I’m farily happy with my build both in PvE and PvP

Also seen lots of variations on Engineer in PvP, it’s more a question of play style than viable build, if you want massive burst dmg then sure there might not be that many builds.

Patches.4210

Right now there are a few problems running eyefinity, mainly the immovability of the UI elements ´(WHY OH WHY did you change this from GW1) causing the map to end up to the far right.
The program Flawless Widescreen does nothing more then emulate the same results that you get with nvidia surround, I really want to use this but I don’t really want to get banned for it.
As stated this does nothing more than try to emulate nvidia surround behavior on AMD eyefinity, will one get banned for using this? if so could you please make the UI movable or put in controls for Eyefinity users to get the same experience as surround users?

If they follow they same model as they did with GW1 they will release more areas and content fairly often without any extra cost, then there will also be expansions in the form of Elona and Cantha to come which will cost you about the same as the original game and bring just as much content and updates.

Should note that they are still even now working on some content for GW1, however the GW1 team is smaller due to many being moved to GW2 but still, they have it active and will release more free stuff there.

ArenaNet hasn’t from what I’ve seen ever really placed money before players which is very unique for a major studio.
EDIT:;
Colin Johanson on free content updates in GW2

No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.
On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.
We’ll cover a lot of the details on the kind of support and plans we have in place over the next month or so on the Gw2 blog and with our press partners.
We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!

Forum suggestion: to turn off the profanity censor

in Suggestions

Posted by: Patches.4210

Patches.4210

We have a customizable profanity filter in game, so why not on this website too? It’s annoying to read “kitten” in place of words. Some things that are censored aren’t even really bad language (such as that movie Aaliyah starred in, Queen of thekitten).

indeed, dam-n, and gim-ped are minor at best, if someone is able to be offended by those words they probably shouldn’t be playing at all, because they’re likely 10 years old
(I mean come on, it’s an MMO, g.imped isn’t anything to do with BDSM in that context)
(also lol that g.imped isa banned word, but BDSM isn’t)

While I do agree, g.imped isn’t a BDSM term per-say, g.imp is a derogatory term for someone with a handicap historically stemming from someone that has got a limp and I think that is the reason, however these days I don’t think many use it in that way also there is even a fairly major program out there called g.imp (open-source alternative to photoshop) and the full first page on google is that program if you search that word.

Or you could try five, remove the once you like the least, try the others?
And if you later on want to play those anyway then you either can buy a slot for each for $10 a slot or gather about 2½-3golds ingame and trade that for gems to buy them.

No, the pvp focus in this game is WvW which is why that is the only place to get real rewards for participating in. The other stuff is just to fill time, not to be a total secondary system.

You do know about tournaments, rewards etc, sure the rewards are cosmetic but that’s because sPvP is meant as a sport where everyone is on equal footing gear-wise.
Also sPvP is a totally secondary system, WvW you get bumped to lvl 80, sPvP everyone is a maxed lvl 80 and just like in GW1 PvP rewards etc are cut off from PvE as they don’t require you to PvP or to PvE, you can do which ever you like.
Anet has themselves in interviews said that they have been looking a e-sport for their PvP, which feels more like it’s geared towards e-sport? sPvP and tournaments or WvW? ^^

Sure higher FoV means more work for the graphics card but if it’s a slider you can tweak to what matches your needs, meaning you can priorities if you have to.
Also the FPS isn’t that bad in all cases, some have issues true but not all.

First of the actuall bug, when an admin merges thread the PM link to the new thread doesn’t work, at least not for me? I just get directed to the sub-forum?

Also there was a “admin bug” in a merge, I think an admin merge 2 Field of View threads and 1 camera zoom and “jumpiness” thread causing mass confusion in the thread about what the actual topic is about.
While both relate to camera control field of view is not the same thing as zoom, could some admin if possible separate the thread again or create two “super”-threads, one for FoV and one for camera zoom/control issues?

You can zoom right out with the mouse wheel, and you can look at the sky.

The camera bounces a bit in a few cramped areas, that’s about the worst you can say about it.

What are people talking about here, it sounds like there are several topics being mixed up.

You should really read the thread and watch the youtube videos linked above, zoom and fov are NOT the same thing.

Signed, we need a FoV slider with a good min and max range. The FoV right now is definitely too low on most 16:9 monitors. It makes a huge difference in being able to see the horizon line when you’re playing/not have your character taking up too much room and generally makes the entire experience better.

Preferably a FoV slider for both Horizontal and vertical and a custom aspect creator, IMO most games on PC should have this as gamers more and more use a great variety of screens and resolutions etc.

notebene; The idea isn’t to change the FOV to another set specific but to give those users that want it a fov slider that can set the fov to what fits them best
Also higher FOV means more to render and that can result in lower FPS, some gamers wont care to change it, some might not need to but like it better with higher and for those that suffer from nausea the can make it so the don’t get it or at least minimize it

If it’s something that they did totally different and it’s causing people to be sick, compared to Rift or any of the other games in the last 2 years, or the 12 years before in this genre, then I’m ‘really’ perplexed because I’m not seeing it.

This isn’t something unique to GW2 no, this problem plagues many games sadly but not everyone is affected, it’s like motion sickness, some get it, some don’t.
I myself don’t suffer from it, specially not since I’m an Eyefinity gamer (I get a higher FOV in GW2) but fov matters anyway, if you watch the youtube videos above you get a good explanation but basically it comes down to the ratio between how big your screen is, how far from the screen you are, the aspect of your screen, the fov in the game and how sensitive you are to it.

Hello World! Tell me your opinons - Warrior, Thief or Engineer!

in Players Helping Players

Patches.4210

Edit: Engineer is far from slow paced but you have focus on your profession skills as well as your weapon skills, people seem to think it’s an spam attack class because the main attack is the one used mostly (cause that’s the only thing without cooldown and the other stuff isn’t made for dmg) but they don’t think about the CC or the boon/condition control etc.

- It is slow paced compared to other proffesions.
- It is supportive due to the control.

I can only compare to guardian but can’t say it’s any more slow paced than that and while I can see Thief might for ex. be a bit more intense (in some situations) I think it comes down to your play style more than the profession, every profession is slow paced if you hang back and just do support.
As for support, true that Engineer has good support skills, but that doesn’t mean the class is a pure support class, this as well comes down to play style.
There are three “roles” in GW2
*Damage
*Support
*Control
just like DCUO
An engineer with dmg and crit traits does good dmg, an engineer with healing and boon traits is nice support and for ex. turret traits can be used for control and so on.

This goes for guardian as well and my guess is all the other professions as well, boxing them in to one role only hampers your ability to use the class to its full potential.

Patches.4210

As I only played guardian and engineer so far and engineer mostly I can say this, engineer is extremely versatile and they can do decent dmg with almost unmatched survivability even compared to guardian you just have to know how to use your skills.
Also engineer got more weapon selection than any other class in combat if he/she wants to, engineer is built not around the main weapon but the around the skills you select.

Elixirs = Survival and decent dmg
Turrets = CC or “fortification”
Bomb/Grenade kits = Crowd dmg with Contitions
Flamethrower = dmg / Crowd dmg with burning
Add to that the skills that help you get out of bad situations like slick shoes, Battering Ram, Goggles and Rocket boots.

Just try out what matches your game style and the situation, I usually go Elixirs for PvP and there is nothing wrong with my dmg and I can easily survive 1v1 and often 1v2 and stand a good while against 1v3 if the ones I meet aren’t really good at their classes and got good CC.

My standard sPvP build;

FOV in GW2 headaches and claustrophobic sensations.

in Players Helping Players

Patches.4210

I did not experience similar issues with the game myself; I don’t understand how FOV can bother people so much to the point of having headaches, but I’ve experienced motion sickness by playing Minecraft, so I get these things can happen to anyone.

Motion sickness is often due to a “disconnect” with what you are seeing and/or feeling compared to what the brain expects based on the “data” (i.e. sitting still while eyes believe you are moving) while headache often comes from strain, the strain in the case of FOV is because the eyes try to compensate the “tunnel vision” (which give some motion sickness) like feeling some people get, add to that post-processing which adds blur in an area where the eye expects no natural blur (a lot of people can reduce the headache but turning off stuff that blurs the graphics) you get discomfort and some get headaches.

As any graphics card made the last 5-6years has thermal protection, in Nvidias case I think it was GeForce 8 series that introduced it, that automatically should cut power or throttle if the card even comes close to burning like that meaning your card must have faulted as well as software protection not kicking in and if the card was limited and it didn’t work then it sounds more like a driver problem?

Sucks that your card got toasted and I’m not saying that something in the GW2 code could have helped but the probability that there is something in the GW2 code that overrides all protections that should be there and burns cards while not affecting more than a handful of people is slim to none.

Thing is, when a card gets a few years on it, sooner or later it will give out, you can get lucky and get many years from a card or get one that’s not so good and burns up after a while, this is random and doesn’t have to have a connection to the game you just started and specially if you didn’t have problems before with the same game.
It was just your cards time sadly and as it’s a card that I’m guessing got 2years or more on it it happens =/

Also; a few of those skills are still buggy :/ Rocket boots doesn’t always work as they should but when they do they are a lifesaver as you can use them when you are knocked down etc.

I think you bolded the wrong part.

Um, no. I bolded the correct part that I wanted hilighted. It points out how open to interpretation the policy is.

I’m not criticizing it necessarily as much as pointing out the reality is that you can get banned for anything that is offensive emotionally in any way.

Anet is welcome to run their company in any way they see fit. I’m not telling anyone how to run their business. I am however pointing out the reality is that GW2 is more likely to ban you than any other game you’ve ever played before. Take that how you choose to.

Well the part just after (the part ituhata quoted) that is the part that goes in to describe what the part you highlighted actually means, if not you could use the TOS as your personal ban hammer on anyone that just looks at you funny or just asks you a question in general etc as that could be unwanted attention in your view?
The reason for this specification in contracts/agreements is to avoid them being to open to interpretation.

Downed state is fine, but two changes need, omg NEED to be made:

1) when they’re really dead, take them off my screen. Completely and immediately. No more corpses laying around. Let their team mates rez them, but if I can’t kill them more, why can I see them?

2) in wvw if I’m capable of getting loot, just give it to me. The sparkly bag on the ground gets totally lost in zerg situations (which is most of the time). Truly annoying.

1) They remain as respawn is timer based 15sec I think they need to wait for that or if they prefer a buddy to res them but generally people are waiting for the clock.

2) Turn on Auto Loot?

As for down state, it take anyone trying to learn no more than 1 day to learn how the different classes down states work and while it may take ~3-5 seconds more to get the actual kill it’s not that hard, what’s more problematic is the differences between some classes as to their cooldown on down state skills.
Some have counters from start, some even AoE counters, while some have singel knock down with CD, this could use an overlook but the mechanic itself works fine as it promotes helping your team mates instead of just bolting when they start to drop.

The FoV in this game is a little close. But that’s because (what I think) it’s designed around WvWvW. You’d have too much of an advantage to be able to see the entire battlefield. Looking over walls for secretly played siege equipment would be bothersome for many in there.

This is simply not true as GW2 has native support for 3Dsurround / Eyefinity and works fairly well, still not perfect I would love some fov (both vert and horizontal) and aspect controls etc to remove the stretching but anyway, I get a much higher fov using Eyefinity than if I’m not using it.
Can you spot the difference? :P (only thing changed between pushing PrtScn is resolution from 5940×1080 to 1920×1080)

1920×1080
5940×1080
this forum doesn’t allow images but direct links instead (imageshack hosted)

Notice the Asura gate is not clipped and I see much more using the higher resolution so if fov was fixed because of WvW then why would multi-screen users get higher fov and not just a distorted stretched screen?
