well, I’m out, already uninstalled so I don’t login and torture myself on a daily basis.
All I wanted was interesting updates anet. Gameplay comes before story, especially on an MMO.
This focus on living world really really killed this game for me and a lot of people.
If at least guilds actively controlled the living world with their decisions and through challenges, but no, in an MMO with millions of people playing we get to sit through a single player story made by the devs
>There should also be the next feature patch at the end of July. They said they would do LS every 2-4 weeks and a feature patch every ~4 months.
>There should
>should
here is another problem, we have no idea what to expect for this game. This is why it is on a hope-basis for most of us. Compare to something like WoW for example, you KNOW every year or so there will be a whole new continent, new classes, new skills…
We know nothing here
>the real deal breaker for me is a feature that would allows us to store multiple gear and trait builds. I have been waiting on this for so, so long now.
Same, been asking this for months. Swapping sets all the time is so annoying, especially the trinkets
Ummm this is a LS patch… there will be no features introduced in this patch.
Features come in Feature patches… hence the name…
So if you are expecting anything that isn’t story, events and maps then you have the wrong expectations.
uninstall.exe for me
A shame, this game had so much potential. Combat system is fun, polished graphics, great artstyle, fun town items. Just needed a team that cared about gameplay behind it, and not just story and gem store items
All classes can be healer in this game, I think they should all have healer weapons to choose and all have equal in strength healing builds. Things like elementalist and necro can focus more on direct healing/life transfer, while other classes like thief or mesmer apply mostly regen, and some others like guardian/ranger in between
There´s no excuse to let all classes have plenty of healing builds to make, it´s how the game was designed
>but I can log in / log out whenever I want to.
It´s not the same thing though, playing an MMO while not being invested on it sucks. If you don’t do living world with other people, you’ll be missing on it. Might as well go with another game and give your full attention to it
Tengu monk would be cool
tengu martial artist monk? or tengu healer monk.
I am 100% behind tengu martial artist monk
Probably both, some weapons heal, others buff. It would be like a ranged light armor guardian
I wish for much but I expect they will implement nothing.
my prediction:
- tooltips of various kittens now use the correct verb to better display the current state
- new shiny awesome weapons for 10 lion tickets
- new armors for 800 gems (light, medium, heavy)
- 5 new awesome minis who all use the same model but have different shaders
- 2 new fuzzy hats (rabbit and moa)
- Bartender outfit
- new colours: something blue, something dark blue, something light blue, something something blue
- Boss in asuranfalls has a new name and isn’t stuck anymore. Also he is happy
- engineer autoattacks now deal no dmg anymore (because it was op). Warrior healsignet buffed.
- pirate runes now spawn 2 birds
And this is why I can’t take this game anymore. 2 years of mostly this and almost no really exciting news, can’t handle that anymore
Tengu monk would be cool
I’m wondering how many other people are in the same boat as me right now. I almost quit GW2 a while ago, but the features patch restored me faith that this game will receive meaningful updates.
Now, with this patch, if I don’t get a scent of what I am look for it´s over for me. I can’t pour more time (meaning, keeping up with living world. Even if it´s permanent now I’d like to do it when everyone else would be doing it) in a game that I have no faith will go in the direction I was hoping, even if I loved most of the time I’ve played it. So, if you feel like me and this patch is all or nothing for you, what were you expecting?
I’m expecting anything that is related to serious build customization (not just trait rework or one new skill): new class, lots of new skills, new weapons, perhaps customizable weapon skills, meaningful new features like GvG. I don’t care about traditionally speaking content (new story, maps and events)
What are you expecting?
(edited by Revler.2359)
Or make all classes be able to equip all weapons, which is how this game should be anyway
It shouldn’t simply save builds. It should also load a pre-set gear you have equipped for that build.
Also, we should be able to keep different gear sets already equipped on different gear-set slots. Carrying all our ascended stuff on the inventory is a mess, it is prone to selling by accident even if you use invisible bags, and equipping all trinkets on and off all the time is also annoying
So, plan for a system that takes care of all these issues
edit: the reply from the dev actually says it should take in account gear as well. Hopefully it wont simply mean loading gear from the inventory, but that´s a start. With armor is not so bad, but weapons are because sometimes you equip a two handed weapon and then your one handed weapon is placed on a non invisible bag
I don’t understand the crying over this.
New players should experience past Living World for free. You should not pay to unlock single player story on an MMO.
At least it’s free for those that actively play.
In other words, it is an obstacle for getting new players.
Tell your friend “if you played gw2 from the start you’d have all that for free”. He is being punished for joining the game late, so might as well not join it at all.
If I wanted to try wildstar 1 year from now, and people told me I’d have to pay real money to unlock STORY and some challenges, personally I would not even bother playing the game. This would be my reaction: http://youtu.be/kmMhzaF7puM
but how is this any different from most other games on the market that charge for DLC?
Many people consider DLC to be cancer. Instead of devs making exciting expansions that really expand on the original game, they make tiny things that are overpriced.
And this is now an MMO who is charging DLC for what will be almost single player content for players who are doing Living World for the first time a year from now.
Or you could tell the friend to look up the story on the wiki if they really want to know. If they want the reward from old living stories, they’d have to pay with gems.
Like I said, horrible marketing.
“Hey friend come play gw2 with me. But you’ll either have to spend a lot of money to be updated on the story or read all this stuff”.
He will go play something else. Nobody who isn’t already invested in GW2 will care to buy or read about the past chapters. It will prevent new players from joining
When did they start charging gems for living world?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-story-journal/?utm_source=client
“Past episodes will be available for purchase for 200 gems. (Don’t forget you can earn gold and purchase gems to unlock the episode for your account)”
So basically, if you want to invite a friend to GW2 a year from now, he’ll have to spend a lot of money to get updated on the living world
“H-hey friend, want to play GW2? It´s Great!! Come play with me. B-but you’ll have to spend 120 dollars just to go through some history so you understand the new story made by the devs”
Who would join this game knowing this beforehand? They’ll just go to another MMO to avoid this obstacle. This is terrible marketing.
Please don’t move this to the Living World forum, because this doesn’t have to do directly with it. This has to do with Arena Net´s/NCsoft’s overall business decisions and why in cases such as this you are only hurting your own brand names.
Taking something that you are using apparently all your resources on and make it cost a LOT of gems for players who would like to play GW2 1 year or 2 years from now to unlock is a terrible idea, because it will only prevent us from bringing new players to the game.
These players would like to experience the living world to understand the story, and nobody will do that when it costs ridiculous amounts of real money just to get started for more story (which is not THAT exciting to most players), and in the other hand not being able to experience it would be a reason not to play this game.
And worse of it all, you are charging money like it was an expansion to something that ISN’T an expansion. You only add story and some challenges, but not new character progression, no new races, no new nothing. This is overcharging for a product that isn’t that great, yet people are expected to play it to enjoy the future Living World stories.
You are shooting yourselves in the foot with this decision, in the long term it is making players lose hope on anet business decisions.
What happened to gems being for cosmetic things only?
I don’t know how this suggestion sits with people more experienced than me in sPvP, I only recently started playing it, but to me the 3 control points with 5 people is not working well overall.
My suggestions would be to:
1) A team can only score points when it has at least two active control points. This would have two great benefits:
1.1) A team that is losing, or was unbalanced or had players that quit and are lagging behind in points can completely turn the game back around even if the other team was about to win by holding two points, essentially making the other team not score from control points at all.
1.2) People would actually sit and defend, instead of just run around in a poorly organized fashion to hold 3 points.
2) Holding a third point would award more score, but would also make you more vulnerable to losing two control points yourself – which now awards no points at all, so it´s a more significant choice than the current dynamic right now of swaping control points non stop.
Their job is to give us more character customization AND balance at the same time.
We don’t have to settle for them having a hard time balancing over 2 years and therefore not giving us new customization.
I doubt anyone cars if they have to be a specific race to be a certain class.
Are you kidding me? There is nothing more annoying than having to pick a race you don’t want to be class you want;
Are you kidding? Your suggestion is for us to go back to something bad?
1) Hoping anet will improve this game with real content, and also with some new very creative concepts. The game on release day was excellent, we had jumping puzzles, no trinity, a % completion meter to all areas. All new things that made this game feel creative. Now I’m waiting for new classes/races/skills/skill slots/balance 15vs15 pvp/GvG and whatever new inventive thing anet will come up with. Personally I’d like if guild would be able to conquest things through the living world and shape the world by their decisions at the detriment of what other guilds would want, because they played better;
2) Tried a necromancer since i never enjoy sPvP, i like it now with him. So for now i log in to finish equiping him with ascended gear and to pvp
3) I don’t have a third reason. Time to update this game anet.
agree, fix this crap already
First MMO I ever played that punishes people for interacting. There´s a report button for spammers and an ignore option, that´s more than enough
And how would we know what these ‘big’ Guilds are doing? Letters in the mail? I’m confused about your concept. And how it would impact me. Are you saying the content would only be available for these ‘big’ Guilds? If not, what is my small Guild doing while they do whatever it is they do?
A very silly but functional example: the new Living world chapter has a treasure hunt for some new sort of ore found in some new map. That includes wandering around and finding them on hidden places, attacking caravans/enemies that require great deal of coordination and a decent amount of people (perhaps instanced so each guild is tested individually), and so on. Maybe in the final days, there is a GvG event a few times related to gaining access to some place that can process this ore.
Everyone can participate in it, and everyone can gain rewards associated to it. But, the overall guild that does it best in the server or globally, gets to have a stand in all major cities that will sell that ore to other players for a while.
Then it´s just a matter of taking a concept like this to a bigger scale, influencing a lot more in the world and finding ways to make GvG contests (whether direclty PvP or not) more balanced and interesting
Ever since GW1 Anet has focused on the single player being a key component to the changing world around them. For them to shift completely over to guilds as a whole would be a bit too big of a step at this moment
Just like every other MMO out there, and why most people think they are a wasted potential to just make a single player game online.
We have three upcoming MMOs at least now that will focus heavily on player driven story (one in space, and two medieval), where players can conquer, build and destroy things. Anet should go with times and push forward MMOs as player driven stories in my opinion, and leave the fully single player paradigm behind.
All guilds could participate in the challenges, the most coordinated ones would win. Ideally, not all the challenges available, but the one they dedicated their time the most.
That would inspire other guilds to compete and grow as well, it just makes things more interesting. The top guilds in gw2 should have e-celebrity status, everybody in the game needs to hear about them.
There are so many ways then the Living World could give power to the guilds, even to dramatic things. A guild that completed a tough challenge could get some famous NPC as hostage and decide their fate, including perhaps execution.
That would be interesting living world and would keep people eyes wide open in front of their computer waiting for things to unfold
Edit: also, I never said that the content would be exclusive/non exclusive to a guild. All I said is that the consequences would be exclusive to one. If you are gonna post, use arguments and explain your position instead of just saying a one liner like people will have any clue what you are really trying to say, that´s a pretty toxic thing to do pun intended
It should not be 100% about developer-made story.
We need that of course, to extend the lore of the game, but this is an MMO. Not a single player game. You cannot make a meaningful story in this game as you can in a single player game, where it really captivates the player on a personal level. Here, everyone experiences the same thing and everyone is the hero, the effect of the narrative is not as powerful.
50% of the Living world should be about the developer-made content, but the other 50% should be about players dictating the course of history – most importantly, the guilds.
The living world should be granting guilds positions of power, making them struggle against each other with combat, politics (influencing players), getting votes, conquering temporary (but not so temporary) things and so on. Voting for kiel vs gnash was on the right path – but it was too little. Voting is not enough. Bring guild wars back to Guild Wars.
MMOs have been corrupted into becoming glorified level up/get loot but online games, and they make absolutely NO use of the multiplayer features they actually have. Playing a single player game together isn’t enough, give us players dominance over the board of the game.
Make it happen anet
Living Story killed this game. They wasted all those resources on temporary content and gem store items, when they could’ve used it for permanent updates and full armor sets, which could’ve been obtainable in game.
I agree partially. Temporary content is bad yes, but the LS system itself is not necessarily bad, although I don’t think is particular good either. Let´s see what they do with LS2, maybe they can make that players – and most importantly guilds – actually influence things now, that would make it more interesting.
But what killed this game for me is no new exciting things related to character progression (not in the sense of gear looks) and gameplay changes/improvements other than balance
fund it
I agree, the game has a very teen, unrealistic atmosphere, but apparently the content designers from GW1 all quit, so that is why the change in style
At least in gw1 it was a matter of going into a mission and fighting the enemy. You didn’t have to wait at some part of the mission wondering whether the boss would spawn or not
1) go to area where the challenge is to unlock a trait
2) cricket sounds
3) Sit there wondering how to activate the event, with no idea when or if you will actually fight what you need
4) sit there, run around looking for an npc that maybe would trigger it
5) nothing
6) wait more
7) go to town and buy it
This has been the case with all traits I tried to unlock that upon reaching the challenge area whatever I was supposed to do wasn’t there.
I wish anet didn’t try to hide event timers from players to give the fake illusion of “real, living breathing world” because that is obviously an illusion that dies as soon as you see an event happening for the second time.
Just give us an event interface that shows when an event will happen, or when (and where) we can activate them.
Yes, there are wikis but I refuse to waste my time looking for online information on these out of principle that this is bad game design to give a player a challenge he, within the game, has no feedback of how to do it. Running around trying to discover how to is not good game design, is being a blind mouse in a labyrinth trying to find the exit. Sure, you can do it, maybe there´s even in merit that you tried to, but it´s not an intelligent challenge.
1. This LS will be more like a true expansion at least when it’s complete.
3. There will be a new race.
4. There will be a new profession(s)
UNLESS we are getting these this year I’m quitting this game.
I do not play an MMO for the dev made story. If I wanted that, I would play a single player game like Witcher since they exceed storytelling in a huge factor.
I do not play MMOs – or games for that matter – either for zerging around events in an uncoordinated fashion that nobody can truly control. I want to be given a fair challenge in games and play with people who are serious about beating them.
We need more content tailored for small groups of people (dungeons, Guild vs guild, deathmatch arena) and more gameplay options/customization options (classes, weapons, races, new skill slots) since these are the heart of an MMO, instead of only having zerg vs zergs, be pve or pvp as we mostly have right now.
I have bought more gems than I should for flutes and whatevers in a game that has been almost 2 years without new character progression or new customization.
I was just talking about this in another thread, specifically the fact that I got burned out on the Living Story in July and August last year
Me too, I was actually stressed from it, because when I had free time I had no option but to make sure I got the meta and the rewards, and also saw the story
I don’t know about Achievements, but the content is reportedly permanent.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Start-July-1st/first#post4068257
Wow I wasn’t aware of this. This is a huge step in the right direction. I hope by “content” they don’t just mean the skins and what not, but actually doing the achievements.
They were wasting too many resources on temporary content, not a good move for an MMO in my opinion. Now I’m curious to see how will it be handled this time
It would be nice if they kept all Achievements for a Living Story season (the whole year) active, instead of removing them to add a new one. Then you’d have plenty of time to do them.
Would be a perfect compromise in my opinion. Not even a compromise, just don’t delete the stuff
>Considering LS content will be permanent now
You mean I can wait 5 years to do the meta achievement and get the reward, and talk to all npcs related to it?
Source?
I don’t like the megaserver at all. It is better than what we had, with empty zones, but I would like a system where users can instead select from a list of districts like:
>Tarnished Coast (your server district)
>District 1 (93% full)
>District 2(83% full)
>District .. 23 (15% full)
And also gives us the option of what sort of district we want to automatically be assigned: server, high pop, low pop
This thread is to remind developers that there were many people unhappy with how often Living World was being updated (usually bi-weekly), for numerous reasons like:
>People barely had the time to finish the meta achievement
>Most of the time used playing GW2 had to be dedicated to Living World if you didn’t want to miss content, making impossible to actually play other aspects of the game
>For the reasons above, not only it felt like a chore for many people, but also it ‘trapped’ us into having to play because the content is temporary even in days when we didn’t feel like playing. Living world being too frequently forced us to play GW2 more than if it was an MMO with a monthly sub.
For those reasons, and whatever other reasons people have, we’d like to ask that LW is kept on a monthly update only basis. Also, it is important that we always know exactly when the current LW will end and that we are no longer kept in the dark, so we can plan to play it accordingly.
2014: Why aren’t people reading about games before they buy them?
Did anet say they had no plans to introduce new skills, new weapons and new classes ever when they released Guild Wars 2?
Honestly, 1 year without serious new character progression or at least new classes is a lot for an MMO.
I really liked leveling up on this game, because that was all about unlocking skills, learning your character and testing him against enemies solo while you cleared areas or in dungeons. Leveling up in GW2 is a 10/10 to all classes I raised to 80, after that even if we had new dungeons and new whatevers to do all the time it simply wouldn’t be as fun because character customization halts by the time you reach 80.
I’m doing my best to keep enjoying this game, raising a Necromancer now, but I really hope anet can give us an ‘expansion-like’ content that was just as original and creative as the vanilla game and that got us hooked
You are right, you can still use charm/ferocity/dignity in conversations, but it doesn’t show in your character anymore
Honestly, that wasn’t a really great system anyway, it was kinda limiting player dialogue and wasn’t used for anything else.
What character personality feature?
I played since day one (not during beta), but not sure what you are referring to
Whenever I see a thread like this, I think of a child desperately trying to get their parent’s attention by threatening to withdraw their love. It’s narcissistic, it’s indulgent. It’s boring. Every MMO in existence has a flood of these threads. GW1 certainly had them. At first I found them baffling. Now they’re just sad.
As a game developer, everytime I see one of these threads I think “someone tried to enjoy my game and had hopes for it, but he didn’t like it in the end and is letting me know why he quit. I should read what he said to get feedback and determine whether the person is really not the target audience of my game, or it was I who failed him.”
Hopefully anet is like me.
I read your complaint that they havent “added” to professions and stopped reading. One of the chief problems with GW1 was that they continually added skills, it was a balancing nightmare and they were doing MASSIVE balance patches 5 years into the game.
That is solely because guild wars 1 had a system where it was completely free to choose the skills and you could even multiclass.
GW2 is a lot more straightforward to balance since devs can easily test all weapon combinations of a class.
PTR would be nice, at least we would get information on upcoming patches sooner
Vertical progression doesn’t need to mean better gear Paddy. I also don’t want a carrot on a stick game for stronger gear, stop at ascended and it´s fine.
But it can mean having new skill slots that would unlock for new characters somewhere along the lines, out-of-combat skills that you can gain (like a travel skill), and so on.
But if you’re looking for a job required to do ‘xyz’ just to progress your hero
As my post clearly states I, and a lot of people, are looking for more character customization. That can be new weapons, new skills, talents to a lesser degree, more skill slots or anything else anet comes up with that gives us more options.
