Charr and Asura female precursor armor

Yes, change them.

The absolute best would be to remodel the set entirely to fit each race. Assuming the general design of the armor will stay the same when making the journey to the legendary version: you really cannot have stretched textures, weirdly translated armor pieces or clipping on legendary armor! It should supposedly (one of) the coolest armor(s) in the game, representative of GW2, so it need to at least fit each race well.

Also a choice for everyone whether they want to use the male or female design would be super cool. But I can understand that would take a lot of work.

Retain the preset system for those you think won’t be able to understand it, and add an alternative that doesn’t force “Veteran Players” to be locked in to specific amounts, or with excess gems they can’t liquidate for gold.

Problem:
The new system is restrictive and limits choice. Players are forced to buy more than is needed for the items they want, and are unable to exchange the excess gems to gold without left over gems. The market graph has been removed, which removes an element of transparency to the system, which is problematic for those who want to make purchases with confidence.

New players rarely have access to enough gold to make the lowest gold to gem conversion, and those that do have access to enough gold surely have a keen understanding of game systems and/or gem purchasing mechanisms. If the “ease of use” is to encourage gem purchases with cash, and conversions to gold, the amounts available guarantee a remainder that is useless and a loss for the player (they paid for 400 gems, but are unable to convert the full gem amount into gold, and thus have a remainder of gems that are useless for future purchases, i.e., 1-3 gems).

Solution:
Return flexible options to players. The vast majority understand the system, and feel upset and alienated with this change. Many do make conversions of small amounts, especially to make up for the discrepancies between gem purchase amounts and item pricing, which is of course an intended system to encourage more sales.

— Add a slider that allows players to adjust for precise conversions (Important: not limited to set amounts). This allows players to see the conversion ratio, and offers precision so players are not left with excess gems, nor are they forced into spending a significant amount more that they can or wish to.

— Add a text input field, again, for precise conversions. You can even hide it behind a “Advanced option” or “Other amount” button. This will lead to an additional tab/window/field that provides input fields like any other currency converter (the google currency converter, for example).

If you’re really doing this because of the few players who opened tickets for “accidental” purchases, perhaps add a confirmation screen. “You are about to exchange X gold for X gems. OK / Cancel”

- Re-add the market history graph. This allowed players to make informed decisions based on value patterns, and it was an interesting aspect of the conversion besides.

This is a very good post. Thanks for putting it into words skillfully, Islarose.

I like the UI, but I’d like it better if you put at the bottom or top a section to Fill in Your Own values. Best of both worlds, you know?

^ this, I’m posting it again and I will post it again on devs working time (more chance of them seeing it)

Yeah something like this would be nice.
Idk why it doesnt quote your picture.

If it’s still too confusing then it could just show up later and not rightaway at level 1 for new players. But I really think it’s not confusing at all and also I don’t believe that the confusion caused is the reason of the change.

This is absolutely disgusting, I can’t even express how disappointed I am…

The excuse that it was too confusing for new players makes no sense. If it was, you would have added this as an extra and keep the old exchange an “advanced” tab or something, not force this shameless moneygrabbing onto everyone.

It’s really a poorly disguised way of forcing people to buy more gems…

CoherentUI_Host.exe + Crashing

I had a similar crash today – I found the following fixed it for me (on Windows 7 64-bit):

1. Create a new shortcut to the GW2.exe executable
2. Right click the shortcut and click “Properties”, then click the “Shortcut” tab at the top
3. At the end of the “Target” box (after the existing text and after the closing speech mark) add the following, replacing the <> bits with the appropriate text:
-email <your account email address> -password <your password> -nopatchui
4. Click Apply, OK, then double click the shortcut to launch GW2

For me this seemed to skip whatever part of the launcher screen was crashing, hope it works!

Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon, I just had an appcrash in-game. At least it got past the login…

This got me past the stuck launcher, but the screen remains black. I can see the game’s cursor and move it but nothing else. I do not have SweetFX installed anymore so it can’t be that.

Thanks for this solution though, it’s still a tiny step forward! (Also win7 64-bit)

The log of the game says this, dunno if it’s helpful:

full path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\
redirecting CreateDevice
initialising shader environment
redirecting device->Reset
initialising shader environment
redirecting device->Reset
initialising shader environment
redirecting device->Reset
initialising shader environment
redirecting device->Reset
initialising shader environment

Trying from a different path than program files gives the same result. /clientport 80 or not does not matter either, still gives the same result. Will try now on my win8 laptop.

Tried the solution with moving the game out of program files, no antivirus, running as admin but launcher still freezing upon starting it.

I too would like an option to turn it off or at least stop the wiggling, the size is not the problem. It’s looking adorable on Asura and funny but it really gives me motion sickness too after a few minute of play.

I guess today I will just rush my daily and not do anything else, so it’s not too big of a problem but still, a toggle would be nice, at least for my own character. It’s not about having no sense of humor, I actually think it’s very funny, unfortunately it just makes me feel sick.

I would like camera to give you a better overview, right now I either can’t see the full top of the circle when I look at it from above, or I have troubles seeing the most left and right note because the ridge is obstructing it a bit.

It’s a minor inconvenience but I think the game could be improved if you coulde easily see all colors/paths at one glance! Other than that, I like this game!

I think it would be better if the exploding gifts weren’t based on other people touching them/being there, just on you so that you don’t have to wait for them to reset properly when a horde of players just passed.

I feel like it was less random last year. Right now it’s highly confusing when a swarm of players tries to get to the top. After a few tries you kinda get the pattern, but still.

Also the huge snowball is my nemesis, I’m constantly fooled by my asura’s small statue to think that I will not get hit. :P But then it smashes me all the same. :’(

PvP Cultural Armor and Emperor title?

in PvP

Posted by: Renske.6178

Renske.6178

at the moment, no, t3 armor from pvp doesn’t seem to count towards the emperor title.

Thank you, that’s what I wanted to know. I hope ArenaNet will decide to do something about this, as I think it’s only fair for PvP players that it counts.

Think they said they will be usable in PvE but this isn’t in place yet from what I understand. I think I will hold buying it until it is. Also not sure what form it will take: I’m assuming that it will need the transmutation crystals.

Yeah I read something along those lines also, we will probably see it in a future patch.

It using transmutation crystals to convert/use it in PvE wouldn’t be that big of an issue for me, as the Cultural Armor obtainable in PvE requires you to use them too if you want them to have the right stats, so that wouldn’t change much. Needless to say it would be even nicer if it wasn’t needed, but well ArenaNet needs to pay bills too. :P

PvP Cultural Armor and Emperor title?

in PvP

Posted by: Renske.6178

Renske.6178

Does the cultural armor you can buy for glory+gold in the Heart of the Mists count toward the “Emperor” achievement? I’d like to get a T3 set, as I have enough glory/gold and with glory disappearing it seems like a nice trade.

However if they don’t count towards the achievement I won’t get a set from the glory vendor, since I don’t want to have to buy the set twice to make the achievement progress.

Also, are the skins only usuable in PvP or will they become usable in PvE too? Then I could use some in PvP and others that don’t fit my PvP look in PvE.

Cultural Armour Glow Compendium - Completed!

Renske.6178

Thank you Kristen for the information! Good luck on working on it!

I’m especially happy that using a dark dye will (partially) remove the glowing effect. Because right now black/dark parts of the armor would glow up a bit white at night which made them very washed out and dull looking because the result would be some grey ish color. If they were to stay dark if dyed dark that would totally solve my problem!

My dyes have changed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Renske.6178

Renske.6178

Seems like the changes were made with the best of intentions. That said, perhaps a switch could be added so that dye reverts to its old behavior? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and apparently these changes won’t please everyone; and yes, some of the dyes out there are expensive.

I agree, it’s a very nice idea to let people have more glows and let them control it, but the fact that the way dyes are reacting to the armor changed with it is a bad surprise for many people. I have no doubt it was done with nice intentions and it’s great that Sylvari and their glow receive some tweaks and attention. I have no knowledge of rendering/creating things in games, but could it be possible to add a slot for the glow without affecting the existing dye channels or add a switch between the old/new way of handling dyes?

My dyes aren’t that expensive, but people who spent many gold on the colors that are just perfect for them and find them changed aren’t very happy, which I can understand.

I would love the option to switch back to the old style on my thief. Because on her, the new way of glowing and the way dyes are handled just doesn’t work out nicely. The screenshot shows how it changed her colors (the TA gloves are actually dyed differently so that’s not due to the patch).

Before I made use of the natural red-ish effects the T3 armor had, because I liked it and it fit with my style. With this patch that effect has been removed, surely it can be an improvement for other people, but personally I’m a bit disappointed that my colors changed because I really liked them as they were!

I really like it for the T1 light armor though, so for my other characters I’d like to keep the new effects, so a on/off button or some other workaround would be perfect!

I hope this issue won’t keep devs from working on the Sylvari though. This one turned out a bit badly for some of us but personally I greatly appreciate that our feedback and ideas are taken into consideration.

The voice is alright with me, but the some Guardian shouts are really bad. She says them as if she doesn’t give a grub about the fact that there’s a battle going on and it’s the first hour of a long monday at work. “Save Yourselves” being the worst, it sounds so bored and uninterested and it doesn’t fit the shout at all.

I agree the T2/T3 cultural is rather skimpy but there are tons of other options avaiable. The T1 is a lot better already, I don’t like the skirt/pants but the rest is awesome. You are not forced to wear cultural armor and if the skimpy parts bother you, you can always replace them with pieces from another set.

It would be nice to have more cultural armor options that cover the body a bit more, but nobody is forcing you to buy the T2/T3 sets. Lots of people also like armor that shows skin, because it shows their tattoos nicely. And let’s face it, the majority of players enjoys seeing some skin, especially if it’s females. So you can’t avoid having some skimpy sets in the game.

Just because there are armors that show some skin doesn’t mean your character has to look like that. Plenty of options to choose from. I don’t like too skimpy armor either, so I just go with the more covered looks.

Heavy T1 Male glows on the gem-shaped particles of the armor. (http://i.imgur.com/65P5W50.jpg) It’s not a great screenshot but it shows where it glows at least. :P The glowing part of the armor can be dyed, I dyed it in a very light blue so it shows up white. I assume it works best when using light colors.

Medium T1 Male/Female glows but only for the chestpiece, I believe. The female version glows on the tiny berry/round shaped things attached to her armor and the patterned part of the arms. I’m not sure if the tips of the leaves on the skirt glow, too. I’ll have to check that, I still have the T1 chestpiece somewhere in my bank!

The male medium T1 seems to glow on the middle part of the armor, a bit lower than the chest. The upper part of the sleeves seems to glow too. Again, bad quality, it’s not my character so I don’t have many screens where it’s nighttime. :P But the white parts show where it glows a bit: (http://i.imgur.com/31CgeWa.jpg) It’s not a strong glow, when he had his amor dyed black it barely showed up.

Medium T2 female sadly doesn’t truly glow but seems to retain some kind of brightness in dark environments, as it doesn’t get as dark as other armors. It doesn’t pulse-glow, but it feels like it has some kind of permanent subtle glow when it’s dark. I wear a combination of T1, TA and T2 on my thief and when I’m in dark environments the T2 pieces stay way more vibrant in color. Something similar happens to the TA light armor, it always seems brighter than the rest.

That’s it for the armors I know! I’ll try to come up with better screens later.

Still uncontested, just checked it.

When guesting you have to actually travel to the map before it shows as uncontested for you. Looks it does not always automatically update for whatever reason when guesting (bug? new bug?)

Then I failed really hard, I got flooded by Risen when I relogged there, but then I think I forgot to re-guest when relogging, I changed between so many characters to get the aprropriate karma on all of them. ><

Thanks it was still uncontested right now, got all my shards and armor/jewelry.

It depends a bit on your weapon. Greatsword and Hammer for example lift your ears, but not as much as other weapons do. :P Also, if you have bigger ears it will be more noticable.

However, I believe all one handed weapons put your ears up fully. Rifles lift them a lot also, I don’t know about the bows though.

It’s really inaccurate indeed. ‘Save yourselves’ and ‘Retreat’ seem to work pretty much all the time, but ‘Hold the line’ and ‘Stand your ground’ are usually silent shouts, haha.

As for the tomes, most of my party members were like ‘Who the hell is screaming ’receive the light’ over and over?’ so those sound effect can definitely be heard by your party members. Would be great if they could not pop the sound effect every time you use the first skill indeed, it’s only spammed for at max 30 seconds, but still fairly annoying.

Thanks for the tip of only muting GW2 through windows, I didn’t think about that yet. Normally I would just turn my full sound system off and also be cut off Skype and all, but this makes things easier!

I totally agree with you. I play a Sylvari female thief and the sound she makes when she gets hit is annoying me as well. It doesn’t fit the voice for female Sylvaris at all and the sound on itself is ridiculous and repetitive, it’s like it plays every time when you get hit.

At first I didn’t even know it was supposed to be a sound the character makes, it indeed sounds like a dog and I always thought it belonged to the Nightmare Court wolves. It’s horrible!
