I know how we can fix PvE issues.

Taunt.

It would fix 90% of their mechanic problems in raids/fractals. It would allow people to run tank builds, healing builds, and dps builds.

We get it, the removal of the holy trinity sounded cool. But it doesn’t work. Clearly. Please give us a taunt that every class could learn just for pve. It doesn’t have to be added in PvP.

I noticed thiefs in hot joins using a P/P build that would wreck my chonomancer to shreds. They would throw 10+ conditions on me within seconds and I dropped.

Anyone know what type of build this was?

Add a trait or built into every phantasms spell (not including clones); Phantasms have 10 (or however long) secs of distortion when summoned. This should allow our phantasms 2 rotations with haste trait before being instant destroyed. I like this idea because in pvp and pve it gives us time to do our proper dmg before our dmg can be destroyed.

Like other classes we have to cast our spells, but unlike other classes our dmg can be instant gibbed because how phantasms and clones work. You know how many times my shatter or phantasm combo was ruined by a simple aoe cleave?

Uhm… are there not a few skills mobs use that are not affected by blind? I know there have been a few mobs I know I have blinded yet their abilities still hit me.

You shouldn’t be having a problem tagging mobs while running around, specially at higher levels with any class. You know why? You should be tagging mobs while he tags others. Ya’ll should just kill mobs separatly but nearby each other so you both get credit for kills. As a ele you have so many aoe abilities that tagging mobs, even low hp mobs, shouldn’t be a problem. And you should know that at 80, higher level areas have SO MANY MOBS!!! That its almost impossible to leave a road or town without attracting a zombie horde.

If you are not enjoying any of the weapon skills, try out a conjure weapon. All of them are really fun to use. Lightning hammer does the best AA dmg with some fun CC and leap abilities mixed in. Fire weapons have weaker AA dmg but have good fire combo fields that your friend can use as well as you. Bow 4 is strong while shield is mainly for funsies.

Yup, staff is highest dmg output.

Rotation I like to use:
Lightning – > Glyph of Storms
Water – > 2
Earth – > 2, 5
Fire → 2, Arcane Blast, Ice Bow 4, 5, 1 spam

Stay in fire for rest of fight if I can.

No, they are completely different. One is a random, disorganized list that one must shift through countless posts to find one or two builds… not to mention testing each build to make sure they work well.

This thread provides a simple, easy to read list of good builds. Thank the GW2 lords they sticked this… now if we could get one for necros and every profession.

We really need a updated thread with all the current, good sPvP builds. I was considering starting one. I hate searching google for the updated builds. The build thread on here is badly outdated. Not to mention all the builds are done by 1 guy who has awfully long tutorial videos that could easily be shortened with a link to the build. Who got time for that?

As far as finding builds goes, I’ve had a lot of success with searching Youtube instead of Google. Be sure to search within a week/month.

Also, a big thank you for all who put their videos online. Makes life easier for us who have very limited ammounts of time.

I also appreciate the work and time, but please shorten the tutorial videos and separate the gameplay! Or have a minute of gameplay. :P Don’t forget to post the link to the build!!!!!

I tried the build posted recently as well. I enjoyed it but in solo hot join it’s much easier to down people as condi necro. The trinket is the biggest difference. Maybe if I tried to switch berz amulent… but i hate losing all that dps.

Here’s my assumption on why Dev’s are replying more to Warrior threads.

They are looking at ways to balance warriors, aka nerfs. So rather than buffing under-powered profession they want to nerf powerful profession in current meta.

Skyhammer is AWESOME!

This map promotes & requires an entirely different gameplay which is the key problem for most people that dislike it. They go in applying the same build, strategy and fighting patterns assuming its all that is needed. For most profession just changing the weapon or a few utilities is enough, but many refuse. On top of doing regular damage, positioning now become important for your survival and also your opportunity to kill.


I wreck this warrior in the room and he bolts out. I get on the cannon then next thing I know I’m falling.

Using the canon isn’t risk free. You need to watch your back and not be tunnel vision trying to shoot the cannon. Position the canon camera angle so you can see when they are about to enter the cannon room. Exiting the cannon room to reset and come back is a strategy, and you got outplayed.


I’m sorry I have no knockbacks or fears on my class but instead Shadowsteps that are constantly bugging out due to the holes in the floor.

This map has nothing to offer me.

A thief is really hard to knock off if they use their abilities correctly.

-Stealth, stand on glass panel, scorpian wire pull, dodge off
-Use steal f1 ability to port back if you get knocked or feared off, or shadow trap or shadowstep or sword 2.
-Use steal f1 to remove stability or sword3 skill and gain stability/fear ability
-Blind them to prevent being knocked back and wasting their CD

I doesn’t matter that cc is short duration because there is no immuity or diminshing returns. Also, almost no games have long duration cc anymore so it doesn’t really matter that its short. Short is the new standard. Sensible designers understand that being chained CC is not fun for the player and is bad gameplay. Leeto wanna be e-sports game designers I guess think its just fine and dandy to be able to theorectically lock someone in place until they are dead if stun breaks are down. Its your fault for being a baddie!

I don’t really have any problems with CC hammer warriors. Then again, I usually have a stun break on my utility bar no matter what build or profession I play. By the time I stun break I can dodge out and go cra cra CRAZY on them. Hammer wars with powerful burst are very squishy. Once you break out of their stun lock they are toast.

i know how the thief stealth works it’s just doing damage or actions does not reveal them so if your entire team is on them and they stealthed and you have a person down that thief can finish them off without even being seen

I think this alone is a little OP. I believe stealth should be broken after they take a certain amount of damage.

Eh but if they did this, I don’t know if anyone would play a thief in sPvP.

Interrupted/feared during stability

Yeah I thought about that, or maybe boon stealing? Sometimes there is so much going on its hard to tell what’s happening if you know what I mean. Stability can be stolen or removed right?

Edit: One other thing, how does corrupt boon affect long duration boons? It seemed to me that I was feared, but then my stability returned after the fear.

I’m guessing when I was interrupted during a stomp (not fear) it was a Mesmer or thief boon strip, I can’t think of anything else.

It can be from a multiple sources that strip you of stability. For all we know you could have simply not notice that the boon wore off or someone else stripped your boon.

I not 100% sure if stability can be stripped, but I think it can be.

Guess you are bad at being pushed/pushing people.

Play smart and don’t get on the gun. Stay on point B if you are so bad that you can’t use stability, dodge, or stun break out of pushes.

We do have a escape mechanic. It’s the wurm. Pop it next to the fight. There ya go, one free teleport escape.

I wouldn’t be asking for more. Try playing a mesmer, they die so dang quickly they truly need the stealth. Our tainted shackles and life transfer from DS is so OP against stealth right now. What do engineers get? A 3 second immunity to everything. Great… till you grow up and die from the zerg attacking you. With my necro i can jump in, cast my staff aoe, DS tainted shackles and life transfer. Usually take down 1 or 2 people in the zerg before they can kill me.

Necros are crazy strong at the moment.

Not sure what mesmer you are playing, but they are one of the most survivable classes with mobility and stealth…. If you take the boons on stealth trait they are nearly impossible to take down. Also engineers have the 25% condition immunity which is insane… leaps, boons, super speed…

Not saying there is anything wrong with all that, but you overstate the case for necro survivability.

Like I said DS completely counters any stealth based class. Mesmers and thiefs are extremely squishy. Watch as tainted shackles and life transfers eats through their health as they invis. It’s not hard to land staff aoes if you can predict where they are going.

I guess I am saying that I haven’t experienced enough problems to agree with these statements. I came from playing a HgH/static engineer and Meditation/Bunker Guardian. I found that Necros have a much easier time dealing with tough situations like stealth or CC than my guardian or engineer.

Countering stealthing classes and surviving are two completely different things. I agree that we are very strong against stealthing classes now, especially mesmers, but that doesn’t increase our survival chances in the situations that tend to Gib necros… such as the large zerg training over you.

That is the situation most necros tend to fixate on and remember. That hammer train that ruined their day. A thief, a mesmer, pretty much anything else, might have had a way to get out when it came by, but a necro would need 30 in SR, a pre-placed worm, or a prayer to get out. Knowing this limitation, I don’t mind really, but that is what people get upset about. In THAT situation, if the incoming DPS is greater than your HP + your DS, you tend to be done for.

An instant on demand blink is something we don’t have (and don’t need), but what people want.

Exactly. If a zerg is about to stomp you, they will. Necros can’t ask for more mobility or defense otherwise they will be greatly OP.

I am not sure what your point is. Is it that Necros lack CC and defense, which they clearly don’t, to be valuable against hard CC classes? We have a butt load of weakness and chill debuffs from weapons on top of DS which is crazy strong in 1v1 settings. Fear is one of the strongest CCs in the game, especially when it is traited to last 50% longer. I honestly think you got smacked around by a really good warrior in a hot join and now freaked out that a good warrior can kick your butt. There are ways to counter them. Chills are your friend.

Point is that necros need stronger either passive defense or cooldowns n cast times as low for offensive skills as other professions in comparison to effects since devs dont want to give necros the mobility, invuls and vigor other professions have.
Fear is the WEAKEST hard cc since its also a condition, even daze is stronger.
And please dont repeat what i said (using hydro sigils and chillblains) and apply what happened to you to some imaginary version of me who bothers to play necros in pvp anymore (seriously its way more fun being on a guardian or thief and just annoying the crap out of the enemy while eating a sandwitch or watching youtube on the side).
Hell even if i was beaten by some good warrior (if i played pvp seriously enough to meet one), its still a fact that devs are afraid of the old Necro thus wont give us the tools we need to be efficient on our own.

I still don’t understand your reasoning. Thief are, in my opinion, one of the hardest classes to do well in sPvP. Guardians are balanced and easier to understand.

Necros are fine and very efficient. Want to come play a few hot-joins to see? I would be more than happy to show you rather than sit here and talk about all the scenarios with no proof. I think many others would agree with me that Necros are great as they are now.

Because Fear doesnt go trough stability n defiant (since it wasnt cc, but a control effect on a condition) like it used to, guess what we got longer cooldowns than other professions and you dont “make them pop stability” they use it, cc you (you SB they cc again) and you die, thats the thing, so unless you got a defensive mechanism in something that cannot be cced (e.g. weapon swap aoe chill) or you cannot be cced at all (invul) or can blink away (kinda possible but both require prep time that you more often than not dont have) the necro is free meat.
Also its ok to have a weakness (ours is actually low/weak mobility), its not ok to have a instant loss effect because the devs are too afraid to return parts of a strong old build that people didnt even bother to counter since they just patched it out post the 2 days it was used.

There’s not like condition removals and blinds…. if you die from a warrior CC, you are doing something wrong. The only way a warrior could 100-1 you is if you were running a berz build with 0 life force.

Personally i dont have a problem with cc warriors (or warriors in general) since i run hydro sigils and constantly keep DS2, S3 and try to keep WH5 up when the enemy aint chilled (pvp and pve), but vs any build with 2+ hard cc and a cc warrior you cannot even think of running, while every other profession has a easy get out of jail card in such a situation. Thats the problem.

Fear.

THEN FEAR SOME MORE! Muawhahahahahah

It’s nice that we can cast fear while in DS whenever we want. Even while knocked down.

Edit: I would like to add that my Necros has more burst and aoe burst than any class I have played yet. More than my HgH engineer, shatter mesmer, or meditation guardian. Pretty sure we are good on burst dmg. Heck even our condition builds do crazy burst dmg with dhuumfire.

Because its not like the enemy has stability (that lasts for 8s+ each) or immunity to skills… or blocks… or runes and traits that reduce the impact of your cc/condis. Also its not like there are Shatters, 100b, Nades, Bombs, Traps, Scepter/focus eles or any type of thief in terms of burst.

Why dagger over axe? Axe seems to do a lot dmg in a short amount of time. I also like the boon strip ability on axe #3. I assume staff is nice in whatever build you pick.

Is dagger #1 overall better dmg? I assume the immobilize is nice in sPvP.

I have to agree as well. I am struggling to continue playing this game after just returning from a half year break. The way they introduce stories doesn’t feel… right. They need to create better cut scenes and epic stories. The living stories should have a quest line leading up to the final Dynamic Event boss fight. For example in Tequatl Rising they could have introduced quests that explain the rise of Tequatl and how the locals have been dealing with it. We need more purpose to kill a dragon other than for being updated. blah

I think what GW2 does that is different from any other game is the living world. Instead of GW1 where you could raid a instance over and over again to finally achieve all that gear and items, GW2 reworks the idea of raiding. The concept of living world is to release new raids consecutively. Living world is just like that, living. Once a content has been played through it dies and we move on to a new new content. It’s like life. You must move on from old content.

Now, I am not saying I agree with this logic. I would like to see better scaling on the boss fight in the future so 10+ raid groups can tackle him. For now it’s fine but a month down the road it will be hectic to find a group big enough to take him on. I believe the loot situation is a huge problem and will deter people from bothering with the fight later down the road. Achievements? People are not going to care enough to help you beat a epic dragon just because you want your achievement completed. I think they need to release special skins for huge world boss fights. It would entice players to kill the boss for cool looking gear. The gear doesn’t have to the best, just different aesthetics to work with.

I do hope they scale it down in difficulty for smaller groups. Mobs should still hit hard but the number of mobs should decrease in comparison to the group fighting. They should cap the number of 15+ players. I don’t want to see a group of 5 take him down. But if you have a organized group of 10 or 15 should be able to kill him.

Because people are complaining to high heaven about maps being empty and servers being ghost towns so you want an instance that removes 100+ players from the game at a pop?

Bad example, overflows cause just as much fragmentation as an instance would but also add artificial difficulty because you can’t choose who you play with. Yesterday my server beat Tequatl and I was locked out in an overflow for over an hour before and several hours after it happened(3 failures). This is supposed to be open world content, I just think Anet is being too ambitious. There needs to be room in a map for at least 5x as many players as any single event is designed to require or else you run into bottlenecks like this is causing.

I actually like the event but perma-overflow with random strangers is sapping my desire to keep trying.

I also agree with this. That is a technical problem. Not really a boss fight mechanic issue.

Because instances have benefits and negative consequences, and how much the game is instanced will depend on the type of game they want to make. Instances allow for building challenging, structured content easier as you can balance them to particular party sizes. They also allow for telling a more personal tale. However, they push players out of the open world and diminish the first M from the MMO acronym. In games with instanced raids, where those are the most rewarded activity, the open world becomes a leveling service, major cities become fashion shows, and everyone hides away in dungeons having their own private experiences that aren’t shared except among those in their party. A more organic world doesn’t need instances, as our world doesn’t have them. If a dragon attacked our world, we would not just send 25 people to attack it because it put up a sign outside its lair saying, “Maximum capacity 25”. We would use every resource available to us to destroy the threat. Instances also don’t affect the world around them, as the activities are contained in the instance.

As a roleplayer, I prefer a more immersive, organic world. One where challenges can be confronted by anyone that happens to see them and wants to take them on and one where doing so affects the world. I’m not saying Guild Wars 2 gets these things right, but it seems to be what they’d like. I think the game shows promise, but has much to do to get there.

They’re dragons. I think they ought to be pretty close to impossible to beat.

I welcome the challenge, and I look forward to when they upgrade Shatterer and Claw of Jormag, too.

Also, why are people who like the challenge automatically ‘arenanet apologists’? That makes no sense. ‘I like a challenge, so I must be kissing backside’?

Then how is it that 1 charr, a norn and her wolf, 2 asuras, a human and a sylvari are able kill dragon champions by themselves?

Ever heard of Dark Souls? Probably the most punishing game on the planet. And I can almost gaurantee the people who play it have a love/hate relationship with it. One in which they HATE how hard it is but LOVE playing it and progressing/learning from their mistakes and suddenly what seemed stupid hard at first is now a push over.

Well another strange thing. I completed Dark Souls. And I liked it. The difference is, it was advertised as a challenge game. Buy it, play it, struggle, complete, be done with it. WoW is pretty much advertised as a raiding platform. Someone likes it? Go ahead. Diablo III is advertised as a loot grinder. Someone likes it? Go ahead. How was GW2 advertised? Why I bought it? Why I spent 2000$ on a new PC just to play it comfortably? Becouse of the way it was advertised and based on what I remember from GW1. Why Arena now decides to change it? Why adding ascended grind? Why keep adding content which “no of our testers was able to beat”? Is this still true to their manifest from 2012?

What? You are basing a game off a older version of a game that isn’t even remotely the same? Aka GW1 is NOTHING like GW2. You were even told this before release. And you are asking why Anet is adding difficult content? Seriously? This is a MMO. Go do something in the game that is easier. It is your choice. 100+? instances usually range from 5-40 players where did you get this figure from?

Because there are multiple raids occurring at the same time…. I am sure at 8 pm east on Wednesday night will easily have over 100+ players in a instance for a raid. However I have to disagree with the OP idea that a instance raid will remove even more of the population from the map. People are running instanced dungeons already… not to mention sPvP and WvW. So I doubt raids will destroy the map populations. lol They are already super low anyway.

Personally I like the open raid fights. It brings more life in the world of Tyria. I personally dislike that PvP and PvE are instance separately. I love games that have PvX. Questing and seeing a fortress being raided helps me feel engulfed by the game. But when I have to teleport to a separate instance to play WvW, kinda destroys that feeling. Seeing a raid as I quest or raiding while people are running by and want to join in makes the fight feel realistic.

It’s hard to explain…
