Is anyone else getting errors trying to connect to log-in servers tonight? I havn’t played since the game came out, and just updated it. When I try to connect I get the “The game client is unable to gain access to the log-in server at this time….” error.

Not sure if its me or the server, all the “is it up” sites say that the servers are responding to a ping, but not sure if there is an ArenaNet site that has better information about this.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Well i put myself in the DMZ, I was able to download the patch, and I can log in to other MMO’s. I have even turned off anti-virus and windows firewall and set it to run as admin.

The fact that no one is responding makes me think the issue is only on my side though. Not sure if there is a known issue I am not aware of or what.

SOLVED: Cuz im dumb. PeerBlock.exe did not quit correctly and was hung in the process list. That was the issue.

Way point prices intended to be high?

Has there been a red post on way point prices yet? The other day a guildie needed help and the round trip was going to cost around 9s so everyone told him no. Was wondering if this is working as intended or they are going to fix it.

Havn’t been on the forums for a while, so thought I would ask if anyone has seen anything.

Are you doing most your damage with hits or from fire/bleed? Was thinking about trying full earth/fire and water to ten.

I have a set of the normal number garb, Power/Precision/Crit Damage, but tired of getting face rolled.

For PVE would it better to go Power/Prec/Vit or Power/Prec/Toughness?

Anyone having any luck as daggers with Condition Damage in place of Precision? I dont know if the crits are popping as well as I want, and they will be hitting less hard after moving in to more survivability.

This game is mostly about PVP, but a lot of people came to it not knowing that. I am loving the game for the most part, but I have a feeling that there will never be true gear progression like most PVE centered games have because it would throw off the PVP level playing field.

So would you guys be mad if there was PVE only gear in an expansion later? Have it how it is now with a set that is pretty easy to get, and the exact same as everyone else, then another set that you get from dungeon drops that are not the exact same?

Just wondering if that would tick off the PVP people or not.

More importantly, how do we 80’s make the money for all the gold sinks + armor? It’s been a week and I’m still trying to get full exotic armor, nevermind weapons and jewelry.

You aren’t INTENDED to get FULL Exotic or all sets of high end weapons in a WEEK….that’s why the prices are right for travel so you have to go off your farming beaten path and do something else to get money so you can afford other things.

Game is WAD hurray for Anet in their wisdom.

Although I would like to agree because I am patient enough to take time to get my gear together, in the end I must disagree with you.

The reason I disagree with you is this: If you are not intended to get full exotic gear within a week, why is it possible to do so? The fact is that there are already level 80s running around in full exotic gear. The hardcore players if you will and they are the ones who already figured out ways to make gold that most people don’t do or even know exist.

Because of this there is a rift between that group and the new level 80s that are considered undergeared because they need more time to get their gear together.

The waypoint costs hurt the casual player more than the hardcore player. That’s the problem, not the fact that there are many money sinks.

Everytime anyone says something isn’t intended, I just look at if it’s possible and legal within the game rules. If it is, then it is intended.

i think the people that are rich got that way running dungeons before they nerfed them. Honestly I think that the amount you got form a dungeon wasn’t that bad considering how much things cost in the game. The exp gain from them was extremely high, but the gold seemed low for most of them really.

I sense a lot of trolls in this forum…Rhongomyniad.5081….More like 15-30 mins. To get to lions arch from the south 75 area I spent about 10 mins running then used a WP.

I got the same problem atm. In cof runs i cant even afford the repair costs of the run anymore.

The problem is that you’re repairing a lot, which comes from a problem of dying, which comes from a problem of not being good at this game.

I’d suggest taking care of the problem at its source instead of moving up the ladder and claiming there’s a problem there.

This one, im not sure if mentally challenged or troll.

You are talking about a game with random aggro, if you pull 4 mobs, and they all target you instead of spread the damage, the 2’nd shot downs you, the 4th shot kills you. This can happen in less than 2 seconds. Plus no one knows these bosses yet, we wiped on the first boss in 3rd option explorer mode like 9 times before we happen to find the troll trying to pass him.

I understand you guys enjoy the game, and Im sure you were one of the people using CM runs over and over to stock pile gold. Thats fine, but not everyone had a chance to do that. Now there is a problem where half the people are filthy freakin rich, and the other half are dirt poor and can’t play the game.

You have to excuse 80% of the players for buying a game with dungeons, gear evaluation, crafting, and MMO team combat for expecting there to be a reason to play past 80 in PVE.

I hit 80 today, already have the best gear pieces in the game (my wep), and after I finish up the 5 mans on explorer mode (which I have been having fun with) the game is over for me.

I am thinking they really should have advertised this game as a pvp arena game, with a long lead up. 1-80 is done purely for PVP, after you hit 80 there isn’t much to do other than craft (but like I said, normalized items means this is pretty useless) or PVP. Sure you can run endless dungeons for cosmetic wear, but all you are getting is a shiny version of what everyone else has.

I can see why this game was big in every other country but the US. Outside of aesthetics there is no replay value in PVE.

I’d say that’s a pretty big overstatement. I wouldn’t say the game is ‘big in every other country outside the US’; I’m in a guild composed of Aussies and Europeans and everybody I’ve talked to has been a bit disappointed, except for the pure PvPers, but even they complain about balance issues, although those are easy to fix.

My mistake, I meant GW1. GW2 has sold a ton of copies, but I am sure that within 2 months the actual number of people playing will fall dramatically. The game is good, beautiful, the story line was good too. Just most people PVE, and PVP on the side in MMOs, even the PVPers raid.

When I was still leveling I kind of thought the issue was overblown. Now that I have hit max level pretty much spend all of my time bleeding silver I understand.

Everything costs money. Fighting in repairs, farming in picks/axes/sickles, crafting in mats, running around in way points, TP is posting fees…The list seems to go on and on. I am just bleeding money, and not making near enough to sustain game play. After buying gear I had 3 gold when I hit 80; from WP’s, repairs and crafting I am down to 80 silver. I have been doing events when I go by them, and I am doing quests on maps for explorer. They don’t come close to the amount I’m putting out.

Has there been a developer post about this? Just wondering if there is a plan to change it, or the answer to buy gold from the Black Lion Trading.

I noticed that bug reports, and what looks like “paper work” messages in the Dev Tracker. Is there a reason for this? Is there a way to just look at Devel team posts from a subforum?

If not it would be nice to implement, since (I am guessing) most people are not going there to see if someones UI bug was fixed. Its kind of hard to keep track of actual posts and weed out the “clutter” posts.

EDIT: The reason I ask if the patch notes don’t mention how the new dungeon nerf works and someone said its on the forums, for the life of me I can’t find it.

The company that makes the game sells gold (Gems, that sell for gold). You are not going to catch them giving people a break on money management. The poorer you are, the more likely you are to buy gems for gold or items. This is why you can’t make money from dugeon runs anymore in my opinion.

Honestly, if they keep the game content up (Add dungeons, PVP maps, world events….you know, stuff we wanna do) there is no reason they shouldn’t want to be paid for the development costs. I would personally rather see dungeons sold for 5 bucks instead of gold sold though.

I have a feeling its going to create a “pay to win” system in the end. But I am sure smarter minds than mine have thought this over before the game came out.

Yup. I am seeing this trending now.

I would pay a monthly fee… it’s not like I haven’t almost the majority of my gaming life. (I was one of the first in Ultima Online… like day 1 I was there… with friends and familly going: “WTF: you are paying a MONTHLY FEE??!!!” )

I would pay a monthly fee to avoid paying for travel costs. I just don’t want to see this nickle and dime garbage on in game currency. Especially when the tool tips themselves say something about a miniscule cost. Yeah ok. It’s not miniscule when you are awarding us like 1-1.5 silver per event… the quickest ones being like 8 mins… the longer ones more like 10-15 mins or more. Especially if you factor in other costs in the game like repair costs, crafting costs, buying manuals for your own character advancement, buying gems from other players or even buying things on the market or for your alts. There’s PLENTY of gold sinks already. There’s no need to pick my bank apart on travel fees.

Anyways. I’ll leave it at that for tonight.

Last I checked paying monthly fees didn’t stop wow from charging for quick travel. And their quick travel wasn’t even that quick.

Also, aside from repairs and the hilariously cheap trait retraining name me one of these “plenty” of other gold sinks

Yeah, but in WoW the travel fees are around the same they are here, and a quest reward is upwards of 15-20g. % wise its like 5-10% of a quest, here its like 200-400% of a quest.

I see a lot of posts saying “Oh you want to beat the game in the first week, your uber dumb”. I don’t think its that we want to beat the game, we just want to know there is a path to it. Right now they are saying “Do what you want”, what they are really saying is “We dont know what to have you do”, at least it seems that way.

A lot of people see progression in a game as dungeon clearing. I know there are no raids (My god, could imagine getting 30 people with random agro tables taking out clothies?) so a lot of people are looking at 5 man dungeons as game progressing, and since they have made it clear they don’t want us to “farm” them, we are kind of lost as what to do.

Not everyone finds running around a map till you have been on the top of every mountain as fun as others. The combat in this game is solid and fun, I would rather see harder 5 mans come out, and figure out how to give us rewards for finishing them. Maybe a dungeon that works like a raid, once a week, hard bosses, good loot drops. Even if its long and is saved.

So what are we doing now?

The dynamic events are fun. I have been grabbing them up when I see them, and as more people join the fights feel more epic. But you can’t really get a group of friends together and run around a map hoping that you will find hard one (like a world boss), people have things to do at different time. Some times its an hour before I find one that is an actual challenging fights.

I know that a lot of people came from GW1, and maybe the game was based around walking around a map for an hour to find something fun to do. But a lot of people didn’t. Most people play MMO’s to play with friend against challenges to get better gear.

The more I play, the more I am realizing its all about time investment. If you live in your mom’s basement and can play 10 hours a day, you will find better gear running around the map than someone who comes on and plays harder fights (dungeons) for an hour or two a day. That is fine, I am just disappointed too, almost all PVE players play to fight the big fights, not to run around the map and kill 40 crabs that are invading a town of toads.

So what are we doing now?

That is not nuff said. Did you read my post? What are you doing? Are you guys both just exploring the map? I am having trouble with just question right now, I can do 3 or 4 quests and have enough silver to use the waypoints just once, or I can run around harvesting and get a pile of onions with no other ingredients to make anything.

And Avatar, like I said inb4 – Running around the map really doesn’t do much but get you exp, then you have spend money to get back to something worth while. (well worth while to me) What are you getting out of dungeons? Since the nerf on money, and the buff on difficulty I have been losing money going in to them. I get like 5 silver, then spent like 9 on repairs.

So what are we doing now?

I was running dungeons for gold to get gear, and for the bags of chocolates to make food. Right now I am exploring the world a little (mainly doing my personal missions) but the rewards are really really crappy.

I understand they don’t want us to run dungeons anymore, and world exploration reaps really bad rewards. Also the only way I can tell to get good items is crafting, but that requires those bags from dungeons that we are not supposed to be running.

So is PVP the only thing to do in this game? Was that the intention? I know I came here hoping for fun and interesting dungeons with the new combat system. With them telling us the game is not about that, I am kind of unsure what the game is about. Is anyone finding anything fun to do?

Inb4: Get 100% world explorer….Cuz…..No…That’s a grind for when everything else is done in my opinion.

The nerf to dungeons, anyone know if that was a strait EXP nerf? A nerf if you do it to much? What buffs were given to CM, because its a LOT harder now. Are first runs of dungeons going to give more exp?

There can not be 10-20 man raids in this game. If you think there can, your not playing someone walking around in cloth. I am constantly getting one shot by random ranged attacks in dungeons. I will dodge one or two, then have nothing to stop the barge that comes after that, and that’s just from 4 mobs. Most of the “random aggro” normal shots (ie there is not telegraphing of incoming damage) take me down to half health and I am fully speced for vitality.

The only way you would be able to do a “raid” would be to have an instance where there is nothing but a boss. either or ten mobs randomly targeting people would just smash anyone not wearing plate. I am personally rerolling just because of random the game is arleady, the elementalist was fun, but its not fun to randomly die with nothing you can do about it. Some times your a god (When your only targeted by 1 or 2 at a time) and some times you can’t help but just die and hope someone gets you up (When you have 3 or 4 shots aimed at you in a row). No one will want to raid with that much randomness in the game.

I have been trying to go staff and stay as far back as I can. Now that I’m 45 it keeps me from getting one shot in AC story. But now that I am moving up, it seems like they have shots meant to take out my defenses specifically. (The snipers have a 4 shot attack, all my shields last for 3 shots, the bot in the beginning shoots 4 missiles not 3, his AoE lasts 7 seconds not 5….)
I like the focus off hand stuff, I think I am going to dump everything I can in earth and got D/F. I am not sure how it will work out being that much closer, but I am hoping that the defense it gives will work as a better trade off.
Its embarrassing dying every pull to be res’d only to die again right away.

I am using air and water CDs every time they are up to blind and put distance between us, as well as stance dancing in shields and blinds but it just seems like there is to much damage in a single shot.

Maybe its time to check out youtube and see what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for the advice though, both of you. I will try changing up some skill slots and see if that helps. If not its off to play a melee for me I guess.

I am having a lot of trouble in dungeons. I have re-bought all my gear (level 30ish) to give me toughness and vitality (other than my weps), re-speced for more toughness (10 points in earth), and I dodge anything that I can see coming.

I still spend more time on the floor trying to heal myself then I do running around. I use blind (for 3 seconds I “tank a mob”) and immobilize (This is pretty useless as most mobs will just stand and fire at you). My other two slots are filled with Elementals because they seem to pull aggro and help me live when they are up.

It seems like for the most part, the damage that is killing me in a couple of shots and is not telegraphed in anyway; it’s meant to be soaked. The few things that do damage me with red rings popup and start the bleeds less than .5 seconds after the ring appears. I am getting around 40 FPS in dungeons so I don’t know if its a graphics issue.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I have spent a lot of time trying to get “tankier” but it doesn’t seem to work. I have to wonder why there are even clothy classes in a game where the damage is dealt equally. Shouldn’t we all have the same armor? The random shots that go out take me down way faster than my heal comes off CD (normally I die with 3 or 4 seconds left on it, while dodging around trying to evade the best I can).

I am lost, I am starting to wonder if the Tank/Healer/DPS roles are in MMO’s because they are needed to some extent. The heal skills I have (Water) don’t do near enough healing to be useful. They heal for 50-80 a tick at my level, and only if you stand in one place. The mobs are dishing out 400-500 damage per shot. I’m lost on how this tankless, healess world is supposed to work for anyone but heavy armor players.

TLDR:
Any entimentalists out there that are actually surviving dungeons? If so what are you using?
