Not upset mind you, just odd it seems so hard to fix…
My Zodiac Sword Skin is still not sell able or trade able as of 27Aug13 and there are none listed on the TP so Im assuming its not just me = )
If you are not yet 80 I always suggest to our new brethren to simply play with ALL the skills, swap stuff around, new gear, new traits and new ideas as much and often as you can.
When you hit 80 everything changes and THEN you can begin looking at a more perm and long term build. Prior to 80…learn all you can and experiment!
Its good to see you trying out your build, OP, but it has no real synergy between the skills, weapons and traits which just means more fun and games for you as you learn how each aspect works with one another! This was my fav part of being a new Guard a year ago at launch, the fun involved in the learning process.
I can confirm that as of 23Aug13 at 4:20 PST the Zodiac Sword Skin in my inventory, while no longer saying account bound, can NOT BE TRADED OR SOLD…. the options to do so simply are not there. Nor can it be mailed.
LOL “they fixed the zodiac sword” No… no they did not, still NONE on the TP and mine, while no longer saying account bound, is still not sellable, tradeable or mailable… Please get this sorted guys!
Our static times for running missions has changed to Sundays at 4pm PST for anyone looking to join while Legion is running theirs at 1pm PST most of the time, this allows for us to hit more players.

I just wish someone would address my posts… = ( Im not whining, not complaining not even UPSET… simply looking for any info on why THE SWORD OF THE ZOIAC SKIN is the ONLY skin of the ZODIAC set that is ACCOUNT BOUND on pick up…
There are LOTS of ZODIAC skins for sale, the skins ARE meant to be such… but try and find ONE sword of the zodiac skin… there are none, and Im assuming that’s casue its just like mine…bugged and account bound.
Look on the TP… there are NO Zodiac sword skins for sale, Im assuming this bug is related to this ONE skin, hrmmmm

I purchased my Zodiac sword skin with a ticket after the patch, around 8pm PST… not sellable and account bound. 2 Hour prior to that I had traded in a ticket for a staff skin of the zodiac, sold just find. Hrmmmm…. Im thinking it was related to the hot patch in between those times?
Hey guys just thought Id come post that I as well just traded a gold ticket for the sword of zodiac skin, I was going to give it to one of my guild mates but as soon as it went into my inventory it flagged as account bound. Earlier today, about 4 hours ago I bought a staff skin and sold in on the TP with no issue, same skin set… so something has changed in one of the very recent updates!

3) For everyone asking things like “well what about this? Or what do you do if THIS happens? How do you handle THIS?” I adapt and swap out skills,traits and gear as needed while trying to maintain the core of the build as much as viable = )
Someone asked about condition removal with this build and the lack of overall skills to counter conditions… Its simple, if I know I’m headed into a condition heavy instance I change out skills and traits accordingly.
Again, this is just a base guide and mainly its accomplishing what I wanted it to do…spark some conversation and new ideas about the healing Guardian!

@Wykumlin – At 48 being able to dodge the bosses agony shots trump all else…. In regards to the other mobs they are handled by a wide range of viable group tactics based on a HUGE array of variables.
@Crapgame – I wont lie, I run WvW maybe once a week and only with my guild… our small ops stuff (5-20 people) is focused and we operate as a unit. This changes things.
@Yaki – Your right, healing is small when every other hit from many dungeon mobs is FAR more then your healing but when you stack THIS build ON TOP of a well oiled group…magic happens. This leads to the next part of your post… True in a PUG you will be limited, obviously but again… I run a guild and we are a close knit cohesive bunch… CANT remember the last time I pugged… perhaps that something to keep in mind with such a focused build. FYI we have stacked two of these guard builds before in a number of runs including a 6 mins COF run and various others… THEY can work in synergy.

*This build has been used in level 48 fractals, WvW zerg and solo, Dungeons (all paths) as well as used to augment various speed runs.
After playing near 20 years of MMOs as a pure healer I was thrown for a loop when GW2 launched and they broke the trinity (Tank/Healer/DPS) So, I adjusted and from beta up until today have played only a Guardian. I have run every build imaginable including many of the “name brand” builds and there are some AMAZING builds out there, believe me! (love the Boonway)
That said, I have been trying to buck the system a bit and build the best healer I’m allowed in GW2 and after a year of playing I’ve found that in this build so far.
PLEASE understand this is not the end all be all healer build and in fact I’m still tweaking as I write this and I KNOW that there are better ways to maximize this build but there is also a fun factor in here for myself….FULLY optimized builds are great but not always fun to play for YOU.
This guide won’t go into HUGE amounts of detail as I feel that it needs to be tried first hand to see it in action but without further ado!
The Guild Wars 2 Cleric:
Purpose: Total selfless group support through boons and healing (YOU hit like a wet noodle)
Primary Stat: Healing power (over 1600 is a good goal but 1800 is very doable 2k+ requires some work)
Secondary Stat: Toughness (you are mainly a toe to toe healer and often running through the thick of it)
Primary Weapons: Mace and Shield (Sup. Sigil of Water and Life) – Secondary: Staff (Sup. Sigil of Energy) The staff is mainly a Might stacking stick and the energy rune is great for stacking up some vigor for the dodge heals.
Gear: ALL Clerics including Ascended (Exotic works just fine if you are not there yet)
Runes: Sup. Monk x2, Sup. Earth x2 and Sup. Water x2 (Healing bonus + Boon duration+Protection duration) There is some flexibility here, use what you feel works for you.
Best and often missed aspect of this build? 220-290 group wide regeneration ticking off every second for just you BEING there.
Trait Lines:
*As always swap traits depending on specific situations but below is the foundation of the build.
Valor 20: Strength in Numbers, Mace of Justice. 150 toughness for your group, 250 extra healing from the mace and 5% bonus damage.
Honor 30: Writ of Exaltation, Writ of Persistence, Battle Presence. Larger longer lasting symbols and group wide regen ticking off at 220-290 points per second based on healing power and a Virtues traits.
Virtues 20: Vengeful and Absolute Resolution. 25% retal. duration and condition removal and stronger passive group regen
Food: Anything that adds healing via % of or direct number OR Boon duration if you want 65-70% Boon up time.
Skills and a few tips:
This varies so much based on the situation im only going to point out a few things:
1) At this level of healing power Healing Breeze becomes a powerful player
2) Merciful intervention saw some changes in the last patch as to how it uses healing power, it’s now a pretty kitten nice heal for a member of the group about to go down, it can restore 40-60% of their health in one go * BY THE WAY – Traiting for “using meditations heals you” turns this into a huge self-heal… try it!*
3) Shouts will be benefiting from your boon durations and especially protection due to runes.
4) I almost always have Signet of Mercy slotted for the boost in overall healing unless I really need the slot for an instance specific skill. The full rez is also nice as well but can be hard to get off sometimes.
5) Getting just the right rotation on skills can really lay down some incredible healing, play with it!
Im looking forward to hearing from others on this build, Im a big boy and like to hear constructive criticism from the other heal and support guards out there but give this build a try, if you enjoy playing that nearly forgotten role of support in GW2 this build may just put a smile on your face!

I run the guild Vanquish and allied with the guild Legion of Honour, we run Guild Missions on Sat and Sundays usually between 1pm-6pm PST depending on other events we have going. We are not MEGA guilds in that combined we tend to have 20-40 people show up. We have all missions unlocked including Puzzle. We are not looking for a major Zerg here and actually we may be a better fit for smaller guilds that need a few extra people to complete their events and we have no problem rotating who hosts the mission and giving out temporary guild invites for credit.

Guild Size: We are small to medium by design, large enough to have people on around the clock yet small enough in that no one becomes a number. We are a close knit group where every member has a good idea what the member next to them is working on and needs.
Guild Demographic: We are an 18+ guild that caters to the “older” crowd – our average aged member is 35-45 with some younger and some older as well. We have a wide range of player types from those that play 10 hours a day to those that play 2 hours a week. We strongly encourage couples to apply as well!
Guild Prime Time and Zones: Our peak hours are between 3pm and 11pm PST on the weekdays with weekends being our busiest time.
Communication: We have a dedicated (no ads) website as well as a Vent server where use is encouraged but not enforced save for the more difficult instances and some WvW.

Incredible input and makes me rethink a number of things, I thank you for that.
That said I should have prefaced this by saying this build has served myself and my guild well in clearning ALL explore paths and developing our own speed runs through said explores as well. I will try out many of your suggestions but what my build came down to was “the guy” who soaks damage and draws mobs away from the group allowing them to focus on what they do best in any given situation. Your right about it being all about “killing the monster”, well said, but many times its about allowing the group to do just that and not have to worry about other variables, my build accomplishes that.
That said, all I play is a guard (no alts) and I am ALWAYS looking for new builds and new ways to enjoy my playstyle so I truly thank you for your advice and will be tring out much of what you suggest!

Id love some feedback from players who ALSO enjoy the toe-to-toe support/survive role
All things considered this is just a modified Alltruistic shout healing build but with a few tweaks and refinement. The idea behind this build is being able to take huge amounts of upfront damage and being able to negate many of the hard hitting initial attacks or skills. Secondary to that is tanking, group damage reduction and support via simply….staying ALIVE through the worst of the worst.

I will not go into the details of each trait but know they all revolve around more then their own abilities, each one is affected by a skill or another trait. i.e. Increased symbol duration for mace 2 (obvious one)
The main change is moving some traits around allowing for a blind when activating Justice (adding ANOTHER way to avoid all damage just could not be passed up) At this point I’m really looking at how many ways I can simply have the mob MISS me or their attacks ABSORBED all together…the ones that get through are being reduced by 44% (see below) not even counting the toughness I have stacked. I also picked up another source of retaliation via traits as well. I really like retaliation and may work on a retaliation/tanking build one of these days to test viability.
If you cycle abilities correctly you end up being able to ENTIRELY negate quite a few attacks back to back and one more if you swap in retreat. On top of this by the time you reach your last absorb/shield your first ones are popping back up.
Again Im banking on protection and protection duration being increased via two new runes (earth) and if you noticed I have swapped in Signet of Judgment… yes you lose a shout BUT it’s REALLY hard to argue with 10% damage reduction as a passive, couple this with protection (33%) and your looking at 44% decreased damage across the board at nearly 100% up time. (No, protection does not defend vs. conditions but with the number of condition removing abilities, conditions have never been an issue for myself.
Some notes:
This build revolves around Vit, Tough, Power and Healing Power (I suggest AC or HOTW armor sets + Soldiers runes/Earth)
Swapping in a mace/shield is VERY viable with this build and I find myself using such often (depends on my mood and what we’re running)
DPS is low with this build, obviously, however many of the traits and abilities result in retaliation being tossed up and it’s a none to shabby boon as it DOES help with the overall “wet noodle” factor.
There are so many ways to play the Guardian and thats whay I love about the class, in the end though I am a group supporter at heart and I prefer to do so from the thick of things, this build gets me that.
