kitten you fixed NA. I’m in NA and I have the same issue still. Futhermore, the assertsrv workaround didn’t work.
At least how I see it. If it’s rock paper scissor in a game. Then say a team with rock vs a team with scissor, rock is going to always win, no matter what happens. It’s made to be imbalanced like that. The smaller the team, the higher chance of having something that counters you and eats you into the ground.
Having a 1v1 balance will make it so that you are able to match whatever is thrown at you. If 1v1 is balanced throughout all classes for a game. Then it comes down to actual cooperation for a team match, because everyone is on equal ground, not if everyone can smash the other person because they’re the right class.
This is assuming they’re all at the same skill level.
Now to do this is in reality, very very very hard. It is easier to cop out into doing a rock paper scissor system as opposed to actual 1v1 balance.
No one likes to get beaten by a keyboard turning clicking baddie just because his class is better in a 1v1 fight. NOBODY
Hatred and frustration on the forum are a clear indication of what people like and dislike about competitive games.
The main AD for this game was : Play the way you want and that turned to be an outrageous kittening lie.
Choosing the path of least resistance…amazing work ethic..
P.S wanna know why you struggle with your gamemode?….because people bloody hate to be killed by 3 button wonder builds against which their profession can’t do nothing about..food for thought
TL;DR at the end.
Here’s the thing. You’re not wrong about anything in particular, but you are over-simplifying one thing: class balance. Again, you’re not “wrong.” In theory, a game with real 1v1 balance WOULD be less of a dagger up the kitten than the way the game is now. BUT, and I’d argue this is true of any MOBA/MMORPG, where the classes are expected to be unique and different from one another, balancing while keeping the classes different, is nearly impossible.
Now, I’ll grant you, Anet is probably one of the kittentiest game Devs when it comes to PvP balance. Their idea of balance is, in my opinion, nothing short of a tragic comedy. But even the best MOBA/MMORPG devs will tell you that keeping classes/characters unique, fun, and fresh, while balancing them in a 1v1 scenario has proven to be pretty much unrealistic. The simple fact is, the more interesting and unique an ability is, the harder it is to balance it because it’s so much more than just numbers: math just doesn’t cut it.
TL;DR, Yes the devs promised us build diversity, but it’s bullkitten in this game, just like pretty much every other game. You either get depth and diversity, or you get class/ability balance: you do not get both at the same time in the same game. Also the Anet PvP devs in particular suck monkey balls when it comes to class balance.
Hi Ominous! I don’t believe our recruitment officer was on yesterday, I will ping her and if she can’t get to it today I will handle it this evening.
Thanks for getting back to me, but I think perhaps with Blackgate being completely locked, maybe this won’t work out. I didn’t realize that full servers were impossible to transfer to, I thought Full meant that there were queue-times to get online or something (as I mentioned in my app, I’ve only ever transferred the one time, way back when, so I’m not familiar with the system.)
I think for now, I’ll look for another guild, but if blackgate ever opens up, I’ll be sure to re-apply and see if we can’t make something happen, assuming I don’t manage to find a good fit with another guild in the meantime. Thanks again.
We’re looking for more great individuals to join our ranks!
Hi, I applied to your guild about 24 hours ago, and I just wanted to know if I should expect a response to my application anytime soon.
Since the MMR patch i never had a game with less than 2 thiefs.Does the matchmaking now ignore class or what?!?! Its worse than ever…Please fix this fast Anet 2 thiefs = instaloose
I think the real issue is that Thief is not easy to play, at all. The class has one viable spec in the current meta, and is the squishiest class in the game, by far. For whatever reason, a lot of people play Thief and most of the are terrible. Hell, I main Thief and I can honestly say I’m barely above average in terms of skill.
TL;DR: It’s the players, not the class, though the class is certainly far from auto-win.
I can’t say much about the skill of my team, but I’ve been noticing a LOT of rage-quits this past week, for both teams mind you, not just my own.
Well, Medi-Guard burst is not really an issue because it takes time to apply the burst and it can be countered with a stunbreak. It’s not INSTANT damage. Plus DPS-medi Guard defense is comically weak, at least in the case of a glass-cannon Thief, you have stealth/Shortbow/Shadow Step to gtfo if things go bad; a DPS Guard just has to take it to the face, so imo Guards aren’t really a “problem.”
.
How does stunbreak counter dps guardian burst? I can dodge every actual skill they use but if they hit me with a few auto-attacks I take 10k+ burn damage and end up dying purely from autos while they block/invul/heal EVERYTHING I do.
DPS guardian is sleeper overpowered.
Are you high? Because either we’re not talking about the same thing, or you’ve been hitting Mary Jane so hard, she’s about to go to the police as a battered woman. You die purely from auto attacks by a DPS Medi-Guard who BLOCKS?
Wtf is he going to BLOCK with? DPS Medi-Guard is Great Sword / Scepter + Focus. You literally have ONE blocking skill, and that’s “Shield of Wrath” which is on a 45-sec CD and can only block 3 attacks, and if it DOES block 3 attacks, it dissipates without exploding for the 1700 dmg burst WHICH IS A CORE PART OF THE DPS-MEDI GUARD BURST.
“Strike” 698 damage
“Vengeful Strike” 698 damage
“Wrathful Strike” 1047 damage
Those numbers are my Auto-attack values with my Full DPS Medi-Guard meta build with Zerker Amulet. How you manage to die from just those Autos is frankly incredible. You are incredibly bad, sir, that’s really my only theory. Either that, or my first theory of your ungodly consumption of the Devil’s Lettuce is right on the money.
Final thought: are you sure it’s a Guardian smashing you in the dirt with autos, or is it a “Deathly Claws” Necro wearing the skin of the Guardian he just sodomized like a marionette, blasting you in the face with chain “Deathly Claws?”
RE: the OP, yeah Power-Claw Necros are pretty obnoxious, but they are susceptible to Boon Strip. If you don’t happen to HAVE Boon Strip, well then I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Well, I guess if you want to make sure that you never see another Thief in sPvP again, then sure, buff DPS Medi Guard.
Yep, this just happened to me. My Ranger is now stuck in the EOTM loading screen and I can’t get him out. ANet please.
It has gotten steadily worse and worse, and for some reason the Devs are not addressing the core problems in the game. I’ve already pretty much packed my bags and left this game. I’m playing Forge and Dota2 while I wait for Wild Star.
I’ve been trying to work the amulet into a certain build, but I haven’t decided on keeping it yet.
People pick asura because their model is tiny, and while all hitboxes are the same size, the fact that they are tiny makes their animations extremely hard to indentify. It grants a kitten advantage in pvp that’s hard to make a case against because people will start crying about “wanting to play their character” and other nonsense like that.
The moment I figured this out, I re-rolled an Asura for that very purpose. Asura are THE argument for why there should be visible cast-bars in this game.
Based on reading the march end survey it’s easy to conclude that a majority of players consider Elementalists to be slightly on the OP side. I don’t understand why this is the case based on what I’ve seen while playing, for the following reasons:
1. It seems like a majority of elementalist damage burst avoidable because they are AoE based.
2. While elementalists do have some stun breaks, from my fights against Eles they seem to be very prone to CC. Even if you don’t kill them (likely unless you are with a group) you can force them to use up their few defensive cooldowns and retreat.Compare this to Mesmers:
1. Blurred Frenzy, most OP skill I have ever seen. 2 seconds of invulnerability on a 10 second cooldown, wtf? What other class has 2 seconds of invulnerability on a 10s cooldown? I’m not even considering the extra burst.
2. Ilusionary Leap, while technically not a stun break can basically nullify the effects of immobilize or snare or freeze. On a 12 second cooldown.
I think the real problem with Elementalists is that in addition to everything else they do it’s essentially impossible to push them off of a point. I’m not saying Mesmers are bad, but I don’t think they’re OP, in fact I think they’re at a level of strength that is healthy for the game and the devs should try to bring every other class to that level, be it though nerfing or buffing.
You can most certainly push a Mesmer off of a point, and quite easily I might add, depending on your class (not Warriors lol.)
But actually though, pretty much any class aside from a warrior and maybe a thief can shove a Mesmer off of a point, I’ve yet to see a class effectively do the same to an Ele without untold amounts of blood, sweat, tears, and human sacrifice.
EDIT: silly spelling error.
ROFL “Blow it up yours” I don’t even play Warrior, but you get a +1 for this.
My god what a horror experience.
3 Of my friends and me decided to do tournaments for a change since we always PvE together. We are between rank 6 and 15 so not that experienced in tPvP yet.
We enter and where do we end up …
Match 1 it’s us versus a team of level 40s in the same guild.
Match 2 it’s us versus a team of level 30’s in the same guild.
Match 3 it’s us versus a team of level 20’s + 30’s not in the same guild. Why the f are we placed against such organised teams? We are getting our kitten handed to us (100 – 500 loss) and after this experience I will personally never set foot in that place again after finishing my monthly this month (for the laurels).
What a joke.
p.s. Yes I’m mad.
Get DUNKED SON! But in all seriousness, I agree that whatever “MMR” they have in place for tPvP is either non-existent, or completely broken to the point of silliness. I’m an r31 in PvP so I know a thing or two about sPvP and I can honestly say that stomping lowbies is boring as kitten. Moreover, when I solo-queue and get matched against a crew of r50+ goons, I get rickrolled just as hard as you.
TL ; DR = Anet, your MMR system is garbage, and the fact that you’re not fixing it is going to drive people away from what is already a dwindling tPvP scene. Wake up and fix yo kitten please.
I cannot express how much I agree with literally EVERYTHING the OP said. I’ve been too lazy to actually make a post about it, but god kitten you actually took the words right out of my mouth. +1 and let’s hope ANet wakes up and listens.
In the sPvP Mists, I’ve found an issue with Sigil of Superior Doom. Actually several issues. First, if I try to swap from a weapon set that has an on-swap sigil i.e. Sigil of Superior Leeching, TO a weapon set that has Sigil of Superior Doom, the Doom sigil simply will not activate for me.
I tried the same thing with Sigil of Superior Leeching and Superior Battle, and they work just fine (being on opposite sets, not on the same set of course.) It seems to be an issue unique to Sigil of Superior Doom and it’s a real pain in my kitten because two of my tPvP/sPvP specs rely on Doom working properly.
Please for the love of God fix Doom. Also, this bug occurs on my Thief, I haven’t bothered trying other classes.
Why should he be capable of ‘handling abuse’? There is no excuse for it whatsoever. So after receiving a childish abusive tirade from a stroppy teenager he should have just apologised for disturbing them and left? Great way to encourage anti social behaviour don’t you think? If they had explained the situation to the OP politely I am sure he would have been more than happy to accomodate them.
I once joined a server with 8 players as I dislike the zerg fest of 8 v 8. I received a similar welcome and stayed until the end of the game. If this pro guild had explained what they were doing politely, of course I would have left immediately.
Yes, there should be a duel feature. It is not the fault of the duellers that they are forced to take a server to try out new builds etc. However, it is certainly not the fault of the OP that he hit the ‘play now’ button, which is supposed to be the feature you use to be matched with players of similar rank, and he was landed with these a holes.
I’m just sayin…there’s a really easy way to avoid the whole situation. Also, this is the internet. If you can’t handle verbal abuse…then honestly you need to consider just getting off the net, seriously.
Several things to say here. First off, you’re clearly new to the sPvP scene so I’ll get you up to speed. Anet has brought this kind of thing on themselves by not having a dueling system. Second, this game punishes bad decision making in PvP HARD. This means that often “helping” a teammate is a great way to get you and your teammate killed, or cause your team to start losing the overall match. Third, and this is key: do not use the “Play Now” button. Take the time to find a server with an open spot and join it. That way, you won’t be stepping on anyone’s toes, and you’ll avoid a lot of this verbal abuse that you seem to be incapable of handling.
As someone who plays Thief religiously in sPvP hot-join and Tournaments, I can honestly say that in my humble opinion, there IS one aspect of the Thief class that is OP and that is their burst. Specifically, a glass-cannon Backstab or Pistol-Whip Thief, though backstab is the real culprit imo. Basically, the damage that they can put out makes playing a steady-dps build of any kind, completely pointless. You need at minimum 2600 armor to realistically survive a full-out glass-cannon thief assault, and that’s just a little over the top.
I play Thief, Mesmer, and Engineer primarily and I’m a PvP-monkey. I’m not opposed to WvW, but I don’t do much levelling with regards to PvE. I’m 18+ and I have Mumble, Skype, Vent, TS3 and Axon. I’m looking for a guild that has spaces on both paid and free tournament teams as I can always use more Tickets and practice. I’m on the Dragonbrand server, but since my interest is mostly sPvP feel free to make a recruit offer even if the guild is based elsewhere. Please add me in-game to talk about potential recruitment offers, thank you.
