Leveling through Wayfarer Hills I am blown away by the detail, my toon leaves footprints in the snow that slowly fill as the snow falls.

My charr’s footprints face every direction but forwards, normally completely backwards. x.x I think it has to do with the run animation for charr, but it was rather funny when I noticed it.

Same feelings here. The only problem with Ascended gear is the bottleneck of instanced content required to get it. Either way, it’s not something that breaks the game, especially right now.

It’s 2 inventory slots with something like a 3% stat increase. By the time the whole set is out they’ll have done something one way or another to calm down the people crying about it being the end of the world.

Unfortunately, well thought out posts like this are the rarity. Every thread that I have seen where someone is trying to express a distaste for the new content devolves into pure hatred. You’re comment about waiting to see where things go from here is where the difficulty is. You’re speaking to the generation that was raised on instant gratification. If they don’t get their way, and now, tantrums will be thrown.

I have been dropping by the forums once or twice a day, and I try to make most of my posts positive. It gets hard when people can’t have a conversation about something and instead just end up throwing insults around with no constructive content whatsoever.

They should just make champions and veterans mobs in the open world drop the tokens from the new fractal dungeon. That alone will certainly make people head for champion when someone does a shoutout over map chat.

I just made a post on the suggestion forum about possibly adding some dynamic events with that currency as a reward for the same reason. While I despise all of the whining people are doing about FotM on the forums, I can’t say that having instanced content be a bottleneck to the best gear is a good thing. They should be encouraging people to stay in the open world, not the other way around.

And you can get the extra influence by using the Guild +20% influence in dungeons. Only cost 200 influence to make and if it’s a full guild run you’ll more than make that up.

It actually costs 16,700 Influence, not just 200. You need to purchase Rank 1, Rank 2, Rank 3, and Rank 4 Politics to be able to purchase the 20% Dungeon Influence buff.

It’s a long term investment. The point is that it pays for itself in the long run.

Also I don’t really see the need for giving more influence, as the guild already earns more for guild runs since more guild people are running and earning influence.

It seems kind of backwards to me to claim that this is a bad thing. Some others have pointed out that something needed to be done to bring prices down. For the players that did get precursors, and maybe even got one that they will use, I’m sure they are very happy with it. I am happy for them. Someone else having better fortune than yourself does not make your fortune any worse.

Fractals currency and the open-world

in Suggestions

Rakhar.4615

Is there any way we can get a few events in the rotation on the maps that give at least a tiny bit of the FotM currency? It seems very counter intuitive to herd the majority of your players into instanced content and leave the wonderful open world you’ve created near empty, especially after going through all the trouble of setting up the level scaling system that you have. Until now players could still earn karma and be going towards their end goal. I had viewed the dungeon gear as optional.

With FotM being the only way currently to get the new ascended gear you’ve essentially told level 80 players that it’s the only place to go if they want to advance. This takes a large number of people out of the world and the hole left behind is very noticeable.

Requiring jump puzzles to finish a zone

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rakhar.4615

Uh… Am I the only one that thinks map completion IS “optional fluff”. You aren’t denied access to the next area until you hit 100%.

Personally I’m getting rather good at them, except in cases where lots of floaty objects bump my camera in and out a lot. They REALLY need to find a way to deal with that. There are also a couple that are just not friendly to larger characters at all, as you brush walls when jumping which halts your jump and makes you fall early.

If I could request anything it would be a button to TOGGLE my double-tap evade. I have to open the options and turn it off every time I hit a jump puzzle, and I’m in a world of hurt if I forget to turn it back on.

I’m playing more than ever. I have plenty to keep me busy, and if I don’t feel like grinding for anything in particular I wander around the maps and help people complete events.

I’ve yet to get a nasty letter from ANet demanding that I run Fractals all day instead of doing whatever I like. I also am not dying every 5 minutes because I don’t have legendary gear, and rather look forward to the long term goal.

Oddly enough, most of the people I run into in the game are having a blast in spite of an entire forum full of negative comments. How odd.

War or Ranger for PvE Farming?

He said the forums say that Ranger is the worst class, which is correct. Scouring the forums, almost every mention you see of class power puts Ranger at the bottom of the list.

I’m more of a melee player, but I didn’t like Fighter much for some reason. Honestly I would say go with whichever one you enjoy playing the most. Not because I want to come off all hearts and rainbows, but because you’re going to be spending a LOT of time playing that character. If you like them both about the same, then go with whichever one you feel the most comfortable taking harder mobs with.

As the above poster said, running a different 1-15 zone will give you a good boost. The game will automatically adjust your level down and give you XP accordingly. Personally, I’m going for 100% world completion and that has guaranteed that I’m almost always above the level of my current zone.

I reluctantly agree. I have spent a bit in the cash shop, but the return wasn’t that great. I maxed out my bag slots and expanded my bank, got a few dye kits to get started, and tried a few of the event chests out just to say I tried.

I was really hoping for more town clothes, and was even more disappointed when I heard they don’t drop anywhere…the piddly selection in the cash shop is it.

Mind you, I am enjoying the game and plan to continue playing for a long time. However, that doesn’t mean I have any reason to dump more into the game for Gems.

Favourite class and why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rakhar.4615

Rakhar.4615

Guardian. I normally play a tank class, so it was a natural pick. I’ve tried out almost every class to varying degrees and I never get hooked on any of the others.

Fighter just doesn’t feel the same, and I couldn’t tell you why. I don’t care for all the stance dancing on Eles. I played Necro in GW1 too long to like the one here. ( I was pure blood magic. Leech ALL the mobs! ). I’m not a fan of pet classes so Ranger was out. I tried Thief and wasn’t impressed (PvE, I don’t PvP). Engi was alright but stationary turrets are a little annoying to me. I also don’t like trying to ground target all the grenade abilities over and over while staying mobile…but not TOO mobile, cause of the turrets…

Oh, yeah… I still have yet to get into a Mesmer. I’m hoping I like them, cause only having one character I play is burning me out a bit.

some randomness I understand and enjoy. Other randomness, where it is my only choice (such as getting decent items out of event chests from the cash shop) sucks.

As I said in my first post, you can just buy said items off the trading post instead of playing your odds at the chests. Also, none of the super rare items from any of the chests that I know if is going to make your character more powerful. It’s all just added fluff.

There is literally no reason to complain about this outside of “Every aspect of the game should be how I want it.” It’s optional. You can even get the items without participating.

So the bug is the reverse then. When you soul bind items you cannot possibly use, it doesn’t say it is soul bound.

No, it has nothing to do with your ability to use the item. It’s when you put an upgrade in any item that is not already soulbound to you. I does make the item soulbound, just like it tells you it’s going to. It just doesn’t change the message on the item tooltip.

I realize this. I was just hinting at my lack of understanding how you can even soul bind items you can’t use. What activity is this designed to prevent? I also don’t understand how I was able to send him the boots which I had just put a rune in as well.

It’s probably there to make sure you aren’t somehow giving him upgrades that you have already used yourself, via transmute or something. Maybe there are soulbound on pickup upgrades, I don’t know. Maybe they just don’t want you sticking upgrades in your items and then selling them on the trading post for more money.

Whatever the reason, items bind when you upgrade and there is a warning about it that you didn’t bother to read. Be glad it wasn’t an exotic or something and pay attention next time you’re playing around with gear.

I know in Rift, you’d submit a ticket and they’d fix your mistake, even when it’s blatant player-error like this. They view it as customer-care, with a real service attitude about support.

NCSoft, in my experience playing Lineage 2, doesn’t view support tickets as a customer-care thing, more like a police thing. So if you got scammed or lost items or whatever, all you can do is file a report.

Just like in real life, you’re better off never talking to a cop.

Well that post seemed helpful and on-topic. It’s a good thing the game has players like you around to support it, otherwise people might get negative impressions.

The entire game is based around random number generation. Every single time you kill a mob you’re “gambling” for loot.

I’m assuming that you’re talking about the Black Lion Chests and rare items they contain, to which I have to reply… If you don’t want to “gamble” then just buy everything from the trading post. No one is forcing, or even encouraging you to gamble.

For those unaware, yes, you get a popup when you go to upgrade an item that says the item will become soulbound to you. The bug is that the item does not say soulbound after you do this, and in fact even still asks you if you want to make it soulbound AGAIN when you try to equip it. It is, however, soulbound after you stick in the upgrade.

You did click through a warning about them becoming soulbound. You just didn’t think they really would become soulbound because of that little display bug.

The way the current fotm scaling is set up makes gates the community into hardcore and “casual”. There are threads and threads containing links of interviews with arenanet devs saying there will be no grind, its all fun, no treadmill, all relevant, all accessible.

It’s not like it’s mandatory here. The only reason to grind it is so that you can get to higher levels and…well, if you want to get to higher levels just to do it then why would you complain about doing it? If you don’t want to get to the higher levels, then why would you try to in the first place?

Again, it’s something to keep the PvE players busy. It’s not mandatory. It’s not game-breaking. The world is not coming to an end (No, not even on Dec 21st).

It would be fine if there was low demand. However, I think there is zero demand.

There are 6.9 million on the trading post. Divide that by how many are desired…yeah, I’m pretty sure the result is closer to zero than to one. You took a risk holding onto an abundant holiday resource. Just shove em in the back of your bank until next summer when demand is creeping back up. Or sell them. Hell, even at the highest they were never worth a ton.

Well the best use I had for them was spitting out chests, and that recipe only needed ONE I believe, and is only active during the event. That and the ridiculous abundance of them (millions dropped…millions) means that less than a month later, of course there’s low demand. A bit late to start calling for better crafting options for them.

If FotM was set to the highest completed person in the group, then it would completely defeat the purpose of the entire thing. The whole POINT of it is that you have to work your way up. It is a pure progression thing for PvE players with nothing better to do, or that just want something “hardcore” to work on with the higher levels.

There is no reason for the amount of negativity thrown at FotM here. What you people complaining want is a completely different type of dungeon. Don’t try to take away something that plenty of people are enjoying just because it doesn’t suit your taste. Not every single thing in the game is catered to every single player.

I swear, every time I see posts like the ones here bashing FotM it boils down to “I can’t have my way so I’m gonna throw a tantrum.” You could use the same “Well I can’t participate how I want so this needs to change” attitude and claim that all content should be solo-able. If you don’t want to take the MASSIVE EFFORT to guild up for this like other people have mentioned, then it looks like you’re stuck spamming LFG for PUGS and it’s your own fault.

This is new content. How can it be hard to get a group for the new hotness dungeon only after 2 or 3 days?

Everyone that cares to is still advancing as fast as they can. Why would they hold themselves back for someone they don’t even know? It actually DOES make sense that it’s harder to find the low levels right now.

Give it a while for people to back off from their mad rush to higher levels and I’m sure there will be some willing to take a “breather” and do a lower run here and there. It’s silly to assume that the whole idea is a disaster just because you can’t find a PUG at your leisure.

I don’t believe I read in the OP anywhere asking about any classes besides Ele and Necro. He obviously knows he want’s to play one of these two classes, probably because he enjoys being a caster class. There are way to many counterproductive posts in this thread.

To the OP, I would go with Necro based on personal preference. The “stance dance” mentioned for Ele is a real turn off for me. That alone null and voids any other arguments between the two of them for me.

PvP Dailies/Monthlies: Really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rakhar.4615

Rakhar.4615

Some people are actually scared of PVP, I’ve met people like that.

I try to explain that it’s really not a big deal at all, but unless they have a good reason they won’t put themselves at risk of being killed etc by other players.

If they go in to get the achievement points from the daily and realise that PVP is just another fun side of the game, that’s not a bad thing.

They might even become good at PVP and make that one of their main things.

It’s not a matter of being “scared”, it’s just that PvP and competitive gameplay are not fun for a lot of people. I’m one of those people. I don’t enjoy FPS PvP, but I play tons of single player and coop FPS games. Same for MMOs. It’s not enjoyable to me to either kill or be killed by other players. I have no desire to tout myself as better than other people in a video game, or participate in any ranking systems.

I do enjoy playing cooperatively with other people. I also enjoy just wandering around the game world without any specific goal in mind, participating in events when I find them.

I don’t see any problem with having PvP daily achievements. I know there are people who don’t enjoy PvE at all. GW1 even had “PvP characters” that were just ready to go. To have daily achievements and rewards for PvE players and not PvP players seems rather silly.

I suppose they could make the daily achievements mutually exclusive, but I think it’s silly to worry about daily achievement points. In another year or two everyone’ll have 10k+ points anyway, and all of the new people will feel “behind” even though the points aren’t used for anything.

What will kill GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rakhar.4615

Rakhar.4615

What will kill any game… People going into a game with the attitude that if everything doesn’t go their way they will just leave. The MMO community on a whole seems to always be on the lookout for the “perfect game”, some holy grail that they will play for 10 years without buying another game. It doesn’t exist, and the constant game hopping a lot of people do only fuels more mediocre games being put on the market to soak them up for a few months.

Personally I think that there are VERY few MMO games that are not completely fun to play with friends. I can log into any major MMO on the market with a friend and have fun. The people make the game fun. I can meet new people, enjoy the game experience, and then when you look at the forums it’s all posts about how the world is going to end because some aspect of the game is horrible or some people didn’t agree with some change.

I don’t see anything in GW2 that would make me quit in outrage or ruin my fun, nor do I see ANet doing anything to hasten that.

I’m curious how they would do player housing. There aren’t a whole lot of games where I like it to be honest. EQ2 was really the only one, and even then I mostly just liked having extra storage. There are a lot of RPers playing though, (yes, I play on Tarnished Coast) so I can see it being very good to give them a place to meet and not be bothered.

They said one day they would work on it. Prolly after they have the treadmill well established and spinning.

It’s no more overpowering than using one of the many run speed buffs in the game and then jumping. Same effect really. I’m sure they didn’t intend for that to be a specific “move” for you to use, but there’s nothing wrong with it so I don’t see why it would be changed later.

Jump+dodge: intended mechanic or weirdness?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Rakhar.4615

The game mechanic responsible is mostly likely movement speed affecting jumping distance, which is an intended mechanic. It works both ways. If you are in combat you are moving slower than if you are out of combat, and can’t jump as far. I THINK dodge moves you at your out of combat movement speed, even during combat. That’s most likely the reason for what you are seeing, and wouldn’t give you an edge in any way.
