So of course the system will need a refuse duel requests option in the menu, but what of the players harassing you through chat? What is to stop you from simply blocking that person and you will hear nothing from them again?
That’s the thing though, right now I rarely have to deal with that because of the extra effort you have to put in to try and get someone to duel you. However if there was a readily available way to do it some will flame you for not wanting to bother with them. What’s worse is that even as things are now I’ve blocked one troll only for his friend(s) to continue the assault. I enjoy a bit of light-hearted trash talk but some people take it waaaay too personally. I would say this kind of behavior would happen much more frequently with open world dueling.
Isn’t that a weird thing to assume to happen? I mean, if that’s the only reason you don’t want duelling I think it’s a non-issue because I don’t think people thát annoying exist in large numbers. Maybe the odd bored 13 year old during school breaks.
But I can say with a fair amount of certainty that there’s a significant number of people like that out there because it ran rampant in many MMOs I’ve played i the past. Some games you couldn’t walk through a hub area without numerous players running around spamming duel requests and if you had it turned off they would spout off crap like “come on dule meh u ______” and the like, and they were always on the class that was the strongest 1v1. It made the whole game feel more toxic especially when you’re trying to do something else.
Now, maybe I’m just being overly cynical but my main reason for not wanting it is that I don’t want resources being put towards a duel mode when there’s more important things that can be focused on.
I had similar experience in WoW too. Usually, the duel spammers are fully geared and spec’d for 1 on 1 and they spam on a class they know they are a strong counter to, i.e. Frost Mage vs Warrior. And when I switch to play Shadow Priest that counters the mage, the guy backs down.
It doesn’t happen all the time, but it is annoying.
Anyway, didn’t Anet just introduce a new map for Dueling/deathmatch?
mesmer cant heal, nor will it ever have a real role as a healer. we lack a role in wvw and thats the problem.

guard can do everything but less efficiant than war because he has to actually spec well for a role
ele can aoe everything cc and heal
necro is the boon corruption and some aoe dmg

So many white knights here. WvW is about Asymmetric Warfare. How are you ever going to reach rank 230 all on 1v1 and not stomping people?
I solo roam in tier 1, mostly capping camps. When I see uplevels or people fighting, those are free kills and wxp. I basically take every advantage I can get. But I guess people play on their own time, they can do whatever they want. Still, pointless to wear that like some badge of honor in WvW. I actually think it’s more honorable and in the spirit of gaming to try and beat your enemy the best you can within the rules of the game.
However, I bet white knights in WvW also make great forum warriors. Can’t wait to brag about how honorable they are. Saved so many poor dolyaks from bad guys, etc.
I was about to suggest the same thing. Also, you should be able to guest on the servers within your league color. Blue able to help any blue server, green guest to green, etc.
If you played sports and traditional games, there is an unwritten rule where it’s ok to concede. The newer players might rage quit, but most experienced players understand that it’s part of the learning process. You learn from defeat and play again.
Why do WvW players on this forum have so much problem with losing? There is so many ways to battle in WvW. It’s impossible to win in every meta, 1v1, small group battle, blob, siege ppt. That is the beauty of open world pvp. You get a dynamic experience trying to reach your personal victory.
When people cry about bloodlust buffs, blobing, leagues server stacking, and Anet trying to milk cash from players. They are focusing on fighting the rules instead of playing the game. Game rules will never be perfect, unless you’re playing Tic Tac Toe and Rock Paper Scissors and these simple games have limited replay value.
My point is there are so many people on this forum threatening to quit over rule changes or lack of changes. I don’t think these people understand competition in open world pvp. However, while I’m sure the forum posters are only a small part of GW2 community, they are very vocal. They play the political meta game.
First of all, WvW is not the same as buying groceries.
If you’re looking for a fair distribution of players, WvW is the totally opposite of this.
WvW resets weekly. Within that single week, there is no stoppage and no waiting for sides to even up. You can mercilessly pummel the losing team for an entire week, until they’re totally broken in spirit and morale.
This is WvW, if you want to talk about buying groceries, it’s more similar in situation where people quit WvW on Tuesday and farm PvE until Friday reset.
But, that’s the great thing about GW2, you can give up WvW and try again next week. It’s like the cycle of life. The PvE community helps build the WvW community and vis versa. Anet didn’t make WvW to compete with PvE. It’s just another game mode that people can switch back and forth.
People need to give up on the balance team/server fallacy. Open world pvp is never balanced in any game. DAoC RvR was never balanced in the entire history of that franchise.
Another thing is that people are social and enjoy the safety of groups. You’ll see this with newer players and veterans that want to run with the blobs. Before GW2 even launched, there were already mega alliances stacked on JQ for WvW.
If you give special bonuses to lower pop servers, you’ll only encourage farmers to flock to those servers. They will not learn to pvp, they’ll follow the path of least resistance and will win trade for rewards.
Hearts and minds. Why try hard when you can forum warrior and beg Anet for wins.
My point is that lower tiers get their morale broken quickly by tier 1 and skip the week. The score was close for the first 4 hours.
WvW needs a individual and guild leaderboard. This will give the losing side something to play for.
How is this a fix? Cut and paste more EB? It’s a suggestion to have more game types that you enjoy, but this is not a fix and not an original idea.
More maps would be nice though.

So if that starts happening (or is perceived to be happening) how long do you think it’ll take for people shuffled to overflow servers to flood the forum with rageposts about “guests taking ‘their’ spots”?
Just like a few months ago when people were doing bosses with every one of their alts every day.
Why don’t you stop complaining about small servers and create a post for other people that want to down Tequatil to join your server?

I played DAoC for a long time and eventually collusion happens. Not all the time, but you’ll pull off some darkhorse victories and those wins will be the most memorable.
Think Braveheart and 300.

On paper this sounds like a good plan.
In reality the server with the higher population will still win because they will be able to cover all maps while the other 2 might be able to cover 2 at the most.
Cover 1 map and get bloodlust buff? Give up on 2 maps where the strongest team gets 0 kills. Bloodlust can potentially award a lot of pts. Someone need to math it out.
But yeah, if you’re out manned and out skilled, then there really is no way of winning. The game would be broken if it did happen.
I can only suggest that they give an award for being “most outmanned” at the end of the season. At least some kind of recognition for trying vs impossible odds.
The best change would be to give smaller group better mobility compared to massive zergs. As of right now group swiftness is too strong and stacks longer for zergs.
2nd, would be killing opponents to award pts for the server. Which is coming with the boodlust patch. However, I suggest that you always get points for defeating an opponent and maybe extra points on top of that from stomping/bloodlust. Possible to get 4 pts for stomping with 3x bloodlust.

So much negativity. Why don’t we give it a chance. People complain that there isn’t enough variety and yet you introduce something new and people freak out.
The irony is that people think they want freedom but what they are used to is rigid hand holding. The lower tier servers were protected from the tier 1 monster servers. This is what they want to cling on to. They want theme park pvp with the choice to exit the rides when they feel like they can’t keep up.
Please change Mesmer GS 3 to a blast finisher.
Also Staff 4 is boring, maybe add a knockback?
Torch is bad and clunky to use.
Need trait or Signet for 25% increase movement speed.
The least played profession needs a touch up. You don’t hear as much complains compared to Ele and Warrior, because there are not as many playing.
Some QoL would be nice, especially for WvW. Mesmer are already weak vs AE and Conditions and Vit doesn’t transfer to illusions. Almost no offensive options for AE. We also lack mobility and our movement support (Portal, Veil) are on very long cooldowns.
Also, current WvW meta favors zerg balls with Guardians/Warriors/Necros/Ele. Hopefully, that will change with the borderland updates in 2 weeks.
Experienced players will pwn with any profession. They already have awareness and good understanding of team synergy and mechanics.
There are players that never learned combo fields and never use the dodge button. A good friend of mine is mainly a Ranger and he’s full Zerker gear in WvW. His philosophy is to do as much DPS as possible and die, why bother dodging?
The tanking pet while leveling is a powerful crutch. Also, you do more damage with full stamina. lolz ranger dodge.
Strife quit GW2 before majority of the Ranger buffs. Brazil also from DnT guild played ranger with faster clear times, compared to Strife.
Thing is I have 80 warrior/guardian/ranger/mesmer/thief, and Ranger is very easy mode while leveling and most daily farming. It doesn’t require much skill or awareness and breeds some bad playing habits AND still be successful.

Last week, I purchased exotics for 50 silver. Actually, they are worth more now.
I hope they replace the Magic Find stat on item to movement speed/swiftness increase. Or maybe a boon duration increase.

When was the last time you’ve seen someone link a transmuted legendary? Only people without a legendary would advise transmuting them.
Besides, Twilight can’t be upgraded to Eternity after it’s been transmuted. I believe there will be future mystic forge formulas to upgrade legendaries. You need the original item to be recognized by the MF.

At one point, Jade Quarry was the DAoC server. I’m on SoR and there are some ex-daoc here. Unchained is going to be terrible, I would take off the homer goggles and stay away from that game.
Anyway RvR game where you can buy an island for cash is going to tank badly.

Yes, SoR for the past 3 weeks had great match ups. Extremely competitive and fun.

From SoR here, had some nice back and forth battles this week. Last night, I rallied 3 times defending the lord room after the keep lord died and we just manage to hold.

Also, people assume that the people using the portal never lags. In big zergs the graphics lag for everyone. You can portal in a spot and it can take a second for everyone to load. It’s pretty balanced to me. As long as you have awareness, you can get the jump on people using portals.

Group swiftness can also cause the game to lag/graphics culling. Should we disable that next? How about Shadow Refuge? AE graphics can sometimes cause Melee to lose sight of their target. Should we disable spell effects?
For the least played profession in the game, there sure is a lot of crying about Mesmers being OP. Maybe it’s because it’s the least played, there are less people defending them.
It also helps if OP didn’t create the biggest male Norn available.

Graphics culling is a problem Anet is knows and fixing. Portals doesn’t even have much to do with this. Any group with swiftness can cause culling. Last time I checked every profession has defensive cooldowns they can use, or even AE abilities will cause damage, invisible or not.
