What OP said. A thousand times this. Knock it off with the JPs and logic puzzles mid level too. It’s not fun, it breaks immersion, it’s obviously padding out content. Stop it.

you might want to download pingplotter and discover where the actual problem is. it might not be a problem with Anet’s servers, but somewhere in between you and them.

other games might run fine, as well as other websites, but it all depends what route you are connecting to them through.

Too many people are having the same problem over too many different places for it to be a simple ISP issue.

It’s not just game bloat. It’s packet loss. More and more people are having these issues with big lag spikes and disconnects. It started last week but has gotten progressively worse.

I’m in Central Florida. I am having the same issue as well. It’s been going for a bit over a week now. Massive lag, packet loss, internet connection is fine and ports are open so there shouldn’t be a problem. Seems to mostly happen at peak hours. I think someone between Anet and the players is throttling. It’s the only thing I can think of that would cause it. Though I’m not a technician and I am just as in the dark as anyone else. Nice to know I’m not alone though.

I’m having the same exact issues. My connection is stable and strong, my ports are open, it’s not my end. My ping during peak hours shoots up over 2k, I lose connection. Packet loss is high. Affects other computers in the house as well. Yet many other players say their connection is fine and that it is on my end. Ive put in two support tickets so far and aside from the packet loss revelation no other fix was made apparent. I don’t know what Telia is, I use Centurylink. But I suspect it’s the same issue. I wish they would put someone on the thread to address it. This all started for me last week suddenly and hasn’t improved since. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one dealing with this. At least I know I’m not crazy.

On dungeons I will say this. Players are sell swords. Mercenaries. We do content specifically for loot and money. Fun plays a large part yes. But if you want us to play your content, like dungeon paths, you have to reward us in a manner that is consistent with the effort and time invested. Otherwise they empty out and you are left with an largely abandoned attraction.

It may not be your intention, but nerfing dungeon rewards while keeping things like token armor and weapons at the same price will have the net result of emptying out that content in favor of something that pays out as well but requires less effort.

It is a challenging thing managing where your population clusters, and I know you guys have lots of content you want to attract people to. But I would ask that you not dictate to your player base. Don’t tell them “You do fractals now.” And adjust rewards to enforce it. They will rebel and resent it. Instead watch where we go and why. Produce new content that caters to, rather than trying to adjust away from that behavior. The fractals were not made for the purpose of farming. They were made for hard core gamers (many of which have moved on to other games because of inherently short attention spans) who demanded some content that was face meltingly difficult so they could brag about it’s completion. It was not intended for what is a majority casual player base.

Personally I dislike them a great deal. I hate heights, and I don’t like jumping puzzles, and fractals have both of those things along with several other mechanics I do not enjoy. And I felt the payout did not fit the time and difficulty put in. But I did put a lot of time and effort into dungeon paths which I found acceptably challenging given my time constraints and felt the rewards fit the effort given.

In the end that is what matters. If people will do your content. The greatest roller coaster on earth is no good if you can’t get enough people to ride it because it’s to scary. So when you produce things like fractals that have such a narrow focus you have to accept that those who frequent them are relatively fewer in number than those in the world at large. This turned out a bit more rambly than I intended but it’s just my thoughts and opinions on it.

On this note I believe I have found a really dark side of the GW2 forums. It seems like almost every single player here, would much rather sweep the problem under the rug and ignore it rather than fix it. Even to the point of defending the ones breaking the rules. Yes i completely understand that ignoring a problem is both easy and fast, but your coming up with multi step plans just to do so. Its like the people breaking the Code of Conduct have set your feet on fire and instead of putting out the fire or taking the fire away from them you start dancing and hopping around. of course this takes some of the burn away, but they are still laughing at you and look at you as a trophy, you are the one they made dance and did nothing to stop them. Then they move onto the next Player, who may not know what you know and then are harassed relentlessly. All your doing is moving the problem into someone else’s lap and you are literally telling me you could not care less because its not your problem after you started ignoring it instead of fixing it. This is the opposite of what our community should be.

In fact its the opposite of what I want to be in every way. I don’t Just want to Follow a multi-step program on how to ignore it and allow these individuals continue on when they are legitimately breaking a written rule. I want to fix the problem for Everyone, Not just myself. Right now there seem to be two choices. You can ether stand with me on this as a community wanting problems fixed forever and not worrying about it happening to others. Or you can continue to ignore these problems until they start to spiral into even more violent or aggressive behavior against the Code of Conduct, and in all honesty I know that I will ether have an entire army behind me or i will stand alone against and army of everyone who just prefers to ignore, but i do know I will not stop until even the smallest of problems are solved.

Pretty much all this. And it isn’t just conduct they want to ignore, but broken aspects of the game it’s self as well. There is so much brown nosing in the forums trying to stay on the good side of the devs on the off chance it might get them something down the road, or just good old fashioned fanboyism.

Wintersday Meta, Dailies, and Difficulty

I cannot disagree with the OP more.
Wintersday- for the daily you just need to hit 1 note and not get kicked off the platform. Since you are talking about the daily and not the meta, it is that simple.
PVE- I presume you want more generalized quest completion daily. That is the only daily that is specific to a map while every other daily is for a region. If you truely are spending hours doing your dailies, for Gods sake, hop into PVP and cap a node or something. You can basically sneeze in PVP or WVW and get another daily complete.

To make your life easy, open up daily achievement pane, look for the vista viewer, map boss and harvester. Do those and rejoice. Or if you are still not complete because you just missed the boss, do the easy pvp ones, in one hot join you can typically get 2/3 of the daily unless you happen to have the class specific win for that day and you can go 3/3 in 10 min.

You miss the point of the game. I should HAVE to “just do something else” when it wasn’t broken in the first place. Generalizing daily events, as it was before, does not require an overhaul of the system and allows the player to play when and how they want. This is not an issue. There is nothing to “disagree” with, because there is well over a year of evidence to back it up.

I’m disagreeing with the OP completely.

Wintersdaymeta: I too sat 10/11 and QQ that I would never make the Bell Choir thingie in order to complete it. Then I decided to look into it, ask people while doing BC and put some effort in and in no time I had my meta done. Sometimes things in life just take a little effort and the willingness to take your time to learn. Sadly many games spoonfeed you these days and once a game gets a kittenallenging (no clue why I’m being kittened here? ), everyone complains.

Same goes for the new Daily system: sure, I missed out on events because I couldn’t get my damage in through the zergs. Still I just keep going and I still completely my dailies way faster than before. Also it pays off to have toons that have completed the map. You are shown where the closest event is! Also it pays off to know about the map, know where event chains start or which are contains a lot of chains in general.

The only thing I maybe like to see is that you can change that compass thingie, that points you to nearby interesting stuff, to show just events and not personal story or poi’s and stuff. That would accommodate playing toons that haven’t completed the map yet.

It’s insane now how many people clamor for events, scream about not getting credit, complain about broken events. Why would changing the category simply do “daily events” without specifying a zone hurt things? I’m not suggesting they revert to the old system wholesale. Just generalize more so we aren’t forced into a specific zone. So we can do things on our own without having to rush after a zerg that clears events in seconds. Not all of us have computers that let us load to a new WP in milliseconds.

The Bell Choir for the meta achievement isn’t really that hard. It was more time consuming than difficult. You can be horrible at it but it’ll still count towards the achievement provided you hit some notes. I was often in the bottom 50% for score. Despite that I had the meta achievement finished within 2days.

The Wintersday daily is optional if you want more achievement points/gifts and isn’t needed for the festival meta achievement anyways.

That’s the thing. I did hit a few notes. I didn’t get credit for anything. I was there for hours.

I am really impressed at how lazy players had become… Those achievement with daily don’t take more than 15minutes to complete.
No one is forcing you to play what you don’t like… And just don’t. Let the players who do like it, play.
I presume you do it for achievements points. The name says… You need to do something harder in order to achieve something.
Or you would just like to do things like build a snowman, kill a rat? What is the fun in that. Or should anet just make some tetris or kid style game so we can all farm 10000 achievement points in 3 days.
Why do you hunt AP if you don’t have skill to do basic things? Enjoy the content you like, play game for fun it offers. You don’t like music puzzle or jp . Then just don’t do it. Go and do what you are good at doing. That’s all.
And let the others enjoy a bit harder and different content

It didn’t take more than 15 minutes the old way. And that didn’t require you to chase a zerg. Stop apologizing for a broken system. The stated reason the change happened in the first place was to “reduce grind”. This is a casual game. For casual players. If you want hardcore grind then I might suggest WoW.

I second this and I’d like to add my own thoughts which may echo points OP already brought up.

When it comes to doing events with the current Daily system, it introduced (in my opinion) some unneeded headaches. There are zergs trying to do events for the Daily and everyone is spamming “1” like a madman, only to have a handful of said zerg get credit while everyone else doesn’t. It’s happened to me on several occasions and it’s not fun. While, yes, there’s less to do to get Daily rewards, there lacks the variety that the previous Daily system had.

With regard to Wintersday, the lack of variety and options for those Daily’s is also disappointing and pretty much drove me away from all of those events. I too don’t have the reflexes and/or the keyboard responsiveness needed to do the Wintersday Daily JP’s and Bell Choir. Compare that to the Halloween Daily meta where (in my opinion) there was so much more to choose from.

Like OP, I feel like the Daily needs to be generalized a bit more. That or bring back the variety the previous Daily system had.

This to, the lack of daily categories for PvE is disheartening. You had so much more freedom in the old system to go your own way. Why did that need to change just because you reduced the number needed to complete the daily?

You like Bell Choir. I get that. You like JPs. I get that to. But shutting people who don’t or can’t do ether completely out of the title track is unreasonable. I do not have the reflexes to do Choir. I lack a keyboard responsive enough to do the jumping puzzle. I have however put hours into every other title track, including repeating the snowball mayhem and toypocalypse titles only to find out the copies don’t count. I can’t complete the dailies because it still wants 5 tiers completed but insists on every rotation inserting the 2 things I can’t do and don’t enjoy in the bloody thing! Stop that! I don’t want to play guitar hero! Give us more options for filling out the meta without forcing us into a small set of activities please. (sigh)

Now that we are past that I would like to add that your new daily system is causing problems. Specifically in the zone specific events category. It is causing the same kind of zergs and mad rush to complete content that you got away from when you demoted the Queensdale champions to vets. I know you want people to explore your content. I know you want to give exposure to under represented zones. But jamming your entire player base into them just to finish a daily is not the way to accomplish this. Nor is making them wait around for hours to complete a specific world boss. There was nothing wrong with the previous daily categories. They didn’t need to be changed. Just reduced. Assuming your stated goal of reducing grind was indeed sincere.

Generalize the daily. Don’t specify a certain zone for events, just ask for events. 4 or 5 of them is fine, but don’t tell them where they must be done. Let the players adventure where they will. You want them to play like THEY want after all. Get rid of daily (insert meta boss here). World zergs do them anyway. Bring back salvage, or dodger to replace it. Something that can be done quickly and importantly without needing a zerg, and without needing to wait an hour or more for a world boss. That is the definition of grind. Don’t micromanage us. As long as we put in the play time we should get the credit. Both for dailies AND festival meta.

In the short term, the Flame Legion, the Inquest, the White Mantle and possibly a renewed Mursaat threat. The nightmare court will be a constant thorn in the Pale Tree’s side, until the nature of the nightmare is understood and resolved. The centaur tribes will forever run amok until they are united as a nation under rule of law, or until they are wiped out. Palawa Joko will threaten everything without the dragons containing his push north. And who’s to say the dragons are the only ancient threat? What of the Gods of the former races? Where did they go? What if they come back and empower their peoples once more? The Jotun were once terrifying. They could be again. What of the Seers? The wizard’s tower in Garrenhoff? The isles of Janthir? There are plenty of battles yet to fight. To say nothing of threats not yet arisen.

Just a question here because I am curious. The idea of the Living World is that there is a storyline that you take part in, that you are involved in events that shape Tyria in permanent ways—how would you all convey the sense of progression and change without also making changes to the landscape? I see a couple of comments regarding creating things, not simply destroying. Do you all have any other ideas?

I think, the way the real world tends to work, and the way the best stories tend to work, is that the good tends to outweigh the bad. When something is destroyed it is rebuilt. When something is devastated it heals. Where there is death there is also birth. For every corruption, redemption. As for Kessex hills, it is Kryta’s breadbasket. It was already sundered to pieces by centaurs who have inexplicably escaped being effected by things that would have logically wiped them out in the same measure as the other races. And now that the tower has exploded the creatures contained within are still somehow alive. I think Entangled handled matters much better though chiefly through introducing a new zone rather than destroying another. Personally, I would diminish the destruction in kessex slightly, you needn’t reduce events to accomplish that. The centaurs should be shown having suffered in that zone as much as any other race has. The tower should have driven many of them mad with hallucinations without the protections Marjory and the priory devised. Rebuild Lions Arch, using the metal debris from the Breachmaker to lend the new structures a more industrial steampunk/pirate motif, and show that the captain’s counsel has learned some lessons of how to defend a city in the process. The humans, who’s numbers are diminished, should resort to using watchwork knights as soldiers to fill in their numbers. It would show they have learned something from trading for 200 plus years with the asura. I would ease tensions further between the humans and the charr, and give Ebonhawk recognition as a semi autonomous multi-racial city. You could in game make it a city the same way LA or the black citadel are etc. Airships would become even more common. Things in general would become more mechanized as the races modernize and gear up for full scale war with the elder dragons. After Mordremoth is dead, every year after that another elder dragon encounter should be had. In the process the remainder if the tyria map would be opened, cantha, elona, and long unanswered lore questions answered. The wizards tower mystery, the gargoyles disappearance, the fate of the mursaat, dhuum, the six gods, should all be answered. The story is everything. The lore is everything. It must be told.

Get rid of gold. Convert everything to karma or some other account bound currency that cannot be traded, that is so easy to acquire that it would be of no benefit to sellers even if they could, and heap it upon your players in such quantity that they will never want for more and you don’t have to manage a economy. Artificial scarcity generates need. Need that real people with actual scarcity will prey upon to fulfill their own needs, real or imagined. The way you prevent a fire is to deny it fuel. So deny the gold sellers gold. Give them nothing to work with and they will leave you alone. And don’t become them in the process for the sake if a few extra bucks.

Wait the DPS on conditions is about the only thing that let the necromancer kill at all. We ARE conditions. Take that away and you still have a nerfed condition cap, and broken weak minions. The necro becomes completely worthless. Look guys I know you want to balance PVP but us PVE guys need some love to. In the end the game is about turning full bars health into empty ones, and we can’t do that if you are so afraid of a strong necromancer. Plane old DPS is fine for warriors and Eles but that isn’t what Necros do. We are SUPPOSED to come at you sideways, to take unconventional approaches to turning a health bar to zero. We are supposed to be able to kill as fast as any Ele, just differently. If you turn us into full support you will see people leave the class en masse simply because they cannot kill effectively with it. If you simply must then fix the minions AI, give them some AOE damage reduction, at least give us a good minion master option. We don’t do enough raw DPS with staff, scepter, axe to make a zerker build as decent as the Ele/War and it isn’t what we should be about any way. You put them in the game. You made them what they are. Let them be that, or remove them.

Ideas for Elder Dragon battles.

Phage The Blighted.6350

For Kralkatorrik: Snaff isn’t dead. Not truly. His body died while his mind was linked to the elder dragon. And there he remains. Struggling to keep the dragons power in check through pure force of will and superior intellect. Destinies Edge discovers this as a Pact offensive against the dragon begins. A method is devised that will weaken the dragon and allow Snaff to subsume the dragons power and will much in the same way Kormir did with Abbadon. Thus the first asura to rise to godhood. Zojja and the other members of destinies edge get their final absolution for Snaff’s passing, and asura gain a sage or deity of sorts with which to gain insight about the nature of the eternal alchemy that cannot otherwise be quantified. Zojja would become the first priestess/scientist/sage of what arises. Perhaps softening some of her hard edges in the process and developing as a character.

For Primordus: The Pact devise a means of drawing the dragon from deep underground so they can use their strongest weapons against him. With the aid of the stone dwarves still lead by King Jalis, and perhaps factions of dredge skritt and other subterranean races destines edge and the pact manage to chase the dragon up through a volcano ether at mount maelstrom or the ring of fire island at Abbadon’s Mouth or Hell’s Precipice. If the latter, along the way remnants of the battles fought there in the past are revisited, such as the ruins of the mursaat fortresses and dwarf encampments. More of the lore of the flame seeker prophecies is explored. Upon the dragons death the right of the great dwarf ends. The deldrimor are returned to flesh and blood beings. Tyria regains the dwarves who would ether return to their place in the shiverpeaks, or migrate into Kryta proper to coexist with their closest allies the humans.

And as each dragon dies it’s kin in turn become more aggressive as ambient magic levels rise. Without competition for food the remaining dragons should become stronger, more akin to weather events than creatures. They should also begin clashing with one another, minions of the remaining seen fighting in several locations.

The six human deities should also return, in some small part at least, to inform why they vanished in the first place, which I believe should be to starve the elder dragons of the magic their presence would bring. They left to keep the situation from getting worse. With fewer dragons remaining their forces present a more focused target and the risk of contact by the six is reduced.

The idea here is that as each dragon dies, a past tragedy or sin is absolved. The world recovers one step at a time and things are put right that should never have gone wrong. Eventually even the humans and charr come to some understanding as they realize much of their past conflicts have been great manipulations by malevolent beings far older than ether race. There may always be another battle on the horizon. But after the elder dragons Tyria’s long night is ended. Fear yields to elation. A new era of growth begins as races forced together by circumstance finally come to some understanding and perhaps admiration of each others strengths. Happy endings and pie for all!

Here’s mine.

1. First person perspective so you can see in tight places. It’s difficult sometimes indoors to really see where you are going. Especially as a norn. The semi transparent thing is annoying, and sometimes the camera goes nuts on the zoom.

2. Single player option for story mode dungeons. Adjust the difficulty, loot scale, NPC strength, whatever you have to do but fully half the story, including the final battle, is in the dungeons and I’m in a tiny guild. I’m missing to much story. I don’t want to spam for PUGs that don’t materialize. And I don’t want to be excluded from content because of that.

3. And this is simply a personal annoyance. Reduce or eliminate the teleportation fee. You have enough money sinks in game between armor repairs, the black lion skimming your profits, and various items you can only buy from vendors when salvaging, crafting, etc.

4. Merge the damage tables for level 80 rare and exotic weapons and armor. Ecto is to rare and expensive and it’s required in everything exotic. The uptake is that it takes the poorer in the community forever to reach their max damage and defense potential which in level 80 areas or for character growth in general is essential. The alternative of course could be to reduce the number of ectos required, or to increase the drop rate, and award them for completing parts of your personal story or from event chests.

5. A person to person trade UI to facilitate honest equitable trade between players who wish to commission crafters, and said tradesmen.

6. A return to the 2 denomination system from the first Guild Wars. It’s comfortable and familiar to those of us who played it. Copper silver gold is just annoying, and contrary to the lore since Zojja herself mentions winning “100 platinum” on a bet.

Ear spikes! Four sided pixelated ear spikes! I never had this problem before, and Ive only noticed it once on an NPC, Tonn the demolitionist. And it only seems to be on this character. My other asura don’t have this issue. Strange four sided spikes appeared just in front of his ears. He is wearing a mix of temple and crafted T6 armor transmuted to appear like T1 asura racial. Though the spikes appeared before the transmutation. I swear they weren’t there before. If you can fix it I would appreciate the lack of horrifit horns jutting from his ears. I’m fairly certain he doesn’t have any charr in his bloodline anywhere.
