Creative Acquisitions [TAKE] on FSP assuming this is a theives guild
I am completely amazed at how many different posts are created all exclaiming the same problem. What really surprised me was that there is a post that shows this has been happening for nearly a year. I’ve tried many different fixes but found nothing works.
I’ll get on my computer (which has been on all night) in the morning and within seconds of stepping into EOTM the screen goes pink and then black and then if I wait long enough it will reboot the computer on its own or I will restart it myself. This may happen one more time but after that I am good to play for hours.
Frustration is not nearly as powerful a word needed to describe this. I, like many others most likely, deal with it as an “undisclosed feature” of the game. So many people are experiencing this. It would be nice if we could get an official response stating that it is being looked into (even if it isn’t).
I appreciate those links. Thank you. Hopefully we’ll get some resolution “soon”.
Back in November of 2013 my guild and I moved from a NA server to an EU server before the wvw season 1 had completed. Many of us have our wvw season 1 reward keys but have never been able to use them.
Is there any chance of getting our rewards? Or is this key just taking up space in our bags?
Do you think that the break-even point for Anet will be met fairly quickly with the number of sales? Then add in the micro transactions for bags, bank space, outfits, and harvesting tools, just to name a few. The amount of money generated in the first month of play by over 500k players should, imho, cover the cost of setting up shop over in China. Everything after that would basically be profit after operating costs are met.
So even if the market tanks after the first year in China they should have made a sizable amount of cash. Just my thoughts.
Many others are experiencing this problem as well. We had a topic with some thoughts on what the cause was but nothing came of it.

For me it is almost always when I am in a fractal (Char). So when I get into that particular fractal I change my setting to best performance and sometimes I am able to make it past the gate without crashing only to crash later on. Sometimes it will be moments after I login and am just walking about and I’ll crash out.
This only happens to me in GW2. No other game or activity on my computer causes this to happen to me.
Windows 8.1 (fresh image and fully updated)
Nvidia GTX570 (newest drivers)
16gb RAM
64bit system
I’ve tried a lot of different things (check other thread) and had no success. Now I’m just used to it. I can no longer be the person who initiates a fractal or dungeon. My guild and I are used to my crashes now and I am pretty quick to get back into the game. It is frustrating.
I want to say thanks for all the information that you have all offered. I’ll be bringing it all back to my team and we’ll see what we come up with. Most of us have multiple alts and should be able to adjust to any composition. We’ll see how we do as we get farther in.
Again, thanks for the help!
My guild and I are starting to do Fractals on a more regular basis. A couple of us are up to level 20 but most are below that. We are teaching along the way but now we are uncertain if what we are doing is completely useful. I hear of people running 29/39/50 level fractals all the time but I have to admit, we’ll have a really smooth level 15 and then get stomped on a level 9.
What I would like to know is what the group makeup is for successful fractal groups. What classes are preferable and which ones should we avoid. I know that some are fine early on but later on the game gets tougher and are they still viable?
Also, I have heard that it is best to be decked out in all zerker gear. Is it best to have 5 glass cannons? We understand the agony aspect of the game and we are gearing up appropriately but before we get too far in I’d like to know the other answers first so we can make good decisions on gear and class.
Sorry for my spelling – English is my primary language but I am a product of public schooling.
Well I know it isn’t an overheating issue. All my monitors log as fine but even still this happens moments after a logging in to the game after a fresh boot.
So in a fit of frustration I tried swapping in an older video card and that presented me with some power supply problems where the computer would spontaneously reboot or shut down. So off to the store I go and pick up a new power supply. I hook it up with my primary graphics card and get the problem again. I then wipe the machine clean and reinstall windows 8. I still go the problem. So I dropped my settings once again to best performance and I am able to play longer than 20 seconds.
That is not to say that is the cure as I have set my settings down there before and got the same results. I wasn’t quite ready to rebuild my machine yet. Usually every 3-4 years I’ll rebuild a machine but it has barely been 2.5 years now.
I removed the changes I made earlier. I am now unable to play the game for more than 20 seconds after I login. I am uninstalling the game and trying a fresh download. If that doesn’t work I guess I’ll have to find something else to play.
Well I played for about an hour without issue. Exited the game. Came back later and within 20 minutes, I got the pink screen of death. I wasn’t even doing anything graphic intensive. This is incredibly frustrating. It is nearly to the point of being unplayable. I may have to set this game aside for a few months and get into something else for a while. I heard there is this big yellow thing in the sky that is pretty enjoyable this time of year.
Ok from what I have been reading this is not a problem with the game nor is it limited to just Nvidia as this happens with ATI as well. The actual problem is the Operating System (Win Vista, 7, 8…) and a thing called the TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery). (for more info on how it works http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff570087(v=vs.85).aspx)
I had already opened up my machine and went through a can of air to blow out any and all dust that had built up. My video card looks fresh out of the box. Then I got the error 3 times last night. So today I found the following article (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/503962/tdr-fix-here-for-nvidia-driver-crashing-randomly-in-firefox/) and I made the changes listed. I haven’t had a chance to test this out yet but I will definitly do so tonight.
If you are not comfortable working in the registry, find someone who is. The registry is unforgiving and you could totally screw up your system if you do the wrong things. I’ll report back if this works for me or not.
Looking for a decent Fractal build if that is possible. Right now I am more power based than condi and I am in DS as often as I can. It works for me but I am always looking to improve or try new things.
(edit = My group are just getting close to doing level 20’s so nothing fanatical yet)
It was actually good for a couple days but then last night it happened once and then again this morning, twice. This is what I know:
Nvidia GTX570 graphics card (no modifications, latest drivers)
Windows 8.1 (updated)
Screen goes off color(yellow or pink then to black)
Computer may restart on its own or I will have to reset. No keyboard or mouse function. Can still hear game.
Event logs show no errors or warnings before the computer shuts down or is reset.
Only happens when in game (to be fair I am in the game more than I am in anything else)
This is a fresh image on the computer.
I just wish it would give me an error code or something in the event logs so I have something to work with. John.8507, can you provide a link to where Anet mentions the autoclocking and CPU turbo boosting? I haven’t heard of this before. Though now I’ll probably start digging in that direction.
I have been having this same issue occurring but it has an odd feature about it. It mainly seems to happen now when I am in a Fractal. When it does happen my screen will go black or pink (or a blend) and while I can still hear the action and voices in TeamSpeak I am not able to see the action or speak back to my team.
If I let it sit my computer will reboot on its own. I then restart the computer and get back into the game (dead of course) and within about 10 minutes it will happen again. From that point on though it seems to be fine.
As I may have mentioned earlier, my computer has a fresh image on it and is on Windows 8.1, I have a GTX570 graphics card with all updated drivers. This only happens to me while I am in game. I have not had it happen at all outside of the game. My computer is on almost always as I need to access it from work through RDP.
I know that there isn’t really enough information to go on to have any reasonable chance at troubleshooting this but I thought others might be having this issue as well. I’ll continue on and let someone else be the person to set up the Fractal.
Thanks for that answer. It is a shame that this can’t be easier than what it is.
I made +8 Agony infusion but when I tried to put it into my freshly crafted Ascended Chest piece it wouldn’t work. Is there something special that I need to do in order to make my armor accept the Agony Infusions?
I was having the same issue, where I’d be playing and then suddenly the monitor would go black. I could still talk on TS for a few minutes but then the computer would restart. Checking the event logs directly have coming back I found problems with Nvidia related items. I had all the updated drivers on my Windows 8 machine (16gb ram, 570gtx video card) but I still thought it was Nvidia. I disabled services but still had the problem.
I then decided last weekend to reimage the computer. I did this and upgraded to Windows 8.1. I got all the latest and greatest drivers and all was well from Friday until this morning. This morning it happened again. The only thing I didn’t install from scratch was GW2. I moved it from another drive and created a shortcut and all worked fine.
I truly don’t wish to download the entire game again but I will if that is what it takes.
Sorry if this has been asked already. Has anyone noticed that if you use Point Blank Shot to knock back a bad guy they tend to zip right back into your face? I have been seeing this more and more lately. I’ll use that move to create some distance but that doesn’t help much if the mob bounces right back up and in position to eat your face.
Just curious.
Thanks.
It sounds like a, “Everyone gets a trophy” concept. I believe that if you are there you should participate. “yeah he’s on our team, against the dragons. Do you remember”? I remember that they own a weapon but didn’t use it.
I understand the thought that it should be “Us” vs “Them” and not “Us” vs “Us”. I guess it comes down to your initial statement about those who do more damage get more reward. I’m not aware what was brought in with the Dragon Bash so forgive my ingnorance on that. I always thought that the loot was RNG and based on if you particpated or not. (I could very well be wrong on that) If it is true that you get more loot for the more damage you then I agree that is a problem and should be fixed. If it isn’t then it should remain as is.
(Just my opinion that is based on lack of facts and gut feelings.)
I’ve had nothing short of Excellent service from the GW2 customer support team. They resolved my in game issues swiftly, correctly, and with high professionalism.
As far as the hoops one has to jump through to recover their password, I am thankful that they have this inplace (even if it can be a pita when you really want to play) to keep those who would try and steal your account from doing so.
If anything this game makes me WANT to spend money on it. You want Greed? Look at Neverwinter. You die and the first thing that pops up is a message stating that you can revive right away if you pay cash.
I would think that all the “Hard Core” would be thankful that all the “Casuals” are flocking to this game so they don’t taint the other games with their joy and carefree ways.
I agree with the OP though in that I have enjoyed my time here much more than in the many other games I’ve played all the way back to EQ. EQ was new and exciting back then but that wore off after about 2 years. I hope that doesn’t happen here.
On Crystal Desert as well. I get this when I start doing the Gator run. What I have been doing, that seems to work for me, is go into WvW for a moment then do a logoff. I then login with the same character and it gets returned to Southsun to the same spot I had left. From that point on I seem to be working fine. Also, I don’t seem to have this problem in overflow for some reason. Others around me have this problem as well.
Casual? As in older players with limited time due to job, family etc…, but spare coin to spend? This game fits that demographic (and I count myself there) excellently. That alone will keep this game going for a long time. I still have fun with this game, but I don’t live every waking hour here.
The younger players will eventually move on the next “greatest” game ever…an on and on etc..
I fit that category as well. I’m still having fun and believe that any new mmo will have to pretty freaking fantastic to draw my attention as GW2 has set the bar very high in terms of quality and game experience.
I have a problem with a lot of blanket statements about “Anet Players” and “Casuals”. You have to be careful with blanket statements because they don’t always work and they make people sound foolish.
I’m glad that it wasn’t just me that was upset with this. I was very underwhelmed when I started using it. I was expecting something grandios like the Pick but got something that I didn’t even notice until after my third or fourth gather.
I actually bought these items for the animations more so than just having to not have to buy another tool. I hope they learn from this for when they get around to doing the Axe.
Here I was expecting a thread laced with sarcasm. I’m happy to be wrong.
I’m one of those rare Engineers that don’t do a lot with the kits. I prefer my p/p. Though I have to admit the thought of getting a bubble gun doesn’t really appeal to me.
Hell I consider not dying a successful trip. I have to wonder what all the rush is about. It’s like people are in a self imposed race against…time? You aren’t paying a subscription so why is there that angst about getting “there” faster?
Slow down, enjoy the game.
If I had to guess the next player race(s) they would be either the Skrit or the Koda. Both have areas that could be considered a hometown already. It would be easy to add them in.
Leaderboards help those with low self-esteem justify their self worth. All they want from us is our undivided worship and to bask in their glory. Is that so much to ask?
Hardcore = Planning life around the game.
Casual = Planning the game around life.
Never too late to start really. I’d get myself a good base of mats though. Even though you can do more than one craft at a time, you might just want to focus on one because it will take time and cost you if you want to buy mats outright. Some mats are used by multiple Professions, like Armor or Weapons, or Artifice and Jewelry, they all use ore. If you are juggling two of those profs it will get time consuming and expensive.
