For me, it was a combination of the Ascended Gear, my guild friends ONLY wanting to do Fractals, and the disappointment from the Cantha statements (as in its not in the works). I like a lot about the game, but the combination of getting burned out by something I didn’t even like on top of the Cantha thing caused me to look elsewhere for enjoyment.
I still love GW2, and the Dragon Event has be back for the time being. However, my entire guild/friend-group isn’t playing anymore. We will see how it goes.
Same thing happened too me. I hope its fixed soon
I hate to be the one to bring this up… since the devs clearly have a lot to deal with as it is. (and I bet someone has said something about this already) But doesn’t it seem odd that we only have 5 different stats for the Prototype Fractal Capacitor? I was just about ready to get one of them even though none really complemented my build really well until I started wondering if they have plans to add more in the future. If this is true, then I would save my tokens for then.
Does anyone else find it odd that we have so few options with the Prototype Fractal Capacitor? Have I overlooked other methods to get them? Or did they even state that they were going to add more stat options? If not, I guess what we have now is o-k, it just seems a little odd. What do you all think?
Really, as the first comment says, the game has hardly changed, so many bugs. And who the hell creates content, releases it, and you have to wait 3 days until you are able to play it. What the..??? Anet really has bad devs. Where is that GW1 logic? No grind, Awesome story, cool armors, well working economy, no bots, etc…
You could talk for days about how GW2 has one problem after another… in fact… we do. >.< HOWEVER, no game is without its flaws early on, not even when GW1 was in this phase of its life. This update did plenty to satisfy my Ascended item stat problem. If that is all this update did, I would have been happy.
However, they put so much time and effort into so many different brand new aspects that it is crazy to think that everything would work right off the bat. Making a game is no where near as easy and strait forward as people think. Things go wrong for no reason and seemingly unrelated problems effect something else, worse… game devs have to deal with us. But the biggest troubles is knowing how a user base will interact with the content. That’s why its so important for us to leave constructive feedback. Yes, a betrayal of ideals is a valid concern, nonetheless, saying “Anet really has bad devs.” doesn’t accomplish anything or help anyone.
Lastly, I have to disagree with you, GW2 has changed a lot since launch. And even though I complain on these forums… a lot…. I still appreciate all you efforts.Thank you for your hard work Anet!!!
I know theirs a lot of complaints about the new Guild Missions… but honestly… although I am sad that their is no more branch in TA… I couldn’t be happier with the update. I was very very very displeased when I found out that my desired stats weren’t available in Ascended form prior to the update. I am more then ecstatic to now be able to obtain all the stats I could ever want for my toon in Ascended form.
Arena Net devs, thank you so much for hearing us out!!! <3
yeah was mentioned and made a huge number of players angry…..
Its their game……..lets see if they think they can afford this with TESo and other competitors approaching fast.
They have data and i think if somehow the mass Exodus was reduced on nov15 the next will be worst expecially if they ll ask money for a new expansion.
(they said lvl cap will be paired with a new expansion)…
I ll gladly buy an expansion with no level cap and tiers, but i don t know if i will stay here if i will be forced into gear trendmill even more….
I personally foresee a lot of people leaving if a new level cap is introduced, especially if you have to pay for it. It’s sad to think that the only way see if people will be o-k with it is to actually do it instead of asking the community.
I really don’t think I could take a level cap increase…it doesn’t make any sense to me for this game. Especially for the reasons that FlamingFoxx listed.
I earn 2.5 levels every 1.5 hours. All they’d really be doing is making gear useless for the sake of making gear useless
I’m in the exact same boat as you. The day the level cap increases is the day I shelf GW2 for good and start chipping away at the literal mountain of non-mmos I have build of over the years that I have yet to play.
While it would also signify the end of my dedicated participation in any MMO from their on out… it’s not something I would be too sad about. I’ll admit, GW2 as it is now is my favorite mmo of all time. I’ve made friendships I cherish through this game. I gotta say, even if it were to end at this point, I have certainly gotten my moneys worth.
Aaaaaaallthough… I have to comment on Mike O’Brien’s statment: "GW2 can have gradual stat progression without being a gear treadmill game.”
Does that not make sense to anyone else? I mean, I see how he certainly has confidence in their ability to present new gear with higher stats more effective then the Ascended Grind… but… isn’t adding “gradual stat progression” beyond what we have now the very definition of a gear treadmill???
edit: one quick note!!! when I say “GW2 as it is now” I don’t mean that any change will drive me away. I welcome any new end game content to give us all more to do. What I don’t is to see all the gear we already worked so hard obtaining… sometimes multiple sets with different stats, to all be for nothing in the long run. I know that’s what EVERY OTHER mmo has done, but GW2 isn’t just “any other mmo” at least… that’s not what it was supposed to be.

It’s almost a month since I’ve created this topic and we only got a vague tidbit of indormation… It’s quite disappointing.
This seems to be the on-going theme with Ascended Item discussion. You would think that a topic with this much user involvement would translate to a higher number of Dev responses, not that they are obligated too or anything. Honestly… I’m surprised we got the response that we did from Isaiah Cartwright. I’m relatively happy with their response, but a time-frame would be nice… yah know… so I know how long I’m going to be holding onto my Tokens and Luarals.
Ascended items… it’s been discussed to death >.<.
Maybe they are being discussed to death because they hurt enough peoples experience in GW2 to drive them to make forum posts about. I know these topics get old, but the sheer amount of outcry against them is notable.
anyway…
@ aliksyian
Yes Ascended items are still “a thing” however you know that already. All I can say is that they don’t currently make that big a difference outside of Fractals. I know that post after post of people claiming that they do, but only in rare instances in WvW will it ever come up.
What I would be angry about is the fact that they are actually restricting the power of certain builds by not having proper ascended stats for every exotic equivalent. Now that’s a bigger problem.
If you want my opinion, just give the game a shot again. See if ascendeds do directly hurt your experience. If they don’t, then “YAY! welcome back!” if not, then im sorry… at least you tried.
Just here to drop my 2 cents… I have grinded and grinded and grinded to get the tokens for my Guardian only to find that my Exotic starts have no Ascended equivalent. I find it quite frustrating that I am forced to ether re-spec my entire character (aka Grind even more) or not play GW2 with my friends. How fun does that sound? In my personal opinion, that sounds terrible. If they are going to introduce a new tier and anger a large part of the community in doing so, the least they could do is give us all the stats.
This should be their first priority. NOT evolving events like Flame and Frost. (as much fun as they are)
What ever happened to refining the game you already have?

Well true it’s a rumor, i might’ve jumped the gun. But to make it clear, Blade & Soul is anything but a “pet project”. It’s just in Korea right now that’s why you’re not hearing about it, but it earned 80% in korea alone in 3rd quarter 2012 of what guild wars 2 did world wide. It’s a AAA class mmorpg, and their hopes for it are equal to those tied to gw2 if not higher.
I see, it makes sense that NcSoft has high hopes. But Eastern and Western MMO’s are very different, as well as their user base. I feel that GW2, a Western developed game would be expected to perform better in the Western market. As such, an Asian expansion for it would also perform better. I will defs look more into Blade & Soul however. (and I know that was a generalization, theirs planty of Asian MMOs that have done well in Western markets)
Josh Foreman already commented on the NCsoft rumor over control and Blade & Soul..It doesn’t sound like that has anything to do with it. The two games are fundamentally different games in many ways and I don’t foresee them really competing with each other they will most likely co-exist pretty seamlessly. NCsoft has supposedly been pretty hands-off with the whole thing so we might not automatically blame NCsoft for that decision right now unless someone at ArenaNet or NCsoft comes out and says so.
A lot of people feel left in the dust when it comes to revisiting places from GW1 in GW2, I agree, I also would rather go back to the places I loved in GW1 and see them now 250 years later in lore years. As I’ve said before, I’m open to new places but it can be hard to remember it’s the same world most of the time, until you happen upon a small area from the first game and usually a lot of it is destroyed and ruins. I would rather see more of the old places fully in tact even if they’ve changed or evolved to varying degrees and I think Cantha is a good opportunity for this. It’s an ancient culture, and it’s been in isolation for two centuries. It’s entirely possible & most likely that it would not have changed much aesthetically, they may not even be industrializing yet like some of the other areas are beginning to, and there could be less poverty due to the reforms of the past..
Hmm, that’s interesting, but I do find it odd that they did say that NcSoft wanted to keep it universal and not Arena Net. If I have learned one thing, its to never trust a company talking about itself or another part of itself… especially with unreleased material. I doubt that you will hear any employee pointing a finger or blaming anything on one of their own or a parent company’s projects. All I know is that for some reason NcSoft doesn’t want GW2 to have Cantha.
(edited by Oni.7451)
Here’s a short theory why not:
“NcSoft was adamant to keep it universal”. Not Arena.net. NcSoft.
Translation:NcSoft is launching Blade & Soul in western market soon, and one of this game’s main selling points is that it’s 100% asian in and out. I say they don’t want gw2 to deliver “asian” experience as it could weaken the “asian” selling point of B&S.
Soooooooo… what your saying is that if Blade & Soul fails in the Western Market, then we get Cantha! Quick! Spread the word! Any GW2 fan who wants Cantha must stay miles away from Blade & Soul!!!
XD jk… well, sorta. I know this is nothing more then a rumor, but its a rumor I see some truth in it. I mean, it makes a lot of sense how you put it. It seems crazy to intentionally restrain the options of the sequel to one of your most successful flagship games for a pet project. However, if NcSoft wants to use backhanded methods to support a game, I think we, as the community, have the right to call them out on it and at least speak against the practice.
As I’ve stated before (I think I have… XD) GW Factions, and in turn Cantha, was the reason I purchased GW1 in the first place. I would NOT be here today if it were not for the world of Cantha. I think that’s the same for a lot of us. It is criminal to not have it in production for a future expansion.
I couldn’t agree more with the OP. I know I complain about A LOT of things that bug me about this game. However, at the end of the day, their is no other MMO I would rather play then GW2. Maple Story, Vindictus, Old Republic, and WoW don’t even compare. (for me at least)
I <3 this game

ANet wanted to (not sure if they still want to) introduce Ascended Weapons & Armor in the future…. Please no! If you would do the same as what we’ve seen now, everyone would run with the same gear, same stats… less or no variation at all…
Prevent the Ascension becoming an ever greater failure than it already is, DO NOT introduce Ascended Weapons and/or Armor!I agree. If ascended items were just meant to be a higher tier that allows players to play the way they want as opposed to a knee-jerk reaction to grinders demanding grind, ANet would make all exotic stat combinations available for gold and karma in PvE, and have at least one ascended item for each combination. Ascended weapons and armor are probably coming. It’s like watching a slow train wreck =)
I completely agree about the slow train wreck. It’s heart wrenching to see a game I love so much go down this path.
DO NOT introduce Ascended Weapons and/or Armor!
We want more skins instead.
I only wish that they would hear us all out. I would be more then happy to have “ascended armor” with nothing more then new skins. Hell, give it an infusion slot too, but allow our current sets to be upgraded like in GW1 through a series of requirements. It would be a nice little bonus that the Ascended Armor would have an infusion slot right away, but not game breaking.
Sadly, it’s become apparent that our opinions regarding ascended items are not being herd, never mind acknowledged other then an ominous: “We wont make any more tiers this year.” or something like that.
Hello all, I’m a little confused about the discussion of future ascended gear items. With all this talk about new methods to obtain the gear, I have only seen discussion regarding trinkets and such. Not actually visual items. (excluding back units) Even though they AN has stated in the past that they had intention to create Ascended Armor; has the incredibly varied, controversial and even negative reception from the community changed their plans to create armor and simply leave it at trinkets? Maybe adding a system similar to GW1 where you can upgrade your current set to gain agony resistance?
I ask this due to the lack of info regarding future ascended gear. Whenever Arena Net posts anything they typicality say “ascended gear”, not “ascended armor” or “ascended trinkets”
Personally speaking, I would prefer if they left the current availability of ascended gear limited to trinkets which are mostly non visual. While I will admit to being very against ascended trinkets earlier… have gotten used to the idea. They don’t hurt my experience to much, and I can obtain them without having to go out of my way in other areas.
However, should they implement ascended armor with higher stats, I would be less then happy. For what my opinion is worth (which probably isn’t much… XD) I would certainly re-evaluate my view of the game. To me, theirs a difference between non visual items and visual. If ascended armor were to be the new top armor, then everyone who worked hard to get a certain skin, multiple sets, even pay money to transmute these “top gear” level 80 items with fine transmutation stones would have spend their time and/or money for nothing.
The bigger difference is between not costing me money and costing me money. Sure, I could get Gems with in game gold. But had they been more clear about the addition of ascended armor earlier on (before fractals), this wouldn’t have been a problem.
What do you all think? Can anyone clarify for me?

Every time I’m crippled. “WaaaaAAAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAooooooOOOOOAAaaaaaaGggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!”
This one is bothering me more than anything else. I started hating being crippled just because the character sounds like she’s being skinned and dredged with salt afterwards every time you get the condition.
OMG you hit the nail on the head with that. It’s so jarring! lol
The other sound effect that bothers me is the “Mediation” sound. It honestly sounds like she is trying to imitate a wolf or something.
To be honest, they make me laugh more then annoyed.
Asura and Sylvari have pretty good story lines until level 50. I also liked the vigil and order of whispers. Good luck.
Treaherne is the Kormir of GW2…he ruins stuff.
I think all the orders have their strong points. It took me a little longer to like the Vigil, but they grew on me. The Priory picked up a lot faster then I thought it would, I really liked them. I fell in love with the Order of Whispers right away.
When it comes time to pick an Order, just make sure you have given them all a chance to show you what they are all about instead of ignoring one.. Don’t assume you won’t like them until you work with them.
I cannot speak for the Norn’s personal story, however I read somewhere that the Norn and Humans were voted as having the weakest story of all the races. I mean, this is totally subjective, but it’s worth pointing out. I have 2 Sylvari, and 1 Asura. I have greatly enjoyed both my Sylvaris story’s (picked different options whenever I could) and my Asura’s. If your not into the race your playing, your not going to feel as attached. Make sure you enjoy more then just the visuals of the race. Their culture is just as important if care about the story.
As for class’s… The three most complained about classes atm. (for being underwhelming) are the Engineer, Necromancer, and Ranger. My first two characters were a Guardian and a Mesmer. I am working on a Necro atm and I can see the problems already. They just seem less interesting in their mechanics.
My advice to you is to play anything other then those three until they fix out the kinks.
I hope thats helpful ^^
I dunno, I disagree with you in a few areas. While my main grudge is with the addition of the Ascended items, I’ve learned to live with them. But I have never seen why people have so many problems with Underwater Combat, Traherne, or the Zhaitan battle.
My only complaint regarding Underwater Combat is the lack of customization. They have given us all 1 option for it. Each class can only use 1 or 2 different weapons. This makes Underwater Battles seem a little less personal then the rest of the games mechanics. However, I have never seen it as boring.
As for Traherne, sure his voice lacks a little emotion, but I still enjoyed him as a character. But then again, I’m all about Sylvari. XD The main argument I have seen against him is that he takes over the story as the main character. I would have to disagree there. Guild Wars 2 is about unity, the power of the many working together to accomplish something great. This is very different then Guild Wars 1’s plot where you become pretty OP by the end. Traherne is just another character who’s just as important as you in saving the world.
As for the Zhaitan battle… I liked it. I know a lot of people absolutely hated it. We never actually lay a hit on him with our own sword. We have to rely on the power and technology of each race, order, and hero to achieve victory. To me, it represented the most core aspect of the story. “Compared to the dragons… you and everyone else are weak and powerless alone, however, we can overcome this weakness to achieve the impossible if we work together.” That’s what i get out of it.
Cheesy? Yeah! Nice? Yes!
Still… I would have liked to do more then just sit their and hit 2 forever. A little more movement, even if it war just maintaining something, would have made me feel more involved.

Ya know, I was going to ask you what you’re talking about, but I did a quick google search first. This is what I found:
It all makes a ton of sense now…
That was, quite honestly, the most disturbing thing I’ve red regarding GW2. I really hope it’s wrong. Time will tell… -sad face-
@Gisei.5749
As of now, I am indifferent about the WP change. However I have one worry for what this may do in the future when they implement the later changes they intend to make. Currently it is rather time consuming to find a party for certain dungeons, especially the story paths. I feel this is because their just aren’t enough reasons to do them. The WP change only hurts the already few people running certain dungeons. While they may have intended dungeons to have a certain degree of difficulty and reward payout at the games launch, the current power creep has left the old dungeons feeling dry and underwhelming for the amount of time they ask of us.
For example, a dungeon like Twilight Arbor is, by some peoples opinions, unpleasant. Running TA for nothing but skins or weapons to feed to the Mystic Forge doesn’t always seem like the most efficient way to play the game anymore (fractals). Their are simply better ways to go about spending your time for the same results (other then the skins). However, people in my guild including myself still run it all the time because their are some ways to ease the grind. Should these dungeons become so challenging that they are the hardest content in the game, I fear that people will simply not run them in favor of other methods to achieve these items. After the first few runs of every path they loose their fun and become a chore.
I feel that if they do want to make dungeons as hard as you state, then they tokens they reward should be more, or make the items cost less tokens.
Yes, they are. People are exploiting a bug with the transmutation stone which makes a soulbound item still say soulbound, however can be transfered to other toons, once you use a transmutation stone.
This is an exploit, obviously, since it was not designed that way – as you can clearly see it messes up the item and makes it unsoulbind.
It’s a valid concern to know if we’ll be banned for doing it.
Actually, in a reletivly recent update, they changed it so that the items now say “Accountbound” instead of a glitched “Soulbound”. Take this as you will, but many have assumed that this means they don’t mind it. Especially since this can happen randomly for those that don’t even intend it. I think that any “White” item that is transmuted can make a Soulbound item Accountbound. However, it can even happen when they aren’t.
My personal theory is that it’s a little easter egg. I mean, how many of us have trashed our special starting items without realizing that you cant get anything like them later on? I feel this is great for Necromancers that want their eyes back or other classes who want to try out a cool new look.
In my humble opinion I wouldn’t mind dungeon tokens getting their own collectible tab. I also wouldn’t mind an increase in stack size for all collectibles to 999.
I would love to see a system like this too. Just like with Rare Crafting Materials, You need a significant amount of tokens to get items. Even the “cheaper” one handed weapons can cost 300 tokens. This amounts to at least having two stacks taking up space that are otherwise useless.
However, the counter argument is that they can only allow so many collectible taps before it starts to get too easy. Banks have to have a sense of storage too them.
I have to say that I strongly hope that they do not carry through with the statement of Ascended Armor and Weapons after all the community backlash. It would show a clear disregard for the wants of those who have dedicated to much towards this game.
As much as I would like to say that the addition of Ascended gear would be the day I quit Guild Wars 2, I do not think this would be true. I love this game. It has been everything I hoped for since it’s launch.
However, I do feel that it would cast a large shadow over the game. One of the draws of Guild Wars 1 and 2 for me was the important of visuals not stats. In GW1 I could have my armor and weapons be max level without having to worry about them becoming obsolete in an expansion. So far, although slightly different, GW2 does the something similar. You have numerous ways to easily obtain Exotics. If you want to spend the time to get a visual you desire, go ahead.
Adding even more grind to the game by making more armor with higher and higher stats every so often is exactly why I don’t play other mmo’s. It’s just unpleasant and not fun. I want to enjoy my gaming experience, not have to worry about having the next big thing.
Lastly, I would feel partially cheated out of $$$ should they eventually up the Power or even Level Tier of gear in the future. How many of us have dropped gold or cash for Fine Transmutation Stones to give our (final) Exotic items the look we wanted? How many would be a little miffed should this purchase be rendered pointless?
Sorry if theirs some typos, I wrote this in a rush.
I’m also pretty disappointed. I mean, why even tempt us by giving out 200? do they want to make sure that everyone would just have to run the Tixx Event once? If so, why not 150?
200 just feels like a taunt. Id like to get the mere 50 cogs it would take to get a 3rd, but I guess that seems unlikely now. However, it would be a nice Wintersday Surprise! -nudge nudge hint hint-
As the title says, are we going to get a system in the future to store our Town Clothing? I find it odd that GW2 has actually taken a feature away that was already present in GW1. With every event, you could give your hat to a Hat Collector. He would be able to create infinite copy’s of that hat for any of your characters from that point on. Why is it that GW2 has no such option? I know we have only had one major event as of now (Halloween 2012) but it has already become a problem for me to store a GW2 Cap, Witch’s Hat and Demon Horns for each of my four characters.
Even more disheartening is the fact that even if you purchase town clothing from the cash shop, you still cannot store your extra clothing anywhere but in your bank (where space is at a premium)
This has actually prevented me from spending cash on gems for the Halloween event’s costumes. I feel that if GW2 wants to take the rout of flooding our innovatory with duplicates of town clothing every event, they need to make a specialized storage system exclusively for these items, possibly infinite storage since they seem to be pushing them as event exclusives in the Gem store.
Personally speaking, I know that if I had specific storage for Town Clothing I would have spend a lot more cash then I have.
What do you all think? does this seem like a fair system to implement?
I agree with the an earlier post that stated something like “Each purchase has its incentives.” While I would probably be a little kitten if this was a much more unique item, I don’t feel like a simpler texture of an event hat that was already in game is something to huff over.
I have two friends who are looking into this game. I have been asking and asking for them purchase it. (they were already planning on it, just never had the time due to classes until today) Now they have an even greater incentive. They don’t have to feel AS bad about missing all two of the past events. They now have a little something to make them feel special.
Needless to say, the day that Arena Net decides its a good idea to release a super special/unique monster of an item for newcomers (as in something we have never seen anything like before like a weapon skin or armor) … I may find it harder to agree with the decision.
Attended/looted/ no mail
Friend of mine : Missed it /no loot / received
(I don’t mind that he got one. He couldn’t attend the event cause of his job. So I guess this works out? XD)
Robert, I’m glad I could be of help in the search for a solution for this problem.
Some other pieces of information I forgot to add before was that, in some cases, Detha seemed to be more likely to glitch if she is engaged in combat while she was inside the room, near the tunnel/entrance. Since that killing her in the room via the mobs outside seems to occasionally fix the glitch, maybe it is what causes it in the first place.
This is just another semi-constant scenario I have noticed. This scenario still doesn’t always lead to glitching.
I jus finished Path 2 & 3 for 2 times, no such thing happen to me though..everything’s fine
It doesn’t happen every time. But it is a problem that need attention. It requires certain conditions to be met, and even the, it doesn’t always happen.
I am also curious about this. When I had this happen to be I was incredibly happy because I trashed my old Mesmer mask without realizing that I couldn’t replace it. However, after the update where they all turned “Account Bound” and even started happening to me without intending on random weaponsIi transmuted, I got comfortable with the idea that its an “Easter Egg”, for ppl who want to replace lost starter items, or give their, in my case, Mesmer a more necromancer look.
No other armor in the game is bound by class. Just the starting gear. Not even every class gets cool unique starting items. So I feel that it is only fair that they can be transmuted and shared between your own characters.
Regardless, I would like to see a mod confirm that this is an Easter egg or bug. I don’t want to be regarded as an abuser, and would gladly trash every one of the items should they be deemed illegal in game, but I would respectfully disagree with that decision.
Ok, not sure if it has been described in detail already, but I will explain what happens leading up to Path 2 glitching for me.
When we are in a rush and try to bypass mobs just outside the door before she constructs the cannons, it is more likely to happen then not. In fact, I have almost never seen it happen when you clear out the Oozes and Gravlings at the door/stairs.
When we do attempt to run past the mobs just before the door to the cannon room, Detha will engage them in combat for a bit, then after we clear it out, she will begin he normal path… only now, she stands where the ghost pops out of the ground and is supposed to say something like “A char! its building some device!” … only he never pops up.
If this does happen, we have found that leading some of the leftover mobs into the room and allowing Detha to die and then rezzing her can fix the problem, but not always. I feel as though Detha engaging in combat from the mobs outside the door has a lot to do with what is glitching her. Although I’m no programmer and cannot be sure.
The biggest argument against this seems to be that it will hurt the dyes market value. So why not a compromise? Just have “common” and “uncommon” dyes account wide, while “rare” dyes are character bound. This would make it much more convenient for everyone, but also keep the most sought after dyes at a hefty price.
