viabel sure, but good goups dont want ranger like that and same for.
your dmg is not so good like other classes, you give us 0 support and get 0 support so tell me why should i take you into my group?
Ummm, because I require very little support and I DO actually provide support in the way of healing, fury, condition removal, and revives?
My main is a ranger and I’m wondering if my build and playstyle will be viable going forward with higher level fractals (30+). I currently run with a LB and SB. My build is 30/30/10/0/0, with steady focus, piercing arrows, eagle eye, agility training, quick draw, moment of clarity, and wilderness knowledge as my traits. My equipment is pure berserker’s. My pets depend on the situation, but are usually one of either the brown bear, red moa, cat, juvenile wolf, or a spider/scorpion. My playstyle tends to include staying at range and using my longbow while dodging attacks and using my pet to do damage, keep itself alive, and assist my group members as much as possible.
I’ve already read about how bear/bow ranger sucks: that they have horrible DPS and no survivability. I’ve heard all the comments about how rangers are only good/useful if they are using frost spirit, spotter, and a sword, and if that’s not how I play then I’ll never find a group or I’ll get kicked from any “good” groups.
From my experience though, I find that using my longbow I actually do have good DPS (I tend to average around 2000+ damage per hit on autoattack with LB). I feel like I have very good survivability as I’m almost never the first to go down and rarely require help from my groupmates to keep me in the fight. At the same time I feel like I help out by sending my pet to revive downed teammates, or running in and dropping healing spring on top of people with low health, etc. I use different pets for different bosses and situation. For example, if it’s a boss that requires stacking, I tend to use the moa for fury and I switch to SB. If its a boss that requires people to spread out Ill use longbow and spider for DPS. If its a boss that does massive AoE and tends to down a lot of players, I’ll use the bear just because he can take more hits.
I’m currently on fractal level 30 and feel like its been pretty easy so far. Is this a viable build and playstyle going forward, or will I have to cave in and go with a sword/spirit build to be able to continue grouping up for fractals? Am I really gimping my group that badly with my class, build, and playstyle? Should I bother investing in ascended gear for my ranger in order to be able to do higher level fractals, or just accept that I need to switch classes for fractals (I have other 80s i could easily gear for fractals: guardian, warrior, thief, and engineer).
Im aware that agony is unaffected by vitality, I just wasnt sure if I was dying due to having low vitality, or having low AR. Boss attacks that hit hard tend to also inflict agony damage, so I wasnt sure if it was the agony or the increase in mob damage that was killing me. Levels 20 and below are a joke due to taking no damage from agony. During the aetherblade fractal I dont even really need to worry about avoiding the laser walls due to the damage from one hit being insignificant.
As for using bows, I didnt play a ranger to use a sword, thats why I have a warrior. I play my ranger to stay at range, because you know, thats what I find fun.
Is vitality necessary for very high level fractals (40-70), or are pure berserker builds still viable? Im about to start crafting some ascended weapons and armor and want to know if I should go pure berserkers (thats my current build) or mix in some vitality and toughness. I play a ranged ranger if that matters.
Im only at level 31, with 35 AR, so Im not sure if my dying is due to not having enough AR, or if the mobs just do that much more damage. Im also not sure how enemy damage will scale as the levels continue to increase.
Everything starts dropping at level 10, the chance to get them increases as the levels increase.
I feel like this is where confusions starts. If the tiers are 1-10, wouldnt everything start dropping at level 11? If everything starts dropping at level 10, wouldnt the tiers be 1-9, 10-19, etc?
Im at the point where Im considering running a fractal 19 and fractal 20 one day, and fractal 20 and fractal 21 the next and seeing if I get 2 daily boxes, or just 1. That would verify (for myself at least) how the daily tiers are laid out, if not how the actual drop tiers are laid out.
They could just add additional combat events to the swamp fractal to make it longer. In all honesty though, swamp is so much easier/faster than all the others its really pointless to do anything else. Compare it to something like Ascalon or Harpies, why wouldn’t you roll swamp first?
So ascended weapons begin dropping at daily level 11? If this is the case, they should change the way the tiers are layed out in the LFG panel to reflect this.
It isn’t dependent on other people as far as I can tell. I stayed out of range of all his shockwaves and didn’t get the achievement, but others in my party did get it.
I have to agree, wasting money on the same dye is irritating.
Good luck, I hope you find what you are looking for!
Id like them to be account bound too. This game has very little “grind” to it, but WvW ranks is a massive grind, especially if you want to be able to use different characters and still reap the benefits.
I agree. I made a post awhile back with this exact same suggestion but it didnt generate too many responses. I think the WvW Dolyak upgrade is beyond pointless and doubling their health would actually make the upgrade worthwhile.
Yes, supply drop is the only elite I find useful on my engineer as well. Part of the problem is that most elites are useless. All of the ones that summon allies are useful for giving you breathing room when overwhelmed, and can help you DPS things down faster in PvE, but the allies are useless in dungeons. The ally summons that require you to be standing still to use are also useless seeing as youre probably going to be using them in a pinch, and when you are in a pinch you cant afford to stand still for 2 seconds to channel the casting time. The cooldown on the elites is also too high, Id rather have a skill I can use every 30-60 seconds than be able to summon allies every 3 minutes.
If they put in a new use for essences, or increased the amount of mists essences needed, then salvaging for essences would be fine, but as currently set up, essences are almost as useless as the hundreds of rings you accumulate through running fractals. All the crafting recipes for ascended backs only require 1 shard, at level 25+ of fractals, shards drop frequently enough that you will never have a problem creating as many ascended back pieces as you would ever need/want. I’m all for adding more recipes that require the different types of essences though.
Being able to choose from a pool of skills would also remove the fact that sometimes there are skills we just don’t use often enough on a weapon due to play-style/build. For Example: My short bow ranger rarely uses skill #3 (causes you to leap back and grants swiftness). Id love to replace it with ANYTHING else really.
I would like it. I have different armor sets for different situations in PvE and WvW. Sometimes Im running full power/precision, other times I switch to full toughness/vitality for specific bosses/sieges, etc. It would be easier to just hit a hotkey then manually switch out each piece of gear.
@Coopziana: Salvaging for essences would be as useless as having extra rings. Once you get to fractal level 25+, infused rings and essences are as common as uninfused rings. I have something like 10 shards of crystallized mists essences, and nothing to use them on. My fractals character has infused gear already, and my other characters dont do fractals so they dont need infused rings/backs.
I agree with rhodoc, most of the time the regular utilities are more useful than the elites, especially due to the longer cooldown on the elites. Id rather run around with a 4th utility than the elite that rarely benefits me.
Agree, allow it to reset the cooldown to the longer skill if necessary, but right now we have to wait to fight bosses because we cant switch to the right skill, and once you engage, you cant switch then.
Someone else made a post about this but it was difficult to understand, so I figured I’d re-post the idea.
Fractal’s Personal Reward levels should be account bound and not character bound.
I’ve gotten my Ranger to fractal level 30 and I’ve run the instance approximately 50x, I’m tired of running fractals, especially with this character. I have 5 other characters, all of which are equipped with infused fractal rings I got with my Ranger, and yet none are beyond fractals level 1. By the time I get one of these characters to level 30 fractals, I’ll be sick of fractals with that character as well. Just let me use whatever character I want, on what ever level I have unlocked, PLEASE.
Where can you find the patch notes for the updates, and do they only announce major patch changes? We get about two 8 file patches every month, are these bug fixes? Wouldn’t it be helpful to let the players know what you fixed?
I dont know if I would consider the issue resolved. This problem occurs on every patch, regardless of how small or large. There is a workaround, but I would obviously prefer a fix or to know why this occurs. How would I go about creating a technical support ticket?
So its been awhile and I’m still having this issue. Its obviously not a major problem since its been over a month and I haven’t posted about it, but we’ve had several patches in a short time and it gets annoying having to delete gw2.exe and rename gw2.tmp to gw2.exe in order to patch the game every time.
Running as Admin did nothing to solve the problem. Making exceptions and even disabling the AV all-together did nothing. The game always seems to patch to 10496 before stopping and failing.
They should also add MF to differing stat types. Can I get Toughness, Healing, MF, or Toughness, Vitality, MF, or Vitality, Healing, MF?
Im ok with buffed dolyaks being killed by single players, but it should be difficult and require skill to do so. Right now its no harder than killing an unbuffed dolyak, just slightly more annoying.
Just happened to me and another engineer during path 3. The game continues to allow us to switch our skills, and we still have access to using f1-f4, but pressing 6-0 does nothing. Makes us useless for the rest of the dungeon. Fix this please.
This wouldnt cause people to stop using MF gear, it would just cause them to stack more of it. Unless you mean to actually eliminate the Traveler/Explorer/Wayfarer stat sets and have this the only way to apply MF to gear.
Right now the camp upgrades that you get for Dolyaks is pointless. It spawns 2 veteran guards, but they dont really help. Players can just blatantly ignore the guards and focus down the dolyak in 30 seconds, then the guards despawn. I suggest the upgrade also turn Dolyaks into veterans, that way they would have more health and it would be more difficult for solo players to take them out.
They should make a set that is Vitality, Toughness, and Healing Power, for people that want to live forever. :P
Um, then can they make it so bosses like Jade Maw stop targetting our pets?
This skill needs major help. Before the nerf I would use it for dungeon bosses for the sole reason of reviving DEAD players. More often than not one of two things happen with downed players; you can rez them yourself safely, or theyre being bombarded by high damage AoE and the pet/person will die trying. It still has its uses, but its even more situational now. On the fractals fire elemental my pet managed to keep a party member alive and the boss occupied trying to kill him while i was able to revive 2 dead party members. Boss couldn’t do enough damage to kill them, pet couldnt revive fast enough to allow him to rally. :P
Couple things that would help this skill: Increase the range (what is the range anyways, its not listed as far as I can tell). If the pet doesnt contribute to the person reviving the cooldown shouldnt activate (or reduce the cooldown significantly).
Two questions:
1) Does the blank mp3 file at the beginning of the playlist need to be a certain length in order for it to work? Ive tried putting a small 1 second blank mp3 at the beginning of each playlist, but the first song is always the same.
2) Any way to have a custom ambient playlist, but the default main menu playlist?
Stuck at 77/83, and only missing 3 hints total: mailbox, enchanter, and necromancer.
*update: after completing the mailbox hint, my hints jumped to 81/83.

Race: Human
Class: Thief
Body: The one before the most muscular male body.
Graphical Bug: Inquest Gauntlets
The Exotic Medium Inquest Gloves purchased from the Crucible of Eternity vendor in Lion’s Arch has some weird feather like protrusions on the left gauntlet. The right gauntlet is how it should look with no “feathers.”
Graphical Clipping: Duelist Coat
More problems with the Exotic Medium Duelist Coat.
(1) There is still that red line/seem that runs down the center of the coat, as well as another one that runs down the left side of the coat (not pictured). This has been mentioned several times before.
(2) MAJOR clipping going on with this specific race/body type. As you can see from the pictures, boxers as well as most pants will clip through parts of the groin on the left and right (even on very form fitting pants, though not as much). Ive tested several pants and at least 50% have some kind of clipping, so its probably easier to adjust the coat as opposed to each individual pant type.
3 hours of my life gone when I got no credit for finishing arah.
Just ran Arah path 1. It took around 3 hours, finished it, and the game crashed after i accepted the final rewards. Log back in, no credit for doing it, no 60 tokens. BULL.
I agree, this is a MUCH needed feature on the trading post. I cant stand having to sift throuth all that unuseable armor when trying to find something that matches.
So because its “karma” armor it is account bound? Id rather they drop normal exotic armor and allow me to sell it.
What is the reasoning behind exotics obtained from chests in Fractals being account bound? Are ALL dungeon chest exotics account bound, or just Fractals? It would be nice to be able to sell the half decent loot I get from Fractals.
Graphical Bug: Boot Ambient Lighting and Coat Clipping
Race: Sylvari
Gender: Male
Profession: Ranger
Two seperate issues here. The first is that the Sylvari Tier 1 Medium Cultural Boots (Evergreen Boots) do not reflect ambient lighting the way regular armor does. This causes it to look a different color pretty much everywhere other than the character panel. I dont know if the entire set reflects ambient lighting different than regular armor, or only the boots.
The second problem is a clipping issue with the Exotic Medium Duelist Coat. When wielding any type of bow, it impales the player at the thigh.
Ok, Ill try disabling my AV next time it patches and see if that works.
Regardless, its located in D:\Guild Wars 2 now, and whenever there is a patch it wont download properly. If I reinstall it to C:\Guild Wars 2, then copy and paste it to D:\Guild Wars 2, will that fix the problem for future patches?
So every time there is a patch and I run GW2.exe, it downloads a certain amount of data (10422kb this time) and then the kb/sec drops to 0 and I get the following error message.
“Unable to verify the Guild Wars 2 executable. Please try again. If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the application, or contact customer support.”
When I installed it I read some information about the game having problems if its installed into a folder other than the default. There was a work around that allowed me to install it into another folder and so I did, and coincidentally it is the same work around that lets me install patches. I have to delete the GW2.exe file and then rename the GW2.tmp file to GW2.exe. When I run the new EXE the game installs and runs fine. It is however an annoying process to go through EVERY time there is a patch. Is there a permanent fix to this problem?
Ok, I understand the need to update the game ASAP, but couldnt we get more than a 3 minute warning before you reset the entire game? This hasn’t happened to me yet, but what if I just spent 1 hour getting to the last boss of a dungeon, and then its announced we have 3 minutes to kill the last boss? Couldnt you give a 1-2 hour warning that the game will be resetting at #:## AM/PM. Have that message appear on your screen as soon as you log in so that people don’t start something that requires a large investment of time, only to find out half way through that they were never going to have the time to complete it anyways.
Please, try to be a little bit more considerate to your player base and give us ample warning if we will not have time to complete something.
If you manage to play, logging out to the character select screen seems to save your progress until the next DC. So if you log out repeatedly you can still play. :P
Same problem. I manage to stay connected for 30-60seconds then disconnect. All progress is reverted to pre-patch on reconnect.
