in pool does no difference when ur healing skills are pure crap, just 2 more seconds on legs before ur dead.Zerker war has better damage both pvp[cheap bull-evisc combo + pray for crit..and 30 points in power line for max adre with elite signet..easy to avoid by any more than medicore player]/pve but its 2 shot punchbag and 1 trick ponny then, especially for thief…u should know that…but guardians damage is nowhere near to both of em,let alone higher..In my opinion thief is the last class, just after eles and guardians that needs buffing in any matter.Op is just silly, some statements sounds like made by someone who played 1st week and had problems with pve …1.5x dmg multi ..hell yeh man,now go take some sleep and dont drink so much before posting such ideas on forums.
Did you even read? I said PVE, NOT PVP.
I have played both thief and warrior WvW anyway, I’d love to see a May vid of you heartseekering someone to death who isn’t a complete and utter kittening noob.
Not to mention I have been playing the game since the start of the beta. And what, are you a twelve year old? That drinking comment was just childish.
(edited by Nyctimus.4109)
Warrior dps for example is on par or (more often) superior to thief dps while still remaining incredibly survivable.
I would love to see thieves do 1.5x (or so) damage in pve simply for the purposes of being picked up in dungeon groups/giving us an easier time in pve. We would still be limited by our mechanics, including the revealed debuff.
As pure damage spec, warriors and guardians have very similar or higher damage, whilst retaining higher health/armour/condition removal and other survival aspects.
If I spec to remove conditions/have a couple thousand more health/other surviving mechanics other than relying on stealth, my damage is pitiful and I am NOT helping other players by being there.
Does anyone else agree, or does someone really feel like the thief is worthwhile in pve?
I don’t always play WvW, but when I do I get kittened backwards by anti-stealth traps!
I wish the shadowstep utility would step to a person if they were in range and were targeted. :C
Over and over again.
And only adapt to the fewer and fewer choices we have left. In 3 months I bet you every thief has been forced into a bunker/condition build.
2 months later after massive QQ from people “they have so many bleeeeeeeds”, the thief class is deleted and all characters converted to warriors.
Seeing as I have a thief (changes between S/D and D/P, always with Shortbow) and am quite happy with his performance… I maintain my point.
The “I have a thief” argument is null and void when I can have a bunker build and laugh all the way to the bank vs spike builds.
But I do run a spike build, because it is fun. I can escape sometimes, but when I screw up, it’s a definite death sentence.
Outside of all the thief nerf problems and kittening our class up, this recent change makes me not want to play with people. I DON’T WANT to be near ANYBODY, when all it takes is for an ally to step on a trap and I am kittened for 30 seconds. They’re absolutely fine, but it says to me: you want a chance of surviving, don’t play near teammates. Which saddens me, because I love chatting with small groups of people while capturing small points and helping cover people with my thief. If I land a backstab on someone harassing a teammate, they aren’t harassed for much longer because people seem to have this innate rabid dog syndrome, where they see a thief they go for it and nothing else.
GG Anet, I can see why NCSoft are constantly trying to reign you in.
I have already seen it used on roaming thieves. But if I want to help a zerg take a keep I can’t because I will get kittened by a stealth trap, so it discourages me from group play now. People can do the jumping puzzle to get badges, and don’t mind wasting their badges from other kills to take out a class that they’re too lazy to counter intelligently.
And mesmer? What the kitten ever, man. Thief is built around stealth, how many skills/utilities and traits do we have dealing with stealth vs a mesmer? There’s your answer.
Not to mention, mesmer no stealth, is perfectly fine. Stealth taken away from thief (depending on which exact build): our main defense is gone, our main damage source is gone, our main team utility (stealth healing etc) is GONE.
What are we supposed to do? Start spamming heartseeker again now? It’s so nerfed full initiative will drop them by 1/3 health. Then they stun and kill you anyway.
Over and over again.
And only adapt to the fewer and fewer choices we have left. In 3 months I bet you every thief has been forced into a bunker/condition build.

To everyone else saying non-stealth builds are viable please STFU.
People want to play in different ways. If you’re a low-damage bunker thief, you probably don’t care, but for the high-damage stealth-reliant thieves, this kittens us over big time.
You can’t backstab without stealth, you’re right.
So used to playing the class that I didn’t think twice about it…
This is a sad day indeed for thieves. This nerf is bad, but what’s worse is that they put it in. This only means we should continue to expect nerfs to our core mechanics until we really ARE just warriors.
sigh Any ideas for a class to reroll, guys? Or should I just wait for Elder Scrolls Online…
Basically with the addition of this new stealth revealing trap, thief as a class is no longer a viable option in wvw.
;~; Not only does the thief nerf make me cry, but this song brings back bad memories.
kitten you, Arenanet. Stop picking on us you big bullies. You’ve 100% killed WvW for most thieves, and those that do play are not inclined to participate in groups but roam instead.
You kittening amateurs.
“Removes stealth from enemies and reveals them for 30 seconds, preventing stealth.” AT a range of 1200 radius from the trap.
Any class OTHER than thief gets an entire trap dedicated to THEM in WvW? NONE, that’s right.
Great game design Anet, just delete us already and be done with it. Now thieves have NO REASON AT ALL to participate in zergs where they will be constantly destealthed for this time.
What are we without stealth? If you’re gonna kitten on stealth like this, give us 1.2-1.5x damage back, so we can desperately land a single backstab before we are stunlocked and kittened backwards.
Steal should take away people’s ability to kitten about the thief class.
I agree. I have to sate my current despair by raging/crying/breakin down/numbing myself here on the forums.
If you love playing a class, it’s not fun to have it slowly picked apart, especially the point at which you stop caring, which I think many of us have.
I, for one, think it’s unfair that I have to deal with mesmers. I have to pay so much attention to which one is the real mesmer and this one time this mesmer killed me in like 2.3 seconds and it was totally OP. And they reflect my damage and stack confusion on me and have tonnes of tricky utilities and I can’t just sit there and autoattack them to death which is how I want to play because I’m 70% OF PLAYERS APPARENTLY.
I think that mesmers should have their clone/phantasm mechanics removed from them cause they are so OP.
QQ nerf mesmers QQ
This is what people sound like.
u don’t see us complaining about other classes
Why do you think that is? Do you think that there’s maybe a reason that everyone complains about thieves 10x more than other classes?
And no, “L2P” would not be an adequate reply- unless you sincerely believe that people who play thief are all better than people who don’t, you must understand that skill would be generally evenly spread among classes, and yes, experienced players of other classes also think thieves are bs.
So ask yourself WHY everyone hates thieves- think long and hard about it.
Because people PROVABLY have their pride hurt by being beaten in a 1 v 1 by a decent thief. They feel like they have been cheated somehow. If a good warrior, say, absolutely drops you out of nowhere (and I have seen it happen/had it happen to me), nobody complains.
If WvW is going to be all about 1 v 1s, then delete WvW from the game entirely.
Thieves are the stealthy, sneaky, tricky class, and therefore inherently good at 1 v 1 faceoffs.
Some forkwit tried to argue with me the other day, that thieves were still OP and that they could easily kill 10 people at once. TIE UP 10 stupid people failing to blind/stun, maybe, but most certainly not kill. If so, I would LOVE to see the footage of a thief consistently killing more than a couple people when playing against GOOD players.
Upleveled newbies jump into WvW with blue items and then get surprised with a thief burst when they are still getting used to the controls and mechanics, and thencry foul on the forums because it wasn’t fair that they weren’t prepared.
THAT’S WHAT THE WVW TRAINING SECTION IS FOR.
It seems like Anet will continue to nerf thieves/babysit every other class. What is a thief without stealth/spike damage?
Anet has only shown their desperation and lack of thinking things through with the WvW stealth trap. Thieves don’t play right in the middle of Zergs, they’re on the outside, if at all. There is no reason for the stealth trap to exist other than to attempt to find stealthed thieves in a keep.
What would have been better was buffing our damage/mobility a bit, and then adding an anti-stealth mechanic to rangers (perhaps) or to existing classes, somewhere in their traits.
Though I think the mian point is, is that something is inherently wrong when you have to implement entire features for every class to deal with the mechanic of a single class, a mechanic that the class is hated for and yet built around.
If the QQers had their way, stealth would be completely removed from the game as a mechanic, damage would be reduced by 50% overall and thieves wouldn’t be allowed to shadowstep because “they come out of nowhere and I’m like, I’m busy not paying attention anyway, so it would be really great if every class had like, a thief killing magic want attached to their foreheads so that thieves died instantly when they got too close to you”.
Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.
TLDR for Thieves; if we don’t slot Shadow Refuge, we are essentially forked.
Now THAT says something about the class. I don’t have ROOM on my utility slot to slot more than ONE stun breaker on 60 second cooldown.
All it takes is a decent player to stun me once or twice and I’m done.
Oh, man. Just the concept of adjusting steal itself and adding those “pockets” to carry several stolen skills would be so great, and in the right direction (for one of the first times in this classes history).
They would have to possibly limit you to only 2 or so of the same skill, though, for skills like the warrior spin imagine 3x the duration of that!
Having 3 x feathers would be handy as an escape, though. I mean we can already cnd off of people, but hey. This would give the class such a neat dynamic because we’d be constantly thinking about what we wanted/needed to steal and what we had already stolen to adjust our play to.
Anet needs to consider this, imo!
i am also fed up, and when i expressed my disappointment, i got an infraction+topic deleted
“complaining is not allowed on our forums because is not a constructive discussion/topic”EXCUSE ME ????
i purchased some pixels worth 40euros on another game and i am glad i did.
gw2 currently does not deserve my time or my money, as OP said.
the problems are between the chair and the screen: aka the users.
low iq and refusal to learn to counter thief, which lead to thief nerf each patch.
even in PVE, lol. why warriors are gods in pve ??
I know that feeling. Whilst thieves have been OP at points, I am beginning to tire of constant changes, for no reason other than other classes tearing up and exclaiming “b-b-bbut stealth isn’t fair”, their pride has been wounded by that time they got killed “out of nowhere”.
This recent change, this anti-stealth trap, is one of the final nails in the coffin of this class. There is only one class with this mechanic, really, they are adding an ENTIRE MECHANIC to WvW to counter ONE CLASS.
That isn’t intelligent class design. It’s amateurish. Childish. Uninspired. Mis-and-uninformed.
I can’t take this much more. In a few months, when thieves have had their damage nerfed again, are stealthless and teleportless, when they are not a thief class but a true miniature warrior, I will be playing Elder Scrolls Online, and having FUN playing my class.
I thought perhaps, that I (being an massive Elder Scrolls and Guild Wars fan) would be able to play ESO and continue to play GW2, and make gem purchases. It will only take one or two more changes, not just to the thief class but the numerous mistakes ArenaNet have constantly been making to encourage me to look elsewhere.
I really do love this game, I adore it. But it’s killing me. I will not be making any further Gem Store purchases (and I have made quite a few, for a poor student).
I have also heard of so many people being infracted/banned for complaining? Really now, censorship? An MMO that doesn’t listen to its users, whilst being the voice of reason will soon tank.
Wow, kinda sucks for anyone that wanted the minipet not because its rarity, but because well…. bunnies?
No bunny from SAB was kinda a disappointment as well.
BUNNEHS
Anet if you don’t offer up the SAB bunnoh, I am going to seriously break down into tears and ignore my tenancy agreements stance on in-apartment pets.
how would intensity stack? what u have to swing 2x instead of 1 to get rid of the condition? i may mis-type certain words on my tablet. but its written as said without proper punctuation/grammar. who i was referring to was not understandable bc even if you read it….it makes no sense. if you read mine…it may not be perfect. but its understandable. then again the way people speak is usually never correct in a perfect grammar sense.
FOR EXAMPLE :::: \
“If I were you, I would not advise being the first to cast stones at one’s grammar skills.
As for the main topic, I think the guy that suggested blind should stack intensity rather than duration is on the correct track. It would, probably, require little adjustment to the base duration. Overall, However, it would be a more desirable mechanic.”If a collegiate Professor of English were to correct/rewrite your message it would look more like that. About 20 fixes. Just sayin’ :p not picking on you…just pointing out nobody has used grammar well in their posts here….not even I. And that is coming from sombody with a bachelors.
As someone who appreciates and practices the art of writing (cough), I mean it when I say you don’t know anything about what you’re talking about.
The way he wrote it originally was perfectly fine and you simply introduced errors in your “correction”.
On the topic: I think thief should be given more slippery buffs. The devs keep telling us (whilst grinning wickedly) that our class is meant to be “slippery” an “escape artist” and yet cut us down every time someone kittenes about not being able to kill us.
Give us almost permanent swiftness, a billion more blinds (just one at a time isn’t enough, a single attack renders it useless) things like the deception skill tree doubling stealth time, etc.
Let glass cannons be so, and get mean crits, but please; reward us for going down the slippery alley when we do.
They do work, it’s just it’s not shown in the character sheet.
Same problem with Rune bonuses and such that also work yet don’t show on the character sheet.
Lame. Also noticed that HoTM treats the steady weapons as being as legendaries, so every time you want to delete one you have to type out the name, perfectly capatalised. :c
Superior sigil of accuracy doesn’t give my asuran thief any extra +stat to his critical chance.
I have the sigil on a dagger, isolated the problem by only equipping this single dagger. There is no change upon equip.
Does anybody else have this problem? I can upload footage or screenshots if needed.
I’m not sure if this has been mentioned previously, but the model for the Mystic Spike in particular is the same (red) model that is used for the inquest variant of this weapon.
All other Mystic Weapon models are the correct blue ones, it’s just the Spike (dagger) that is off.
Not game-breaking, but it’s hitting me right in the colour scheme.
