If you want to PvP 1 vs 1, then Guardian is a no go. Here are the reasons :
- He cannot run away from fights
- But other professions can run away from him when they are about to die
- Guardian is slow as a turtle
- Even a Necro can survive longer with F1 and pet leeching
- A Warrior can heal as much as a Guardian
- A Warrior is much more mobile
- Warrior feels similar to Guardian except Warriors are better at everything
- A Guardian has lower health than Warrior, this causes Warriors to make less compromises for Berserker builds while a Berserker Guardian will die much faster
- Guardian cooldowns are long, because his utility skills are group based, this is why most of his skills have cooldown bigger than 40 seconds
- Guardian is bad for roaming in WvW
My advice, stick with the necro.
This guy knows what hes talking about.
Stay out of Guardian.
Those characters are not real lowbies…they just are not geared as its expensive to gear all 8 toons.
I have spent all my gold buying mats to level all the crafting professions to 400.
In fact most of these toons are 60s
Thief cooldowns should be doubled and initiative removed.
No utility skill should have CD longer than 60 secs.
The majority of guardian utility is longer than 40.
Sometimes you die and only used a skill once…while other professions can spamfest all their stuff.
And note that guard does not have the huge HP warrior gets, nor the mobility, nor the duration block instead of hit block or the low cooldowns.

Oh yea…kite a warrior the most mobile profession in the game….
Its more likely when the warrior is dying he is going to kite you.

It actually doesn’t apply a boon, but it heals you and allies, blocks projectiles and prevents foes from entering.
80 second cooldown for 10 second duration boon = balance?
Thats Guardian Hallowed Ground…It pulses 2 seconds of stability 10 times. That means if you stand in it for the full duration, you’ll have stability for a total of 20 seconds. The same counts for your allies who stand in it.
I wrote boon because the title has a character limit.
I know its not a boon.
And even 20 sec every 120 sec is bullcrap….should be 60 seconds

Thief
-Remove initiative but keep steal
-Put 20 second cooldown on steal
-Increase cooldown on thief sword movement skills from 3 to 6 seconds
-Increase cooldown on dagger stealth to 20 seconds
Guardian
-Decrease cooldown of Leap of Faith from 15 to 12 (without trait)
-Decrease cooldown of GS4 to 15 seconds
-Decrease cooldown of GS5 to 20 seconds
-Judge intervention to 30 sec base cooldown
-Contemplation of Purity to 40 sec base cooldown
-All spirit weapons to 40 sec base cooldown
-Save yourselves and Retreat to 40 sec base cooldown
-Hallowed Ground to 30 sec cooldown
-Sanctuary to 60 sec cooldown
-Bane signet to 30 sec cooldown
-Increase projectile speed on staff, scepter and trident
Ranger
-Increase damage of all axe skills by 20%
-Put 1/4 second of evade on the first and second hit of GS autoattack
-Improve pets health by 50%
Elementalist
-D/D Earth 5, give stability and protection when channeling earth 5
-D/D Air, reduce cooldown on Air 4 and 5
-D/D Water, reduce cooldown on water 5
Necro
-Increase radius area of wells by 200
-Staff, increase projectile speed of autoattack

he is OK as is, but make less useful traits usable

The most funny thing about those vídeos is that they are cherry picked moments of much higher number of deaths.
Not to mention the vídeo itself shows how easily other professions can get away from the Guardian and resume the fight after they have healed back to full.

necro vampire pet build is OP.
Guardian is extremely subpar in comparison to everyone else, except ranger.
Its mobility is bad, cooldowns are long, projectiles are slow, low health pool…
Builds? what are those?
Most kiteable class, a necro can escape better with F1….
Guardian is a one trick pony that everyone can predict…..the lack of builds is the cause of it.
Oh and most classes dont need a group to be viable….all other classes have a good chance in 1v1, ofc except for ranger and guardian.
WvW roaming? Forget about it, you will be stomped, coz you cant escape from fights like other classes….so youre food.
btw I have 8 character slots, I play all classes.

I believe the Ranger changes are not enough.
They made Longbow OP, but all the rest still sucks about the ranger.

– You kill him because he cannot escape
– You dont kill him but you escape
Its probably the only class that everyone else can kite, even on a GS/scepter/signet build that has 2 immobilization, 1 knockdown, 1 leap.
If its a signet build it wont heal and you can still kite.
If its a meditation he can heal but you can kite him to recover your health – or just permastealth if you are thief/mesmer.
Guardian is the worst roaming wvw profession, because its a full support class only good on zergs, that does not do so well alone, unless the other guy does not knows to play.
Guardians have a good chance beating a ranger, because ranger is as bad as guardian except that meditations give the guard a chance to last longer than a ranger, but again the ranger can still reset the fight by kiting and the use of cripple/kb.
The guardian needs to be buffed, to have a little more mobility to escape or chase, and his cooldowns decreased, only then he will be balanced.
OFFTOPIC:
Imho, the buff ranger is receiving is well deserved but its still too little in comparison to OP classes such as thief/war/engi/necro.

5 Pets draining health for you + you draining health for you = invincibility
Oh and you can reset the fight in your favor by pressing your autowin button : F1

Warrior is the best due to simplicity.
KISS methodology, keep it simple stupid

Engi/Ele third for versatility.
Worst mechanic is the ranger coz pets are crap in wvw, spvp and in serious pve.
Second worst is Guardian due to high cooldown on F3 and the useless F2

Group stability? Aegis?
Stability….every 30 seconds (feated), when other classes can knockback and pull you every 5 seconds.
Aegis 80 seconds cooldown from virtue, 60 seconds cooldown from retreat which will take the slot of other important skill….Aegis wont save you.

Any class….PVE does not take any skill at all. (Mesmer for jumping puzzles)

Warrior if you want to shine

SPVP :

Guardian staff swiftness = crap.
Unless you waste your upgrade slots for boon duration, which should bring it from 4 to 6 seconds, staff swiftness wont matter and wont let you escape nor catch other classes that are out of teleport range.
BUT other classes can catch you even if youre out of 1200 range.
About the staff heal?
Staff is so bad for roaming, it is only used for aoe might/small heal in WvW.
Guardian staff = i could care less.
I see myself being MUCH more useful with Scepter/Torch and Greatsword.
As a Warrior I can outrun ANYONE from the zerg or escape anyone in SPVP, including thieves and mesmers.
Horn 5, Sword 2, GS 5, GS 3, bullrush, Sword 2, GS 3…..wait a few more seconds for Horn 5 and start the cycle again.
Its not rocket Science :
Lower cooldown is better than higher cooldown
Higher health is better than lower health
More weapon choices is better than fewer weapon choices
Not needing to spend traits to fix things is better than having to spend traits to fix things
Many rushes and long jumps are better than 1 long jump
Low cooldown for swiftness with decent duration is better than medium cooldown for swiftness with short duration
warrior weapons :
Axe/Axe = it rocks, aoe, range, retaliation, cripple
Mace/Sword = so many blocks that a guardian can feel jealous, range, bleed
Mace/Shield = awesome
Mace/Mace = blocks, interrupts, so many good stuff
Sword/Sword = Has it all
Hammer = MOAB, aoe kb, FUMBLE!!! (-50% received damage : way better than crappy Protection), weakness (makes the other guy not being able to dodge, specially in fights that last more than a minute)
GS : awesome
Bow : Awesome in WvW
Rifle : Awesome in 1v1, cripple and bleed
Sword : bleed, long jump with 2 for escape and chase
Horn : swiftness
Guardian
Staff : mostly crap, only good thing is aoe might/heal, which lets you vulnerable.
Scepter : good, multihit with 2, paralysis with 3
Torch : by far the best damage weapon for guard, excellent pair for scepter, low cooldown (miracle?)
GS : The only mobility move and BAIL OUT for Guardian, high damage, number 5 pull has short range
sword : decent, teleport does not work without target, number 3 does good dmg
Focus : number 4 is crap and slow, number 5 has a nice block with HUUUGE cooldown
Mace : protection is bad in comparison to FUMBLE, symbol is crap
Shield : pbaoe kb is decent, protection is bad in comparison to FUMBLE.
Hammer : crap. SINGLE target kb instead of aoe kb like warriors, number 3 paralysis is hard to land, autoattack last hit is ULTRA SLOW, number 2 has 300 range what is this a joke?, number 5 takes so long to draw the circle by the time it finishes the enemy has already escaped, not to mention the long cooldown.
This is not an ego fight guys, equally skilled players, the warrior will win.
Guardian can only kill bad players.

I believe the Guardian mobility issues would be solved if he could teleport forward 900 range by using Sword 2 without a target selected.
And Guardian cooldowns needs to be brought in line with Warrior’s.
Then I belive the Guardian would be ‘balanced’.
I found Guardian way harder to play after I played a Warrior, here are the reasons :
- Has more micromanagement to do (Virtues and high cooldown on skills vs Warrior Adrenaline and Low Cooldowns )
- Has less weapon options
- Most weapons are bad in comparison to other classes ( good weapons are GS and Scepter/Torch, Sword/Focus VS all Warrior weapons are good )
- Very slow class ( has only GS3 for mobility, Retreat and Save Yourselves are 60 sec CD vs Warrior GS 3, 5 Horn 5, Sword 2, Banner, Bullrush and other skills, Swiftness from traits )
- Long Cooldowns ( more than half of Guardian skills needs 40 seconds to be reused vs Warrior more than half of Warrior skills needs less than 40 seconds to be reused )
- Guardian ABSOLUTELY REQUIRES traiting for less cooldown so you WASTE 1 or 2 traits for less CD.
- Warrior does not need to trait for cooldown reduction.
- Guardian has Protection 33% less damage received vs Warrior FUMBLE 50% less damage received
- Warriors higher Health pool and Effective Health Pool (EHP)
- Warriors can heal the same as Guardian
- Mobility again : makes you not take damage so youre a better tanker and you can ESCAPE FIGHTS that you would lose. If a Guardian is not going to win a fight, he is very likely NOT TO BE ABLE TO ESCAPE (unlike thief, mesmer, warrior)
Thats my perception on playing the classes. I feel Guardian is a subpar warrior in sPVP and WvW, I cant comment on PVE because Ive leveled from 2 to 80 on WvW.
