but what if they have 2 or even 3 eles??
Never faced this (kind of on a break) but i’d prolly bring 2 thieves roaming togheter for maximum instagib
Funny how no one mentioned the correct uber shatter combo and the mechanic that makes it insanely strong. Really looks like people have no clue. Oh well.
That said, yeah, might from shatters is WAY too strong and i laughed my kitten off when i read it in the patch notes. They need to revert it to the old status.
Oh, yep. I’m a mesmer.
I wouldn’t queue for a paid without a guardian and a mesmer, ever. Those two classes are the core of every team.
As a mesmer, i’m not happy with the class balance at the moment. We pretty much have only one (insanely strong) viable build, typical 20 20 0 0 30 shatter. Every other build is just subpar or downright horrible, and everyone thinking otherwise is just delusional. The buff to dazzling and shatter might stacking was completely uncalled for, and absolutely OP. On top of that, utilities just too good to pass up for ANY team, portal and time warp. I won’t count illusion of life because it’s situational and with the new utilities locking thingie i doubt it will be in the majority of mesmers’ setups.
Bottom line is: mesmer balanced my kitten
I think this change will be way more detrimental to casual players approaching to “competitive” play than people seem to think, while at the same time greatly reducing playstyle variety inside a single match.
A lot of people already have multiple characters of the same class with different builds, and they swap it before the game starts based on enemy team composition, and a lot of teams already join the match at the latest possible time except for one player “scouting” to “hide” their build and get into the match with the appropriate composition. Necro and engi? Let’s bring double guardian with more condi removal in their builds. Double mesmers? Sounds like we could use that backstab thief. One guardian no ele? Uh uh, let’s go with a crapload of condi. Casuals won’t do this. And they’ll get stomped even more brutally than they do now.
Mid game, no weapon swapping means pretty much no swiftness for A LOT of classes. Do you think this help casuals? No, they will get even more punished because with inferior map control and awarness they’ll be even slower to react.
No utilities swapping? It just hits variety and fine play. As a mesmer, not being able to switch my utilities hinders what i’ll be able to do immensely, and pigeonholes me in semi effective sub par builds. Say i’m side point holding portaling around when needed. Do i bring that null field? They have a thief on their side. Is he the roamer? Most likely, especially with this no weapon swap thingie hindering other fellas mobility. Is he a caltrops build? I’d need null field. Is he pw or backstab? Null field wasted, one slot wasted. Not bring null field for blink and mirror images standard setup? Good luck if he’s caltrops and he comes to me.
Not being able to adapt is NEVER good.
So. Lemme get this straight.
Thieves have stealth and plenty of evasion on attacks.
Rangers have invuln and plenty of evasive attacks
Warriors have blocks, endure pain, and plenty of mobility to get out of hefty situations, plus access to stability.
Engineers have blocks, knockbacks, blinds, dazes, stealth with combo field
Necros have fear, death shroud (they get it worse here, admittedly)
Guardians have blocks, aegis, protection, invuln, heals, stability
Eles get shock aura, knockdowns, best mobility skill in the game to get ouf of danger, plenty of healing, blocks, knockdowns, invul, stability if they go for it.
But mesmers aren’t fine becuse of blurred frenzy, the only reliable damage avoidance other than distortion in their arsenal.
Kk.
Hello, after my former team disbanded i’ve been trying to find a good bunch of people to play with, but failed so far because of time differences, other roles needed and such, and i’ve pretty much been teamless for the past 2-3 weeks.
I’m looking for an estabilished team, or even a forming one, for competitive paid tournaments play. My QPs at the moment are nothing astounding (teamless), in the 40s, close to 500 T wins. I don’t expect people with a *load of QPs to contact me, but please do have paid experience, otherwise it will all be kinda pointless.
The role i have the most experience with is roamer/semi roamer. Main class is Mesmer, close second Ele, but to be honest i’m willing to go with other classes if the team needs them.
I love theorycrafting and trying out new strategies and builds, i appreciate criticism and if i kitten up, i probably won’t kitten up twice the same way. I’m usually laid back, and i don’t rage quit. I know kitten happens, and unless it happens on a regular basis i’m not the kind of guy that goes berserker over other people mistakes.
I’m online 4-5 hours 5-6 days a week.
Contact me in game, or pm here, ’s all good xD
A phantasm outdamages a single mind wrack “tick”. You can’t compare a single phantasm’s damage to a x3 (4) mind wrack.
If you want to talk about damage in 10 seconds, phantasms still outdamage MW by a hefty margin. 2 phantasms out in 10 seconds, will mean 4 attacks from them total.
It’s merely burst vs sustained.
Numbers on squishies? A mind wrack’s crit tick in a shatter build will hit for 2.5k (optimistic, with might and so on). A phantasm build will have the duelist going over 3k per attack, swordsman can easily crit for 5k, warlock 4.5k, berserker’s buggy and gonna get fixed so no point discussing it now.
So let’s say 10 seconds period. Shatter builds will have let’s say an average 4x MW hitting a squishie for 8k? And blurred frenzy on top of that.
Ten seconds with 2 phantams out? four attacks, let’s average them at 3.5k being really cautious, blurred frenzy on top of that and you can see how your point is really moot.
The simple reason Shatter builds are more popoular in pvp is merely because in the current meta burst is king, not because they outdamage phantasm, and because illusionry persona is freaking awesome for saving your squishie butt too.
you are twisting the truth, people did not complain that there was a list of pre set questions. I called you out that there was a list of taboo questions, that you did not want to answer. And they were all the questions that people really wanted an answer for.
Tbh there’s really no point asking a question that won’t get an answer.
I think you misunderstood the intention of the “interview”
This was not a journalistic piece, where the interviewer would legitimely try to catch the other part en fault, ask itchy questions and so on, this wasn’t the New York times interviewing Mr. President, this wasn’t La Repubblica giving a shot at Mr. B.
This was an extension of Anet communication. We got way more infos in this piece than in any other blog post, and we got a “feel” of how the balance/develop team works, and i applaud the effort of the parties involved, and the balls Johnathan had by showing up at something that could well make it a scapegoat to the community.
I don’t think it’s legit to ask more than this. There’s no way in the world Anet would discuss something they’re not ready to have a talk about, either because they didn’t make up their mind about it yet, or because if they did their plan is in a too early development stage. And acting otherwise on their part would be completely useless as well, and actually counterproductive, either raising false hopes or absurd rages and QQs about something that ain’t even set or planned yet.
If you want answers about the unasked questions about the taboos, you actually have them. They’re a simple implicit “no comment”, which can be read as “we don’t have a plan for it yet” or “we do have a plan but it’s too subject to change to be discussed”.
Basically what FuVirus wants, is for everyone to sit still , not being able to do anything, while he one shots them with the most OP combo in the game so that he can think that he is a god at this game.
I’m on to you.
I dont know why you are lol? and i dont have a oneshot burst what are you talking about? since when can mesmers oneshot people? Thats weird……
You should see glass shatter mesmers …. if i get cought in combo im pretty much 1 shot on my thief.
Problem is, a thief that knows what he’s doing will hardly ever get caught in a mesmer combo. The shatter burst needs the immobilize to work, other wise clones will simply fail to shatter properly on a moving target, barring the particular instance where you pop mirror images and immediately shatter while hugging the thief (and most tourney mesmers don’t run mirror images anyway). You can see why the possibility to spam a relatively low ini cost attack as disabling shot while immobilized and deny all the damage might raise concerns.
As far as i can see, the issue is not with evading moves working under immobilize per se, but it becomes a glaring issue when you can use them without cooldown.
If i’m fighting a ranger, just to bring up a class that can have multiple evades on the same weapon set, i can bait his evades, i can count how much of them he used, and plan accordingly. Same with classes that have access to blocks: if a mesmer wastes his burst on a immobilized warrior that still had shield stance available, it’s his fault, he got outplayed. Thief’s a whole different matter, you can’t really plan against a good one, he will ALWAYS have his evades ready for your immobilize.
Question, or rather suggestion:
- An in game guild browser – application – recruitment tool. I’m seeing a lot of players struggling to find a competitive team, and i’m seeing a lot of teams disbanding because they can’t find a player to fill their roster if another chap leaves. Frankly, shouting in the Mists isn’t enough: chances there are slim, either because when you shout your message no one interested is reading or he’s not even there because in a match, or afk, kidnapped by aliens, on another server, offline and so on. Forums aren’t that much use either to be honest, when it’s about tPvP teams.
A tool allowing people to set some parameters for the team/applicants they’re looking for would help immensely.
Example, player A is looking for team playing x days a week. Team B is looking for a player rank x, with x tourny wins, playing a certain class(es). BAM, system founds you the guys you’re looking for for you to try out/contact. That’d be sweet.
I for one i’m getting kinda tired after my team disbanded of looking around trying to find a bunch akin to what i wanna do, and mostly finding casual-ish people, or people with experience level way too different from each others to work.
As it is, of course not. But it’s not that far away imo.
Core mechanics of combat and classes work well, some fine tuning is of course needed, but overall the balance is pretty good. I don’t believe in the so much proclaimed lack of build possibilities. I’m seeing a lot of original and creative stuff builds wise, involving even the red headed step childs (so far) ranger and warriors, just to name a couple, and even foregoing guardians, and there’s plenty of teams not running a thief, i saw some good ones not running mesmer, and so on and so forth.. And yeah i’m talking paid tPvP, and i’m talking about teams that have beaten top teams.
What is really needed to make it into an e-sport?
- a tracking system, registering wins and losses, w/l ratio, matches history
- a ladder that keeps what mentioned above as its mechanic, and not QPs earned, because let’s face it, altough it’s true the teams currently at the top of that food chain are without an ounce of doubt excellent, but it is just as true there are other excellent teams that just don’t play that much and are far below the position they deserve.
- spectator mode, of course
- a different kind of battle, longer, more engaging, more back and forth. As it is now, i doubt a spectator could really be entertained. The current mechanics don’t really allow spectacular comebacks, and unless it’s a really close match, it’s pretty easy to tell who’s win by the time it’s mid game. GW1 GvG of course comes to mind.
- free tournaments matching people based on their position on the ladder, to encourage new players. As it is now, GW2 is really noob unfriendly, a brand new team of fresh players will justget mercilessly stomped and probably not give it another go after the first times they been spanked.

I am a mesmer, and i think you’re not only over reacting, you’re just absolutely wrong.
It was OP, unblanced, and idiotic that we could keep dishing out damage even if we had no los, or were blinded, and so on and so forth.
I’m not saying we didn’t need a nerf. I was rolling through 3 people at a time in w3. What I’m saying is that the nerf broke a lot more stuff. There is a middle ground. The overreaction is on the Game host side of the nerf. IMO, we should be able to summon a clone as long as there is a target. Whether or not it connects would depend on if we’re blinded etc… Example being that the Mesmer is controlling the illusion and if the Mesmer is blinded, the illusion would miss the attack. I don’t care about that change, I’m angry that I lost the phantasm all together. No phantasm=no utility from it and no damage over the entire cool down.
A Elementalist can blind every 8 seconds iirc. If they kill the other phantasm we summon on our offset weapons we have nothing for the duration of 2 long cool downs.
Thanks for your point of view. I agree with part of it.
We can still create clones out of los, and blinded, and so on. The change affects phantasms only, so most of your argument is really moot. Just pay attention when you’re creating a phantasm and you’re good to go.
The change was needed, because offensive phantasms specs (even if i think they’re subpar compared to a shatter spec used properly) had an unfair advantage over other classes. The side effect on support/tank builds (which i think are absolute kitten, for instance) is marginal at best for whoever is able to pay a minimum of attention to the battle. You can retain your % dmg reduction from illusions by using clones if you’re blinded/don’t have LOS, and regen and protection from phantasm…. seriously, how hard can it be to land a skill -.-
