The same build and tactics don’t always work. You need to adjust based on the opposition and what your team has (assuming everyone is following the respective meta build at the very least).
Don’t be ignorant or toxic when things don’t work out either. Do the best you can with what you got and do what you can to make it work.
Been working for me just fine for the past 3-4 seasons. Power or Condi necro, ~50/50 W/L. Been happy with it.
Gotta say I tried MettaBattle’s builds, nothing, not even a dent in the enemy.
Stopped being kittened off since season 2.
But this loss streak…never experience such a thing in GW2 over the past 5-ish years.
Hey guys.
Up till Tuesday this week I was doing perfectly in PvP 1 loss to every 5-6 wins for several days. The suddenly starting Tuesday I won 2 matches out of ~15 (I stop playing after 5 a loss streak each day), I have been using the same build same tactics…And most of the time its just a one sided fight.
WHAT THE F. HAPPENED?
PS: Was a few point from plat.
As some one who has a similar post about 4 years ago I agree.
I’m in platinum this season, with a fairly good w/l ratio. I’m a player who tends to just active all of their skills against the enemy and hope for the best, and then come out on top, I can confirm that a good build wins over an inferior one most of the time.
Also you can’t use skill, skill assumes you time you attack and skill use, taking in consideration the enemies skills in CDs. Theres just too much kitten proc-ing from traits, weapons swaps, dodge effects, runes skill, weapon skill, pet skills time 5 enemies. This is why GW2 could not make the PvP competitive scene cause noone could follow what kitten thing some one did.
Its stupid and the system needs a massive redux. But knowing Anet, years from now, GW2 will go down with the kittenty PvP system we have now.
We had deathmatch with Countryard. ANet was forced by players to remove that game mode because no one wanted to play it.
The problem with that was that Anet kitten the bed.
1. It was part of the normal rotation of maps for sPvP. MASSIVE MISTAKE.
2. It didn’t have its own Join Queue button.
3. 5 players was too much, should have been a lower number.
IMO it should have been 4v4 and a “best 2 out 3” system. Kind if like RA in GW1.
All I want is RA in GW2.
I learned to stop after the 3 loss in a row. Just go do something else in-game or out of game, continue the next day. Helps to keep your sanity, a lot.
“It’s just a game” – People who don’t get kittened if they lose even if they gave it their all.
“It’s just for fun” – This is very subjective, a hard-core PvP player who wants to climb the ranks, plays for their own fun.
“I just want skins” – Blame the Devs.
“I just want reward chests” – Blame the Devs.
“I just wanna make gold” – Blame the Devs.
If you remove the rewards from ranked you will be waiting for 5+ minutes for matches every time, cause the majority of players will be playing un-ranked for rewards and fun.
I don’t mean this as an insult but if your all about unrewarding PvP and climbing the ranks, go play something else, there are TONs of other PvP only games that are significantly better then this GW’s sPvP (s stands for “kitten”).
That or change you attitude and don;t get kittened if you lose no matter what. Cause we all know that Anet wont ever improve upon sPvP (the s still stands for “kitten”).
Its annoying I agree, but its an universal term at this point. Everyone understands what others are trying to say with it.
Aoe and Spam, just about no skill required anymore, just go to MetaBattle get the top build and start spamming.
Would you want to see any changes to Courtyard before it came back? A new mechanic, perhaps?
Yes, make it a best 2 out of 3 type of match. Once a team dies the game resets, repeat until one of the teams wins 2 matches. When the game is won the winning team gets the option to stay and go onto the next game. (Sounds familiar?).
What I’m saying is I want RA and TA to be introduced to GW2, in the same way it existed in GW1. (Maybe allow people to join 1v1s, 2v2s, up to 5v5s.).
RA and TA plz, Conquest is holding back GW2’s PvP scene.
3-4 unranked sPvP matches. 2-3 wins maybe.
The balance is broken from the ground up. The skills, traits, boons and conditions need a major rework on the level of essentially a new game.
I wouldn’t mind just having and indicator which squad is in which district in the LFG. Then if Dist Y is full then we can start a group in Dist X astleast.
Yeah, why there’s not any other arena type than Conquest, right?
Wait a minute… I feel something… there’s a word I feel talking me something from the otherside… something forgotten…
COUNTRYARD!!!!!!!
STRONGHOLD!!!!
How the hell I forgot it?
Countryard and Stronghold (expecially Countryard) gave to all the players the chance to play something Different to the actual Conquest arenas.
But when Countryard came up everyone played it and everyone hated it. Why? Why everyone want to play the conquest meta build and no one want to play deathmatch why to play that they have to change they’re builds and playstyle, why every balance had been made based on Conquest arenas and a lot of classes are highly Op in countryard, classes and builds that are useless in Conquest. That make your team a Op or a really Bad team based on if you find in the roulette a conquest map or the so hated countryard.
Same thing for Stronghold, but there ANet gave us the chance to play it with all the other conquest maps, don’t play it or also play only it.
Conquest make the meta what it is, but if you change the playstyle there will be only another meta, not any more balance that what we actually have.
All the try from the devs to change the community playstyle had failed why everyone want to play conquest maps 8expecially the oldest maps).
We have other options for sPvP but the community ignore or hate them.
The problem with Game modes other then Conquest is that it was the only mode for a long time, so the game was balanced around it.
Additional problems that make other PvP modes nonviable:
- The utter lack of build saving and loading. So if courtyard pop-up, ppl need to play their Conquest build or start messing with their builds.
- Courtyards problem is the constant spawning. It should be a best 2 out of 3, just like RA and TA in GW1.
- The lack of maps for other PvP modes.
- The other PvP modes are not integrated into the PvP system and UI.
Simply put, the other PvP modes are essentially mods for PvP. Their not integrated, lacking in tons of features, of course ppl didn’t like them, they are poorly made with very little thought put into them.
EDIT: PS, Stronghold should be have fixed classes and skills. Kind of like Snowball Fight, Costume Arena (I know it existed in GW1, not sure about 2). Essentialy playing heroes, just like in MOBAs, pick a hero and play. Then the ppl can focus on just playing the map and the Devs can balance it much more easily.

Yea, I agree.
But we have been asking for 1v1, 3v3, RA and TA, since launch. But we got conquest and stronghold instead.
I really don’t know what their thinking,
The classes are designed in a near vacuum, and the game modes PvE, PvP, PvW (player v raid) and WvWvW, have very little synergy with some of the classes.
Every game mode has its own style and requirement, and since there is no thought put into the synergy between the classes and the modes you get a “survival of the fittest” approach to team composition. The classes with the most useful features will be picked for that type of game mode.
He’s complaining about the amount of effects that proc without the player doing anything, like the endure pain trait.
I think the reason they exist is because it makes beginners able to compete instead of just insta-exploding.
so wheres the necro endure pain trait? ok what about mesmers? thief’s?
Pff, mesmer needs no kittenty Endure Pain, they have much better stuff like evades and blocks times 2.
Traps should have an arming time of 3-5 seconds after laying them down. Would fix a lot.
Dude, 2 of the traps dont even have cast time. A 1/2 Second cast time would be enough.
I USED … not played against … USED Guardian in pvp with a trap medi Longbow build and I felt like a GOD (sadly).. there was probably no reason for anyone to even come near me since once the traps hit them they either melted, or if they could get away, I would simply shoot them once for the kill and reset my traps for the next person. Something that happen in about 7 out of 10 matches is that the other team would simply give up on the point and not even bother since the build (which I have seen others using) is insanely cheese. Even if my health was dropped down to half or a bit lower .. I would somehow heal to 100% in the blink of an eye, meaning that my opponent who put in the effort and got me down low, while getting low himself will not recover his HP as quickly as I will and will most likely lose the fight. Not to mention one match where I tried a Burn Dragonhunter Build, same thing happened.. no one botered going to the point after a while and with only 7 stacks of burn, if my opponent was unable to cleanse, it would only take 4 to 5 ticks to down them. There is no way this is Balanced in the slightest.
I’m making this Topic because I like a challenge and I like a fight, not having the upper hand simply because my class is, without a doubt, stronger and simply makes no sense to fight.
sure, you had great fun in hotjoin right ?
try playing dh in season 4 till legendary and then come back and tell us how you did.
Who cares about the Legendary players? You guys are the 1%-ers. The game should be balanced for the majority of the players. (Due to this logic we dont have Solo Q only, cause too few players join as groups. I could prolly find the official statement if needed).
So I DC-ed in a Ranked Match, I reconnected and we won easily. I got dishonored and lost a PiP. But I got the Daily Win for the mesmer.
So WTF? Is this working as intended or is this a bug? Why did I even get dishonored if I came back and won?
The delay is there so players who accept the party don’t leave the match early and and get back to the lobby before the party is actually created. Otherwise they’d be able to queue and then get kicked out, and it’s just all sorts of weird user experiences.
However if someone doesn’t intend on joining the party anyways, there is no harm in letting them leave early other than maybe slightly less usage of the feature.
Just make it so that is some one opts to not join the party, by pressing “No”, then allow them to leave.
Yes.
“What was that phrase? Six or nothing?”
Out right lies if you ask me.
The guardian has no viability this season.
Build is as a tank, get killed by everything 1v1.
Build dmg? deal no dmg.
Support your team? Well thats a joke.
This season everything is atleast 50% better then the guardian.
When you are logged into your guardian, dont play in sPvP.
You PvP devs, I need to win about 25 matches with the guardian to finish 2 of my achievements, bot require me to win matches with the guardian.
My problem is every build I tried so far had failed me, yea I know “the one who failed is you”.
Calm your kittens men, I mostly played guardian in sPvP since launch and I think I’m a competent PvP person with a 1.25 W/L ratio, and I got up to Ruby in the past 2 seasons.
But for the love of GW2 I cant seam to make a or find a viable build for this season.
Built a tank, melted in mere seconds vs just about everything, not to mention the zero dmg output.
Built a full just zerker no defense or anything trapper, it was a waste of time, insta death and no real impact in fights.
Hybrids did kind of OK jobs but they pale in comparison to anything half descent on other professions.
Hammer is slow, and interruptible.
Bow has no damage.
Mace…lol, scepter lol, shield heh. .. eh w/e.
I would love to see what build the devs would use for the guardian in sPvP. Cause I sure as hell can’t figure it out.
Ps: Might seem like a rant, but this is a plea for help.
There is no problem with nomads. The problem is that the one sPvP mode (I dont count stronghold as part of the modes) that relies on capturing and holding points. The devs don’t want players just sitting on points., thus no tanky stuff in sPvP.
They should reduce the amount to active skills players have at hand, reducing all the usable skill at one time to 8-10,
- Increase every cool-down by a significant amount.
- Reduce the type of conditions and boons to 6/6.
- Make every condition and boon stack once per character.
- Make some of the conditions and boons, profession only (like guards are the only ones with the Guard boon, or Eles the only ones with chill. This would avoid professions having all the boons and condis (engi and mes).
- Lower the mount of AoE skills.
- Introduce RA/TA, that format would be great to watch, especially with interesting maps. The shorter format would be great to watch.
- essentially turn the PvP into a GW1 kind of PvP that is fun to watch and to understand what is happening.
i love steaks… mhhh…
Me too, me too.
Hey guys.
So yea, my interned went out for a minute or two, during a ranked match, I reconnect and then my team won the match.
That is all fine and dandy, but I got dishonored and no PIP (was on a win streak so 2) in the end.
Not sure if this is intended or that I should report it as a bug?
(edited by Ragmon.6350)
Wait so we still lose PIPs if someone DCs indefinitely? Well that’s just not fair.
Dear Anet. I would like to report a bug.
Today in ranked a player DC-ed several times during the match, once we lost we still lost a PIP. As far as I know players don’t lose PIPs when someone DCs.
End report.
I would love to see it happen, but at this point its never gonna happen.
Now that I think about it the PvP system even has a win streak mechanic too now.
For the love of Balthazar could we get Random Arena and Team Arena already? Please?!
I’m have been sick and tired of the kittenty “hold-the-point” BS
Every part of RA and TA is in the game, Anet just need to make it happen.
- Maps – check.
- Match maker – check
- The actual game mode in game – check
- Costumers who assumed that Guild Wars 2 will have the great PvP modes from the game named Guild Wars – check
So why not give the GW players, IMO, one of the best online PvP experiences?
Sigh… never gonna happen…
I would LOVE to see someone else suggest a better way than enrage timers to deal with cheesing hard content with ultratank/healing builds instead of arguing how bad it is. It’s not THAT bad … lots of games have them and they work. It might not be the best but then, does it need to be?
How is using a tank group cheesing? We have groups 5-6 manning, only [insert profession] groups. Why would a slower, damage per second, tank group be cheesing?
I for one dislike the idea of the 1 heal, 1 tank, 8 dd, meta that we have now….hmmm reminds me of the holy-trinity. I would like to see stuff like 3 healers, 5 tanks, 2 dds, new types of group compositions.
Re-mapping you keybindings to fit your play-style is always a good option.
That and getting a mouse with more then 3 buttons.
We will never have TDM in GW2…and thats just sad.
RA and TA was the most fun I ever had in an online PvP game (Not counting Planetside 2).
I’m not playing GW2 so I’m not bored.
When I say MMO I mean MMORPG.
For me DDO wins the “Best MMO” title.
GW1 is second and GW2 third.
Age of Conan was great but the F2P model is crap.
GW2 is GREAT, BUT there are many obvious mistakes that the devs are making from the start that are holding GW2 back.
Don’t forget the Revenant elite skill (Demon Stance – Embrace the Darkness), turn it on and auto spam Torment in an AoE. I wish they lowered the amount of AoE skills most professions have.
Sinister for short fights. If your going for only 1 type of condition, like burning on the warrior then just get runes for the duration (Balthazar) and your better of with it then Vipers.
Vipers for prolonged fights and if your using lots of different condition damage types, like raid bosses.
We can teleport, we don’t need mounts.
1 -> GW2 doesn’t have a trinity, GW2 don’t need a tank, all players/classes TANK and HEAL and DPS at the same time, they will not increase boss damage because GW2 DONT WANT a hard trinity, GW2 has a soft trinity though.
2 ->Vale Guardian Blue circles make a super high volume noise, sometimes i tank without looking for the screen dodging only because of the noise.
3 -> Gorseval aggro is not based only on toughness, his aggro is based on toughness when everybody are at the same distance, if someone is farther he get the aggro instantly.
3 -> Sabetha don’t requires a tank, sabetha will never require a tank, different bosses have different mechanics that will have different optimal compositions, strategys, classes and gear.
4 -> If you only play tank, its probably better to look for another game, there is no real tank on GW2 and never will be.
1 – There is no need for a trinity cause Anet did not create content or mechanics for it. But there are skills and gear for the trinity archetypes.
I wonder what would happen if Anet implemented content that required moderate or heavy defensive builds.
2 – I don’t know about the noise, but I know that VG turns a lot before dropping the blue AOEs.
3 – The problem OP is stating that Gors has a problem with turning and moving due to its large hit box and reach. Gors moves around the tank at the same speed as normal sized character would, Gorse being huge, he moves insanely fast.
4 – Sadly I have to agree, there is no need for Full Tanks in GW2. Its all about the mindless damage spam.
I would agree with the No Trinity plan, but then the AI must be smart, not the “GW2 brain-dead AI” kind. We would need content that rewards movement, coordination, using skills at the right time, content that requires gear other then Berserker or Sinister (or their 4 stat equivalents, viper and marauder).
In closing, I agree with OP, play-styles other than “damage dealer” (or “DPS”, cause reasons) are not supported by the content, even to there are skills and gear for them.
All of the professions need an overhaul. The conditions and boons need a redux, that and some boons and conditions need to be profession specific (max 3 profs should have one try of cond and boon).
ramble ramble, the whole system needs a major rework to function properly in the future.
Well you have Toughness, Vitality and Healing Power. Its called Nomads (you prolly know this).
OS: Win 7: Ultimate SP1 (64-bit)
Client: 64-bit
Just had a nice win streak (8) and several smaller streaks with mah DH today, mostly at the top of the chart. I’m in division 2 if your asking, Before today I just used a bunker build.
So, beginners luck, or poor match making, or just playing against lower tier players, but I think the DH is doing fine. I think its OP but thats just IMO.
I think it has something to do with DC-ing or leaving the match early when the match has ended.
“Corpening says ‘Unlike most other online games, there is no grind for gear and stats… When you log into PvP you have max stats and everything you need to be competitive right away.’ "
AHAHAHAHAAAAAA…. So that is why I just spent 5 gold on a Superior Rune of Durability, cause there is no grind for gear….go home Corpening your drunk.
