[ETA] is a late OCX/SEA time guild with a focus is on GvG and open field fights. After recently moving to Tarnished Coast from Maguuma we’re looking for some motivated players to bolster our ranks . We’re competitive players yet somehow we manage to avoid being kittenholes most of the time. Our membership is friendly and diverse and our players live all over the world. We all get along really well.

Fun fact, Staff is used in more than just pve.
In WvW/sPvP staff ele builds, all 4 attunements get near-equal use because staff brings so much awesomeness in all attunements. If all but fire was to get a damage boost , then staff ele would probably become rather OP in non-pve situations.
I got this too, upon entering EOTM. (see my thread a bit further down the page) If it helps I spent most of the season on Jade Quarry, now on Sea of Sorrows.
So, upon zoning into EOTM at the start of the new 3 hour matchup, I recieved this. I dont even what.
I would also be interested in an answer to this…
“Gust” – Skill #3 in air attunement for Staff Elementalist. Extremely rare that it will actually hit anything to the point where it’s basically useless. Maybe make it work in a 45 degree cone or something like that?
Also “Churning Earth” – Dagger Earth Skill #5. Also impossibly difficult to hit anything with half a braincell. Amazing skill if it lands, but it rarely does. Maybe a shorter channel for a less powerful effect would be good?

The problem with Ele is that all the weapons are really pidgeonholed:
- staff has 19/20 AOE skills, and the only single-target skill (earth #1) is really weak
- sceptre has no CC
- M/H dagger has no range
- focus has no heals or mobility
*Staff is not designed to be for single target damage. We have a scepter for that.
*Sure sceptre has no cc, but if you were to run a dagger as an offhand…
*Why would you need range on it. Dagger is a close (er) range weapon, ie near melee. A Warrior’s greatsword or a guardian’s hammer have very little ranged abilities, so why should the closest thing the elementalist has to a melee weapon?
*focus is terrible in pretty much ALL aspects of the game.
Now don’t get me wrong – of course the ele could use some improvements. But your complaints seem to have very little logic behind them. Staff is great for big group fighting- static fields, water fields, meteor showers and tons of other aoe to deal decent damage to a lot of people. D/D is viable for group play also, and that or S/D is also good or roaming. The class really doesn’t have as many problems as people make it out to.
That means your server is not high population – it is very high. Very high population servers have not been discounted.

That’s the one I run with in an organised guild group, so as you start off I would reccomend starting with more P/V/T gear and gradually moving into that.
As an oceanic player, it’s a little annoying. T1 NA seems to be literally the only place that has reasonable amounts of oceanics to fight with/against, and going against t2 servers will be boring for us (I’m on JQ – have been ticking above 500 all through my timezone each night against SoS/FA)
But it’s much better than 2 leagues. That would have been enough to make me quit the game.

Why not make the #2 Skill in water atunement on Staff (Ice Spike) a blast finisher? It feels like it should be when cast, and would provide at least an extra blast to such a field-heavy profession.

I don’t see the weapons as too much of an issue tbh. They might be a little annoying to get, but it’s not a game breaking stat increase. However I am genuinely concerned about when ascended armor comes out, if it is of similar difficulty/cost to getting the weapons then it will cause quite a lot fo problems I think…
There are 2 main flaws with this complaint.
1. Who actually cares. You can get those ranks by following a blue tag for hours and hours, it’s not a huge achievement.
2. When enemies see the Bronze _ rank, most would know roughly what level that is. So, being a bronze ____ is more impressive than legend to most people anyway.
3. (Yes I added a third) The only time you ever see that title is when you look at your wvw level page thing. You never ever see it anywhere else, and nobody from your server sees it at all. If it really annoys you that much for the 1 minute you look at that page at a time, just move the box so you can’t see it or something. Although it really shouldn’t annoy you that much.

I assume you mean NA? It’s about 20g to move to pretty much half of the EU servers.
Biggest tip ever: Encourage the use of voicecoms. Because 9/10 times, a same size zerg fight will be won by the zerg on voicecoms (if there is one)
Speaking only in terms of med-large scale WvW fights, Eles are one of the most in-demand and useful classes in the game. Sure their AoE might not do quite as much damage as a necro, but water fields, fire fields, static fields and meteor showers? Amazing. Even D/D is used very commonly by organised guild groups in WvW, for the on the move healing (water 5 and evasive arcana) and aurashare.
They will probably never be the most damaging class in the game, and I’m perfectly ok with that. But a a support class they are completely invaluable. And hey, if you want damage, try casting Tornado right after Meteor shower :P
In my opinion at least, and with the other buffs the rune gives, it’s really not worth it. Sure you will get confusion on a few people in a large fight, but they will likely clense it off right away if they are a decent player or with a decent group. Other runes would give far more effective buffs that work with better builds the ele runs. If you look at it in terms of a roaming staff ele build, well… It doesn’t really matter what runes you use, you’re suicidal :P
Not a bad idea actually. The only problem is that with the current random-ish matchups, servers caught in a badly losing matchup would have a lot to complain about on the forums (EG the current Elona/FSP/Gandara matchup).

When you get extremely annoyed that you have to turn your head to look behind you IRL rather than just holding a button.
Ele is a horribly complicated class to play well.
It has some very useful skills but they are scattered throughout a huge array of ‘meh’ skills and you need to constantly swap ‘attunement’ (read weapon) to get at them.
Juggling the many cooldowns by memory, i.e. without being able to see the counter most of the time makes this a nightmare.
I disagree completely. Ele is by far the most fluid and fun class I have played (I have 80 warrior, guard, necro and ele). If attunement swapping is really an issuefor you then maybe change your key bindings a little bit or something, after a short time of playing ele I barely even notice that I’m doing it :P
The cooldowns aren’t actually much of an issue either tbh. In fact I find it to be less of an issue that with other classes, because with ele as soon as you finish casting one thing another is ready again. Just get a bit of a rotation going.
If nobody minds me interjecting here, I think it is worth mentioning that the two guilds you have mentioned moved to Gunnar’s Hold. T7. Although not quite to the same degree, we face all the same issues your server does.
Also with the suggestion to providing a power buff to the outmanned status, that would destroy roaming completely. Good luck getting anybody to fight you 1 on 1 if you have a power boost that is high enough to compensate for numbers on the map.

I’m suprised this thread doesn’t have a lot more attention, you raise a lot of very good points.
Specifically with the waypoints, I agree. Although I don’t think they should be spawn only, the major issues is when there are waypoints on Bay and Hills in the borderlands and Stonemist in EB. Maybe restrict them to just the Garrisons and Keeps in EB, because really they only remove 30 seconds or so from travel time anyway.
Even if that sort of change does not take place (and lets be honest, it is prety unlikely that it will) I think the whole timer aspect of the waypoints when a keep is under attack needs to have something done about it. Sure being able to spam the waypoint to move a zerg to a keep is useful for defenders, but it makes it pretty kitten difficult for a small “ninja” team to take hills while the enemy is on the other side of the map if they can just waypoint directly inside to push the attackers out.
In my experience the staff is too AoE based to be viable for roaming/small group. You can however put out massive dps in larger situations.
Fire builds can actually be viable too; I often run 30/0/0/20/20 picking up more fire damage, quicker fire recharge and might from casting as teh fire traits and it works uite well. However having 30 in arcane and water tends to make you a lot more useful to everybody else.
D/D is a lot better for pvp/wvw in my opinion, I usually stick on staff for pve.

Although I am obviously slightly biased towards Gunnar’s being from there, I still say it is a great choice. I only remember gettting skill lag during those massive SM fights on reset, apart from that there is virtually none. We also have quite a few good guilds, and an extremely strong primetime.
Of course we do lack a bit it off-peak coverage, I would know as (being Australian) I usually end up being one of the 10 people defending everything we have during those times :P But we still do end up doing well in all of our match-ups, and if you just want to have fun in WvW then primetime is fantastic.
I should also mention that there is usually never queues for any of the maps unless it is reset or occasionally on the weekends. Advantages of being a low tier server
