I’d like to know if being a “Legit” player makes you feel like you are better than others and if so, do you have t-shirts or something so we can tell who is who? Not everyone can afford the Halo.
Anet made the change to make Fractals the money maker and took that away from dungeons. I don’t know why we can’t have both.

Question: If you get another account what do you do about the email address? Do you need to come up with a new email address? Or can you use the one you currently have? I mean I know it is easy to create a new email with Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, or whatever but if you never plan on actually using that email address it can cause problems later.

I apologize. I didn’t really want to derail this thread. I guess what I am asking, for those of us who normally lurk these forums, is how do people get better at this. Is it all just trial and error and screams of rage from others? Is it the videos that are out there, if you can find one that teaches and is not just a glory film?

I have lurked the forums and there is a lot of conflict on what is best but not so much on what is bad. It seems to be common ground. There has to be a way for good to help teach the bad. There has to be give and take on both sides of that though. The “goods” need to explain and not belittle and the “bads” need to pay attention and not be stubborn.

Again, I apologize for the potential derail. (thanks for responding to my earlier post)

So is there any hope for those who actually play these types of characters and builds? I found myself on a couple of these lists with my toons.

I have a GS/LB Ranger and one of my pets is a bear and the other a cat.
I have a Guardian who likes to go Mace to Face with boss mobs and also has a staff or GS depending on the fight or role.
I have a P\P Thief but he doesn’t go into dungeons but is a lot of fun to play.
I have a Scepter Elly that really likes Fire.

I have others as well. Is there a class one can take to learn how conform? Or is it best that we never ever pug and only play with those like themselves in their own guilds?

This thread was a very disappointing read. To find out that all the fun I had since the game began has been a lie and I have been playing the game wrong all this time.

What role does a Thief have in Fractals?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Oofta.8036

I have only recently done level 50 Fractals. On occasion we will pug the last spot or two. I have never seen a thief in a fractal before until I did a 50. The person that played the thief did so really well. I was too busy to notice what they all did though as I was still nervous about doing a 50 and concentrating hard not to mess it up.

So could someone tell me what the Thief brings to the table and what specific fractals they really shine in. I am thinking about converting my thief to be one of my fractal characters.

Why do people run fractals?

Oofta.8036

My guild and I enjoy the challenge and the chance to increase our personal reward ranks. Many of our people are still in the teens and have yet to experience the higher level fractals. For them the randomness of which fractal you will get is exciting. For those of us who have done this many times, well we’re hoping that the expansion brings us new fractals.

As it has been said though it is all about the fun. I think outside of doing Arah this is the closest thing to doing an old fashioned dungeon crawl. imho

Knight or Berserk armor for WvW?

First thing is to define your role in it all. Are you going to stay back and snipe or are you going to get into the meat of the battle?

I run full zerk but my build is a bit different, 60620. I use both Armor piercing and Read the Wind and don’t take Eagle Eye. I do a metric kitten ton of damage and with skills in survival I manage to stay alive longer. Being able to do incredible damage means nothing when you are dead.

I also love having the GS handy as well. Many people don’t expect the ranger to put down the bow and charge head long into them. No point in running. Crack some skulls and go out fighting.

do you feel like you have won the game? You’ve done everything, you have a ton of gold in the bank, you have as many achievements as you can possibly have, attained the highest rank in pvp, have you won?

I know I have some goals in my mind for having a certain amount of gold or certain collections completed. Something like that. When you stop and look at all that you have and have done, do you feel like you have “won”?

I know this isn’t a realistic question due to the fact that there really is no end to a MMO until they pull the plug.

I know at some point I am going to stop and say, “I’m good” and that is enough. Though I’ll probably still log in and do it all over again.

I just want to thank Skady, Brown, and all the rest for providing all this information. I had my Guardian on the shelf basically but now I have some inspiration to break it out again.

Most of those posting here I would consider Elite (Not Elitists, as that has come to be a negative connotation). For those of us who are still doing lower level fractals (under 25) this kind of build will allow us to progress. My guild are just now starting to get into the Fractals. A couple of us are in our upper 30’s for level and we are teaching the rest how to play. We are still learning and what I have read here will go a long ways for us.

Thanks again!

There are different types of champions. Some are easy to bring down solo, like some in the Silverwastes after the breach is completed. Some do require a group or a lot of people.

As for the OP, I’d rather see you leave the game than have to listen to you whine. I get enough of that from my kids.

Forgive me for not remembering but did other games have the same kind of loot systems that GW2 has? Each person gets their own loot and it isn’t part of a random drop that everyone needs but only one person gets due to a roll or DKP.

That alone would set this game apart from the rest. I’m sure there are more things that would as well.

Dynamic Weather

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Oofta.8036

It is totally possible. Look at Dry Top and the Sand Storm. It effects the entire zone for a set amount of time. All that needs doing is to change the graphics and make it a random amount of time.

Personally I’d like to see a more drastic difference between night and day. As well as weather that spanned over multiple zones. Like having a storm travel from Queensdale into Kessex and then move on through LA or Dredgehaunt.

Have to add a layer, so to speak, between the game and the user for the weather to travel through.

Oofta.8036

I would normally say Yes to this as I think a gladiatorial stadium would be cool. I have been in games where warnings come up when are close to a location like this, letting you know that you are in danger of stepping into an unsafe area.

Let’s face it, the location can be designed so that you actually have to want to be going to that location before anything happens. It can be built so that you can’t see anyone walking nearby or whatever the worry was previously posted. If you are there, you are there to either fight or spectate and if you are there for the latter you risk being a participant.

All of that doesn’t really matter though. There are locations already in place for this kind of thing. Our guild has their own PVP arena where we go to play and practice and duel. If left open to the public, then others can walk in and play as well.

Sic’em. Pure awesomeness. Less experienced Thieves panic when they suddenly can’t go invis. You can bring them down pretty fast. More experienced Thieves…well they will probably just run until the Sic’em is done and then come at you. At that point do what those above me say.

I usually switch to greatsword and flail and scream like a baby until I am dead. That’s just cause I’m not that great at this compared to most. I am aware of my failings and embrace my death, kicking and screaming.

I swapped back to Armor Piercing this weekend. While I loved taking down people in a 1v1 fight, I found that I am mostly going up against larger groups (not quite zerg size). While my team is going toe to toe, my arrows are ripping through the crowd damaging multiple targets.

What I hadn’t considered is using both, Armor Piercing and Read the Wind, dropping Eagle Eye. I may have to give that a go tonight.

I also changed my build a touch. I took 6 points in survival for the Bark Skin. That has made a world of difference. You can’t dps if you’re dead.

My Ranger is your typical glass cannon build. All zerker gear, Runes of the Ranger, Long Bow/Great Sword etc… My build is mainly for Long Bow with the increased range but instead of Read the Wind I have been using Armor Piercing.

What I like about this is that during WvW I can deal a boat load of damage to multiple targets (granted it would be nice if they all lined up in a row for me). I did try Read the Wind but I wasn’t impressed by it. Am I missing something? Can someone tell me if I should revisit my thinking on this.

It’s funny watching everyone trip over themselves to flaunt their political correctness. I’m a man and I have nothing against the rainbows, or the unicorns, or what have you. I do however agree with the OP. Not placing blame or making excuses be it a societal thing or a time period from which one is raised.

I have refrained from getting a Longbow Legendary because it just doesn’t seem to strike fear in my enemy or anyone else unless “killing them with kindness” becomes a grandmaster trait.

But by all means carry on with the over abundance of being “politically correct” not wishing to offend anyone and be sure to make people feel like kitten if they come close to not feeling the same way.

My only complaint about the combat is the Auto-Targeting. I know the option to turn it off is there and I will probably have to learn to not use the auto-targeting. It is just sad that if given the choice between shooting the Red that is attacking me, the Yellow grazing in the distance, or a Gate, my Auto Target chooses the Gate. I’m sure others have noticed this and have the same frustration as I do.

Last night was the first night in a long time that I actually was able to play the game without the horrendous lag. There was still lag but only 1-2 disconnects. It wasn’t the smoothest game experience but it was playable. I guess when you are used to not being able to play at all, even a little game time is enough to satisfy. Like giving a starving man a saltine cracker, that man would believe it is a Ritz.

Anet is probably not really at fault but it is easier to blame them as all the evidence points that direction, so they get a lot of possibly undeserved anger. Let’s just hope that when this is fixed that we give them a lot of undeserved credit as well.

Our guild is from NA (Crystal Desert) and we transferred to FSP about 18 months ago. I am in Green Bay, WI. CST I and another member of our guild (from Indiana) often experience the lag at the same time. It was once in a while about 2 months ago but now it has gotten to the point where it is every night. Between 6pm-9pm (probably longer but we all give up before then) it is so the game is unplayable in WvW.

Even in PVE it gets bad. The only time I really don’t have lag is around 5am cst. I know that we don’t pay a subscription for this game but I do spend a lot of money on gems. I would expect better. So for now I’ll login to visit and get some stuff done like dailies but I am exploring other options on how to spend my time now.

Please fix soon as I enjoy this game the most.

A guild that has and does all the guild missions. Preferably on a Saturday night.
A guild that doesn’t require 100% rep (we like to rep our personal guild banks once in a while)
A guild that doesn’t mind what you play so long as you play it well.

Ok, I admit it, I play a ranger that would qualify as “BearBow” (I just learned what that term meant from this thread). It is just one of my toons but I do have one and I do play it that way but I normally play WvW with it. I had toyed with going into some dungeons with it but from what I am reading now, that would not be the best class to bring.

I’m ok with that I guess and I understand all the valid remarks about the Ranger’s strengths or lack there of. Understanding that could someone please post a build that you would accept in your group? Granted I don’t pug as I have a good guild support system but I don’t want to short change them by bringing in a class that will not be supportive.

I run a full berserker build, glass cannon style right now. I thought I did a lot of damage but I guess not enough. What does the sword bring to the table that the greatsword doesn’t? (honestly curious)
