AFKers The Plague

Rick.5781

As a Ranger I can sit AFK in a heavily farmed event spot, and know that when the event starts, my pet WILL tag an enemy, and give me credit for the event and it’s reward. I do this occasionally in Dry Top (next to the inquest race event), this way my pet can tag the race, haze, and the dust tornado. I don’t set any macros to use a heal or it anything, but it seems that with the pet attacking, people reviving you when you’re downed or dead, and the devourers fearing you, sometimes you can stay on for hours and get upwards of 10+ reward chests. I frequently see rangers that use the heal macro to stay logged in.

If there was an easier way to grind geodes, I’d do it, but the amount you need to buy all the ambrite weapon skins + the ridiculously low drop rate of fossilized insects, if I can AFK and still make progress, I will. Ultimately, me afking has an extremely low effect on the outcome of the events due to the amount of people that will be doing them anyways.

They could make it so keeps and towers give more world points the longer you hold them. So hold your keep for 1 hour and it rewards 20 points per tick, after the 2nd hour it rewards 25, after the fourth, 30, the 8th 35, etc. The amount it increases would be up to the devs, but it would put more of an emphasis on holding your own keeps, and taking out fortified keeps. Ive noticed that most commanders just bypass the fortified keeps and just keep flipping paper towers/keeps.

If it was placed on twitter or facebook, I guarantee many players would NOT hear about it, discard their blades, and then be royally kittened off. I don’t care that it’s in the patch notes, I’m just glad they told us, more importantly though, they should have told us about this 1-2 patches ago. Ive already destroyed over 2000 blades since I had nothing to do with them and my bank was getting full. If I had known there would be something to do with them I would have stashed them on alts.

The real problem is that you’ve lost out on 13 chances to get power cores. Those wont be reimbursed even if they gave you the 60 boxes. The boxes are pointless and just so you dont completely waste your time when they inevitably dont drop the power cores. ANet figures if they give you some crap, we will forget the fact that this entire game is based on dumb luck and RNG.

I posted this earlier in the thread but it seemed to have gotten ignored in the spam. For those of us that like having pets, I think allowing us more pet customization options would make many of us happy. If we are going to be forced to have 30% of our damage forced on us by pets, at least add depth and interest to the entire pet concept.

Specific Game Mode
PvX

Proposal Overview
Pets are supposed to be, and should be, something that we as rangers care about. The fact that pets don’t even keep their names, and most rangers don’t even bother to name them, shows how little most of us care or think about our pets. The entire pet concept is so raw that they’re completely uninteresting. I want to CARE about my pet, the way I care about my real life pets, but once charmed, you can essentially ignore the pet forever.

Goal of Proposal
Create more of a bond between ranger and pet by making each pet more unique and diverse to each ranger. Allow rangers to customize their pets looks, skills, and traits. Make them something that rangers want to show off and care about, just like our armor and weapons. Right now there is 0 time invested in a pet once charmed, allowing rangers to invest time in their pets will make them less generic and bland.

Proposal Functionality
Give each pet family its own skill, stat, and trait tree. Allow the rangers to level up each individual pet and choose their skills, basic stat allocation, and traits. Each pet family would still have basic strengths and weaknesses, so traiting a bear to DPS might not be as effective as traiting a wolf to DPS.

If at any point we are unhappy, we can choose to:
A) release the pet back into the wild and retame a new one. (The new pet could start at the lowest level and require new leveling or just start out at max level and require traiting.)
or
B) pay to retrait the pet just like we do to retrait ourselves.

Also allow rangers to customize the looks of their pets just like ourselves. Give us options to change their size, build, colors, fur patterns, tattoo designs, even give them pet equipment. It would really give the ranger flavor and make us somewhat envious to other classes.

Associated Risks
Would require lots of programming and there are still major flaws with the current pet AI.

Proposal Overview
Pets are supposed to be something that we as rangers should care about. Unfortunately, right now all we do is click to charm the pet one time, and then we proceed to completely ignore the pet for the remainder of its life except to swap it out. It becomes less of a focus to a ranger than his gear. The fact that pets don’t even keep their names, and most rangers don’t even bother to name them, shows how little most of us care or think about our pets. The entire pet concept is so raw that they’re completely uninteresting. Keeping the pet on passive in order to achieve an invulnerable pet also sacrifices all damage the pet is meant to contribute. Stowing the pet and boosting the ranger’s damage makes more sense.

And I would be ok with making the pet completely invulnerable and untargetable while in passive mode as well. This would remove the need for a permastow, though those that hate the pet mechanic entirely may not be pleased. I for one am not against pets, but wish they weren’t as useless as they are. Buffing their resistance to AoE, making them be able to attack WHILE moving, increasing their melee attack range, giving them cleave, having their stats scale with the ranger’s stats, allow F2 to be instant on pressing it, etc. would all help make the pet less useless and more viable. If however the pet CANNOT be made to be a viable option under the current system, I am also not against buffing the ranger’s damage, but I will miss some of the versatility my pet brought me in some RARE PvE scenarios.

Permastowing a pet really shouldn’t be the “solution” to clunky pet mechanics. The people who would prefer this over having the pet mechanics improved/reworked just shouldn’t play rangers, I guess.

That idea would actually be in lieu of a permastow. It would give Rangers a little more utility while not losing site of the concept of a Ranger.

Either way though, I don’t want this whole CDI to be able stowing the pets. There have been a lot of great ideas outside of this one that will help pets to be a more viable option. Perhaps just fixing some of the issues with the AI could be enough for people to feel better about the lack of permastow.

Having a way to remove the pet’s ability to be attacked and damaged until desired is a necessity in my opinion. It doesn’t have to physically disappear, as that wouldn’t make sense, but there needs a way to make it completely invulnerable and untargetable by enemies. Even reducing the damage received to 30% of AoE damage, I can’t foresee many of the pets surviving the Mai Trin bombardment phase. There also needs to be a way to prevent the pet from becoming the target of specific boss attacks like the Jade Maw. The pet literally IMPEDES progress against that boss, and there is NOTHING the ranger can do about it aside from stay out of combat entirely, which IMPEDES progress against the boss. A ranger literally causes the Jade Maw fight to become longer, or more difficult, and that should NEVER be the case.

Pet’s arent entirely useless, as they do provide some damage and utility. If the pet AI was fixed/improved, and there was no buff for permastowing the pet, most rangers would be gimping themselves by NOT having the pet out. There is no GAMEPLAY downside for allowing permastow in some form or another.

I know this has been mentioned already, but sometimes in tandem with adding a passive buff to ranger damage. I believe this is a required addition regardless of whether or not the ranger receives any sort of buff for doing it.

Specific Game Mode:
PvX (Specifically PvE)

Proposal Overview:
Add in a permanent stow option for pets. This option would be use-able in or out of combat, but the pet would either have decreased or be unable to regenerate health while stowed in combat.

Goal of Proposal:
Fix specific situations in which the pet becomes a burden on the player and/or it is impossible to maintain the pet alive. The option would also give the ranger a way to negate damage to the pet without being tied into the ranger’s dodge and thereby hindering our own ability to survive.

Proposal Functionality:
Change the F1 function to toggle the pet as attacking (aggressive) or following (passive). Change the F3 to a permanent stow option. This could have the pet either fully disappear, or change into an ethereal like version of the pet where it cannot be the target of, or take damage from, any enemy attacks or skills. This would allow the ranger to stow the pet during high AoE aspects of fights such as the Mai Trin bombardment phase (which it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep the pet alive), prevent the pet from being the target of boss attacks that hinder progression against the boss (Jade Maw death ray), and allow the ranger a way to negate damage to the pet without hindering our own ability to survive. This function could have a cooldown just like pet swapping while in combat to prevent abuse.

Associated Risks:
Without some sort of cooldown on your ability to stow and recall the pet I’m sure players would find a way to abuse it.

I like this idea and used to dodge roll on falls for the immersion and possibility it aided in avoiding falling over. I don’t now because my stamina is more important than immersion when getting ready to engage enemies.

Also, I dont think the point is to negate all damage, but to reduce it, similar to the traits that reduce fall damage by 50%. If you were to dodge roll at the correct time when hitting the ground, it could reduce your fall damage by 25%, prevent you from falling down on longer drops, or both.

Race: Norn
Sex: Male
Armor: Shoulders

Problem: I believe this is mostly a problem with one of the male Norn physiques (2nd row, 2nd column, the thinnest physique). Most shoulder pieces are not made to fit this physique. As you can see from the total makeover kit screenshots, the shoulders do not change in size or placement at all when switching between the thinnest and average Norn physiques. This creates a problem due to the fact that there is a MAJOR difference in the physiques natural height and chest girth. Furthermore, you can see that the shoulder armor changes size, shape, and positioning to adapt to the largest Norn physiques. The distance between the armor and the chest/shoulders remains constant when switching between all physique types EXCEPT the thinnest one. Although some of the shoulders have been down scaled to fit the thinnest physique, many have not (I would estimate that between the 3 armor classes, only around 50% fit properly).

EDIT: After changing my Norn to the average physique, I find that many of the shoulder armors are STILL too large and float above my characters shoulders. I have not tried using the largest Norn physiques.

Suggestion: Swap Weapons out of Combat

in Elementalist

Posted by: Rick.5781

Rick.5781

So you want a button or feature that stores your second weapon set in other words, yes? A sound idea. Like some people do now, you can keep your hero panel open and dragged to the right of your screen so only your equipment is visible hence minimizing screen clutter and you can swap weapons faster, although I believe you’d have to drag n drop the 2nd dagger manually if I’m not mistaken. That’s the only way to do it any faster.

Precisely! Manually swapping becomes tiresome due to the fact that when switching from 2 weapons to 1 weapon, it leaves one weapon in a random bag slot that you then have to go manually move. When swapping from 1 weapon to 2 weapons, you need to manually drag and drop the 2nd weapon into the offhand slot.

I wouldn’t be against weapon swapping IN combat for elementalists, but that would involve balance issues etc. Allowing us to swap weapons OUT of combat has NO balance issues whatsoever, and merely adds convenience to the game. There is no reason NOT to allow weapon swap OUT of combat (since we are already allowed to do it!).

  1. Thanks for your concerns but I do not suffer from mental illness. Maybe you do but it’s your problem and I’d love if you could avoid that kind of generalization
  2. You obviously didn’t read the propositions that were made because the most discussed ones do not impact casual players at all

1. Most =/= All. Some form of =/= full blown mental illness quality OCD where you feel the need to wash your hands 10x or open/close the door 5x before entering or leaving a room because bad things might happen if you dont.

2. I hate to say it, but the fact that you feel the need to complete all the dailys just to stay atop a leaderboard in a video game that has no impact on your quality of life, and do it even though you don’t consider it a fun use of your time, is a symptom of the obsessive compulsive spectrum of mental disorders.

3. I did read the propositions, but my post wasn’t related to any of them, it was in regard to people telling completionists to just deal with it or adapt, and my response was in relation to people suffering from HARDCORE OCD, not minor.

I think most AP hunters suffer from some sort of OCD (I know I do). When there is something that is available to do that is tracked, I feel like I HAVE to do it, not because it’s fun or because I want to, but because my mental state compels me to do so. If you don’t suffer from any sort of obsessive compulsive disorder tendencies you can’t understand this, but it IS real.

I think the problem is that if you are seriously hardcore OCD, the only way to make you happy is to put a cap on how many AP you can get from daily/monthly, as that would end the need to get more, since there is no more to get. Doing that could ruin the fun of many people that are NOT hardcore OCD.

For completionists more is not necessarily better, for casual people, more is usually better.

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

Personally waiting seems to be the best bet. Your side will eventually own the keep you need when it’s on your side, probably within 30 minutes of logging in, those things are CONSTANTLY being flipped. The other keeps and towers will be yours in one weeks times, which is probably less time than it takes you to clear every other zone, so it shouldn’t be THAT big a deal. The only difficult stuff to clear is SM castle since the weaker sides don’t capture it as often.

I was actually disappointed when the dungeon PoI didn’t count towards map completion. :/

They would have to redo/adjust all the trait lines if they added more skills, so I doubt we will see this in a patch, only an expansion (if even then). Sucks because some weapons just have lame skill sets and the game definitely needs more variety.

As for certain choices for certain slots, the easy alternative is have 2-3 options for autoattack, 6-9 choices that can be placed into slots 2-5, and 2-3 that can only go into slot 5 (like healing, utility, and elite skills). Then make is so we can place a normal skill into the “elite” skill slot.

What I hate about the “horizontal gear progression” is that the game forces you to PAY for it. A lot of the time if I want a specific skin, I need to buy transmutation crystals in order to apply that skin to the stats I want. Yes you can grind money and trade gold for gems, but the inflation price on gold is through the roof, and grinding gold just isn’t that fun.

Also, if I’m going to spend all that time on grinding for something, I would like it to improve my character somewhat. To be honest, most of the time people don’t even notice how “cool” your gear looks. There isn’t enough variety, most people have seen all the armor/weapons by now so nothing is “new,” “unique,” or “fresh.”

ive been told by DreamAbaddon that i will get all gear i ever need at lvl 80 in about a week or so, is it true? because that seems way too fast and pretty much sums the game for me

Yes and No. As of right now you can do about 99% of the content with exotic gear, which would take you about 1 week to get. However, in theory, you will need to craft ascended gear in order to progress past a certain point in fractals (which is the closest thing to WoW type end-game dungeons/gear grind they have in GW2). Ascended equipment has slightly better stats than exotic and will take a long time to craft, but like I said, its not necessary for 99% of the content in the game.

I can relate in a sense that I found that there wasn’t a real endgame in GW2 because there wasn’t a gear grind like I was used to in WoW. There are other things you can grind however. WvW stat boosts, account stat boosts, gear grind for alternate characters, ascended equipment, and legendary equipment. The gear grind is mostly cosmetic, which makes it seem pointless in a sense, but there is a SLIGHT increase from exotic → ascended, which was enough to keep me going.
