We have very low health pools to start with, not really a terrible thing mind you as the game is famous for: “la la la I’m killing everything with no probs, this is a ….OMG NOT THE FACE! NOT THE FACE!” Dead after 2x back to back hits of 12,749
So… I’ve found the MAGIC number in regards to our HP is between 15,500 and 17,000 Just enough to cushion you from the above one hit wonders but not so much you are neglecting other primary stats in place of a massive health pool (which for us is never going to be THAT massive)
Cruxiis – from reading your posts you might like to try a boon duration/dps hybrid build in which you dump points into boon duration for your group via the virtue trait line but an equal amount of effort into a dps build via knights/zerkers gear. Make sure to trait up so that everything you do is supporting something else, with this build no skill should stand alone. Boon duration/dps guards are very fun to play, very mobile and dynamic.
Oh, aim for a boon duration of 60-70%, going over this number is not of super high use as most your skills will be just about coming off their cool down timer as the boon is running out.
Finally, Altruistic healing is the foundation for any “newer” Guard, it is a GREAT skill but… once you are more comfortable you will find that its a bit of a crutch and you can indeed do more healing, better healing, better support and better dps without it…This comes from someone who LOVED AH for 6 months, until I really started playing with the numbers.

Just my two cents in regards to healing power… if you are not up over 1200+ (really 2000+) you are far better off placing that effort elsewhere. This comes from over a year playing only the Guard and trying to “buck the system” and be useful as a healer. Of note is that I run 99% of the time with guild members and old friends so there is a high level of cohesion in the groups.
At a glimpse I’m running:

Hammer with a focus on Symbols/Protection duration
All Clerics Ascended armor and all Clerics Ascended Trinkets
Dwayna x2, Water X2, Monk X2
This build is about boon duration/stacking, 100% up time on healing and Protection
Skill uses varies with the situation, of course.

Its hard to argue with the pure regen and healing from Dwayna runes for sure! The issue I had was the loss of boon duration which plays a large roll here. I might have to go back and test some more however! Good stuff!

I float around 1800 with NO boons running. (2200 in combat from Sigils/Food) I consider myself a “purist” in terms of support. Battle presence is ticking off around 300 points per second group wide for just….being there. In my testing I’ve found that healing only begins to outweigh the benefits of DPS (in a group) when you hit around 1600+… IMHO.
Dodge role healing with energy sigils on staff and shield is incredible
6/6 Runes of Dwayna for the regen that stacks with all other regens + battle presence
Mace+Shield primary
Condition removal via Virtues
All Clerics + Clerics Ascended
I run this build in WvW (with a few tweaks) and its VERY useful in Fractals at tier 48.
This builds allows most my groups to just “do their thing” and we do get the job done!
You REALLY have to love support for this build to be fun. Ive found my niche as a healer in a game where there are no “healers”

Hello mate, some advice from an “old guy” who has been running guilds for over 19 years across dozens of MMOs.
1) Create a website that people can visit and find out more about your guild
2) Post a plan that details out what you are offering people in your guild, why they should join you, where you are headed and what you plan on accomplishing
3) Describe what type of guild you are building, your focus and motivations behind running a guild
4) Make sure you have short, medium and long term goals in mind as to what you plan on doing with your guild
5) Tell us what makes your guild different from the 10,000 other guilds out there and more importantly why someone might wish to join a new guild vs an established and active one.
My best advice would be to look closely at the other posts found on this forum and see what your up against = )
These are just the very basics of running a guild, I wish you all the best in your adventure!

I am at work at the moment so not much time to chat = ) However, I think you will be surprised to find a guild meeting your exact requests… Older gamers, play hard with the time we have in game, no drama, no pressure and a foundation built on cohesion. We are on Tarnished Coast however, perhaps that would be ok with you though.

That said, I am honestly humbled and impressed with how well you all handled where this thread ended up going, even if off topic. Fortus, Id love to chat with you one on one at some point…while I stand by my decisions to run my guild as a 100% rep guild I am always on the look out for opinions that may sway me otherwise as I can foresee this as being part of future MMOs.

You don’t know myself so I cant really blame you for reading between the lines…. BUT… I care about my members, many I have know for over a decade… I have seen them marry, have kids, move from MMO to MMO and even been witness to a few RL passing…… I would never wish them or anyone any ill will or implement anything that may stop them from enjoying their game time, be that in GW2 or any MMO we find ourselves in.
That said, thank you sir, for your well written input and opinions, it does make me think on my position and that is of HIGH value to myself.

You must have had some terrible experiences in your past my friend, Im truly sorry. The tools Im asking for are to bring our guild closer together not the opposite. Though I can see how they may be used that way. I run Vanquish on TC… we are a close knit bunch that cares VERY little for a players in game accomplishments and puts an emphasis on the person behind the keyboard above all else. Granted we are an older bunch so this does help to a degree. We DO ask for 100% rep but that is because missing the day to day of guild chat breaks down overall guild cohesion and the close family feel we try to foster in Vanquish. I and my Officers know every member of the guild from those that have been with us for 10+ years to those that applied last week, we know what their goals are in game, their play times, what they are interested in etc… Not every guild that has the above tools at their disposal uses them in the ways you mention. Sorry this turned into a long wall of text but I felt the need to TRY and show you a diff side of things from someone who has run guilds for nearly 20 years of MMOs all the way back to text only.
Finally, I’m sorry this post got so quickly off topic… I was simply looking for some info = )
