Would be great if this was intended as the power block in the original game went through skills that prevented interrupts. However, it doesn’t look very intended to me.
Same thing just happened in Sorrow’s Furnace as well.
It makes sense that it doesn’t work in EotM, considering it’s an overflow of sorts, that takes player from various servers and put them together. I’m just curious if they weren’t supposed to work in open world.
Since the last patch (EotM), all the World Bonuses gained from WvW do not seem to apply to the game world (at least, the two obvious ones, +max health and +healing, in dungeons and open world PvE of your world). I’m not sure if this was intentional or a result of a bug from the last patch. I didn’t see this mentioned in the patch notes so perhaps this is a bug?
This thread went off topic quickly…
I just wanted to say, while the AA of frost bow is terrible, frost bow 5 can be useful in some situations as it freezes bosses for 5 seconds if they didn’t have the defiant stopping it.
As for the golem part, smokescreen + blast + shadow refuge can just take your whole party through without much trouble (considering you said you’re more PvP focused, I’m guessing you know the smoke field + blast quite well). The WP there doesn’t spawn until after abomination dies, which makes its existence completely pointless.
The pug way for p2 now seems to be to pull her back and range her (near the “bridge” thing on the left) and LoS when she spins back at the center. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-TooTDEMXo also gives a good explanation of what to do. It’s important to note that anyone getting hit by the pull will generate the bomb, but I think you may already know that.
As for whether they hotfixed Alphard, I did do a solo p2 run yesterday and during it I ran out of endurance and had to use endure pain when Alphard pulled. It seemed like the bomb still triggered instantly like it currently does, and it hit me 4 times in total (checked the combat log after).
So he is well known among people who run Arah. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who reported him. I guess anet just hasn’t looked into it or think that griefing people in Arah isn’t breaking the Rules of Conduct, even though the very first thing in the actual document states:
“While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players. "
PS: LFG tool really needs to prevent people from being able to join quickly when they’re on your block list.
As for the topic, that’s really quite strange. I’ve never seen that happen before in my runs. Is this something that just started lately or has it always been like that?
You can still reflect Alphard’s pull.
just tried wall of reflection, it doesnt reflect. only shield works.
I do believe that if anyone or any minions get hit by the pull at all, the bombs will still spawn, but if no one got it at all (due to reflection) then a bomb will spawn that attacks back. Were you alone when you reflected or was there other people/pets that got pulled?
Actually I just managed to solo Alphard just to prove that even after the buffs he’s still pretty easy. It was an afk fight to be honest. I have no idea why are you complaining. Pics attached.
That quest thats is showing in your pic “Navigate the labyrinth of arah” is up, which means you didnt get to Lupicus, so you cheated!
If you look at his combat log… he was using a trident to kill Alphard.. so he somehow pulled her far enough to probably just AFK attack it to death.

How the hell do you get past Lupi and kill Alphard without finishing your daily dodger?
Managed to solo it, did take a few tries.. Now there’s a patch, I wonder if they’re going to fix it.

Dodging, positioning, skill use at the right time, stun breakers, etc. There’s lots of intricacies to the combat. Killing a mob that stands there and tank your hits obviously wouldn’t tell you that much about the combat.
Do know that, in light of recent events, GW2 is really not what it was advertised to be. sPvP lacked many of the things that it needed to make it a proper e-sport, and “gear progression” is slowly being added in despite the fact that it was advertised as something that would never be in the game.
i think he equped dusk
the staff he is giving to his wife..:(
his offline now
How is that possible if he just started on a trial account? Unless he crafted his way to lvl 80 right quick?
Even though I feel that my $60 for the original pre-purchase of this game was well spent in simply the amount I’ve played up to this patch, I can see myself requesting a refund, even though I have absolutely zero desire to get my money back. The reason being that it may be the best way to have ANet and, more importantly, NCsoft hear my voice, as this sudden change of course is likely the publisher’s doing.
B. Avid fans of the genre, and knew what they were buying in to. Bought the game for the no treadmill, no grind manifesto. However, due to bugs, lack of S/T PVP features, or what they perceived as class/build imbalances left the game. This group is HUGE compared to group A. Simply having a Patch Test Server from the start, and listening to the community when they nerf the wrong things, as well as fixing bugs before injecting content/nerfing would have kept many from this group around.
Personally, I did feel quite frustrated with various lingering bugs in the game, and not only did ANet fail to fix them, they introduced other things that made workarounds at the time harder and/or impossible. Case in point: there is a heart quest in Timberland Falls (I think?) that had a blocking DE that would despawn ALL of the mobs that would count toward the completion of the heart, and since I was only able to find two things to do (collect artifact that spawned once every 5 minute or so, only to give about 5% or less progress each and killing the mobs that weren’t there), it became quite a chore to complete that heart quest. This could’ve been mitigated by changing server, but ANet introduced the server transfer limit without the ability to guest. Of course, I understand that ANet did this to prevent WvW abuse; but instead of making a more suitable fix for the problem (such as disabling WvW for x days after transfer), they simply did the quick and dirty way of having a cooldown on transfer, which, compounded by bugs and the singleton nature of the maps (when they’re not full enough for overflow), made things worse. So I do believe (or at least, I want to believe) that ANet incorrectly assumed the reason for people leaving, as you have pointed out.
Even if gear progression is the conventional norm in the MMO scene, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s required for the game to be successful. As many have pointed out already, here and elsewhere, it is often incorporated into this genre due to WoW without considering whether it is the source of its success or not. It reminds me of how culture works with humans in general: that if it works (and by “works”, I mean the purely Darwanian sense in that the population is reproducing), people will follow the culture entirely even if bits of it are counterproductive to survival of the population.
On top of this, ANet themselves claimed that ANet is founded to innovate, and that they want it to show in GW2. Is GW2 conventional? In many ways, yes. Does this mean they should carry over all the stereotypical aspects of the conventional MMO, regardless of the individual “good” of each aspect? I think not. And for a long time, I had felt that they struck a good balance between what they do take from other games and what they innovate themselves, because, after all, being able to appeal to a larger group of people by incorporating familiar elements without compromising the integrity of the game is almost always a good thing in MMO, as it creates a healthy population. This is why that I, a long time follower of franchise, felt that GW2 was very promising, despite its resemblance to the conventional MMO.

Probably the best explanation as to why this is happening.
As an old GW1 player, I have to admit this update is fairly upsetting to hear. It’s not so much that the new ascended item would be so overpowered, but rather that ANet is compromising its own principles that drew so many people to the game in order to attempt to cater to some insatiable players. Personally, I wouldn’t quit the game over this, but I am voicing my unhappiness regarding the incoming changes.
It is fairly important to note that it’s possible that these Ascended items are locked into the Explorer stats, which means that it is strictly power and precision (and magic find but that doesn’t affect combat), so a Berserker’s exotic equivalent would still yield higher power. However, the simple fact that it appears flat out better than the current Explorer’s exotic equivalent makes ANet’s original manifesto seem like a lie.
And @Erasculio.2914, don’t shoot the messenger.
A rise in price for all goods across the board is unavoidable imo. As soon as Anet does a mass ban on botter prices will rise quickly on everything.
Keep in mind, though, that a large amount of gold is generated by bots, and while it will decrease the supply of items if bots are banned, it will decrease the supply of gold as well, which can (potentially) counteract the increase in price.
In all fairness, you can’t seriously compare the auto attack damage of trident to daggers, because they are quite different (that’s probably like comparing churning earth, dagger earth 5’s burst damage, to staff earth 5).
While I do feel most of the points you stated are valid, some of them aren’t technically bugs (mob density, damage, etc), but rather design choices, and I feel that they are more suggestion-y than bugs.
Also, I’d like to add #6: while underwater, dodging backwards goes in the opposite direction as you would expect (while the camera is facing downward, you dodge downward when you dodge back).

Just attempted to gather wood from an Orrian Sapling in Cursed Shore, with an Orichalcum Logging Axe; the first “chop” did give me Ancient Wood as it usually does. But the second and third “chop” both gave me Ruined Logs (as you can tell from the chat log).
Before someone comment that I switched logging axe: if I did, it would have shown up as “You receive so-and-so logging axe” in the chat log.
If it matters: this is a respawn of a gather node that I have gathered probably around 16 hours ago.
