1. My gf and I used a spicy pumpkin cookie each for costume brawl and neither 1 of us got the achievement.
2. I just won Belcher’s Bluff in Rata Sun and this did not count either.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Activity If you look there both of those SHOULD count!!!!!
Sigh I sooooo had my hopes up for this and needless to say I was let down. Nothing but a semi how to nubs guide of wvw.
did you read the first post? It clearly says that this is a beginners guide. Cut the melodramatic nonsense, the negativity train really is annoying.
Oh so rather then having yet another dev waste our time w/ a live stream (with errors in it might I add) and yet another sticky; they couldn’t just have new people goto the sticky already here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/The-Basics-of-WvW-guide-and-more/first#post994854 that explains virtually everything he did in much more detail? Sorry if some of us were HOPING he’d oh idk actually anwer some questions that can’t be found in 10 seconds already posted here a thousand times on the forums. news flash….there is a search feature here on the forums people.
Sigh I sooooo had my hopes up for this and needless to say I was let down. Nothing but a semi how to nubs guide of wvw.
Few things I noticed:
1. Gotta love the troll who was dancing in ebg keep in front of him:)
2. You CAN’T see enemy placement of trebs by pressing “m”; only friendly trebs. He had that wrong.
3. You DON’T need to be in a guild to get the wvw buffs they have placed on an objective they own; everyone on the server in range will get those. Once again he got that wrong.
Any recap of what was said? Official/nonofficial idc.
I believe our axe pull will not oh idk actually pull people off of towers and such (it works on the y axis rather then the z axis) from what I have read.
1. Any chance we can ever get wxp rewards to become account bound rather then character bound? It punishes those of us who run alts….
2. When wxp came out they said there would be the possibility to get wxp boosters (ala karma/crafting boosters etc.); any idea as to when?
3. Can we get the ability to limit who sees commander tags? Sometimes for various reasons people only wish to run as a guild for example.
4. Ever any chance of rewards for winning servers?
5. Can we remove eb jp completely from eb so it is not necessary to que to ebg 1st?
6. Can you increase the radius of supply info check the commanders have?
7. Any plans on addressing various line of sight issues some skills have?
8. Can we PLEASE have the ability for Ranger pets to oh idk fly (if birds for example) from up top to the bottom of a structure in defense and vice versa. 40-60% of our dps wasted…..
9. Those of us who are team players who nonstop escort and upgrade need some love; any actual plans how besides promises?
10. Can we get it so that upgraded camps that have escorted guards; you must kill the guards 1st?
11. Supply camps. I can solo them most of the time within 45 seconds and cap. Don’t ya think that is a bit op? Ok go ahead and fully upgrade it and now it will take me 2-3 minutes max with 1 more ranger.
12. So when are we going to be getting all of these increased ecto’s in wvw that was promised?

This, this, and even more of this:
I’d ask if ANet plans to split future balance patches between PvE, sPvP and WvW, because many of 25th changes (nerfs) may work in sPvP, but are awfull in PvE and WvW.
Just one: since the technology is there to split skills between game modes, why don’t the sPvP crowd get to enjoy its nerfs for itself?
I’m dead serious too. We are just not playing the same game. The whole 1v1 node bunker meta has no point in regards to random pve, dungeons or wvw. Balancing the skills for it has been and still is a predictable clusterkitten from update to update. It may even bad for the community feeling. Or am i alone in wanting to punch a sPvPer in the face after every ‘balance fix’?
You are not alone, my fellow ranger. You are not alone.
Funny thing is, spvpers find a way around it and seem to be in the exact same state they were in before the patch, with the same amount (or lack thereof) variety, where as those of use playing the other games GW2 offers (pve, dungeons, wvw) have thrown up our hands or flipped a desk or two.
We need to talk to devs about WvW/PvE as well, please ask them if we can arrange that (you know… majority of player base)
I cannot stress this enough as because a few rangers found some op spvp build that everyone copied and ran nonstop; the REST of us have to deal w/ some bs nerfs. I NEVER spvp because I don’t give 2 kittens about it; it reminds me of all the idiots playing Call of Duty. I like to wvw (split between roaming/scouting/zerging/defending) and some pve content. Here are the issues that I have w/ our current state.
1. Fine you gutted the sb (now does anyone honestly use it). How about the trait that gives increased range to lb also apply to sb?
2. How about reverting the sb #1 attack back to pre fix/nerf stage?
3. How about making the sb bleeds etc easier to pull off?
4. How about making search and rescue oh idk actually rez dead rather then downed players once again? So many times I have used this in jumping puzzles back in the day or in bugged fotm to pick people up in places where there was no chance to get to them.
5. The leash range on pets nerf/buff. Omg this is quite annoying atm to deal with.
6. Rangers will never get perma pet stow right? Pets account for x amount of our damage right? Well then for kittens sake let me use a bird to attack on top of a structure to the people below/above me.
7. So pets basically all got their attacks nerfed yet no survivability added. Great go try zerging with them in wvw and see how that does. I am forced into a trap build for wvw. All I do is hit traps/nonstop TRY and move my pets in/out of combat to try and get MAYBE 1-3 attacks in before their death. I use drakes and good luck most of the time getting their attacks in; especially f2, before they have to be swapped/dead.
8. Can we just go ahead and make it permanent whatever buffs we get applies to our pets without any traits required? Go ahead and nerf them even more if you want; I just want the kitten things to actually perform well in open field wvw.
9. So I am up top trying to defend a structure and dealing with all types of mesmers/eles/rangers/necros raining holy hell at me. I pull out my lb and I have 1/2 more rangers (all of us adequately geared for wvw; no gc’s allowed) with us dropping healing spring on cd (and a few nice warriors blasting them for us). Yet no matter wth we do; we end up with 2 dead pets each if we decide to try and defend from up top. So whenever a gate gets close to 20% or so we are FORCED to fall back and wait for our pets death timers to end to defend once the breach occurs. Instead of oh idk actually defending we are forced to stand still and wait. Why? because our pets refuse to stay perma stowed EVEN when they CAN’T attack; only stand still and take damage.
10. Here’s a thought; increase the time for flame trap. Currently I believe all traps are 5 minutes except this one which is 90 seconds.
11. Perhaps make Rangers the anti thief stealth bane with traps that screw up their stealth (besides the useless trap you can buy in wvw).
12. Marksmanship line increases condition duration and LB users are forced to have at least 20 in that for increased range. Yeah that makes sense for a weapon that does no conditions other then cripple on barrage.
13. Skirmishing = precision and crit damage yet we need 30 into this for our traps to actually be viable which surprise surprise does condition damage.
14. Our spirits are such garbage anyways; just give us the ability for them to follow us nontraited. Anyone can pick up a warriors banner…..
15. Easiest solution is to revert all nerfs back to previous patch and make them apply to only spvp. Leave us pvers/wvwers alone; we get no love whatsoever.
It either you get them that way or via guild commendations (doing guild missions). Again working as intended.
So I’ve been theory crafting/beating up on golems trying to use this as a basis for zerging in wvw. I currently use knight’s w/ undead runes and celestial trinkets as a trap ranger. I use condition stacking weapons/wrench and then omnomberry compote along w/ sigil of restoration. I’d use sb and axe/horn(or torch). I do fairly well in T1 flipping camps/solo roaming or zerging.
Yet no matter what tweaks I make….I just can’t see how the hell to use this build effectively in wvw while zerging. Then without my traps…..I don’t see me running into the middle of a camp and flipping it as fast as I do now. Any advice?
Is it possible to obtain settler’s armor or weapons? If so how? I see there is settler’s jewelry and back piece is all.
Hmmm with this evidence it certainly seems much more plausible the reports I heard of on reset night jq/sor working together in each other’s ts server to double team bg relentlessy that night.
Can you add Rawthorne and Trameria to your list please? It’s me and my gf so obviously do it together. She’s available anytime after 9 est/6pst (game time) or before 12 est/9pst (game time).
Ok Rangers fire off all of your blasts…………….Hey Rangers…………we are waiting………ETWGT%&^%#Y Rangers do your blast finishers…………………..oh you don’t have any except when you use Drake pets?? Ok make them do some blast finishers………ahem Rangers we are waitingggggggggggggggg……….Oh you can’t actually control when the Drakes do their blast finisher? Well that is #RGT#RQWGHSF#$T%#$T!@
Welcome to the life a Ranger my friend.
Confirmed same results today on Blackgate
The banks were removed a while ago from enemy borderlands; it is meant to be an upgrade at hills/bay to obtain. The tp was ALWAYS available at all 4 borderlands maps up until Friday? Now the tp is ONLY available on your home borderland. There is no upgrade option for trading post so either bring it back or make it available when the bank is obtained at bay/hills on enemy borderland maps and ofc EBG.
Thank you for the replies people.
Ok if I am traited for http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Inspiring_Battle_Standard and I drop 3 banners how exactly does it work?
Here is the formula for regen http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Regeneration
At level 80 this is:
130 + (0.125 * Healing Power) per second
Let’s assume I have around 450 healing power. Assume also I am not using http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Banner_of_Tactics (which gives 170 healing).
1. Does this mean each banner gives 186.25 regen for both myself and all my allies? So over 550 hp/sec?
2. Or does the individual’s healing power instead come into place ie. I’d get 186.25 regen whereas others would get more/less according to their healing power?
3. Or do the banner regen heal amounts not stack; just duration?
Basically I’m trying to see how viable me running all 3 banners while utilizing http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Omnomberry_Compote and http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil_of_Superior_Restoration is in keeping me alive in wvw and fotm (I don’t do spvp and pve is obviously not an issue if you have half a brain).
Technically you are right; no one “loves” farming. But if you don’t like dungeons/fractals (such as myself) and you want an hour or 2 break from wvw (I wvw in t1 for 4-10 hrs a day) wth is there? SPVP? No thanks it reminds me of playing online shooters. Playing the tp market? Bah sooo boring. But occasionaly I come across some tx mats way outta whack for the price going for/effort to obtain. So hence I go find a good spot and farm the hell outta them every once in a while. Plus I go through mats such as Crystaline dusts nonstop (because of wvw) so I try and farm the hell out of those rather then buying them.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Diminishing_returns
Ok as you can see by that wiki post it is account bound for dungeons and character bound for regular pve. In the past few days I have been doing some heavy grinding in a new profitable spot I found on my Ranger. Bam I got like 8 rares in around an hour and a half using my mf set (along w/ many other goodies ofc). But now when I’m there I get nowhere near as much loot. So I tried bringing my engineer (albeit he doesn’t have a mf set) and man I’m getting crap there now. I tried taking my Ranger to other maps and hang out to do my dailies in Frostgorge etc. for an hour or 2 and then returning to my grind spot. Also I tend to wvw a lot each night so I thought possibly going to wvw would remove the dr.
So here are my questions:
1. Once a character has hit dr for dungeons; how does one remove it?
2. Once a character has hit dr for pve; how does one remove it?
3. Some have claimed with higher mf (since you will get more results for the loot table) you will hit dr faster; is this true?
4. Is dr for pve account or character bound? It certainly seems character bound to me…
I realize the devs don’t want to go into too much of specifics to aid the botters out there but that just penalizes the majority of us to thwart the minority of people who wish to bot. News flash; some of us actually love to grind/farm certain areas. Me personally I hate dungeons and although I am good at playing the tp game of making money; it is too kitten boring to me. Can you give us some more specifics on this please?
Well here is what I posted today on my guilds forum:
Ok per request I have my build here; make sure you check out every tab to see how it all synergizes together (like the consumables)
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ranger/?6.1|5.1o.h17|7.1h.h5.f.1h.hz|1n.719.1n.719.1n.719.1n.719.1n.719.1n.719|411.d1g.211.0.1n.64.211.0.1n.64.1b.67|k18.u28b.a3.a6.0|54.d|4i.50.53.52.54|e
Now in wvw I use Drake pets in the zerg as they have decent survivability and cone aoe condition damage with their F2 ability. It takes a while for it to channel though so good luck with it. Their tail swipe (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tail_Swipe) is a blast finisher that is an aoe which is nice as well. If you want more dps go with felines/birds. If you want more cc go with canines. If you want more ranged go with devourers/spiders. If you are horrible at watching pets health/wanna give them best chance to stay alive go with bears. http://www.guildwars2-pets.com/ Lists all but I think the Red Drake or whatever it’s called f/ Southsun Cove.
Ok I will sometimes swap spike trap out for muddy terrain when in an obvious choke/preventive measure such as by watergate garrison. Or sometimes I’ll use frost trap instead. Those 2 are more cc oriented. It all depends on how I’m feeling ie. more dps vs more cc. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Spike_Trap is kinda goofy as you see in that link at the bottom with its quirks so obviously it’s the one I always swap out 1st.
I primarily use an axe/warhorn to build up either condition or power stacks; so add 250 power or condition damage to my build with full stacks (lately been going primarily condition damage though). Then I swap my warhorn in and out nonstop w/ the torch as needed and use the sb and axe/torch combo when engaging the zerg (at least I try to; sometimes I still have the warhorn on which is no biggie). The fury from my warhorn (20% crit) really is nice; especially if I’m fast enough to pop that/swap to torch asap before engaging the zerg with the consumables and sigils I have on my weapons.
Now I don’t “stay on the commander” nonstop because duh I’m playing ranged, not melee. I stay close and try and anticipate enemy movements to place my traps. Plus also I’ll try and line up my arrows to take advantage of piercing arrows and flanking bleeds/damage I get with the sb. But bouncing the axe 1 skill works sometimes just fine as it will hit 3 targets.
Now I realize a lot of this can be changed to do this, that, or the other better. But like I said in my title; this is meant as a trap build for wvw zerging. It has the abilty to tag the most amount of enemies and some cc in there if you want it. Good survivability and decent crit/condition damage. This is not a pve/dungeon build. With a few tweaks this build performs well in spvp from what I have read on the main forums but I don’t spvp personally.
Now before anyone says anything about the longbow understand that lb vs sb loses in dps no matter what build you go (trust me I have read/seen the math hundreds of times on the forums). If you do wanna use the LB (I keep one in the bag and will use on occasion) use the 2-5 skills only then weapon swap to your alt set. When 2-5 LB skills cool downs are are up swap back to the LB; rinse and repeat. On occasion when we are attacking a structure I’ll swap a trait into the 1500 range for LB and pull it out to try and kill enemy siege etc. It only takes me a few seconds to swap traits/weapons.
Finally I will sometimes swap my elite to Rampage As One (the only way we gain stability so it helps offensively) or Spirit of Nature to cast the Nature’s Renewal skill which will rez npc’s and downed allies (great to use on the Lord/Supervisor) just like warrior’s banner rez.
@Rawthorne.8675 So you run traps with what? ~400 condition damage? That seems a bit low to me.
I use Carrion + Melandru runes. What’s happening is that I trade prec for cond dmg. Also conditions last a shorter period of time on me. And I’m also on a T1 server. SFR.
611 unbuffed condition damage but I use sigil of corruption (adds 250 after I get all of my stacks which I do on my axe/warhorn) and master tuning crystals (adds 168). So I end up w/ 1029 condition damage. Rest of my crap =
53% crit
2766 att
2788 armor
1608 vitality (health always changes cuz wvw buffs earned by server)
20% condition duration
10% boon duration
92 healing power
45% crit damage
I personally haven’t found a way to have decent toughness (for wvw obviously) and condition damage, and decent crit rate/dmg except going the route I have. Oh and then I use a sigil of fire on my sb.
I agree shorter durations of conditions placed on me is viable for some; I just don’t like it as it requires a sacrifice somewhere else (in your case precision). I use omnomberry ghosts so I need a fairly decent crit rate.
What works well for me inside wvw (I run in T1 in massive zerg balls a lot) is knight’s armor w/ undead runes. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Knight%27s#Triple_attribute
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Undead
High toughness then which also helps out your condition damage (so obviously sb and traps I run). Add your vit/crit dmg/precision via the jewelry/jewels and or possibly weapons. A true pita to keep pets alive though. I go for drakes for condition damage but popular choices are also canines and felines in larger settings and birds in smaller skirmishes. Make sure you have food to benefit your build such as http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Omnomberry_Ghost
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Loaf_of_Omnomberry_Bread
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Master_Tuning_Crystal
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Sharpening_Stone
Pve honestly any build works just fine. Dungeons/fractals well that’s a different story especially higher difficulty dungeons (be prepared for nonstop dead pets).
If there was ever a coordinated 2v1 I would personally buy every member of my guild who doesnt already have multiple accounts a copy of gw2 along with a stash of gems and coordinate a mass sabotage and filling wvw spots campaign. So go ahead I have an excess amount of disposable income.
So let’s say you get 300 people to do this (I’m sorry anything under that wouldn’t make a difference during the majority of the day). That’s $60/game = $18,000. Not to mention a slew of gems as you claimed. So if this happens you are willing to blow upwards of $20,000 on a frigging game to sabotage it? I’m sorry but I can think of much better things to do with 20 grand no matter how much disposable income I have. This coming from someone who left a pay to win Chinese MMO where people would spend upwards of $5-10000 a MONTH just on clothing; let alone people spending $30,000 irl cash just on 1 weapon that would became obsolete 6-9 months later. There they personally at least got something tangible for it; albeit it short lived at times. I’d love to laugh at someone who’d do this such as yourself personally as it would not in the least bit impact me; whereas that other game I was forced to compete with those heavy cash shoppers nonstop.
BG member here and here is my perspective while playing anywhere f/ 5pm – 3 am est. Many times I see commanders PURPOSELY leave JQ soft targets alone (such as southern SoR tower recently flipped to JQ side). They want nothing more then to attack SoR and get the double team onto SoR; no matter what map we are on.
Now why is this? The consensus amongst many on BG is that we are in the predicament we are in cuz of the nonstop double teaming on us and SoR is “inferior” yada yada yada so we are trying to give SoR a taste of the 2v1 that BG supposedly has had to endure nonstop while in T1. Or we tend to be shortsighted at times and see a soft SoR target and go for that while ignoring the JQ behemoth on the map so both SoR and BG fight for scraps nonstop while JQ comes in and cleans us both up afterwords (honestly a lot of times I can’t blame anyone on any side for this tactic).
What is the fix for this? Hell idk. SoR and BG have way too much bad blood between us and are both gun shy on soley focusing on JQ. Our commanders many times try and bait either SoR or JQ to assist us in a double team but rarely does it happen without the other then hitting our soft targets immediately causing us to fall back. So it becomes an endless cycle of lower morale on both BG and SoR of less people logging in/less hours wvwing/looking for only soft targets while the behemoth of JQ keeps on rolling us both. The end result = JQ wins no matter what and more bad blood between SoR and BG and less people logging in for wvw all around (worse for both BG and SoR). So the fights in T1 become worse as time goes on for all of those involved although JQ comes out ahead and grows with each and every week.
The guild that does the most effort in capping something (aka your main guild) gets a sort of “reserved claim” for the first 3 minutes or so. After that, any guild can claim it. Only suggestion I can give is have everyone rep the secondary guild temporarily while you take the camp.
Ok now this backs what I have witnessed personally. I have tried taking camps while repping my alt guild with a few randoms and I still ended up with the problem. Makes perfect sense to me now. Thanks people for the replies.
Ok my gf and I recently created an alt guild for giggles. We are in a large wvw T1 guild w/ a 100% rep requirement. Well I figured why not use that alt guild to claim supply camps all of the time for the +5 supply boost while our main guild uses its buffs for important things like towers, garrison etc.? So that’s what I have been doing. but it hasn’t been working out quite as I had intended.
So here is what typically happens. We will flip a supply camp and I will then change my rep to the alt guild and try and claim it. Unfortunately I have to wait several minutes before I can claim it on my alt guild. BUT I can immediately claim it from my main guild no matter what. So lately I have 2 choices. 1. Wait and come back to the camp to claim it. 2. Stand there and keep clicking for roughly 3 minutes before I can claim it.
Now if I hop on over to any camp etc. that has been owned for a while I can claim it asap on either guild. But if I ever try to claim asap on my alt guild; nope I have to wait a few minutes. I’ve even tried repping my alt guild while flipping it to see if I can claim it to little or no success.
Any suggestions/observations/insight as to wth is going on? How might I do it differently so I can use those buffs asap? Just started researching Art of War 3 so we can get even more buffs to place on structures if need be (albeit it costs a pretty penny to buy all of the influence required to do so). Here’s how it all works if anyone is curious after forming your own guild http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Influence
Still awaiting an official response as to how the dolyak point system works. There is an official response on how the glicko system works in regards to how the matchups are made yet none as to how a hidden portion of how the scoring system works.
Hey Devon how about FINALLY answering the op question (to which you partially replied) on how many points yaks are actually worth? You seem to have gotten lost in here on this thread so I’ll show you where it was https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Clarification-needed-please-Dolyak-points/first
Or do we need to make a new thread every day for months on end to get an answer/solution which seems to me how this t7/t8 fiasco here has been partially solved albeit half hazardly?
If you kill a yak right before it enters it is worth 15 points. Right after it leaves its 5 points. En route it is 10 points. Our guild leader is a commander here in a major guild in t1 BG and has written and witnessed it over weeks and watched hundreds of times. We will take the entire zerg to go kill a yak and he watches the points the entire time. We do it at all hours of the day. Hell we will send people all across the map just to go and kill a yak. Yaks are worth more points then anything else in wvw; yet few guard them.
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/
Next time before buying any game try that site 1st. It will 99% of the time let you know if you can and why you can’t.
As far as 30 vs a T3, yes they were coordinating over voice and guild chat. They absolutely failed plenty of times and they tried lots of different tactics before they found what worked for them. But they were mighty pleased with themselves once they got it done, and that’s exactly the kind of group content that we’re aiming for.
Call me crazy here but having the devs/testers claiming the ONLY way they completed content they brought out in a game was via using voip programs seems asinine to me. Yes I use voip programs and have been for years while playing mmos. BUT NEVER should devs claim the ONLY way to successfully complete some pve content is by using voip. It should ALWAYS be possible using only the in game tools available. I’d suggest some REAL ACCURATE testing be done by 30 people for a T3 using nothing but guild chat, map chat, etc. Using voip is meant for us; the players, to communicate better and is a 3rd party program. If the testers are going to use voip while testing any content of the game perhaps the devs need to fully integrate voip into said game and make it an actual requirement in order to play the game.
Now mind you I am in a large (300+) hardcore wvw guild in Blackgate so we don’t have these issues that others have. Our biggest issue is that so many people in our guild have under 25% of world completion done and thus struggle to find a close way point once we find the targets. Our voip/guild chat convos are like “where the hell is that, what the hell is that, wow I’ve never been there, how the hell do I get there, man this map sucks/looks cool, wait guys I’m almost there I just found a way point on the next map over and I’m running to you, etc.” Personally I find it funny and yet embarrassing at times at some of these people who bought and leveled and only stay in wvw 24/7.
LB is a terrible weapon. it’s so sad that devs dont actually realize this, and newbs keep saying positive things about it on the forums. LB rangers in WvW are an embarrassment. thing is people dont realize how amazing a high RoF weapon like the power/crit SB is with sigil of fire. range is about the same, and utility so much greater.
anyway, getting off topic here. let me just add that the LB does not synergize well with the pet, mostly because both the pet and the LB fail at longer ranges. LB also fails at 900 or closer, where pets are most effective. issue is, at longer rangers both the pet and the arrows can be juked effortlessly. and landing your barrage cripple + pet combo requires a ridiculous amount of micromanagement for a subpar effect, while often making u dead while u channel. SB on the other hand gives you a spammable cripple that is effective at any range.
Tell me how long you have used the longbow and how you’re using the longbow before you make a claim like that.
Well I have over 3500 kills with the LB equally split between wvw and pve TRYING to make it work with several different builds. Alas what you quoted is the truth. The LB is a 1 trick pony that is easily avoided. It’s great when it lands but when it doesn’t you have 30 seconds to try again. If we had 3-4 wpn swap possibilities sure we’d all use it. But we have 2. So most rangers use a sb and some melee wpn combo or 2 sets of melee wpn combo. That RARE occasion where I see an opportunity to place a nice barrage I swap the SB for LB after a nice buff f/ the warhorn. Then I move back and pop the SB back on. The math has been done repeatedly for LB vs SB. Sb wins every kitten time.
Grr since I can’t edit my post I’m forced to do this. Obviously my post was directed at Choo. But I’m sure our guild is always willing to do a GvG if anyone is willing. Choo and ICoa obviously have a certain level of animosity towards 1 another….
Ok ICoa member here and I’m here to set the record straight on a few things last night. Our mandatory wvw nights are Friday, Saturday, and Wednesday. Also Sunday was our guilds turn to protect BG BL. So we were out in force on all of those nights. Last night was supposed to be our night off so a lot did other things like spvp against one another. Around 9pm est 1 of our guild leaders/commanders hopped into JQ BL (not on his main so had no siege) and a few of us followed to go have some fun. We started the night at 5 members and I was the only 1 who had any siege (from jumping puzzles and no superiors). We slowly grew to 10ish about 1-2 hours later and our force never grew to more then 20ish until I logged off at 1 am est. Remember this was our night “off” so we were just trying to have some fun.
Did we get wiped numerous times? Oh hells yes we did. We were mainly a small strike force/mini zerg trying to harass/ninja objectives. Numerous times we attempted to take on larger forces to see if we could accomplish it. Normally we can but our zerg composition of classes was not what we normally have coupled w/ some on lowbies. But we were TRYING to be the thorn in JQ/SoR’s side while the larger force on the map could accomplish things w/ much lesser resistance. So props to all who filled their bags f/ us blah blah when we were outnumbered etc. We’ve done it numerous times to you guys as well and both sides have countless hours of video to prove it. The ONLY way to settle this is to accept the gauntlet that 3 of our leaders have thrown down NUMEROUS times in this thread. Set a time, place, and equal # on both sides and let’s see who is better. I’ve seen ICoa leaders say this at least 5-10x in this thread with no one willing to accept the challenge. So until then stop the chest beating on we wiped you, filled our bags blah blah nonsense. 1 guild versus 1 guild. Mano vs mano. Open field. Equal numbers. Tell us when and where and we will be there. Until someone is willing to accept this challenge you are all talk and no bite. You are admitting that you are unwilling to accept the challenge and think you have the better skill but nothing to truly base it upon.
So once again let me reiterate. ICoa has thrown down the gauntlet. Any guild who claims to be the best come prove it in open field at a set time with equal #‘s on both sides. We will make no excuses if we lose but we will continue to mock any guild who claims to be great by making the filled bags claim over and over. We have said this numerous times in this thread. Yet no one has had the guts to take us up on this challenge. We don’t claim to be the best. We just believe that if someone wants to claim this they should oh I don’t know be able to back that claim up and are willing to take the challenge on. So come on all you strong wvw guilds in JQ/SoR. Who’s finally man enough to take us up on this challenge? Keep mocking saying you only care about the fights, don’t care about ppt, wipe us/fill your bags, blah blah blah. Well it’s put up or shut up time. Meet us open field with equal #’s or stop the trolling trying to pump yourselves up.
Ok let me preface this that unless you have countless hours as a 80 ranger trying to do end game content and then seeing the difference when rolling to other classes (then doing the same content) you will THINK this is overpowered but in fact it is not. Remember that our pets are 30-40% of our dps and are basically useless in most end game content and are constantly doing stupid things. Plus the thought of me having to dodge roll through necro wells in wvw and then guessing that my pet is about to go through 1 as well and possibly dodging (using a different button) simultaneously? Umm yeah I’ll pass.
Here’s what I was thinking after reading a different suggestion here. We have 2 pets available at any time right? Well if we choose to have them in passive mode (and both must be alive) we get some sort of buff to compensate for the lack of dps we have lost. So as to prevent abuse it has say a 60-120 sec cd and also resets on death. Thus we can’t put pets on passive to gain buffs, send them to attack, and then bring them right back for the buffs. Sort of like a perma stow option that buffs us. Hell I’d be happy if it only lasted say 5-10 minutes max w/ that cd.
Now here is what I was thinking. Here are the pets we have http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pet. Let’s say I have eagle and hawk both available for pet swap and I perma stow them. Well I get 5% passive swiftness from both of them for a total of 10% while they are stowed. It goes along w/ their Quickening Screech (Grant swiftness to nearby allies) skill they already have. I have a Lynx [Maul (Slash a foe multiple times and make them bleed)] I get increased bleeds f/ attacks and I have a Alpine Wolf [Brutal Charge (Leap at your foe and knock them down)] we get say a 5-10% chance to knock down foes with each attack.
So in essence I sacrifice 30-40% of my dps by perma stowing my pets. Whatever 2 pets I have perma stowed grants me some type of passive bonus. Each pet grants something different. Before everyone trolls me saying it is game breaking think of it this way. Rangers currently almost constantly lose 30-40% of their dps in end game content. Giving us something to compensate such as 10% swiftness is game breaking? Go look at the amount of Rangers in wvw that are not upleveled and are not using a bear class pet (pathetic damage but has a chance to somewhat survive while zerging). Pets are instant dead in fotm 20+ and cause so many issues in many dungeons doing dumb crap. Who the hell EVER runs/worries about a ranger in wvw in open field?
sigh 45 ish min que and I dc once again after 45 secs after walking to our north supply camp (ignoring the door). Oh did I mention NUMEROUS of my guildies have had same issue?
And now after waiting in quue for an hour I get dced after 3 minutes. Yet my gf RIGHT NEXT TO ME has yet to dc. Other guildies have had SAME ISSUE!!
My guild (ICoa) had numerous people (try 20-30+) dc tonight in wvw. We hopped in right at reset and some of us were there for seconds and others for a few minutes. We headed straight to our Garrison. From what I could tell we ALL popped into the TC island 1st and then popped into our BG BL that dced ( I asked in TS f/ the rest of our guildies). I personally dced like 2-3 minutes after zoning in adter attempting to go through our garrison watergate.
I left BG to go play with another guild on another server right as they went to T1. I was just watching some recent video’s of Knt/Icoa/etc, and they have definitely improved from what I can tell.
Knt always had some good leadership, so it doesn’t surprise me that their core adapted and learned. Icoa I always thought of as a collection of pugs (no offense, but back in T2 you guys were pretty disorganized a lot of the time). Now when I watched a video with Icoa, I was like wow that’s not the same guild I remember.
Well as a member of ICoa for the last 2.5-3 months let’s just say our leadership/commanders have put in countless hours learning and refining our current overall guild zerg/build/strike force strats. Every night we are refining and discussing and posting on our forums changes and builds. There are nights in places such as EB we wipe zergs 2x+ our size over and over and over now. The major thing that actually causes any wipes we encounter is the element of surprise; especially when doing something else. Give us a chance to see/know a zerg is incoming and our win % is probably in the 90’s unless we are outnumbered 4-1. How are we doing this you say? Go learn how yourself; we have by putting the blood, sweat, and tears on the battlefield and research.
What ICoa is today is NOTHING compared to what we were 5/6 weeks ago and will be NOTHING compared to what we willl be in another 5/6 weeks as more and more members adopt our overall builds and strats and gear up appropriately. Me personally I have 2 classes fully decked out in 80 exotics w/ a large amount of karma that I am basically shelving (as they are useless) and now leveling 2 other classes to use for our guild strat and there are many more in the guild like me.
It’s funny on the BG TS how many times other guilds ask ICoa ask us for help somewhere and yet we get the least amount of respect/shout out from our opponents amongst the major wvw BG guilds. That’s fine. We don’t care. Let others have the glory and respect. We will be the grunts steamrolling everything and collecting our bags while complaining we need to empty our inventory every frigging 10-15 minutes out on the battlefield; not being wimps standing behind some gates pounding our chests that way when we get alot of kills (as so many others on these forums do). We get our loot taking things and wiping things. We don’t beat our chests when wiping people when we are defending sm/garrison etc.

Here is my 2 cents on this issue.
1. Hey NO ONE can tell anyone else how to play this game as long as not botting/exploiting etc. In a party you can have more say if you have issues w/screwing things up etc. What we are saying is OUR OPINION which is what you asked.
2. I do a lot of the jumping puzzles spread out over multiple characters and I try and do them all daily. Then I’ll hop onto my gf’s account (if she’s busy cooking dinner etc.) and grab all the eb jp ones on all of her characters if we have mesmers available. So roughly in the last 3+ weeks between us I have donated 200+ siege easily to my guild’s commanders I am in Icoa which is a heavy wvw guild in BG). I give them FREELY to help fund the war effort as I am doing the jp’s for the badges/drops from chests; the bp’s are just a bonus:)
3. You are taking a simplistic approach to the scenario. No matter how cheap you make the siege it is STILL taking away possible funds that others can be BETTER utilized for upgrades and MORE siege. You are on TC right? Do you enjoy being on T2? Ever have hopes/aspirations of making it to T1? It takes all hands on deck and every little bit helps. I know numerous mesmers who try DAILY to camp the eb jp and ask for NOTHING in return and will spend hours in there. Most if they ask for anything will only ask for donations of siege which in turn they turn over to their favorite guilds/commanders. I can hop into eb almost anytime of the day and we get ppl asking about mesmers and it seems most of the time it is yes or they are clearing out the puzzle and requesting help.
4. If more people did this and it became the norm here on BG and we lost our mesmer hordes that strive to assist in eb jp we would find ourselves quickly dropping tiers/watching ppl transfer away en mass. It is what has allowed BG to grow into the force we are today. The amount of nonsense you hear in my guild’s TS about pugs would make your head spin but the moment we ask a random group/guild to go do something (ala attack different gate, escort yaks, drop siege, etc.) they do it and they do it kitten well. Why? Cuz pugs gave server PRIDE (at least on BG) and want to effing win and are willing to do whatver is required if it helps the war effort. Without them BG would be nowhere.
5. Hey you don’t normally do zergs and are more of a roamer? Well if those zergs aren’t around keeping the heat on the opposing servers trying to defend/take heavily defensed objectives guess what happens? The opposing teams disband their zergs and make numerous strike squads to find and destroy roamers such as yourself. So in essence they are protecting you albeit while you are providing a valuable service for them. The problem is their effort has a prohibitive cost involved while yours has virtually none. Furthermore I have played alot of the roamer role and the zerg role. Going up against quality opponents in prime time hours the rewards/repairs etc. are much better as a roamer vs being involved in a zerg.
6. Finally the best way to look at is if everyone did this how would the wvw health of your server turn out? People only willing to drop siege if getting “paid” for it? People rushing to grab siege on the ground before someone else gets to it? Mesmers demanding paid for portals in jp (a few scum have tried doing this already)? You are on the unofficial RP server TC and you cannot help out your fellow war leaders even though you are reaping the benefits as well from their efforts (go look at those wvw bonuses even available in pve which put more money into you pocket via every kill etc.) I’d suggest a transfer into a T8 server or so. You are giving the people of TC (I was there for around a month) a bad name even having TC above your head. Let alone being a guild leader on that server. I guarantee you if I was a commander/heavy wvwer in your guild I’d blow a head gasket if I witnessed you doing this.
Score update. Gotta admit I was on JQBL right at reset last night and was there for hours (even though I had router issues which forced me to reque a few times qq) and it was pretty intense. I don’t think I EVER saw so many people escorting yaks into a garrison like I saw JQ doing last night; at least for the first few hours. Obviously it is basically a dead even match atm so kudos to all involved. BG obviously has the whole move ->T1 momentum and the other 2 have the whole welcome to T1 momentum and trying to smack the snot out of us nonstop. Which will hold out longer imo will determine this week’s winner. We had sooooooooo many guildies crying about long ques last night which is a GOOD thing unless you are one of those waiting (which I was forced to do several times qq). I will also admit that last night was the some of the best coordination on a map I have ever witnessed and it was still only enough to hold our own and then eventually being shoved back once we got 2v1ed nonstop.
Tonight my gf and I (who play gw2 sitting next to 1 another) had issues at home w/ our router. So several times we were kicked f/ the game blah blah. Well we are on Blackgate and tried re queing to enter JQ BL. Several times SHE ENTERED BEFORE me even though I qued before her. Sometimes even several minutes before me and trust me I was staring at the screen so I never missed it. Even now I can’t enter even though others claim it’s a short que. Yes I have tried restarting my client several times.
Im in the est of US and I’ve been a member of Blackgate for 2.5 months or so. I’ve been in a large pve guild (any dragon spawns and bam you will most likely see 5-10+ of them there) that is slowly trying to have organized guild wvw nights 2x a week. Then recently I joined a heavy large wvw guild that is part of the alliance that is 99% all about wvw. But the majority of my time here has been guildless so I have seen it from all 3 different angles here on Blackgate. My playtime is normally around 6pm est → roughly 1-4 am est.
Now with that being said this is what I have seen and learned. Prime time (5-11pm est to cover the west coast as well) Blackgate somewhat “struggles.” Almost always there is 1 borderland map where we either have the outmanned buff or break out event available or will be soon. At times I prefer solo wvw and don’t follow the guild’s zerg on whatever map we are on for the “challenge.” I like doing the breakout events and seeing how long with 90% PUGS we can hold off the massive zergs that come our way and see how well we do without a commander on the map ala how well we communicate/work well with one another when no “chief” is around; only us “indians.” Is it more frustrating? Hell yes it is. But is it more rewarding when we succeed? With out question yes.
Here is a perfect example of Blackgate’s weakness. Roughly an hour or so after reset last week I left an enemie’s Borderland map and went to our map. Upon arrival I was SHOCKED to see we had NOTHING on our own map. Then to my surprise I saw the ONLY commander there ORDER everyone off of our OWN map to goto the borderland map I had just left. Even though it now had a que to enter so 20-30+ just stood there ignoring the report to Cdr breakout event possibility. After I had a wth moment in team chat people finally came to do the event. Another example is last week I tried 5x in a row to do the breakout event on a borderland event and failed each time (some of the time we had the outmanned buff).
What does this boil down to and how is BG doing so well? Well a few of my new guildies put it best to me the other day. Us here in NA primetime do our best to hold off the opposing sides as best we can and try and take/upgrade/build siege as best as we can so that once our Oceanic guilds come on they can move out en mass taking everything in sight. Basically we try and set them up to demolish everything in sight as quickly and easily as possible. They are “carrying” us to our victories so we do whatever we can to try and help them.
Now Blackgate has a unique but good problem to have that ANY OTHER SERVER would love to have. We have the BEST Oceanic coverage out there but are lacking when compared to other servers in North America prime time coverage. I’m not saying we are “bad” but when you stack our North America prime time coverage against our opponents we are inferior but CLOSE. Where we shine and are unmatched is our Oceanic coverage. I typically see 160-280 points for us at anytime with the possibilty of a breakout event on 1 borderland map when I am on and then I see ss’s of when I’m not of us having kitten near everything out there.
So where does this lead to the prospective NA guilds out there contemplating a transfer? We have a dedicated mumble/website for all of Blackgate to utilize to communicate as much as possible. There would always be an opportunity to take the entire guild onto the same bordelands map at least (ie at least 1/3 could always use some more people). If you NEED a commander to hop onto a map and lead you can always hop onto the mumble and ask. From what I have seen many people are willing to do it if they are needed. We will be moving up to Tier one soon and we are making plans to SUCCEED there. We have identified our strengths and weaknesses and are looking to make ourselves better. Also take it from someone who pugs alot in wvw that even our pugs shine most of the time.
What it boils down to is if you wish to join a server who is SERIOUS about making the jump back up to Tier one and succeeding then Blackgate is the home for you. We have all the tools in place. Now we just need you….
Thank you all for the helpfull responses as they have been quite informative.
So p/v/t would work just fine in dungeons but I’d be screwed in high level fractals? Well I guess then my next question would be to you high level fractal players what would you suggest? I don’t see my ranger as being that viable of an option due to pets dying nonstop (thus nerfing my damage) and engineers IMO were a viable alternative before they nerfed grenades and “fixed” the elixir gun heal (which greatly improved my capability to support the team). What type of build/gear are you high level fractal players using?
Basically I was thinking since they “claim” that by the end of January they will have a “fix” to allow people to rejoin when they dc etc. f/ fractals that I’d have a month to level/gear up a warrior any way I desired but if it’s not going to be much better of an alternative then my engineer/ranger I currently have. With those 2 classes to be effective I have to pigeonhole myself into certain roles/builds to be effective and then I can’t do much of anything else effectively.
1. I like divinity runes cuz of the 60 points into every stat.
2. If I understand it correctly I’d have like 360? or so healing power w/ a build/runes I’m contemplating. Wouldn’t be enough?
3. Toughness won’t help me at all f/ dungeon mobs?
4. More or less I was thinking high level fractals and such along w/ dungeons to tank as much crap as possible alongside my gf (who’d be playing a suport build guardian). Not feasible? Or just a waste of time?
Ok I have been here since launch and I have a full exotic asura ranger and human engineer. I don’t do spvp and I have full map completion on those 2 characters so I do some light wvw obviously. But w/ the grenade nerf wvw isn’t as much fun on the engineer and the sb nerf they did a while back makes the ranger meh to play. Plus I have done a few dungeons/fractals on them but I tend to stay away f/ fractals due to the dc/bugged bs that has cost myself hrs of aggravation. So my gf (who has a full exotic thief and elementalist and has similar tastes) was thinking of rolling a Charr guardian and I was thinking of rolling a Charr warrior. Why Charr 1st off? She wants every race’s story completion done.
Now obviously what I was thinking was we’d use these 2 characters as our “dungeon/fractal” characters as supposed “tanks” to complement one another. We wouldn’t give 2 xxxxx about our dps and probably go full exotic vit/toughness/power gear and fully traited into vit/toughness and a minor into power ala 30/30/10. We are tired of the running for our lives/kiting bs and just wanna stand there and tank any kitten thing that comes our way and just tell the rest of the party to keep some heals going on us and dps their hearts out. Plus I’d love to actually for once be able to stand there toe to toe against some champion mobs without kiting/dodging etc. nonstop.
Now with that being said are we crazy and going to waste our time/resources? I was thinking like I said w/ 30/30/10 vit/toughness/power and the same into exotic armor/jewelry and possibly weapons as well. What skills/weapons would complement what I want to accomplish? Would we end up being frustrated with our builds? Would wvw be a non viable option? Oh I was also thinking of full runes of divinity (+60 all stats and +12% crit chance for a full set) as I like those the best.
So any advice? What type of damage/hp/armor etc. would I be looking at? The build calc’s all use pvp armor so kind of hard to tell. I’m wondering like what would ui attack power etc. would be. Or would some different type of build/armor allow my gf and I to accomplish our goals better? What weapons/armor should I look to use since I can make anything we would need? Yes I know I won’t be able to “craft” power/toughness/vit armor and I’d be forced to use wvw badges or run some dungeons for those.
I use Carrion + Melandru runes. What’s happening is that I trade prec for cond dmg. Also conditions last a shorter period of time on me. And I’m also on a T1 server. SFR.
