“World versus World (also known as WvW) is a Player versus Player game mode where players from three different servers, or worlds, battle in the Mists. It features open-world combat on five large maps with up to several hundreds of players per map.

Sounds good in theory, but there can’t be a “real” WvW-Mode with guilds in it. Most players who join “dedicated gvg” – guilds don’t get the concept of WvW. They won’t care for the server, will transfer to the next hype server and stand idle/unproductive at the spawn while their commander takes a dump. The result is a toxic/broken/dead game mode … just like we have for some years now. You can’t have “one team” with a ton of sub-teams blaming each other.

Disable guild features while in WvW and create a new gvg game mode kitten . It’s about time. But i guess that would ruin the income from server hopping guilds … :p

Pros:
- The new Revenant class is fun
- Gliding is a lot of fun
- The new “vertical” maps are nice too

Cons:
- It’s just 3(,5) maps, so not that much to explore
- Masteries were a total grind at release, maybe that has been fixed meanwhile.
- All in all the concept of the maps is similar to the silverwastes. Zerging, zerging, zerging …

Personally i just went there at the start to get all hero points (as long as there were enough players to get them) with all toons and to do some exploration and personal story. But that’s far from enough to get all masteries, so there’s no real alternative to grinding (unlike the base game where you could craft, do wvw, or just explore map after map to get to 80) … that’s why i left the jungle.

Keep in mind though, you’ll need HoT for new living story chapters. And LS3 is neat.

Just ignore the adds or kill some really quick and focus on the Justicar. Your allies are actually somewhat competent in this instance.

What? Canach and Marjory were staring at a wall without joining the fight and Rytlock was … well, “trying” to beat one of those archers. When he got him down, it was about respawn time so he started again. Once in a while Rytlock would lose, kneel down and regenerate. Fun to watch though.

The mechanics are easy, but all in all the instance is rather tedious. But hey, maybe those NPCs will fight with the next char …

Yeah, Rytlock dies almost during every chak wave … that’s just silly. And this happened with 4 of my characters so far.

And why do i have to carry a bunch of NPCs through story instances when all they do is stand next to an enemy … yes, just standing around. Even when they get hit by them they won’t fight back. I guess it’s time for peace in Tyria!
That confessors fortress was a “solo show”. Soooooooo much fun and very ‘fast’ accomplished! :p

EDIT: Another thing that, honestly, bothered me about the chapter/whatever you want to call it, is that your toon says that Eir died “in battle”, or something to that effect, which bothered me because I clearly remember her death and she did not go down fighting or doing anything honorable. She tried to escape the Vinetooth, then Faolain stabbed her and before she knew it, she was impaled by the Mordrem and died without a whimper. I understand if she was injured and starved, but it was the most pathetic way to kill off such an iconic character, and many things said during the memorial felt like lies to me… I know that’s harsh, but it is my opinion. =(

Let’s see:
- She didn’t try to escape, they were on their way to reposition with the rest of the group.
- She could have moved along but stopped to help Faolain.
- She was betrayed and stabbed by Faolain.
- She got her revenge on Faolain.
- She turned around and faced the vinetooth, despite being defenseless.

GW2 WvW...what's the point?

Case in point the grassroots GVG scene that was really popular 18 months ago, that Anet went out of their way to kill off/ignore. This was at a time when participation in sPVP (Player vs Point) was basically non-existent. I used to work in a major game company, I can tell you with certainty that other game companies would kill to have a grassroots competitive scene spring up in one of their games and they would have fostered the kitten out of it.

This is so true IIRC the twitch viewing numbers of major GvGs at the time significantly outstripped viewing numbers for official spvp competitions. Anet just had (and continue to have) their head in the sand.

FYI: (Most) Guilds/GvGs destroyed WvW. Most ‘real’ WvW players who understood the game mode, stuck to their server and tried to play as a team got sick of WTJ-guilds who stood around doing nothing for 2 hours for 15 minutes of GvG. Lot of forum threads prove this and the map chat at that time was pretty obvious too. So after all, the game mode became rather toxic.

Those self proclaimed ‘pro’ guilds were also involved in the development process of the desert borderlands, which are deserted.

ANet failed to create a GvG mode outside of WvW. Though i doubt many guilds would have used it (see obsidian sanctum). Since most of their accomplishments were fighting ppl without voice-com.

With 15k badges I’m sure his rank is high enough and they did remove the merchant for everyone less than 48 hours ago.

How can you be sure? Everyone gets a kittenload of Badges for free from achievement chests and even some from dungeon runs. Without doing WvW at all. Wonder if the name of that gift is misleading?! :p

Get a build and join a zerg and have fun! Wvw is the most fun part of the game.

That’s crap. I already posted in the other thread, but like I said there, I’ve earned over 1,500 badges YEARS ago, almost EXCLUSIVELY from playing solo. Following a blue dot and hitting 1 may be fun to you, but a lot of us don’t feel the same way. Playing solo, it would take a hell of a long time to get something I feel I am entitled to. The only reason I didn’t already buy the gift was because it would be a waste of inventory space. Now, just because of that, I have to go back and redo everything?

Sounds like even more crap. And after posting the same crap in multiple threads it’s still crap.

You got 1500 Badges years ago? So after that it took you years to be able to think about your legendary? And all those years of pressing 1 while running in a Zerg in silverwastes/hots-maps … must have been a lot of fun, no?! Reward tracks are a looooot faster than the PvE-crap you’ve got to do for a legendary.

Besides that, those Badges where always a joke. Useless for WvW (why bother for the gift of battle whitout a way to get the other stuff in a sane time in wvw; you can’t even sell that crap gift; there once was (or still is) even armor that can’t be salvaged, lol), much to easy to get (there was (or still is) even a time where you got free badges from level-up/achievement-points chest … lol, without even being once in wvw you got everything for that gift. ridiculous) and now finally gone. Sadly the new badges sound like a joke too.

Best solution would be to make that gift tradeable, so wvw-players could finally get some money in wvw. And as it seems, people like Shanks R Us are having a great time farming gold for years on some pve-map. Win-Win then?

Guild alliances are the main driver for WvW success. Why not scrap the concept of servers. It would also give the leaders an accurate view of the population that is playing based on the guild stats.

…..earning mastery levels/points and hero points in the new area isn’t just a given like in the base game….it is a reward for being a semi-competent player. it feels the exact opposite of a grind…its the exact opposite of mindless repetition.

LOL, seriously? Getting to the Hero/Mastery Points is done pretty quick. You even get 10 instead of just one. Getting mastery experience on the other side, is the most stupid grind in GW2 so far. The base game at least had “heart”-quests (though not in lvl 80 regions) or switching to another zone as an alternative to doing the same stupid event over and over again. So far leveling is a no-brainer for incompetent players.

Sorry to look a little rude but be aware that pve skill reqirement is the level 0 on the skill meter in gw2.

We’re talking here about ppl who (obviously, otherwise they would stop whining) needed the old stab to kill unorganized “randoms/publics” in wvw … that pretty much equals level 0.

That’s normal when this bug occurs, you always get the stomp option. But actually it’s super rare that this bug occurs, so

They just ignore it, heal until they can get up, and run.

sounds like it happened all the time with those guys. But nevertheless, you should have just reported them.

On a side note: Kodash players are usually the first to cry about hacks and/or bugs in the german forum, so it’s pretty fun to read all that “don’t blame a whole guild/server” – stuff from exactly the same people. :p

On the fairness of roamers

roaming is, in essence, the art of avoiding fights you will lose and pursuing fights you will win.

seeking fairness is pointless since a 1vs1 where both parties have stat equilibrium will happen just about never.

Speak for yourself. For me it’s the art of finding good fights. Good meaning challenging. So I’ll generally leave uplevels alone and obvious zergers like staff eles.

Your 2nd claim is only true after bloodlust and one of the reasons I don’t WvW anymore.

Also, most 1v1s are boring, until recently my build was optimized for 1vX rather than 1v1. I would rather push my limits with 1v2s, 1v3s, even 1v4s, 2vx etc… while dying most of the time. But ok that’s my idea of fun.

Pushing your limits versus X, not so obvious (but still zerger builds), and avoiding challenging 1vs1 builds (sPvP) —→ Check.

Yes, stealth always fully restores thieves’ health and they do not have to use 30 points into a completely defensive traitline to achieve some kind of survivability that enables to beat skilled players.

Also thieves are immune to 4 second stuns on 7second cd and survive 5 eviscerates and 3 full 100b without any effort.
This is truely a noobclass and I hope they delete all thieves and make them use warriors and necros instead.
Baddies unable to deal with stealthing thieves, for more than 1 year.

Beyond irony, it is a fact that the thief in spvp has been nerfed, while in WvWvW there were no interventions. So we have two choices:

1) the thief spvp is useless (LOL);
2) the thief WvWvW is unbalanced.

Obviously the thief in the zerg is useless, but the majority of the thieves does not play with the zerg. And yes, you can say whatever you want, but if in spvp (with an hard cap on the stat) they have nerfed c&d and increased the reveled debuff, it is quite absurd to say that the thief in WvWvW is balanced.

Thief is broken for a year now, some players are ashamed of how easy the class can be played while others really seem to think it’s hard. – But for sure Anet doesn’t seem to fix it, so what?

But why all the hostility. GvG’ers and PPT players don’t have conflicting goals at all — each group can just pretend the other group isn’t there — UNLESS it’s a queue issue. But if it’s a queue issue, why don’t the GvG people just transfer to the queue-less lower tiers?

People who GvG also WvW, usually looking for a large zerg to go kill. Those zergs only exist in tiers 1-2, and maybe sometimes in tier 3. If you put even a mediocre GvG guild in a tier 4 or lower server, they would just roflstomp anything in their way and end up PvDooring an entire BL because the lower tier servers offer no comparable competition.

Read again. When all (pretending) GvG guilds transfer to lower tiers, there WILL be more than enough competition. Every low tier server will be full of guilds. You could even ignore all buildings, so the matchup ends in a draw and all servers stay “low”. Tho the matchup system would screw that up anyway.

This is not about GvG only, it’s for everyone that prefers fair combat, think of all the solo roamers.

Roamers benefit from the buff, fair fights are not intended in WvW.

It’s substantially less satisfying to beat someone when you have an advantage that they can’t get.

Roaming in WvW is and will never be “fair”. And don’t pretend that this playstyle focuses on fair and even combats. Most of the time it’s the opposite … attack from behind, when low on health, jump solo roamers with a small group, camp a spawn point or something like that. And that’s how it’s supposed to be. sPvP is for “fair” competition.

I do not say you have to quit, I just say you need to find another game for this type of open world ‘playstyle’ This is WvW, and it stays WvW.

So you say we have to leave Guild Wars 2 , because we want it to play our way?
That’s not only ignorant but straight forward dumb…
Guess how WvW looks without all those Guilds doing GvGs and daily WvW Raids?
The overall level of play would be sinking to the lowest lows imaginable- Zerging would be the only option left. ( Or sitting in Towers)
Lets be realistic here: Without those competetive guilds WvW would be just an empty place with a few guys throwing cows at each other with trebs

Sadly running within a guild blob requires not much more skill than the so-called “zerging randoms” you seem to like so much. Heck, you even get told what to do. Most of what you think is “your skill” can be explained by the use of voice com. But well, dream on.

So let’s be realistic here. Without those GvG-Hypers, there won’t be a great difference at all. “Randoms” are the majority of the WvW population. So … what? A minority is interested in GvG so stop expecting special treatment. Most people are either interested in single/smallscale roaming (that’s the only competitive playstyle that requires some skill), siege or zerging.

Anet should introduce a GvG mode and a GvG map, but NOT within WvW.

You can’t complain about the problem when you’re the reason for the problem….

Best post so far in this thread.

There are simple solutions for the problems:
a) anet introduces gvg arenas, for those guilds who are really interested in pvp.
b) stop the random matchmaking system, which puts high tier servers against low tier servers, ‘cause from the low tier servers point of view any group from the other server will always be a blob.
c) all guilds who still think wvw is only about either farming pugs (with no voice com most of the time) or whining because those pugs start to build blobs just quit the game. i doubt you’ll be missed.
d) all (pretending) “gvg-guilds” transfer to low wvw-pop servers, ignore the siege part and fight each other while roaming between towers and keeps.
e) increase mapsize slightly.
f) debuff/dot when more than 10 people from the same team are close to each other. though just on open field, would be hard to siege with 10

i’d favor the combination of a), b) & f). :p

If you read my post, I clearly state that when our servers have equal numbers in the lakes, AG outperforms RS pointswise. This has been proven for many weeks during the multiple matchups which our servers have unfortunately shared.

Nope, or maybe just in your childhood dreams. Stating something like that is pretty hilarious, as any WvW-Player knows “numbers win a matchup, nothing else”. Sad but true. Some weeks/months ago AG outblobbed and outnumbered RS most of the time, that’s it. Meanwhile you lost the usual WTJ’s and the tides turned. And for sure you are much worse losers than RS ever was.

Maybe you should care less for your diminishing kill/death ratio and have more FUN, huh?

Reading this thread the first thing coming to your mind is “… and to hear the lamentation of their women.” Especially PS! GH is the victim of the new silly matchup system. Just like Arborstone.

Though under the week, PS usually outnumbers all during off-peak time, so i guess their lamentation might cease soon.

Btw. looks like more “organized single guild” gildenzerg’s are on their way!

Has it ever occured to anyone that Anet actually made this matchup on purpose to try to lure Riverside out of their keeps and have some fun with the rest of us?

I mean its pretty obvious. If you want to lure someone out, you need easy bait.

Maybe both Piken and Gunnar should just take off all armour and /dance naked in front of Riverside keeps to play like Anet intended us to play?

Luckily you already play like intented.

Makes it much easier at other map locations that so few can force you to withdraw. Keep up the good work, Dawdler.

Try to explain me another thing.
The “blob up to have a chance against guilds” thing i can unterstand at least a little bit.
But what about chasing our group of 5-10ppl with your whole zerg from one end of the map to the other?
Never met a server like this.

Don’t be a hypocrite. In our matchups we always faced servers who’d need a whole (guild) zerg to chase a SINGLE player across the whole map. Though maybe they were scared when it’s more than one to chase and you didn’t noticed so far … :p

At least AM knows how to attack supply camps without using a whole guild, i haven’t seen that vs AG for sure. They always needed 25+ people for a kitten suply camp on the enemy BL. Talk about effective.

So you saw the AG blobs.

Ag runs in group of 25-30 sometimes a bit higher, but every guild group can’t really bring more than that, and we don’t stack up guild group together we have separate raid/events/whatever.

Oh wait, you didn’t?

And the same old story once again. No, most of the time AG is just a big running blob like any other server too. Your guild zergs, when seen alone (and alone is not that often), outnumber most enemy guild groups by 2:1 or 3:1. So wondering why some guilds team up with others is … well, funny at least. Now i could ask you the same: “Why don’t you split your guild blobs? Ain’t it boring to win just because of bigger numbers?” But that’s pointless and i guess 5/6 weeks ago it wasn’t, huh? But now the WTJ’s left AG for the next easy win …

and this week when i played, everysingle time that our group lost is because a much bigger force just swarm us and we wiped

I have no doubt that 99% of the GW2 WvWvW players will answer the same when asked why their group wiped. This really seems to be a common problem.

Said that, that’s my experience, you maybe running in other groups that do different things.

… and still experience the same as you do.

Germans servers are really too point Obsessed/fixated… they use every trick in the book and I just don’t understand how they get any enjoyment from that style… (waypoint out of map to avoid a enemy half your numbers for example instead of fight)

Everyone else are fights/action orientated…

Typical TUP: Showing up and joining the zerg when the other server has outmanned buff, after FURY, NP and others fought (together!) against a not outmanned opponent.

Things like this for sure happen on all servers, but just one or two deny it.

I would love to hear a rational response from either Anet or anyone for that matter on how it makes any sense whatsoever to include WvW maps into the PvE map completion achievement.

Ok, this is an easy one. In fact, it’s so obvious that i’ve got to assume you’re just trolling. But well: Your servers performance in WvWvW gives you buffs on your PvE endeavours. Wether those are useful or not, WvWvW & PvE are OBVIOUSLY linked. Same character, equipment and COMBINED PvE dailies are further hints. sPvP on the other side, is completely separated (new char, equip, dailies, …). This was mentioned (more or less) already in this thread, so i assume you still won’t get it.

But seriously, stop whining, it won’t change a thing. You can’t expect to get something for “free”, while others “had” to do it. Though maybe ANet should decide to let the World Completion Achievement expire, this would also solve the problem. Won’t be unfair either, i’m sure there are lots of people who don’t have that silly halloween clocktower achievement. Also there was plenty of time to explore the WHOLE world.

People in RG were sick of the 100 man blobs and the stupid skill-lag it creates. That’s why we went to AR, because we want good fights.

So lets get this straight… A British guild (RG) has moved to a French realm cos theyre sick of the 100 man blobs.

If u had bothered to read any of the matchup threads from the past 4 or 5 weeks u will see that AR is famous for blobbing to epic proportions, usually around 80 man blobs is normal. Therefore either your research on AR was extremely bad or ur lying why u have moved to a high pop realm which is famous for blobbing.

To be fair RS had the largest blobs and thankfully they have dropped a tier.

RGs realm hopping looks more like they outstay their welcome to me…

And if you had bothered to actually participate on the battlefield, you would know by now, that in WvWvW only the biggest blob wins. So stop dreaming about piken running around in smale scale or other servers blobs being bigger.

No, we don’t. It’s also kinda naive to think the return of a single player changes anything in WvWvW. Especially with 2 borderland channels being almost deserted at prime time, hence randoms or guilds on their own TS doing all the work there.

Good score attracts more people, as simple as that.

WvW has nothing to do with being a better server, for now it’s just a matter of numbers (as RS can clearly shown, which is totally fine btw nothing wrong with that)

Check the screenshot below your post, you’re clearly outnumbered … weeee. :p You outmanned RS for some weeks now, hence the need for a defensive playstyle. Let’s see if that has changed.

Seriously, i need more backpack slots. Luckily there’s a merchant at AG hills.

Ermehgeeeerd!! That battle in Riverside borderlands at Hills was crazy!!! Really epic and long siege. Riverside truly has the best lord defensive i have ever seen. UNTY, good try at trying to get our small Gandara zerg, but you didn’t know [Dius] was waiting behind them incase! Later on, you guys wiped us from behind tho, when Riverside pushed out! Very epic and balanced matchup so far! Keep it up everyone!

That was really insane. Destroyed walls and gates everywhere. 2 enemy zergs made it through the inner walls but we kept it. Yay!
